Steak night. Fabulous value and an enjoyable le experience.
Had our first meal since the new kitchen was fitted. Booked on-line for the first time as we normally just turn up for lunch or 'phone to book. Easy to do on-line. Meal was lovely, and enjoyed by friends who hadn't been before. Service was great as always. An extra nice touch was being given a sample before our meal.
Service excellent, staff knowledgeable about food. More variety with vegetables, red cabbage and regular cabbage, mmmm not. Really didn’t like you having my card details just to book for lunch, but do realise people don’t show
Fabulous food and great service.
We recently ate at the Plough & Harrow whilst staying with my in-laws in Southgate, and we enjoyed an excellent meal and service. My husband and I have eaten in the restaurant before which was brilliant, and this time we ate in the bar with our two children. The atmosphere was lovely, really friendly and bubbly and clearly full of very happy locals, who must be delighted to have such a nice pub close by! I am a vegetarian verging on being fully plant based, and had mentioned when booking online that it would be preferable to have some vegan options. Without any further prompting I was presented with a hand written list of vegan options when our waitress brought the menus over. They had had another vegan request earlier and had kept a list of several options to offer both of us. There were a few starter options and a few mains. I went for olives and balsamic onions for a lighter starter and this was brought with lovely freshly baked bread with olive and balsamic, rather than a different type of bread my husband had with butter. I then had a beetroot, edamame and butternut burger served with triple cooked chips. The bun was two small slices of freshly baked bread with hummus. I noticed the burger was on the main menu and served with feta, so I am assuming the dish was the same as this just without the feta. I ordered a side salad to go with it. The burger was nice although could have picked a little more of a flavour punch. It was also less beetrooty than I had imagined it would be, but was tasty. The chips were amazing (diet starts now!) and the salad was lovely and set the whole thing off really well. I would say the bread was probably a bit heavy for the burger, and maybe detracted from the flavour, but overall it was a really nice dish. The only other thing I could have wanted was a vegan mayo for my chips, which I believe is quite simple to make, but this didn’t matter at all as I was really impressed at the service and options given to me. My husband had overnight belly pork, and our girls both had kids menu garlic bread followed by cod and chips, and a scoop of ice cream/sorbet. It was all excellent, service was brilliant, and we left thoroughly happy and impressed. My only suggestion, to make things even better (other than a vegan mayo, which can taste even better than regular mayo!) is to include more vegan options on the menu, rather than having to have a separate list written up on request. More and more people are turning to plant based food (and we need to for the sake of our planet’s future) so it will be interesting to see how eateries take up this challenge, as the options can often be limited and if I’m being totally honest it shouldn’t be seen as a separate thing, but something to be fully integrated and a part of the main offer. I do appreciate that it’s still relatively unusual to request vegan food, but I think 2020 is set to be the year of change in this respect! That’s my only suggestion to make what is already an excellent pub even better 😊. It was an excellent meal and will be back again when we next visit to sample some more vegan and regular dishes! Thanks to you all for a lovely evening. Anna & Owen Butterfield
Shortage of staff affecting quality and speed of service. One surly staff member in particular. Inattentive staff. No enquires made about enjoyment of the food etc. Overall a generally disappointing evening.
It's our second time visiting and the food was yet again superb. The staff are also very friendly.
We joined you (again) this year for our friends group Xmas meal out. As expected, it was a great evening. The party menu was delicious and excellent value. Thank you and see you in the new year...........
Fabulous meal. I would serve the cheese before the pudding (as the French do). I would also consider less courses with a reduction in the price. 5/6 courses for under £100? Having said that we thoroughly enjoyed the food and the experience. Thank you.
Excellent evening birthday meal for 5 just before Xmas. Wonderful food, excellent service from helpful staff who accommodated all our menu requests and changes with smiles and great grace! We love returning - highly recommend the P&H
Very helpful staff .. our party of 6 took over half an hour to all arrive on a very busy Sunday and at no point were we made to feel awkward
Sunday lunch for 11 people, the food was excellent, service a little slow - had to ask can we have drinks or can the plates be removed but I guess this was due to being very busy.
Compliments to the chefs for their innovative menu. The garlic ciabatta was particularly tasty.
Thoroughly enjoyable evening with excellent food and atmosphere
As usual, delicious beautifully presented food and great friendly service. The overnight slow roasted beef in particular was exceptional. See you again next week. :-)
Thank you for being so accommodating with food requests. We all had a lovely evening and will definitely be back in the new year.
Excellent sunday lunch and fantastic value too
Nice cosy pub, lovely service, decent food.
Excellent Sunday lunch, great menu with lots of choice and no problem when dairy free options requested. Delicious food.
Coffee is really bad
Excellent evening celebrating daughter’s birthday with family members. Everything was perfect would highly recommend.
Excellent - as always! Thanks
Excellent meal again.
Food and drink - very good (my fillet steak came covered with sauce when I'd requested (when asked) for it to be on the side, however it was still very good. Good atmosphere Excellent service We requested extra bread for starter - we were told it would be 50p - we were charged £1.00 for 2 very small scraps of bread .. very disappointing and detracted from the whole experience...
