About The Old Fleece
Sitting half way between Stroud and Nailsworth, this 250 year-old former coaching inn, built in the heyday of the Stroud wool industry, oozes rustic character and charm. The Old Fleece has a very relaxed and homely atmosphere and is run by a team of staff who are friendly, attentive and efficient. Enjoy the lively atmosphere of the popular terrace during the summer months and snuggle up next to our roaring fire when the nights draw in.
The service was impeccable. I don't think I've ever been to a restaurant where the staff are so attentive, friendly, on the ball and responsive to my partner's nut allergy. We felt so welcome and valued. I went to The Ivy in London recently and they could do with a training session at The Old Fleece. The food was great as well. Really tasty and very nicely presented. All in all we were extremely impressed and if we lived closer we'd be back each week.
Ollie and his team are always very hospitable, we had a lovely evening at the Fleece with friends and the food was very good.
Wonderful staff, very welcoming especially to our children who were made to feel most welcome and entertained.
Great food and excellent friendly service. Good choice of food for Gluten Free diners.
The food was exceptional and all the staff so friendly. A lovely environment.
Always a friendly smile on our arrival and this time was for our granddaughter's 18th which both she and the rest of us enjoyed immensely. Thank you Ollie and team.
Such a lovely pub and delicious food. Staff very friendly and helpful also. Will most certainly be returning.
A great experience, lovely staff, thank you
Check that there aren’t any large parties booked in the restaurant as this can get very noisy if you want to chat with your guests! However; the food is delicious and presented beautifully. Will definitely go again.
Food is excellent and so is the service. Its becoming a regular for dinning out.
Great atmosphere, good service and proper food. All good!
Always get a warm welcome from the team. Food is always good and wide range of drinks. Sunday Roast is highly recommended. Worth booking a table.
We were greeted very well, seated and given a menu which was poorly presented, A4 piece of stained paper. The choices were good and eventually the order was taken, after a considerable wait we asked for bread which we were told would take 20 mins. The bread didn’t come eventually the starters did. They were delicious. After another long wait the mains came. Again delicious. I felt the place was dirty, there was food in the table grooves and thick greasy dust in the panels on the wall. The £8 glass of white wine was served at room temperature. Food good, long wait needs a deep clean.
A great place, we have been going here for years and will keep on returning. The Gammon steak I had on Saturday was superb as was the missus sea trout.
Service was very slow. Had to ask several times for our order. Twice we were asked at the table if we wanted something, we said yes and ordered a drink and in another occasion a dessert but no one came back, we waited quite a while then had to ask the waitress and she said it had been forgotten.
Lovely evening with friends, could have done with some English cheese on the cheeseboard
Service is really lacking, it was so poor that we wouldn't return. A shouty loud and forgetful waiter made for a unpleasant experience.
Despite receiving two emails (and this one) confirming my online table booking there was no record of it when we arrived. Fortunately we were still comfortably accommodated by cheerful staff and enjoyed a delightful meal. There is however something needing attention in your table booking system.
First time we'd be to the Old Fleece for a few years. Made me wonder why. Service was excellent, food high quality, value pretty reasonable. Wife & I had brought 2 French friends who know their wines. They were impressed too, with a minor reservation that the Sancerre wine chosen should have been colder I am severely/profoundly deaf so had requested a corner table to keep the noise around me to a minimum. That worked quite well, but the current fashion for bare, hard surfaces makes life hard for deaf/hard of hearing people because of the resonance. Soft furnishings, wall hangings and various other simple measures can help. All in all, a good night. We will be back
Very nice Fathers Day meal, good sized portions, nice fish sharing platter for starters, great choice of gins
Excellent Sunday roast (inc vegetarian) and child friendly meal. We were made to feel very welcome as was our dog.
From the friendly welcome, the service and food continued in the same vein. The staff were attentive without being overly so, and the food was excellent. We were a group of eight celebrating an 80th birthday, and ordered a variety of mains, which all arrived together and without any problems. We were given plenty of time for the meal, and were never pressured or rushed. All in all, it was a very enjoyable evening which the staff and food went a long way toward. There were no complaints from anyone from our group, and we would have no hesitation in a return visit.
Great attentive service. Super tasty food and good drink selection. Will be back.
