About The Old House A Pub By Shoot The Bull
The Old House is well renowned for great food & drink. The first pub operated by the award winning Shoot The Bull.
Located in the bustling old town district of Hull down the historical Scale Lane, being Hull’s oldest domestic building it’s the place for exciting food, over 20 gins, 40 craft beers and great surrounding. A pub well worth a visit.
Lovely atmosphere and superb friendly service. Will definitely return in the near future
Fantastic Sunday lunch service. Food was sensational and well paced.
We had a lovely lunch with girlfriend's..food was lovely as always..service was grwat too. Always happy to help .
Great location, terrific atmosphere, very friendly staff and the finest of food. The steaks were the best we have ever tasted, cooked to perfection with an impressive choice of great wines. We enjoyed dinner so much we returned for lunch the next day.
roast beef was excellent Shipyard Ale was very good service upstairs was a little inattentive at times but always with a smile
Lovely meal for father’s Day. Nice atmosphere and food delicious. Drinks expensive but that’s the norm nowadays. The waitresses were warm and attentive. Would’ve liked to stay longer but parking was only for 2 hours in Hull which is such a shame.
Enjoyed our evening, excellent food and service
The food was excellent, and so was the service. The menu is varied, and every dish we had was beautifully presented, as well as delicious.
Very friendly staff who did everything they could to make a success of a large group dinner. I would certainly take a group of up to 20 to the Old House again.
Brought clients to Shoot the Bull on Thursday evening after a recommendation by a friend. Have to say that, in the main, the food lived up to expectations, the service was disappointing. The food took an exceptionally long time to arrive and I'm sorry to say that the service was not particularly attentive. One of my colleagues had ordered mash with her meal (truffle mash) but was not told until the food arrived that it was not available. We were left to feel that we were a bit of an inconvenience...
Really lovely food. Beautifully presented and tasted delicious. Excellent wine menu too!
The Menu is excellent and offered a wide varied choice. We went for Sunday Lunch and had the best Roast ever! Even the Vegetarian I was with was very happy. The bar service was very laid back but they had a bit of a crowd at the bar so we forgive them for forgetting our wine.
We booked a table for 8 people and I have to say I was really disappointed with the service. The food was amazing and the building was beautiful, but all let down by the impolite, moody and unhelpful member of staff who served us. I was hoping this was going to be a regular place to eat but I will think twice before booking unfortunatly.
Excellent food and friendly efficient staff
Gorgeous food, beautiful presentation, quaint atmosphere, nice staff, good service. What more do you want
It was an outstanding meal.
Food was excellent, in particular the scotch eggs were deemed to be the best people had ever eaten, fish (halibut with mussels) and the wagyu steaks were also exceptional. We were tempted by a number of the sides and all were great, even managed desserts which, again, were delicious. Service was great, our waitress was knowledgable, friendly and helpful and the food and drink was served up quickly. Would definitely recommend a visit and intend to return next time we are in Hull.
Amazing food. Great for a treat - will be back to try the rest of the menu
It would be useful to highlight where nuts are present in dishes. I am allergic to some nuts if i eat them, turned out that there was nuts in the duck egg asparagus starter. we were a table of 9 and you didn't have enough cups to serve us all tea/coffee?? Food was good - enjoyed it as usual.
Most of the group I was with enjoyed their food, though one did feel disappointed that the beef in the pie was minced rather than diced (that was about as negative a comment as I heard, so nothing too major!). I went for the partridge risotto starter which was very enjoyable, particularly as the meat was not overly dry as can be the case with game (though I'm unsure how the dish could be marketed as 'locally shot' in April, unless previously frozen). The ribeye steak I ordered as a main was very good, and I felt justified the price tag. The pork belly dish also attracted glowing praise from others. Service was not disastrous by any means though at the same time did not inspire confidence. One of the waiting staff did not appear particularly familiar with the menu, and also asked questions which they should have already known the answers to given that - as a larger group - we had ordered our food beforehand. Would also have been good to have been offered water for the table, rather than having to ask for this. I had been left feeling somewhat apprehensive about the booking owing to difficulties in obtaining a response from the restaurant beforehand - on two occasions I emailed them (as they had asked) and did not receive a reply, having to then phone them to obtain a response. As it happened this did not pose any issues, however it also did not suggest that staff were particularly attentive. Finally, whilst I appreciate that the building's historic nature (which is part of its charm) restricts what can and cannot be done, it was disappointing that our group (14 guests) was split over two tables, rather than accommodated on the same table.
Delicious and filling food in a lovely setting, with friendly service. The handmade gnocchi with smoked beetroot and charcoal cheese was out of this world! If you're looking for a great meal out that's decent quality then look no further than shoot the bull in the old town. They've also got a stall in the Trinity Market where we had the pleasure of sampling the burgers which was super tasty also! Can't fault these guys, keep up the good work :) Look forward to a return visit the next time we're up in Hull.
Lovely restaurant surroundings. Food was delicious with a varied menu available Staff were excellent & very friendly This was our 2nd visit and thoroughly enjoyed both evenings out
Very good meal with friendly service
