About The Phoenix Inn
The Phoenix Inn is an old coaching inn, with lots of nooks and crannies, low ceilings, and uneven floors. This is part of the charm of this 17th century listed building.
Andrew and Sisi Ryder opened this charming restaurant in 2009, and in the last 7 years with the aid of Adrian Culver, head chef, and the whole team have elevated it to one of the best eateries in Hampshire.
The style of food satisfies every mood and pocket, from a fresh sandwich, or ham, egg and chips to oysters, lobster, and Chateaubriand.
Provenance and seasonality are the key elements in formulating the menu, which changes daily. The comprehensive wine list features organic and bio-dynamic, and sulphite free wines, and again is seasonally adjusted. The real ales are Cask Marque accredited and there is a good range of draught lagers, bottled beers, and spirits.
The large peaceful garden is excellent for sunny summer afternoons and the roaring fire in the winter makes The Phoenix a cosy, warm, homely place.
I know its unusual times dealing with a global pandemic but the experience this time was not that special. I had advised when booking that it was a special lunch for my daughter's 18th birthday. There was no acknowledgement of that upon arrival or at any point during our meal. I will think twice about coming here for celebratory events in future.
We come to the Phoenix quite a lot. We love your food. However if I were to be honest I was a bit disappointed with the Ceasar salad. The evening sitting in the garden was lovely. Service very professional as usual.
Excellent service and a great menu. Covid19 precautions in place and easy to social distance both inside and outside.
Always have a great time at the Phoenix. Catered to all our requests easily and happily. We were the last customers in there (was a long awaited girls night out) and we didn’t feel any pressure to leave and the staff were so friendly to us.
Great food as always. Great staff. Our second visit in 2 weeks!
Excellent service - waitress was fantastic! Great food - massive portions and really good value. Many thanks!
We had a lovely meal yesterday, the service was very good and a lovely smiley waitress! The food was delicious as always and we sat in the garden under a gazebo which was perfect for a family meal out! Thankyou v much Andrew and Sissi
So happy to see you open! Excellent as always even with all the procedures in place. Ours meals were fantastic, quality food served in the beautiful gardens, not forgetting the friendly customer service. Well done.
Rather large sandwiches!
God quality food and efficient service
Great service in these difficult times and well laid out/spoken instructions on social distancing and hygiene. Very polite and attentive staff. Would have got 5 stars on food for my cod & chips but the bottom of the battered fish was soggy as it was on top of the chips which in turn were soggy. Suggest these are served side by side on the plate!
We had a lovely time and the food was great Not enough veg with our roast! I small dish of each to share with 4 people was mean and also bit shocked that we were charged for bread to mop up those lovely juices from the scallops . The bread def should be part of the dish
Wonderful as always!
Marvellous food and lovely welcome from a great team maintaining the highest standards under COVID 19 conditions. Well done everyone.
Ours was a table of 5 adults. The meal was very good. The service was also good. We all had the Sunday roast beef with Yorkshire pudding meal. Unfortunately my wife's beef was the end piece so one bit was overdone and the other was quite small. The puddings (Crumble with custard) were served on a flat plates rather than in bowls like we saw another table being served the same pudding in bowls. Disappointing.! A bit on the pricy side I'd say.
Great as always
Lovely afternoon lunch. The staff were really friendly and provided a lovely service, very attentie ensuring we had eveything we needed. The food was fantastic. Will definately be visiting again!
Lovely meal and wine, good attentive service, very safe environment. Very impressed!
Fantastic food and service with a great choice of drinks. We decided to sit outside within the marquee area given the lovely weather which was really nice.
The service and the atmosphere at this beautiful restaurant set in the picturesque village of Hartley Witney was outstanding. We chose the Roast chicken and Roast Lamb which were cooked to perfection and would like to thank all the staff which made our day so enjoyable. A Big Thank you to everyone.
Under difficult circumstances, staff were doing a good job and we had a very enjoyable meal in the marquee in the garden.
A lovely welcome by team - everything professionally handled in this difficult time. Drinks in the beautiful garden, and a great lunch in the dinning room - Hubby enjoyed his birthday and even better Son paid - result!
Team was quick on replying to my request. Great service and food, would recommend!
Food was lovely, as always. We were in the garden which meant the service was a tad slow at times.
