About The Pig & Whistle
A pint-sized neighbourhood bistro & charcuterie bar.
Serving small plates, cured meat & cheese.
Purveyor of fine wines, exquisite ales & spirits.
First visit, excellent relaxed atmosphere with lovely attentive staff.
Outstanding food, 1st class service, highly recommend to all.
I've only given 3 stars for atmosphere as we was there on a quiet Tuesday night.
Delicious food and wine
We had a lovely weekend family lunch. Wonderful selection of quality food and drinks. Have already recommended you to friends and we will be back. Chef Samuel was on top form, satisfyingly clean plates all round 😊
Really delicious food, great ambiance, excellent selection of wine, loved it and can’t wait to come back. Have already recommended you to lots of people, fab
Small plates are fantastic and just what we wanted. The best olives in Yorkshire are found here and the croquettes are the best I have tasted outside of Malaga town’s renowned Tapa’s bars. For drinks my must try would be the Aperol spritz, not something you see very often in the UK, very refreshing!
We had a fantastic evening, the food and wine was gorgeous.
Fantastic meal. Top quality ingredients brilliantly cooked to provide wonderful flavours. Excellent wine list. Good value.Delicious, top quality bread. Something for everyone regarding choice and portion size. Service well-meaning but a little unpolished. People in Beverley are so lucky to have this place to eat!
6 of us - had the Sunday offer £25 per couple with sharing boards/salads/bottle of wine - lovely. The chef gave personal service - extremely knowledgeable about the meats and cheeses. The chocolate mousse was to die for!! soaked cherries mmmmm
My husband and I went to the ‘Gin Mare’ evening, it was fabulous. Amazing food & gin pairings - excellent value for money x
Really enjoyed the gin mare night. Great food especially the salmon and chocolate mousse. Not to mention lots of gin and fun informative talk from gin mare.
Lovely dining experience. Good food, lovely wine ( which was a very good price too), very friendly service. A couple of things let it down a bit - the fact that there were no oysters available. Our reservation was at 7:00pm on a Friday night and it was disappointing that they had run out for oysters so early in the evening. And we were only informed of this at the time of ordering , not when we were seated. It seems it is advisable to reserve some at the time of making your reservation but the website doesn't mention it. The flavours of the food were strong but it was just a tad bit too oily. Just a bit too much Olive oil for our taste. Altogether a good experience. Worth going back.
Gorgeous place can’t wait to return
Excellent. Rather give my money to a local restaurant than the many chains we have in Beverley.
Great meal and service as always
excellent evening, fantastic food and wonderful service. highly recommended
What a fabulous night our party of three had on an exceedingly busy Friday evening. Food and drinks were both to a very high standard. If you want mediocre then this is not for you. Highly recommend getting a few bits to nibble on whilst you look further at the menu. We had pig skin, anchovies with the pickled hot chillies- great with a refreshing beer. Next up was a couple of rounds of fresh crab tartine and the queenie scallops with Poacher cheese crumb. We narrowly missed out on the oysters as they had just sold out- it was packed in the bar area and they were flying out to all the people seated at the bar stools. Next time. After a little breather, as we were already feeling quite full, up came the charcuterie and cheese sharing board- meat, cheese, crusty sourdough & crackers, pickles, grapes, quince jelly- our appetites were back! The whole meal was perfect, particularly great if you enjoy sharing with others, as this is the best way to experience the variety of taste sensations on offer. The staff coped really well on such a busy evening- hats off to you guys as yours is not an easy job when it is so busy. Lovely to see what looked like four generations seated on the next table- there is something for everyone here. The facilities are great- disabled toilet with baby changing available. Highly recommend having a cheeky Dirty Martini- not for the feint hearted! Served exquisitely. Love, love, love this place! Already planning a return visit for the oysters. Authentic Bistro- done (to perfection).
Overall a great evening and a good variety of cheese and wine pairings, personally our group felt the wine samples could have been a bit more generous and the waitresses could have been a bit more knowledgable about the products, service felt a little clunky at times, also perhaps missed out on an opportunity to sell more drinks, we finished our bottle of wine pretty quickly and would happily have bought another if prompted. Food was a little heavy at the end though it was very nice. An opportunity to purchase any of the cheeses or wines to take away would have been nice.
We thoroughly enjoyed our first visit, a pre-theatre early dinner of charcuterie and cheese sharing plate. We come from the South Bank and have already booked our return visit with friends. Happy to do a 60 mile round trip for this type of taste experience. How refreshing to find a bistro that focuses on taste, taste, taste with excellent ingredients and not volume.
Charmless empty cafe. Mean sharing platter. No olives , padron chillies, caper berries, dried tomatoes or anything. Nice bread and wine though. Sad.
Excellent cocktails, food and wine. My new favourite place in Beverley.
Interesting new bistro.Great house aperitif, good soup , good oysters , potatoes should have been sliced thinly in tartiflette+raclette...cured meats always good
I marked Down a little on service as one of the waitresses kept dropping cutlery- 6 times! This may be a disservice as she could be new??
We visited this lovely small bistro with friends on a Friday night and had a great experience. We rebooked mid week for a birthday meal and the food and service were just as good but it was very quiet which was a shame. That said, there are still lots of things on the menu that i'd like to try so will book again when the weather improves and more people around.
