About The Phoenix Inn
The Phoenix Inn is an old coaching inn, with lots of nooks and crannies, low ceilings, and uneven floors. This is part of the charm of this 17th century listed building.
Andrew and Sisi Ryder opened this charming restaurant in 2009, and in the last 7 years with the aid of Adrian Culver, head chef, and the whole team have elevated it to one of the best eateries in Hampshire.
The style of food satisfies every mood and pocket, from a fresh sandwich, or ham, egg and chips to oysters, lobster, and Chateaubriand.
Provenance and seasonality are the key elements in formulating the menu, which changes daily. The comprehensive wine list features organic and bio-dynamic, and sulphite free wines, and again is seasonally adjusted. The real ales are Cask Marque accredited and there is a good range of draught lagers, bottled beers, and spirits.
The large peaceful garden is excellent for sunny summer afternoons and the roaring fire in the winter makes The Phoenix a cosy, warm, homely place.
Top quality restaurant pub. The produce is great quality, locally sourced and superbly prepared and presented. The staff are brilliant and attentive, not overly so, even Chef popped round the tables for a quick chat - nice touch! Our 3rd visit here, will deffo come again! We do a lot of pub lunches and critiquing; The Phoenix currently has our No 1 rating!
Usually the Sunday roast is always enjoyable but this Easter Sunday I did feel the potatoes and parsnips where reheated and not to the usual standard , I am in catering myself as a chef and now as catering manager for 40 years & and I notice these things. But as always atmosphere was good 👍
The best place for Sunday lunch. We wouldn't go anywhere else! Superb food, great atmosphere, friendly staff, reasonably priced.
Mushroom starter was small (but tasty). Our main waitress was superb, good fun and v professional
Fantastic as always
Excellent food and service as ever. It was a quiet lunchtime, hence one star less for atmosphere, but it suited us perfectly as we were having a business meeting. Definitely will be back Thanks to everyone at the Phoenix!
Food was excellent although one of our party ordered rump steak and was told they had run out bit disappointing as it was only 7.30. There was quite a wait between courses and we ended up waiting 20/25 minutes for someone to come back and take our payment which was surprising as by 10o’clock the Restaurant wasnt busy. We will have no hesitation on returning and plan to take friends.
Attentative staff. Delicious food.
It’s a shame that there is no baby change facility. Staff could tell people when a customer books a table and requests a high chair that there is no facilities available. I had to change my baby on the cold floor in the ladies toilet, which was not nice for me or my baby.
My wife and two daughters had the chicken and they all loved it. I had the roast beef and it was chewy and difficult to cut. Overall we had a lovely Sunday lunch. The best roast dinner around.
Always lovely, amazing food and friendly staff!
Great food with excellent service. The extra vegetable's was a super selling point. We left heartily fed & watered. Superb Sunday lunch Thank you!
Food, drink, service excellent A lovely evening Thank you
Service was slow, drinks took a very long time to arrive. Food was average, but the was it was presented was a bit extravagant. Everything was on boards and in little trays. It looked pretty but the table was cluttered and I'm a believer that less is more. The food could have been done better and presented simpler. Saying that, the sticky toffee pudding was the best I've ever had. I'd give the pudding 5*+. Not sure I'd go back.
I award 5 stars for every category because the Phoenix has achieved these results on every occasion that my family and I have dined at the Phoenix.
Amazing roast dinner
Had a lovely Mother's Day dinner here. The food was excellent, the portion sizes were great, everyone was full and very satisfied, no room for pudding. the service was excellent too, we will definitely come back
Absolutely delicious Roast for Mother’s Day lunch. Service was superb, nothing was too much trouble and even helped with choosing a pudding! Thanks for a lovely meal
We often recommend The Phoenix to fri mds and family. Professional service, amazing food and a comfortable setting. One of our favourite venues to eat at.
Great food. Jed (our waiter) was outstanding. Friendly and very attentive - Many thanks
