About The Old Queens Head
Our Little Gem is a delightful country pub & restaurant that’s full of charm, character and plenty of friendly faces.
All are welcome in our bar area – even the beloved pooch! (Our doggy biscuit jar may be of interest to said pooch…)
We have a stylish but cosy, two level dining room, a relaxed and informal bar area with a roaring log fire for the chilly months – and our lovely garden and terrace overlooking the village church is the perfect spot for those warmer days when the sun comes out to play.
We had a wonderful dining experience July 2018 when visiting and were excited to return this July. We had high expectations and you exceeded our expectations! I listed allergies on the reservation and was so kindly greeted with a personalized menu printed with my name and the menu items I could safely select! I must say that no restaurant has ever done that!! You all are so friendly and genuinely interested with fun conversation and attentive service. Wow! Then the food.. picture perfect, tastes even better than it looks and the Pimms, truly memorable. We can’t imagine a trip to the UK without a visit to The Olde Queens head Pub in Penn!
Lovely location and beautiful interior. The food was nice but the menu was a little bit pretentious for my taste, I appreciated the experimentation however.
The meal was very good, really enjoyed my starter and main. Very nice bottle of Gavi too. Service deightful, will go back.
Everything we ordered was delicious, the taste and the presentation were first class. I would definately recommend the tomato tart tatin for a veggie option. It made a nice change from the usual veggie choices you get. And it was lovely!. Friendly staff too.
Nice lunch in the garden. Good service to start with but later on we were forgotten.
We celebrated our silver wedding anniversary at the OQH. The staff were very helpful and worked hard to look after our party and keep the food and drinks flowing x thank you very much! Neil & Angie xx
Really enjoyed our meal, only criticism was the gooseberry crumble tart as it was felt not enough of the fruit and the pastry was soggy, as though warmed in the microwave. Small plates were good value and a good size for ladies lunching .
Great afternoon. Food was amazing.
Compared with the meal we enjoyed at the OQH on Easter Monday the service was shocking. Staff did not appear interested unless they were chased, very disappointed and not sure that I would want to book again for a celebration
Great service all around.
Brought family for a birthday meal out. Had a lovely meal, with the chicken burgers being superb, although one disappointing meal was the bulgar wheat salad (for the birthday girl!) - she ordered it, but was told afterwards that quinoa would be taking the place of the bulgar wheat, and although this was in principle fine, there was mountains of quinoa, with very little dressing, and it was very bland, so my sister left lots. The menu specified it would have asparagus in it, and there was none. All in all, her meal was very disappointing.
Very welcoming. Lovely food and friendly staff.
Always excellent, but not the cheapest. So great now the new management have made the pub child friendly with a child menu.
Super evening, the pub was buzzing but the service was still spot on. Enjoyed our last meal of this menu and can’t wait to try the new dishes! See you soon Mo and the team. Cliff
You very kindly accommodated my dietary requirement with no fuss. Thank you.
We’re regulars and really enjoy our time at the old queens head Little feedback on the burgers. The burger was too well done. Would have been nice not as well done as it wasn’t as soft and tender as usual Thank you
Dear Mo & the team. Thank you for a super evening. We both had pork chops they were delicious, cooked just right so they were succulent. However the black pudding hash was an absolute triumph and should be served with every dish! Looking forward to the new menu and if you ever need an unofficial taster you know where to come. Cliff
Amazing service and great food! Made sorting the bill easy by letting us pay for drinks as we went. Pre order system great and perfect for large booking and also sorting bill at end of evening. Only negative was the cod meal. Couple ladies had to complain as very small for £17. You did bring a smaller version to add to each meal which was great but wonder if you’ll make that dish bigger as standard? Thanks for giving some tired mums a great evening will definitely book again
C'est le meilleur dans le village.....
The food was first class, enhanced by very good and attentive service. I will visit again when in the area, which unfortunately will not be often as I live in Putney, London.
Lovely staff and wonderful pub but the food was distinctly average and really very expensive. Having spent £91 for lunch (2 adults and 3 kids, with only 2 drinks) I don’t feel like this represents good value for money.
20 years ago my wife and I had our wedding reception at this pub and were well looked after. 20 years on we returned for to celebrate our anniversary and were pleased to see that the pub was in great shape thanks to Mo and the team. The food was faultless as we're the extra treats to make sure we enjoyed ourselves. From someone who is loathe to spend the time doing reviews like this, this is the exception that I am only too pleased to recommend this local pub. Well done Mo and team Mike and Angela
The meal for 3 people was £100 and admittedly included a bottle of wine but for lamb chops, fish pie and gammon and chips that was an expensive meal. The quality and service was great but too expensive and we will not be returning to eat.
Excellent Sunday roast, excellent wine, excellent service!
Thank you so much for a lovely evening we thoroughly enjoyed your company. The Dahl was very tasty and so were the fish and chips, the chips were to especially nice as they were light but nice and crispy. I wish to volunteer to be your menu taster and look forward to the new menu on 14th June. We will come back soon as I have yet to try the pork loin which sounds yummy.
