AA 4 Gold Star Inn
Tim Hayward Financial Times Review Sept 2019 - 'The Olive Branch filled me with joy. The surroundings are charming with a degree of ramshackleness that bespeaks shy authenticity. It was filled with happy people — locals who can’t believe their luck and a few travellers who know its secret.'
As always we had a wonderful lunch at the Olive Branch - sublime food and excellent service. My favourite place to eat!
Another excellent meal as always. We only visit when in the area as we live in Norfolk, but never fails to impress. Very good.
Everything about our 2 night stay was just superb. We really could not fault a single thing!! Both the pub & Beech House have a certain charm which immediately makes you relaxed. The staff without exception were all friendly and smiling!! The food was amazing......need I say any more...Eccles Cakes will never be the same again, until I return!! The Team at the Olive Branch have got it so right.......long may it continue.....thank you
This was our first visit ... everything was superb and a nice way to celebrate my partner's birthday. Thank you. We will be back!
Always a pleasure to visit The Olive Branch, just not able to do so as often as previously. A most agreeable and very cosy atmosphere with attentive staff. The food Is a feast to the eyes as well as tasting delicious.
Best black pudding I've ever had! Very welcoming with a nice laid back atmosphere. Wish I could afford to come more often!
Very attentive staff
Three of us booked for lunch on Friday Delightful experience Low key but excellent service Great food
Always tasty food and a warm welcome.
A superb dining experience, where the food not only tasted amazing, was also presented in an exceptional way. The staff as always were friendly, professional and knowledgeable about their food and wine. A complete 5 star experience and my opinion worthy of a Michelin star.
All i can do is endorse Tim Hayward's review ----we had the most delightful lunch yesterday and i know of no other pub/restaurant that can produce food like that. Three courses of food Heaven. Thank you very much Team
Excellent quick service and very good food as always – I come fairly regularly. The weak point of the meal was the coffee. It was watery and well below the standard I expect from a smart pub. There are plenty of people like me who enjoy a tasty cup of coffee and are used to the standard routinely set in France and other European countries. If a meal is rounded off with a quality cup of coffee that’s what the customer has last and will remember.
We waited around 45 minutes until we got our starters and staff didn’t apologise for the wait. We both had steak for main course which cost £28.50 each and felt very disappointed as the steak was fatty and appeared to be burnt on the outside. We weren’t asked how the food was until we had both finished each course. That being said, we enjoyed our starters and desserts but felt the food overall is very overpriced.
I found the Purus lager to be too warm. It was hardly chilled when poured and obviously got warmer. The dining room felt sterile but may be due to being almost empty. Service was excellent, not intrusive and not over the top.
Excellent food and service.
Lovely evening - thank you
We had such a wonderful evening celebrating my daughter’s 18th . I mentioned this months before when booking and you gave her a beautiful plate of chocolates decorated with happy birthday in chocolate- a lovely touch. I haven’t been for years and we had forgotten how amazing the food is - such different tastes and combinations and everything was delicious Great service - friendly and efficient Can’t wait to go back !
The Olive Branch is the best place to eat for miles around. I only wish the team would take over the White Horse at Empingham, which has recently closed its doors.
Warm welcome as usual, very comfortable surroundings, cosy and relaxing, food delicious and beautifully presented. We were supporting ‘Dine and Donate’ and were expecting a token sized meal for the exceptionally reduced price, but, NO it was business as usual, a beautiful plate of ‘deliciousness’ thank you as usual.
Faultless, Fantastic food and excellent menu Charming knowledgeable staff A quintessential English hostelry Ticks all the boxes and more Fairly priced Endless wine list at realistic prices Perfection, but this only comes from hard work and hands on control to ensure standards are maintained
Wow, I must have been hiding under a rock for 20 years... Loved it all.
Very good as usual
Lovely food, service and atmosphere as always. A very charming place which is a long- term favourite.
It's always a pleasure to dine at The Olive Branch and yesterday was no exception. Thank you for another pleasant experience for my wife and I on my birthday and for showing me how well champagne goes with fish and chips!
We dined off the early evening 'Dine and Donate ' menu. It was very good value. The fish and chips were very good but would have been improved by the addition of some form of peas or other vegetable. We've marked down the atmosphere because the temperature in the part of the dining area we were in was slightly chilly but not enough to complain about. Overall we were impressed on our first visit for many years.
