About The Phoenix Inn
The Phoenix Inn is an old coaching inn, with lots of nooks and crannies, low ceilings, and uneven floors. This is part of the charm of this 17th century listed building.
Andrew and Sisi Ryder opened this charming restaurant in 2009, and in the last 7 years with the aid of Adrian Culver, head chef, and the whole team have elevated it to one of the best eateries in Hampshire.
The style of food satisfies every mood and pocket, from a fresh sandwich, or ham, egg and chips to oysters, lobster, and Chateaubriand.
Provenance and seasonality are the key elements in formulating the menu, which changes daily. The comprehensive wine list features organic and bio-dynamic, and sulphite free wines, and again is seasonally adjusted. The real ales are Cask Marque accredited and there is a good range of draught lagers, bottled beers, and spirits.
The large peaceful garden is excellent for sunny summer afternoons and the roaring fire in the winter makes The Phoenix a cosy, warm, homely place.
Our meal on Sunday was amazing! The lamb was perfectly cooked as were the roast potatoes. Rhubarb ginger crumble was absolutely amazing! The service was impeccable. Three people from a waitress, front of house and owner all asked us is everything was ok with our meal. We’ll definitely be back.
Excellent Sunday roast, the young lady servers work very hard and the kitchen does a fabulous job. Good value for money but one word of caution, book early to avoid disappointment
Always terrific food and exemplary service. A treat!
The menu is almost too big to select from. The quality is always superb. The staff are friendly and efficient and not overly in your face, as some venues can be. We have always found the Phoenix excellent.
It lovely was a lovely hot, very hot, day and we were put in the dining room which was dark and chilly. When we asked if we could go into the garden we were told no because they (or you) didnt have the staff so we could carry out our order. We duly did so, but felt pretty miffed that we weren't more welcome out there.
Great Sunday lunch.
Always a lovely Sunday lunch Thank you
Lovely food and great service
I've eaten here many times but the service the last time was not good almost as if the waitresses were new to the job. I'll definitely come again.
Fan-bloody-tastic - as usual
A lovely meal as always with great service from the friendly team at The Phoenix, thank you.
I had to ask for the new potato’s that should have come with my meal and didn’t really get an apology. The menu doesn’t really change.
We had a lovely lunch, yet again, at the Phoenix. It would be very difficult to find another venue in the area that could provide such an excellent experience. The welcome is always warm; the menu has excellent variety and whatever one chooses it is cooked and served to perfection. The serving staff are friendly. The test...would we return? You bet; absolutely YES!
Very good all around food
We chose steak night for this visit. The fillet was great and the sirloin good. Lovely green leaf salad, chips, mushroom and grilled tomato. What’s not to like! As ever, the service was great. Friendly helpful smiling staff make all the difference to having a great night out. We shall be back. Thanks.
Even though pre-booked experience was diminished by poor table in corner with one diner facing wall
Plenty of room in restaurant, tables not squashed together. Food delicious. Service efficient and pleasant.
Fab Sunday lunch
Fantastic Sunday roast for 14 friends and family. Best roast chicken and great hospitality. Thank you
Very strange having a set table time as at 6pm everyone arrives and it is very busy. We waited a very long time for our main meal & second round of drinks whilst tables around us had finished their meals & were paying their bills !! First time too I have ever had a chateaubriand served with 'roast dinner' type veg, Yorkshire puddings & no bearnaise sauce. It was more like a posh beef roast dinner !!
Really great food, and considering our group was 14 in total, every dish was served perfectly. The team there was brilliant - great balance of attentiveness, professionalism, sense of humour and customer focus. Everyone in my group commented how good the whole experience was - we will be back, and I will be recommending you guys on Tripadvisor too!
Excellent Sunday lunch and the staff were first class.
Table wasn’t ready so had a drink at the bar for 30 minutes after booking time. Service was slow as the staff were very busy. Wine arrived after chasing and after starters.
Excellent food, great service definitely will be going back
Lotus Seven Club Heritage. The whole event went well, and I had a load of good feedback about the venue from our members.
