About The Phoenix Inn
The Phoenix Inn is an old coaching inn, with lots of nooks and crannies, low ceilings, and uneven floors. This is part of the charm of this 17th century listed building.
Andrew and Sisi Ryder opened this charming restaurant in 2009, and in the last 7 years with the aid of Adrian Culver, head chef, and the whole team have elevated it to one of the best eateries in Hampshire.
The style of food satisfies every mood and pocket, from a fresh sandwich, or ham, egg and chips to oysters, lobster, and Chateaubriand.
Provenance and seasonality are the key elements in formulating the menu, which changes daily. The comprehensive wine list features organic and bio-dynamic, and sulphite free wines, and again is seasonally adjusted. The real ales are Cask Marque accredited and there is a good range of draught lagers, bottled beers, and spirits.
The large peaceful garden is excellent for sunny summer afternoons and the roaring fire in the winter makes The Phoenix a cosy, warm, homely place.
Just an excellent pub . You can’t get better !
We ordered Onglet from the Steak Night Menu. It was the best meal we have eaten for a long while.Perfectly cooked. Highly recommended and great value with a glass of wine included in the price. Will definitely be returning soon.
Lovely time and great entertainment. Loved the carols and Morris men! Excellent food and lovely atmosphere. We will be back - often!!
I have been to the Phoenix on many occasions and enjoyed my meal. However my friend and I came for lunch on Tuesday and had a bad experience. The service was pleasant but very slow. Every time we asked a question the girls had to go away to ask someone else, For examples "What gins do you stock" . This is down to a lack of training. We waited a long time for our main course which was mushroom risotto. The portion size was very small and we both went home hungry. It was vastly under seasoned and we both had to add plenty of salt and some pepper (and I am someone who rarely adds additional seasoning to my food) It was also expensive for what we received. My problem is that I had already booked for a party of 7 to have dinner with you on Sunday evening and I am now wondering whether our guests will receive the same level of service and quality and quantity of food. I am thinking of maybe going elsewhere as it is very important to me that they have a wonderful experience.
Five star in every way
My son said this was still the best Sunday Lunch he has ever had in a restaurant. We always go here for family events and there were eleven of us. Love the fact the veg are topped up whenever you need them. Andrew is a great host.
Although you were short of staff the lunch was fantastic. We appreciated being given a table in an alcove. We will come again soon.
The BEST Sunday lunch! I wouldn’t go anywhere else.
Excellent evening. Great service & atmosphere. Wonderful food.
Would highly recommend - great dining experience
Unable to bring fault to any section. Well done to you all. My family will be using the Phoenix again and again.
Sitting in the back room is difficult as you can hear the chef shouting orders in the kitchen and a really intrusive buzzer when food is ready but food is good.
Lovely cosy atmosphere, good was delicious.
We both had a delicious liver and bacon lunch but at £18.95 each we thought it was expensive no issues about the quality.
Excellent all around - chateaubriand cooked to perfection!
Great pub with fantastic food and friendly service.
Excellent roast, great service.
Great food great service
Staff were very accommodating when we turned up with a wheelchair and hadn’t mentioned it when booking.
Food was excellent although not enough vegetables for 4 people for our Sunday lunch. Been twice recently and although seated on time had to wait 45mins before order was taken.
Myself and husband fancied a nice lunch, and the Phoenix has never let us down, food is always cool perfect, staff are incredible! All very good at there jobs! Was perfect for a Sunday afternoon! Thanks again we will of course back back again soon!
A very enjoyable Sunday lunch and Jazz enjoyed all of the attention!
some courses excellent and some v average . Pub seemed v busy . Dauphinoise a bit dry and prawn cocktail a bit watery . Fish was excellent as was the lamb. Nice beer
Good quality food in a traditional setting. Love it. Jx
Always a lovely place to go. Nice, comfortable feel, friendly staff and quality food.
