About The Phoenix Inn
The Phoenix Inn is an old coaching inn, with lots of nooks and crannies, low ceilings, and uneven floors. This is part of the charm of this 17th century listed building.
Andrew and Sisi Ryder opened this charming restaurant in 2009, and in the last 7 years with the aid of Adrian Culver, head chef, and the whole team have elevated it to one of the best eateries in Hampshire.
The style of food satisfies every mood and pocket, from a fresh sandwich, or ham, egg and chips to oysters, lobster, and Chateaubriand.
Provenance and seasonality are the key elements in formulating the menu, which changes daily. The comprehensive wine list features organic and bio-dynamic, and sulphite free wines, and again is seasonally adjusted. The real ales are Cask Marque accredited and there is a good range of draught lagers, bottled beers, and spirits.
The large peaceful garden is excellent for sunny summer afternoons and the roaring fire in the winter makes The Phoenix a cosy, warm, homely place.
First time visit to meet friends at a halfway point for both of us - a 2 hour drive from Swanage,Dorset for us. Excellent food, staff really helpful and friendly. Very relaxed atmosphere, lovely place. Only very tiny minor point, when needed to vacate restaurant area for the evening dinner setting up not enough comfy chairs for 4 people to sit on together.
We had an excellent meal and will certainly be returning!
Just love eating and drinking at The Phoenix !
We did not appreciate the automatic service charge at 10% on the end of our bill. A ‘tip’ should discretionary, earned by the standard of the service received.
Always very friendly young staff 😊 Great food lovely atmosphere can highly recommend it.
Excellent customer service
Thank you Sissy for making what was a very sad day a great success in remembering Alan. Wonderful food and great service. Thank you Graham
The best Sunday roast around by far! Lovely staff and amazing food.
A very enjoyable evening... great food, wine and service. Thank you.
Lovely food. the chef pops round to see how things are. Nice touch!
We arrived at 8:00 pm and, initially, the atmosphere was lively. By 2100 the restaurant was emptying so the atmosphere went from great to quiet. The food and service were both excellent
Tha rump of lamb is amazing.
The service was very good, the 4 of us enjoyed the food very much; good range of choices on the menu.
Lovely restaurant and staff very friendly
Food was lovely but slightly overpriced. Couldn’t fault the staff and the ambience
Normally the meals at The Phoenix are very good however our last experience was quite poor.
Fiendly and attentive service and food was excellent Could not really be bettered
Great food as always! Thank you
We have been before but this was our first visit for Sunday lunch. The food was excellent, as was the atmosphere. Will definitely come again
Wonderful to sit in the sunny garden where the children could run around safely. (By the way, signs about lost children being sent to the circus may amuse - but children can read too. Bad taste humour).
Lovely food however menu has not changed for a long time - certainly over a year. Have to comment on the spotless toilets though - excellent
We always love the Sunday lunch .. great service and a lovely pub .. never disappoints..
One of the best Sunday lunches I have had and great service. Will be back!
What a lovely evening for my partners birthday meal. Service was friendly and efficient. The food was fantastic. Surrounding were lovely. Thank you for a memorable evening.....we will return. :)
Wonderful food and service as always, special shout out to Monic, Helen. Sisi and Andrew for looking after us so well!
