About The Pen Factory
Tucked away below the hustle and bustle of Hope Street, The Pen Factory is the reincarnation of the original Everyman Bistro. Culinary entrepreneur Paddy Byrne has recreated the same relaxed armosphere in this new home just next door, and customers can expect the same friendly welcome and quality food and drink.
With a wide selection of spirits, wines and beers on the menu and small plates perfect for sharing customers can enjoy a drink or a bite to eat in the buzz of our subterranean home or in the quiet oasis of our garden.
Taking inspiration from the Lang Pen Company which operated here in the late 1800's, we're building on our own Hope Street history and writing the next chapter at The Pen Factory.
Great food and great atmosphere, probably needs additional staff when it’s really busy, like it was on Saturday night as they seemed a bit stretched other than a really great night.
I found it a very relaxed and friendly experience and will definitely visit again, thank you
Lovely atmosphere and ideal for a meal prior to visiting the Everyman Theatre!
Staff very friendly, food and drinks lovely and a really good, varied menu, took us ages to decide what we wanted!
Lovely food, great atmosphere and super staff!
Always enjoy eating at the Pen Factory. We went on a busy Saturday night and the service was exemplary
Great atmosphere and quick service pre a concert . Food was lovely
Excellent location and amazing food. We had great service.
We have been planning to visit following recommendations and we were not disappointed. Excellent on all counts! Cant wait to come back.
Great service as ever. The 'small plate' concept can be problematic (e.g. one member of a party served long before the others) but when it comes the food is always fab. Great wine and beer choice.
Great food and excellent service
Fantastic food, great beer The hummus and sourdough is amazing, as is the beer battered sardines and mackerel. However, the poached eggs on the mackerel were soft but not runny. The hake and the salmon were lovely and well worth an order as were the special cauliflower fritters. However, the cauliflower fritters even though they were cooked to perfection (al dented and not soft or mushy) needed a bit of salt in them. All in all a meal well worth it Well done
Good dinner time
A lovely little find. Food delicious, nice staff and pleasant surroundings.
We were a large group and the friendly service and help received arranging the evening and throughout was brilliant Food, drink, and atmosphere all excellent
Apart from swapping sea bass and salmon accompaniments (wrong ones!) a superb mixture well cooked and service excellent.
Poor meal. My daughter ordered a prawn dish and was shocked when all she got was about 6 prawns in about a tablespoon of sauce. Luckily, she also ordered chips, but they weren't much, either. We complained to a staff member, but we're told they were tapas. It didn't say that anywhere, just meat, fish dishes, etc. She was just as hungry after the meal as before. We were offered ten percent off the bill because we were upset, but I doubt we will return. The staff were nice, though.
great！and waitress always have their passion to us
The food was very tasty as a whole, but two of us ordered the fish pie, which was lovely and buttery, but had next to no fish in it - lots of carrots, a tonne of mashed potato, but I didn’t find one lump of fish in mine! Also, the eat n mess was brought out with a measly portion of two raspberries placed on top, as posed to the strawberries promised on the menu, which was again a bit dissapointing.
Great food and ambience but unfortunately the service was very unsatisfactory. We received the wrong drinks twice and did not receive half of our food. The staff were then also quite rude and curt when communicated with.
Great find. Recommend for a relaxing evening.
We had a good night. Thanks very much!
Great evening, service and food were great and staff accommodating despite several changes to times and numbers. Will definitely be back :)
The food was fantastic and there was a good atmosphere but we didn’t find the service great. Once we had ordered our food and first round of drinks, we were not approached by a single staff member to check if we were ok for everything. We had wanted to order more drinks during the meal but no one came to attend to our table. We managed to then get the attention of one man as we wanted more crackers, he went to get some and left them on the very end of the table without speaking to us so we again didn’t have the opportunity to ask for more drinks. A girl then later came over to clear our plates and we asked if we could get drinks and also see the dessert menu, she told us that the kitchen was now closed so we couldn’t have dessert. We felt a member of staff should have advised us when we came in or even during our main course about what time the kitchen closed as we would have ordered dessert sooner to ensure we got some, but again we weren’t told until we asked and no one had checked on us during the meal. I had also explained at the start that i have a nut allergy. The girl said she would check the dishes that I had ordered but she never came back to inform/reassure me. We were then served by a different lady for just drinks at the end of the night and she was lovely. We just the other staff hindered the experience greatly and actually stopped us from spending money that we wanted to spend.
I like the Pen Factory very much. Although I had booked on line in the after noon for a table for 2 at 8 15. There was no record of booking when we first arrived. We then given a table near the bar. No service then for 30 mins not even for drinks. We were then told there was a hold on orders as it was so busy. We therefore left.
