About The Phoenix Inn
The Phoenix Inn is an old coaching inn, with lots of nooks and crannies, low ceilings, and uneven floors. This is part of the charm of this 17th century listed building.
Andrew and Sisi Ryder opened this charming restaurant in 2009, and in the last 7 years with the aid of Adrian Culver, head chef, and the whole team have elevated it to one of the best eateries in Hampshire.
The style of food satisfies every mood and pocket, from a fresh sandwich, or ham, egg and chips to oysters, lobster, and Chateaubriand.
Provenance and seasonality are the key elements in formulating the menu, which changes daily. The comprehensive wine list features organic and bio-dynamic, and sulphite free wines, and again is seasonally adjusted. The real ales are Cask Marque accredited and there is a good range of draught lagers, bottled beers, and spirits.
The large peaceful garden is excellent for sunny summer afternoons and the roaring fire in the winter makes The Phoenix a cosy, warm, homely place.
Great meal we had on wednesday the sirloin steaks were amazing cooked beautifully!! Service was great! Would recommend. Thankyou again
As always fabulous food and great service. Our favourite 'go to' pub only wish we lived locally so it could be our 'local'.
Brought some friends here on the basis that it's the best Sunday lunch of any pub I know, it didn't disappoint either my friends or I. Wonderful setting, beautifully prepared and presented fresh food, all served by brilliant staff who really care. Well done!!
Atmosphere was great, service was exceptional, the food was unfortunately over priced and boring, usual pub classics well presented, well cooked, very well done, but in all honesty nothing special, could of had the same food of the same quality anywhere else but at 20% less cost. Skipped starter as nothing was inspiring and thought save it for desert, very disappointed when the desert menu came out, summer pudding and ice cream, that was about it, no choice for a man, chocolate pud, fudge cake, treacle sponge pudding. All the pub classics on the mains but nothing on the deserts. If you want a good atmosphere and extremely good service then this is your place but unfortunately nothing else is enspiring, unfortunately I won’t be going back.
Best pub roast I've ever had.
We had an evening meal in a party of six which included a vegetarian and a vegan. Whilst there was nothing vegan on the menu, they were willing to adapt the vegetarian options. Vegetarian options are limited but what was on offer was well cooked and appetising. All the non veggies were very satisfied as the menu was varied and interesting.
Great food! Good service! Top prints in the gents! 😃 Strongly recommend!
Booked online which was followed up by a call on the morning checking we were still dining, callers bruff tone was more like a purveyor of bad news! On arrival there was a long wait at the bar before someone dealt with us requiring the chef to cal for extra help. Food was very good when it did arrive, but there were long delays between courses and later diners were abandoned while staff rearranged tables and chairs for groups of diners arriving. The food was good, but the below par service all-round made it a poor value for money dining experience IMO.
excellent service and atmosphere .Food very varied and good .Plenty of parking .To be recommended.
Fabulous Sunday lunch, great service and love the ambience! Keep it this good and we’ll keep coming back!
Been bringing family and friends for many years Never had bad service or food
Well worth a visit , good service , fresh food , attentive staff. A good all round ambience.
Had a lovely meal and was looked after very well.
I ordered the sausage, mash and onion gravy. It didn’t come with any veg, not even peas. I asked and was only offered a side salad to go with it. When it arrived, it was presented in a deep bowl, the mash was at the bottom, literally covered to the brim in gravy with the most enormous sausage drowning it on top. Mash was like runny mush, very salty and I should have sent it back but was too polite in from of my friend who was paying for my dinner. The portion was enormous, the presentation was awful and the gravy should be to the side so you can opt out of having it like a soup. I went back to my hotel and promptly threw up. Nice pub, friendly service, reasonable prices, nothing amazing on the menu but I would re think your sausage and mash combination.
A really good dining experience - we went for steak night.
Lamb over cooked and not enough veg for 4 ( got the same amount as the table of 2 next to us) had to ask for more Staff lovely and friendly and attentive
Service was fantastic, all staff were engaging and friendly. Blood was of a very high standard and the questions we had were answered quickly and with positively.
Chips with everything is not to everyones taste.
Been to The Phoenix serval time now and food has always been excellent
Nice meal.with friendly service.
wonderful service, very nice food, very friendly staff, many thanks!!!
Food and drink were fine (as we would expect) but we were disappointed that mussels were sold put by 1945
The menus available on line the staff seemed to have no idea existed. The menu was very winter themed for a boiling hot summer day. The Eton mess was returned as it had no meringue in it (had obviously been made too long ago so all dissolved in) Staff were friendly and helpful. Though when I asked about the menu no one ever came back to let me know if it existed or not
It was a very busy evening but that did not impact on the quality of the food or the friendly staff. We really enjoyed ourselves.
