About The Olive Branch
The Good Pub Guide 2014 - Pub of the Year
Our entry in the 2014 Guide says: “The civilised Olive Branch prompts readers to superlatives: ‘service as good as it gets’; ‘sublime food’; ‘how have they managed to maintain such consistently high standards?’; ‘the ultimate pub experience’. It’s a first class all-rounder.”
as usual the standard of food was excellent, however we did notice a lack of choice on the al a carte menu , for the first time in all our visits. otherwise great
We had a lovely time celebrating our wedding anniversary. A really nice touch was the plate of chocolates with Happy Anniversary piped with chocolate around the plate. We will certainly be coming back.
First visit - live in St Ives, Cambs. A1 busy but easy 45 minute run so likely to return. Amid all the positives on the things that matter, the only negative was the napkins. Even allowing for the general rustic look they did not pass muster. Everything else did.
All was fine
Excellent Saturday lunch as usual.
We loved our evening at the Olive Branch and thought the waitress who served us was charming, friendly and smiley; she made our evening! Thank you.
The ambience was beautiful. The whole place is really nice. However the food portions were tiny. If i pay £22.50 for a main then i don't expect two tiny cubes of duck the size of a 50p coin and then 4 tiny potatoes the size of 1p pieces. But maybe my expectations of food portions are out of whack or something?
Good food, very pleasant function room with attentive service.
Lovely lunch, very pleasant break in our journey.
We had a lovely lunch. The food is consistently excellent food and the service impeccable in a relaxed and amiable environment. Always a treat.
Came here for my birthday on a Friday evening with the wife. We'd read and heard good reviews so had high expectations. We arrived and the atmosphere, ambience, decor and food smells had us very excited! I ordered the beef tartare to start and the wife had the whitebait. When it arrived, I was a little gobsmacked to see how little tartare was on the plate for £10!? There was 'just' enough whitebait to justify its £8 pricetag. Flavours of both were very nice...just not enough of it sadly! We hoped that the mains would be more filling! I ordered the duck breast and wife ordered the Scottish hake. Again, disappointed to see how little was on both plates versus their price; £25 for two bite size chunks of duck breast (thought I'd ordered a duck breast, not pieces of a duck breast?) and the wife's hake was not much bigger for £20. Nothing against the flavours and the cooking...just felt very short-changed for the amount of the food plated up, and this sadly put us off desert. Appreciate that it's fine dining but I don't expect to leave a restaurant, a "gastropub" still feeling hungry and expect more substance for my money. Such as shame, but we won't be returning in a hurry.
Thank you for such a lovely lunch on Thursday. Delicious food, lovely relaxed atmosphere, attentive staff without being over bearing. It was just perfect.
Loved the food, the drinks selection, the room at Beech House, everything about it! Little touches such as the wellie basket and "recovery station" were gorgeous. Breakfast was a little more frantic service wise than I would have expected given the impeccable service of our evening meal, but a delicious meal and we didn't need to eat again until tea time! Thank you for a great way to kick off my husband's 30th birthday celebrations.
Ben is super mein hoste. We need another Branch Uppingham / Lyddington would be great. T Brooks Donnelly
This was not our first visit at The Olive Branch and certainly will not be our last, as usual an amazing meal, we bought a friend for the first time visiting from Kent who was blown away, thank you again, excellent, superb x
Always a great experience
We made a last minute booking on a Monday lunchtime as it had been my husband’s birthday the day before (I had not mentioned this during the booking). The staff must have overheard our celebration as at the end of the meal they presented a plate of beautiful chocolates to David in recognition of his birthday.A lovely touch and proof of excellent service indeed.Thank you all again for a delicious lunch.
Eating at the Olive Branch is an all round good experience - great food, nice ambience and friendly prompt service.
Lovely relaxed atmosphere and great food. Quirkyness in every nook and cranny, a fab evening
Chicken liver cherry parfait. Standout dish Everything else, faultless We celebrated our 1st year wedding Anniversary at the Olive Branch. Almost as great a decision as getting married in the first place Our first visit but definitely not the last
Amazing food, lovely ambience and impeccable service!

Absolutely lovely lunch and will definitely be back. The team was super helpful and professional when we were booking a private event too. Thanks!
