About The Phoenix Inn
The Phoenix Inn is an old coaching inn, with lots of nooks and crannies, low ceilings, and uneven floors. This is part of the charm of this 17th century listed building.
Andrew and Sisi Ryder opened this charming restaurant in 2009, and in the last 7 years with the aid of Adrian Culver, head chef, and the whole team have elevated it to one of the best eateries in Hampshire.
The style of food satisfies every mood and pocket, from a fresh sandwich, or ham, egg and chips to oysters, lobster, and Chateaubriand.
Provenance and seasonality are the key elements in formulating the menu, which changes daily. The comprehensive wine list features organic and bio-dynamic, and sulphite free wines, and again is seasonally adjusted. The real ales are Cask Marque accredited and there is a good range of draught lagers, bottled beers, and spirits.
The large peaceful garden is excellent for sunny summer afternoons and the roaring fire in the winter makes The Phoenix a cosy, warm, homely place.
Always enjoy going. Food and drink is excellent
We had a fantastic meal on Sunday, thank you.
Fabulous Sunday lunch! We will be back! Thank you!
Love the food and drink, waitresses are very nice and helpful, chef always comes around and says hello! My favourite Sunday roast!
Couldn’t fault it Food is always great - lovely cosy pub feel Relaxed but attentive service
Best Sunday roast ever! Can’t wait to return
Very good meal
Delicious roast dinner. Could be improved with better vegetable selection I.e carrots, broccoli, green beans etc. But the meat, potatoes etc were amazing. Great that we had a jug of gravy on the table and the cauliflower cheese was spot on. Maybe a children’s menu would be good.
We had to get our own drinks from the bar every time as staff were not around
A very enjoyable evening, and lovely atmosphere,
Best food and service we have had on a night out for a long time. Can't recommend enough!
Fantastic place, love it . Always come away feeling full and happy .
Always great food here and it's always busy which gives it a good atmosphere. Slightly disappointed with the service from the waitresses. They seemed frustrated with us and just wanted to hurry us up. Our group was consultant surgeons there for a dinner meeting so some people arrived later due to late running hospital lists. Just would have been nice to have friendlier, smilier waitresses. Once we had eaten I could have easily walked out without paying as noone came back to our table after dessert and I had to go up to the bar to pay the bill on my way out.
We had a really good lunch with friends and will choose the Phoenix again
We came for my 40th birthday meal. It took a while for the menus to arrive and for drinks to be ordered but from then on in everything was fantastic. Food was superb and the waiting staff very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. 10/10.
Service was slow but the restaurant was full. Ran out of fish and chips which was disappointing. Gluten free menu would have been better for one of our guests. Food was delicious and generous portion sizes.
We visited you on Sunday 2nd Feb at a timed sitting of 3.00pm. We arrived on time but got held in the bar, in a crush, before we were seated after about 10 minutes. After 2hrs, at 5,00 pm, we had received only a main course and one drink. We were offered desserts but were told most of them were not avialable. Poor I think considering the number of covers must have been known in advance. We won't visit again on a Sunday all the time fixed time sittings are in place. I does not work well from a diner's perspective.
It would be helpful if there was a disabled toilet or a toilet that could be reached without going up a step.
Love this place it’s always a fantastic experience and one of the best in the area. Keep up good work 👌😉
Yet again a perfect evening with good food, great service and a welcoming atmosphere.
We had a lovely Sunday roast for my dad’s 70th. Our waitress was very attentive and the food was delicious. My mum and I had the vegetarian roast and the others had the beef roast. The beef was excellent quality and all came with a selection of vegetables including a mixed cabbage, pea and silverskin onions which was lovely. The chef also came around to check everyone was happy with their food which was a nice touch. It does get very busy so quite noisy and gets extremely hot if seated next to the fire! Would definitely recommend.
Well organised on a busy Sunday dinner sitting. The waiting staff could make their lives easier by clearing the table of unwanted glasses before bringing out the many serving dishes. Wonderful hot fresh food and the meat raffle is great. I love the pub and always take my family and friends when they visit.
As always, excellent food and service
Booked this for a friends birthday. Ordered food by.7.45./8.pm. Starter arrived.8,45. When cleared asked if we’d like to see the dessert menu.😱 Then at,9.15. We were told no more fish.. very disappointed, and although they did take the wine off the bill, the evening was just not uo to what it used to be..and feel the staff need more training..
