About The Pod
The Pod Bar and Restaurant is an all-day dining and drinking space situated across the bridge from Newport Castle with a great garden terrace offering great views of the river Usk and the city centre.
We open daily except Mondays. From twelve o'clock our lunch menu is on offer, enjoy the day and soak up the views with the finest wines. In the evenings sample our award-winning seasonal cocktail list compiled by our bar manager Jan Kosler and his team while you enjoy sharing platers designed by our Executive Head Chef. Relax and unwind as Newport comes to life and music fills the air.
We are offering two unique packages of Gin Masterclasses in our private Gin Room where you will learn the history of gin along with a tasting of five gins and hands-on botanical experience. Cocktail Masterclasses are also available for groups, minimum numbers apply.
Food was lovely but the sharing board could have fed four and there were only two of us so lots of waste.
Although the food and the service on the day was good- after pre-booking and pre-ordering well in advance, there were differences between what we had pre-ordered and what was actually available on the day. Other than an apologising, nothing was offered in way of compensation (not even a bottle of wine) despite our party spending £400-£500 in total. Unlikely to organise a meal there again in future.
Will definitely be coming back. When things changed on the reservation. I was contacted, so no unpleasant surprises on arrival. Overall a lovely little venue with great food.
We had a brilliant evening, thank you. The food was fantastic and all the staff were attentive and friendly. We definitely plan to return again soon.
Food was lovely and i was able to order a meal that wasnt on the menu due to my allergies which was great. Really appreciated that. Service however wasn’t that good. We were sat in quite a busy ‘walkway’ area so were constantly passed by with food orders. Appreciate its a fairly small venue though. We were left waiting for an order to be taken for a while and had quite a long wait for our food. Couldn’t work out if there were other menus to order from as there were loads of dishes going out that weren’t on the menu we were given? We were asked if the meal was okay and asked if we needed sauces etc so that was good. Had to ask for the dessert menu but no one came back to give it to me. Waited a while and then asked for the bill. No one came to collect the money either. Had the place been really busy i could let certain things slide but it wasn’t, probably only a quarter full. I might give it another go one evening but im not overly impressed. I was with my mum and it was an early Christmas treat and she said that she doubted she would come back which is a shame as the food we had was nice and the place itself looks really good. Overall experience was 6/7 out of 10, didnt particularly feel overly welcomed and felt more like people who were out for Christmas works meals were focussed on.
Very enjoyable from the time we got ,until we left
Food was beyond amazing, drinks great, atmosphere and music on point. Service was a little slow and would expect it to be fast considering it wasn’t that busy at the time.
Waitress wasn't very attentive. However food was great.
Highly recommend this place - great atmosphere and delicious food every time !
Restaurant was very short staffed and unable to cope with the booked reservations.
So good!! Drinks as usual were tasty and the Pod burger was the best I've had in all of UK hands down.
Service was so bad! Everyone stood around talking not paying attention to the customers. We had to call someone over everytime! Not acceptable. However the food was lovely.
Lovely venue. Burger meal with prosecco great value.
Not a lot of options for vegetarian.
Food arrived very quickly and was good quality. Will definitely be returning!
I have visited the pod a number of times everytime has been a lovely night and will continue to return. Thank you to all the staff polite and good service.
Love the sharing player ideas really has a unique selling point. I felt food wasnt over prices and it was a lovely atmosphere in a Sunday afternoon
We hired The Pod for our wedding evening and what a fantastic time we had. The food was totally amazing, the music was fantastic and the overall experience with staff from waiting staff, bar staff, door man were brilliant a big big thank you to Jan for organising everything and the chef for the fantastic food .... we were allowed to dress tables and have balloons etc and they were all more than happy to help clean up .... an overall fantastic place to celebrate something special, thank you so much to everyone involved
Really nice and unexpected atmosphere, great value for money food was nice & also the drinks. Was just a shame we was but in a corner we're the wine was being restocked and the waiters and waitresses where walking back and forth in a small space when it got a little busier.. All in all very nice.
So many of your menu items were off that it was embarrassing. Particularly as I organised the evening s the items weee vegetarian and two of us were veggie! I’d be loathe to book again.
Lovely atmosphere, drinks and live music. Food menu was shocking. Not much in way of food choice and many items on menu had run out including basics like burgers and chips!!! Service was also slow - waited over 20mins for drinks to arrive. Looks good but could be so much better.
Unfortunately it’s the first time I’ve visited here it has a amazing display and good gins however the food was cold and not as described, there was a offer displayed on the website running from 5.30 - 7.30 which I was then told I couldn’t have and no reason to why this was. The main thing that let it down was that it was freezing cold and I had to sit there with my coat on when I asked to turn it off she checked and still didn’t turn it off. I’m aware tempature is important but it was ridiculously cold and this was mutal to others. Also ordered some more drinks and she forgot all about them, i had to ask twice as to where they was. Overall disappointing.
