About The Palmerston
An amazing local’s pub complete with fantastic food, with our Sunday roast being recognised London-wide.
Locally brewed beers, including low and alcohol free, the “must-have” in lagers and IPA brands, a great selection of brandies, whisky and, of course, those ubiquitous gins and Fever tree tonics with fresh berries and greens.
Have a big red like Bethany Grenache, a Bodegas Malbec, or chill with a Paxton Estate organic white, Petit Chablis or Vondeling Babiana, amongst many others specially selected. Whether it’s a drink with the mates, catchup with the girls or a ‘can’t- cook- tonight’ dinner with the kids – drop down to the Palmerston and enjoy this amazing historic bar with its dark wood panelling and, of course, the open fires in the winter. All of this in the heart of this thriving south London high street.

The staff were funny and very accommodating, food was great, sticky toffee pudding was huge and delicious.
We had a great lunch here. The service and food were excellent. Sadly they had run out of sticky toffee pudding by the time we got to dessert. (Which was quite late in the day). We will definitely be back to try it. Thank you
Great neighbourhood restaurant
Delicious food and the welcome /service were excellent
We were given a fabulous table and the service was excellent and friendly. We love coming here for Sunday roast!
Food was just OK. Very little stilton in my walnut and stilton starter. My salmon main was underwhelming in tase and presentation. Service came with a side of comedy that quickly grew tiring (nice bloke – sorry). I had to fumble about to find our coats at the end of the evening from a heavily burdened coat stand in the corner, whilst trying not to knock the (fab) guitarist while he was playing. Atmosphere was nice, but the food wasn't really anything special if I'm honest.
All good except the Yorkshire puddings were a huge disappointment- dry and like eating cardboard- they used to be amazing 😞
Amazing roast & service and doggy friendly. Staff are great!
The smoke from the woodfire gave us all a headache, stung our eyes and aggravated my asthma. The chimney needs to be professionally cleaned to extract the smoke and you need to make sure your wood is dry. Afterwards our clothes and hair all smelt of smoke. Your staff are working in an unsafe workplace. Burrata and tuna were both good, steaks were underwhelming, chocolate marquise was not chocolatey. Staff were warm and friendly.
Second time back after an amazing first visit a few weeks ago and this time was no different. 10/10. Best roast in town. Great service/atmosphere. We love it and will be back again soon.
As always very enjoyable meal, excellent service, yummy food.
The service was faultless. Very friendly and attentive. The food was good, however the a la carte menu given to us in the restaurant was different to that advertised on the website and there were fewer options available. Specifically, there were fewer vegetarian options (in fact I’m not sure the only seemingly vegetarian option, the risotto, was actually vegetarian as it had parmesan on it), which was a shame. However, the atmosphere and decor of the place was nice and the staff, as mentioned, were great.
Excellent quality but pricey.
Superior service , fantastic food, our evening at the Palmerston was a great way to end the year of 2019. Looking forward to returning in 2020.
Attentive staff and good choices on menu, although I would have liked there to be some kind of pate or terrine for a starter. Nice atmosphere and thankfully no loud music! Would definitely recommend you to friends.
I’m afraid we didn’t have a great meal. It was meant to be our Christmas family meal so having been told that we could have a a festive menu when we booked, when we found out it wasn’t available it was not a good start. Many items were not available from the menu we were offered (wine, starters, mains, desserts all advertised but not available) and the atmosphere of the pub was pretty bleak. It was freezing cold with no music on and it felt like the staff didn’t want us there. We were really disappointed as £200+ is a lot of money for us which we would spend gladly for a good experience but this was far from it. To top it all off they overcharged us for the bill which took half an hour to rectify. I’m sure this pub can do better but this pretty much ruined our Christmas.
We reserved for 7:00 and turned up on time to have no table set for us. We had to repeatedly ask staff for things they forgot. We were told after an hour, when two mains out of 4 were being served, that one of the missing mains was not possible because the kitchen had ran out. Half an hour later, the 4 mains came together but the first two had been left out under the lights and subsequently were cold. The upside was that the manager gave us a decent discount and recognised how badly they’d done.
So disappointed that the previous management are gone. The new owners have turned this place into another pub with terrible food and service. Ordered three steaks and all of them were cooked wrong, with one inedible. Tiny portions too. The salmon sauce was a soup and the fish was more batter than fish. All of the food came a different times. Never again.
Excellent friendly service!
What a shame .
The bread was dry and basic
Great food and fantastic service! The staff was great in accommodating for one of the guests who had low mobility.
service was fine , the food was well below par , the issue is that the Palmerston used to be a cut above your local pub but since the reopening it just seems to have fallen even below those kind of standards . It’s pretty upsetting to be frank given what it used to offer to yesterday’s offerings . Cold fries , forchaccia bread was only basic white bread , steak under and over cooked and the side salad with just a few lettuce leaves and no dressing. I’m not buying the waiters reasoning that it was unusually busy as the restaurant wasn’t even full. We won’t be wasting any money at the Palmerston again . We had waited to go back after the last time in April / May ( previous ownership) and went in open minded but not again . I feel for the staff (front of house) having to put a brave face on but seriously do yourselves some justice .
Service was terrible, we didn’t receive our starters for 45 minutes and we had to ask twice. We had been wanting to eat at the Parmerston for a while and we were disappointed, the food was average and the bad service means we will not come back. It seems that the management is lacking and there needs to be some more organisation.
The food was tasty and a real feast and it’s a beautiful room. Service was not great though - everything took several requests to get, the table I’d booked 2 months ago had to be set on an arrival and there was a real palava paying. Maybe there were temp Christmas staff on shift?
