About The Phoenix Inn
The Phoenix Inn is an old coaching inn, with lots of nooks and crannies, low ceilings, and uneven floors. This is part of the charm of this 17th century listed building.
Andrew and Sisi Ryder opened this charming restaurant in 2009, and in the last 7 years with the aid of Adrian Culver, head chef, and the whole team have elevated it to one of the best eateries in Hampshire.
The style of food satisfies every mood and pocket, from a fresh sandwich, or ham, egg and chips to oysters, lobster, and Chateaubriand.
Provenance and seasonality are the key elements in formulating the menu, which changes daily. The comprehensive wine list features organic and bio-dynamic, and sulphite free wines, and again is seasonally adjusted. The real ales are Cask Marque accredited and there is a good range of draught lagers, bottled beers, and spirits.
The large peaceful garden is excellent for sunny summer afternoons and the roaring fire in the winter makes The Phoenix a cosy, warm, homely place.
A thoroughly enjoyable lunch and experience. Perhaps the 'covid' arrangements could be slightly clearer and actively pursued.
Lovely evening with friends. Staff were great , serving us in the dark of the garden so that my friend felt safe. Food as good as always .
Great evening food fantastic wines top draw
Fabulous evening celebrating our wedding anniversary. Fantastic service and delicious chateaubriand. A real treat! Thank you
I have sent this email twice with no response: I was disappointed with the treatment I received today (Tues 8 Sept) at lunch. I am in the most vulnerable category and am still nervous about eating inside. When I called to book a reservation, I asked if I could eat outside and was told that would be fine. When I arrived the young Manager of the Day said outdoor service was not available. I said I wanted to eat outside, but this was declined repeatably. I persisted, but the Manager claimed I was being rude, which I certainly wasn’t, and I didn’t raise my voice at any point. A young chef sitting by the front door witnessing this will certainly confirm this. She walked away, presumably to speak with her colleagues. She came back after a while and said I could site outside but I would have to order at the bar and the tables hadn’t been cleaned. I replied that would be fine. Before showing me to a table outside she requested that I wasn’t rude to her staff!! I wasn’t rude to her and certainly wouldn’t be so to anyone else. I was given table service outside and the food and the staff were excellent as usual. Since the lifting of the lock down I have visited at least once a week, often twice. Do you think a customer should be treated like this, let alone a regular?
The Phoenix is run like a well-oiled machine, staff lovely as was the Sunday lunch, delicious!
Always a pleasure to dine at the Phoenix. The roast lamb was delicious but a tad expensive. Attentive staff and great service.
We have just experienced yet another fantastic meal this Friday. Superb lobsters cooked to perfection. We travel from Hertfordshire to go to the Phoenix Inn and we have never been let down. It truly is a lovely place to go and eat be it lunch or dinner. Excellent food. Great atmosphere. Fantastic service.
We had the chateaubriand for two, which was great. The meat was great quality and tasty, and sides and sauces were excellent too. The presentation of the sides probably could have been a bit better - doesn’t bother me but they were tasty enough to justify more! Wine list was good too, and good value.
First time back for us at this venue that we like very much. Obviously the atmosphere was somewhat different owing to the current climate with C19, however the food was excellent as usual and will look forward to our next visit.
Quick lunch but we'll worth the experience.
First time eating out for us since March lockdown and what a relaxing treat it was. As always a friendly greeting, excellent food and great service. Phoenix is the best pub around for miles. Thank you for making a very belated Mothers Day meal special.
We drove 75 miles to have lunch and will do so again.
We had a lovely evening. We had the oysters, chateaubriand and plenty of wine. We can't wait to return!
We had a family meal out on the bank holiday Monday in August. The service was fantastic and the food was delicious. Thank you!
Excellent Sunday lunch with great service and good social distancing - thanks!
Incredible as always!! Amazing food, service and atmosphere. Felt very safe as well in this new Covid world! Fantastic guidelines being followed. We visit regularly as a family. The owner's are so lovely and eating out at The Phoenix Inn always feels like an extension to the family. Thank you! <3
Fantastic value service all round a very pleasant experience
Excellent all round
Great Sunday Roast. The front of house staff gave 100% service. Also the owner executive chief went round all tables greeting the guests. We have been to the Phoenix many times. Many multiple pubs restaurants could learn from this pub restaurant.
An excellent Sunday roast & service.
Absolute amazing roast ! Best Iv ever had ! Will 100% returning ! I love the fact the head chef walks around and chats to you . Very kind lovely staff !!
Food was lovely such a great roast dinner. Everyone was lovely and welcoming. I could see that you were busy and I appreciate that but only thing was we received all our food before we even had our first drink. Will be back.
