About The Packhorse
In May 2016 the community of South Stoke was presented with the opportunity to bring The Packhorse pub back under local ownership. The response to the scheme was overwhelming, and in March 2018, this C17th building – the sole pub in the village of South Stoke re-opened as a freehouse, with all its original character intact.
We serve beautiful fresh food from a state of the art kitchen. Our team of chefs are highly skilled with a great pedigree in cooking. Our menu is made up of great British classic dishes and some with more modern twists, seasonality and simplicity is the theme, we are perfect for lunch, dinner and special occasions.
Our fully landscaped garden shows off some stunning views of this quite wonderful countryside, truly breathtaking.
Parking at the pub and in the village is quite limited but there is a lovely short walk into the village from the main Midford road.
We are dog friendly in the garden, and the ground floor only, so please advise when booking if you're bringing the extra member of the family.
If you have any trouble booking please feel free to give us a call and we'll do what we can to help.
Excellent all round
Excellent Sunday Lunch, friendly staff, beautiful location.
Upstairs room very pleasant but table seating rather cramped and the quite high overall noise level in the room we found difficult to cope with hence only 4 stars for atmosphere.
Fabulous Sunday lunch, beautifully cooked and enjoyed in a homely and atmospheric dining room
Lunch at the Packhorse on Saturday was the perfect place for a family gathering. The delicious food was enjoyed by all from age three to ninety.
Lovely Sunday lunch with excellent service. Thank you,
The building itself imparts an instant feelgood factor which is complemented by the friendly staff and the excellent food.
It is useful to be able to pay the bill per person,-thank you. Also your hose outside the back door is good for washing off muddy boots. As the Park and Ride is only 30 minutes away (along the Wansdyke) we can get back to Bradford-on- Avon with ease. We enjoyed our meal,- thank you again. Neil Andrews.
Molly was extremely helpful with our booking Thankyou
Service and food and wine recommendations were excellent!
What a great place! Grace Dent was right! Wish we lived closer so we could keep going back,
Delicious wholesome food and a roaring fire. Perfect.
I can’t speak highly enough of the help and thoughtfulness in accommodating our large group booking for Sunday lunch. Everything was perfect and we had a lovely time. All 3 courses of food were extremely nice, including the deserts ; a sign of good food at a pub. Thank you. Heather Ash.
Warm, friendly and welcoming pub in a beautiful, historical, characterful building. The food was delicious and served promptly and efficiently. A lovely place with a 'cosy' feel. Will be returning soon x
Great meal, really enjoyed our Sunday roast
Another delicious Sunday lunch at the Packhorse. I can highly recommend the falafel.
Lovely place to go for great food and atmosphere.
Very over priced.
Super lovely historic venue! Excellent food, ambience, attention to detail and music choice! Will definitely be back for more!
What a great enterprise.
Great local pub, nice place and relaxed athmosphire.. we had food few times and it has always been very well made and tasty.. Some dishes might be slightly on a pricey side but there are few to choose from and the quality is very good .. would defo reccomend and would also come back ..
Wonderful pub, great food, service, cider and selection of dogs!
We came for The Packhorse AGM. As a result the pub was very busy. we had pre booked a table, very important to do. The menu a good mix of dishes and the service quick. Food and surroundings excellent. What's not to like? Would recommend highly.
Always a warm friendly welcome and fabulous food!
The dining room became quite noisy when a large group of 8-9 were seated next to our table.
