The Old House York is located down Low Petergate in York City Center. Our restaurant and bar really is the place to be for real ale, great food and historic surroundings.
With an unbeatable location in the heart of York and being one of the oldest, original buildings around, The Old House York really is a key place to visit… Come & join us for a light breakfast, a spot of lunch or an evening meal, choose from our new menu, packed full of locally sourced produce and freshly prepared dishes.
We sell 10 craft beers and cask ales with over 20 specialty spirits and artisan gins and a great selection of fine wines, spirits, craft and continental beers.
Part of Shoot The Bull group who also run the very popular restaurant, The Old House, Hull.
Thoroughly enjoyed our meal and the service was excellent. The young ladies who looked after us were very friendly and courteous and nothing was too much for them. We will definitely be back, if we are in York again.
Lovely meal, great service. Food was cooked to perfection and we had a really enjoyable evening. Please extend our thanks to all of the team.
This was our first time at your restaurant and my god we will be back! The food, the staff and the atmosphere were second to none! Your pork belly was beautiful. We had a lovely time and have already started recommending you. we will see you very soon with family members
My wife, son and I all chose steak - all three dishes where cooked to perfection, possibly one of the best steaks we’ve ever eaten. We will definitely be back.
Fabulous food and good service
Very disappointed with our visit I have emailed a complaint to head office I’m awaiting a reply
excellent place to eat and I am gf, very accomodating, excellent service, very friendly too
Nicely designed venue, great food. Staff friendly and helpful. Nice experience!
Lovely meal and excellent service
Not much atmosphere and you get hardly any sauce with your steak.
I had a lovely meal here during the EOTHO scheme. The staff were so friendly, couldn’t do enough for me! The cider was tasty, the food was absolutely heavenly (I had the burger & creme brûlée). The location is great right in the city centre, a great hidden gem!
Restricted menu was not amazing!
Great food, one of the best burgers I’ve ever had, and I’ve eaten a few! Staff were attentive and friendly, even speaking to the chef to alter a set menu to help out a fussy wife. Would definitely eat here again
We had a very pleasant and attentive server, who unfortunately could't manage the corkscrew and had to be assisted by someone at our table. Apart from the lovely old beams in the walls and ceilings, there is very litttle atsmsphere: lighting is bright, one rather garish painting on the wall, no curtains or floor covering, hard chairs. The food - ham hock to start, followed by chicken schnitzel - was good enough to finish up, but it lacked much flavour.
Very mean portion of fish and chips Not much atmosphere.
Food was excellent as was service
The food wasn’t very good, gnocchi was weird, it had a strange taste of stock cubes to it and very heavy - tbh it was probably the worst effort at gnocchi I’ve witnessed. Pork belly was good, steak was ok but for the price wasn’t, the meat was good but everything else was bad. The atmosphere was also very odd. In all I wouldn’t recommend the old house
Food was excellent! Thank you to Ben for your wonderful service! From the rather loud group who you had to serve a glass of milk to after the chicken wings x
Excellent food, friendly service.
Excellent food and service. Lovely relaxed atmosphere.
Both had steaks and they were delicious! Highly recommend, we will definitely be back 😊
Brilliant service, Staff were great and food was lovely
Lovely food and great service.
Enjoyed a delightful meal with my family. The quality of food and level of service provided was first class. Value was enhanced by being part of the Eat out to help out scheme.
