About The Phoenix Inn
The Phoenix Inn is an old coaching inn, with lots of nooks and crannies, low ceilings, and uneven floors. This is part of the charm of this 17th century listed building.
Andrew and Sisi Ryder opened this charming restaurant in 2009, and in the last 7 years with the aid of Adrian Culver, head chef, and the whole team have elevated it to one of the best eateries in Hampshire.
The style of food satisfies every mood and pocket, from a fresh sandwich, or ham, egg and chips to oysters, lobster, and Chateaubriand.
Provenance and seasonality are the key elements in formulating the menu, which changes daily. The comprehensive wine list features organic and bio-dynamic, and sulphite free wines, and again is seasonally adjusted. The real ales are Cask Marque accredited and there is a good range of draught lagers, bottled beers, and spirits.
The large peaceful garden is excellent for sunny summer afternoons and the roaring fire in the winter makes The Phoenix a cosy, warm, homely place.
Food was excellent although not enough vegetables for 4 people for our Sunday lunch. Been twice recently and although seated on time had to wait 45mins before order was taken.
Myself and husband fancied a nice lunch, and the Phoenix has never let us down, food is always cool perfect, staff are incredible! All very good at there jobs! Was perfect for a Sunday afternoon! Thanks again we will of course back back again soon!
A very enjoyable Sunday lunch and Jazz enjoyed all of the attention!
some courses excellent and some v average . Pub seemed v busy . Dauphinoise a bit dry and prawn cocktail a bit watery . Fish was excellent as was the lamb. Nice beer
Good quality food in a traditional setting. Love it. Jx
Always a lovely place to go. Nice, comfortable feel, friendly staff and quality food.
Food delicious, vegetables all fresh and not boiled to death. Great welcome and excellent service. Nice touch when Chef wandered around restaurant to make sure everyone was happy.
Very cosy with log fire. Good quality food, good service and food served promptly
Had a very good meal once again.
Still the best place to eat locally
We attended a Carnivores evening at The Phoenix this week. They do a few of these each year, and they are well worth attending. The 'theme' of this one was Duck. The evening starts with Fizz and Canapes followed by a 3-course meal and each food course paired with a different wine. This time the wines were from Louis Latour. The food and wines are absolutely top class! A great evening and exceptional value!!!
Excellent lunch. Pleasant staff. Really cosy atmosphere
Excellent lunch...great atmosphere! Only caveat would be as The Phoenix is so popular there was very little space to have a drink or seat down before our table was free for the second sitting. Otherwise fantastic! Thank you Phoenx.
Excellent food. Can’t single out any one thing - all great.
Great meal as always,
The Sunday Roasts are the best..... real home cooking taste. Puddings quite expensive
Outstanding and excellent as usual
Another wonderful meal at The Phoenix! Sisi and her team made us really welcome and the food was absolutely superb as always. The Phoenix serves the best roast dinner we’ve ever had and we celebrate our most important family occasions there as we trust it will always be great.
My partner and I are regulars at The Phoenix Inn for Sunday lunch. We tried loads of different pubs in the area, but since discovering The Phoenix, very rarely go anywhere else, it is so worth coming here for a superb dinner, with fresh, seasonal, sustainable ingredients. This is the best gastro pub in the Surrey / Hampshire borders! I have it on our agenda to try the Chateaubriand before too long!
First time visit to meet friends at a halfway point for both of us - a 2 hour drive from Swanage,Dorset for us. Excellent food, staff really helpful and friendly. Very relaxed atmosphere, lovely place. Only very tiny minor point, when needed to vacate restaurant area for the evening dinner setting up not enough comfy chairs for 4 people to sit on together.
We had an excellent meal and will certainly be returning!
Just love eating and drinking at The Phoenix !
We did not appreciate the automatic service charge at 10% on the end of our bill. A ‘tip’ should discretionary, earned by the standard of the service received.
Always very friendly young staff 😊 Great food lovely atmosphere can highly recommend it.
Excellent customer service
