About The Pod
We have spent the past 12 months listening to your feedback and reading your comments and have discarded bookings for parties of less than 8 people. This open dining experience is available Wednesday to Saturday, day and night. If you have less than 8 people in your group, just turn up....no reservation necessary!
Our thinking behind this change is that we have a unique space and want as many people as possible to enjoy it, we will of course accommodate you where possible....be it on a high table, dining table, sofa or at the bar. This is The Pod's new era of casual dining.
Bookings for our Sunday roast fill up fast and are available for 2 sittings (12pm & 3pm) every Sunday. Any size table can make a reservation for Sunday lunch and is not limited to 8+. This is one not to be missed...book in advance to avoid disappointment.
The Pod is an all-day dining and drinking space situated across the bridge from Newport Castle with a great garden terrace offering great views of the river Usk and the city centre.
Our lunch menu is available 12pm-4pm and our dinner menu, 5.30pm-9pm, Weds-Sat.
Enjoy your visit, soak up the views with the finest wines and spirits on offer....Our award-winning seasonal cocktail list compiled by our bar manager, Jan Kosler has something to wet all whistles. Team it with one of our food platters, designed by our very talented Executive Head Chef and you’re in for a treat!
We also offer gin & cocktail masterclasses, weekly live music, bespoke packages for weddings, parties and celebrations. All of which can be found on our website www.thepodnewport.com.
We hope to welcome you soon...
Fab nite in a beautiful place
The food was absolutely outstanding, the only thing that let it down was the desserts. The cheesecake and brownies were very underwhelming and weren’t worth £5 each. But as I said, the main was incredible. I would also like to say that £2 for a dash of lemonade in a gin is extortionate, I payed less in London!!!
This is our 3rd works outing to The Pod and once again the food was exceptional. Look forward to another visit very soon.
Lovely Sunday lunch at The Pod - very welcoming staff and excellent quality of food and service. We were able to relax and enjoy our food and drinks without feeling like we were being rushed or hassled which was very welcome. Definitely recommend and will be back!
Excellent lunch with 25 friends both service and food fabulous!!! Highly recommend!!
Arrived for 7.30 as booked, told half the menu was not available, and at least ( waitress really stressed the at LEAST) an hour wait. Disappointing when you book and this happens - badly managed restaurant. I suggest scrapping the bookings all together or bring back bookings for all tables as clearly all the walk in tables had the great pick of the food, disappointing when 7.30 was the earliest table we could book. 8 of us got a refund for our booking and went elsewhere to eat.
We arrived a little early for our booking but said we wanted a drink 1st then very promptly on our booking time we were attended to by very accommodating staff.sunday lunch was excellent.1st class service off everyone..
Sorry but we were stable of 6. Love the pod but everyone of us agreed the Sunday lunch wasn’t very good at all & wouldn’t have it again. The gravy was like water & didn’t have any flavour. & a chicken leg wasn’t a great piece of meat! Beef was nice. So was veg. The drinks are always nice tho
We were quite disappointed in the change of menu since only a few months ago- and that the only menu on offer was burgers, granted we should have checked prior but there was no healthy option, not any varied vegetarian options as the falafel burger wasn't available so only the bean burger was on offer. There weren't any nachos, and we weren't told that they kitchen had run out of triple cooked chips. Served just skinny fries and one of the burgers arrived cold. High price for cordial and water - £2!! Which is extremely overpriced in our opinion. However the service was very good and the staff were very apologetic about the food - and kindly offered us a refund. Just a shame that the usual menu isn't on offer alongside the specials of burgers or pizza.
Very dissatisfied, many times I have tried to eat a roast dinner at the pod but it has been fully booked. However, it was my partners 30th birthday, therefore I booked in advance and invited family. I emailed beforehand and asked if I could take a surprise birthday cake, which was agreed. On arrival we stood waiting by the door for some time due to what seem to be a limited amount of staff. When I was able to, I advised a waitress that we had a table booked and had been waiting some time. We were directed to sit at a table and waited another 25 minutes to order drinks, then ordered our roast dinner. We waited a further 30 minutes for the drinks to arrive, our food arrived before the drinks. The Yorkshire puddings were delicious. However, the rest of the food was very bland, the beef was tough, when I asked my mother “how does the beef taste” her reply was “I don’t know I can’t cut it”. The veg was cold and not enough of it. The staff were too busy to get their attention to give the cake to. Therefore, we left with the cake. I was embarrassed that I had invited people there. When we did see the waitress she was very friendly, it was obvious that it needed more staff. I had food there in June 2018 and it was delicious, I’m not sure what’s happened.
Sunday lunch was delicious and plenty of it! The only down side is we were on a high table which was very uncomfortable.
Everything was great, apart from where we were sat. They put us on a table wedged between the bar, a pillar and the paying desk with at the beginning a constant ringing phone. Other than that the food was delicious and the staff were pleasant.
Had a lovely time for a family meal ..would recommend Sunday lunch Thank you
Wow sunsay lunch is amazing
Enjoy our fathers day lunch here. We had a fantastic meal and plenty of it. Highly recommended
Fabulous all-round! Particularly impressed with response to meal request for young person with specific requirements. Loved our meal, most definitely be back 👌
Lovely father’s day meal, very good customer service and desert platter was out of this world
Absolutely gorgeous food!! We had the vegetarian Sunday lunch, the kids had the traditional meat choice for Sunday lunch then all shared a desserts sharing plate!! Delicious, value for money and friendly, attentive staff. the Malbec was pretty fabulous too!! We have a birthday celebration soon and think we'll be returning en mass for Friday night feasting platters!!
What a Sunday Lunch! absolutely outstanding and your desserts are divine can’t wait to return.
Very welcoming, efficient and food was lovely
Delicious food, friendly staff and great drinks. Every time we have been it’s been excellent. Be back soon.
Awesome meal, great service and friendly staff
The cooked dinner was lovely , however the gravy was abit thin. The staff were amazing, would highly recommend
Worst Sunday dinner I have ever had. Along with the worst possible service. Booked a table of 2 on Saturday for Sunday dinner the following day, then I called up to add someone on at about 2pm and was told they were "too busy" to check the booking to see if I could add a person on but told me someone could call me back at 7pm! Obviously this was no help so after much back and forth the girl on the phone asked a manager who said it's fine just turn up with 3 and they can facilitate, no confirmation, no email no nothing so I had a bad feeling this wasn't going to go well straight away. Stood by the front door for 10 minutes waiting to be sat down to a table we booked. There was 1 person working behind the bar and another looking busy but no one came over to us or even made eye contact. The other staff members were out the back smoking. Eventually sat down after we pretty much had to interrupt the person working behind the bar, he sat us by THE POD sign which must never be switched off as it was boiling hot so had to move table. Also the table was for 2 people not 3 as suspected!!! Luckily the third person was unwell so couldn't make it anyway. The waiter eventually came over with a folded in half stained bit of paper which is passed off as the drinks menu, handed it over and said what do you want to drink? Which gave us plenty of time to look at the menu (lol). Then eventually a waitress came over with an A4 stained but of paper passed off as the Sunday dinner menu. At this point I thought if the food is good I'll let the shabby service go. We ordered the meat option which comes with chicken and beef stabbed to a Yorkshire pudding with a blunt steak knife. Food came and my other halfs meat fell on the floor as it wasnt stabbed through with the knife properly ...no staff member in sight to help ...shock! So he just left it. Veg was cold, chicken was dry, beef was stringy and pink, Yorkshire was tasteless and gravy was pretty much brown water and roast potatoes tasted as if they had just been warmed up in the microwave. No one came over to check everything was ok. So other half went up to pay as we just wanted to get out of there and as we were leaving a waiter finally asked was everything ok and when I explained he said "oh sorry about that". On the drive home we realised that they had over charged my other half as I already paid a £10 deposit to book the table!!! So he rang them and they said "yes sir sorry about that we were just about to ring you" (never had any missed calls funny enough). They told us they could not refund the £10 taken from my card and we had to drive back so they could give us cash!!!! You can imagine our frustration at this point. So we turn the car around to go back to get our money back and they said they could give us £20 back which was the £10 they over charged us anyway and a £10 as a good will gesture. I wanted a full refund but they told me this wasn't something they could but did offer us vouchers which I politely declined as why the hell would I want to go back there! I have had a better dinner and service for £8.99 from the potters across the road. Fair to say I do not have one good thing to say about this place and this experience. Absolute waste of money and the worst service I have ever had. Also a huge waste of time as me and my other half were nights that day so wanted a nice dinner together before we had to go to work. After we collected our money we drove to McDonalds to grab food as we were hungry because we didn't touch our dinners as it was that disgusting. Never again!!!
Poor service. Once you find your booked table (as you are not shown to it on arrival), you are left for half an hour or so without any drinks or menu or any idea of how to order food. Then once everyone else around you is dealt with, you are finally asked if you have any dietary requirements and then the food is brought out 20 minutes or so later. Very slow service to get your food after 1 considering the table booking slot is supposed to be 12. The male manager is also not overly pleasant or approachable when asked questions. The other young girls and boys are nice though. The food itself is nice, although the parsnips were a little hard. But extremely overpriced. Particularly when there are other offerings in town that provide 3 courses for the same price. I wouldn’t return.
