About The Ox Clifton
Here at The Ox Clifton, we believe in creating exceptional food using local, seasonal produce which has been cooked to perfection by our expert chefs. And whilst steak & cocktails are at the heart of everything we do, there’s a vast range of stunning small plates, classic charcuterie, superb sides and of course, delectable desserts on offer. And whilst we’re not ones to brag, word on the street is our Sunday Roast is one of the best in Bristol! Until the end of the Summer we will be serving BRUNCH on Sundays instead of our Sunday Roast.
This is our favourite restaurant! Delicious food. Not the cheapest but you definitely get great quality in line with cost, I wouldn’t change it!
Lovely atmosphere, good service and amazing food! Highly recommended.
Service was superb, I have eaten better steak and for the money it was a little disappointing, starters and pudding faultless, I didn't complain at the time as I didn't wish to spoil our evening, you just expect it to be right first time
Fantastic steak and great service, it was a pleasure to dine at The Ox Clifton. A great date restaurant!
We had an excellent Sunday lunch. Food and service both great
The restaurant was very cold and even colder in the toilets. It was very difficult to get a servers attention and we felt the food and drinks were rather over priced. Empty glasses weren’t cleared. Overall we were very disappointed especially considering the price!
Unfortunately our experience was not great. Started off well and went downhill. Three Filet steaks ordered. One was fine. One we were given our money back. One was part chewy and difficult to cut and part ok. 2 medium cooked and one medium rare. When they came the waitress was unsure which was which. I swapped mine with my husband as they were incorrect. Three starters ordered. Scallops wete lovely. The other starter was not very tasty. All 4 of us had desserts. The tiramasu was lovely. The three others were icecream which was so cold tasteless and had ice particles. Very unimpressed. Also all sides which included fries were chargeable as were any sauces. Not worth the money and probably won't ever grace the doors again. Very sad as we wete so looking forward to eating there. Overpriced and overrated.
Warm atmosphere with friendly staff and comfortable seating. Rating dropped as steak, the main reason for the visit of course, was over cooked. Also, the ice cream in the affagato was icy like it’s just been sat in a tub in the freezer until service. Would have like it softer and with a better quality espresso topping it. These reasons meant our meal did not represent value for money. Does not compare to many other steakhouses in Bristol and surrounding areas.
Can’t fault the food on the whole however a few disappointing things. £4 for 2 slices of pretty dry and unappetising bread seemed very excessive. Also, no drinks menu provided until we asked, although there were only three tables the wait was still nearly 45 minutes. And then had to wait a further 20 minutes after we’d eaten for our tables to be cleared and to get the bill. Would return as the steak and eggs were delicious but not the best service.
Disappointed to have to send an overcooked medium/rare steak back (being that this is a speciality steak restaurant) but second time was good. Service was great. And we would come back.
A special treat for my friends and me. TBH your normal prices would be too much for me. But the 40% discount was great. Fabulous food. Beautiful place. Thank you :)
Really good. Although bit expensive.
The only reason I marked the service down as our drinks were forgotten and we didn’t get them until after we had finished our starter and our main was being delivered but staff were otherwise lovely and friendly. It is very expensive so a treat to come to or when you have the 40% offer (which is amazing value for money) But the food is fantastic lovely friendly staff will definitely come again
delicious food and wine, very helpful staff
Lovely environment Nice table and friendly attentive staff Very disappointed to get a tough rib eye steak full of tough gristle. Never had a bad rib eye steak anywhere before. My partners was good however. I got a replacement but this meant my partner had finished his meal before mine was replaced Didn’t like the fact it was served up with sprouts and mac cheese plonked on the plate rather than brought separately as it was originally. They forgot to replace fries I needed to ask/wait for replacement Didn’t feel the service charge should have been out on my bill under the circumstances
Delicious food, early evening meal good value for.money...will be coming back...
Atmosphere and Services were excellent, Good customer service. Food was good and desert delicious I really enjoyed my dinner at The Ox. But I have to mention that I found the portion of the sides are too small.
Amazing food as always!
Well worth a trip for excellent food
This is by far the best steakhouse in Bristol. Fact. The meat is always cooked to perfection with a lovely charred taste from the grill, plus all sauces and side dishes are yummy. I highly rate and recommend this restaurant. Verdict: DELICIOUS!!! 10/10
I was really disappointed. We were taking our son out for his birthday meal. He ordered a £26 steak and chips were an extra £4! Really poor value for money. I had a very chewy rump steak salad. The steak was cooked as requested, and I know rump can be chewy, but I struggled to cut the meat up with a blunt steak knife. There are so many nice restaurants in Bristol, we won't be going back. So disappointing.
The food was good. The negatives :The bread for sharing was the same bread with one small piece of butter, which we had to ask more for. It would have been nice if there was a selection and balsamic vinegar etc. We ordered sparkling water which was put on the table it should have been poured. The first glass of champagne was flat and we had to keep looking out for staff. There was a lot of staff on so they should have been more alert. Also when I was leaving I had to ask for my coat so overall we wouldn’t be going back.
We were seated clustered closely to other diners in a very quiet restaurant. The staff we fine with moving us when we asked, but I don't feel we should have needed to. We asked for our starters to be delayed in the Kitchen whilst we drank our aperitif, but it was served immediately. We ordered before 7pm which meant we received a 40% discount on food, which made the meal good value for money, but at full price the food would have felt not good value.
