About The Old Fleece
Sitting half way between Stroud and Nailsworth, this 250 year-old former coaching inn, built in the heyday of the Stroud wool industry, oozes rustic character and charm. The Old Fleece has a very relaxed and homely atmosphere and is run by a team of staff who are friendly, attentive and efficient. Enjoy the lively atmosphere of the popular terrace during the summer months and snuggle up next to our roaring fire when the nights draw in.
Friendly, helpful staff. Lovely food.
Firstly, the food was excellent. However, the service was very slow and our desserts were forgotten. The staff did do all they could to rectify the issue when they realised what had happened and removed the cost of the desserts from the bill. Once the desserts finally came, they were very good.
Lovely to be in a pub with no music! Delicious food and great views, friendly and efficient service
The only point I would make was we didn’t get a chance sit grab a drink at the bar first and we do like to just chill for ten minutes first but otherwise great as per our past visits Thank you
The staff are friendly & welcoming but the service was slow. All of our main courses (once we got them !) were good as were two out of three desserts, but the treacle tart was inedible !
We had six in our party,,,, we had six clean plates,, Well done ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
Fish pie was very disappointing as was the pork loin - goats cheese starter & soup was very nice. They forgot to serve our drinks & blame was given to another colleague without much of an apology.Asked for the bill twice & only when we got up to leave & went to ask again at the bar did we actually manage to pay ! - tempted to just walk out - also need to order more balloon type gin glasses as they had run out too!
Lovely welcome and excellent service. Warm and friendly place, nice atmosphere and good food.
Excellent food, excellent service and lovely, relaxing atmosphere.
Superb roasts. Sometimes a little slow on service when busy but who cares?
Valentines night, cosy relaxing night, staff very polite and nothing to much trouble, always returning, thanks everyone.
Thank you for a lovely evening, we could not fault anything, food, service, drinks even our table by the fire was perfect. I will definitely be recommending The Old Fleece to friends and colleagues.
With our son training with Gloucester cc around the corner, a fantastic way to spend two hours. Food and ambience was superb!!
Lovely pub with amazing food!
Such a lovely staff team and even sorted me out with chicken for my Sunday Roast when it wasn't offered on the menu (as I didn't eat any of the other meats.) Will look forward to many Sunday Lunches at The Old Fleece.
Love that you can book table on line. Lovely atmospheric pub, always have had delicious food ; staff always friendly & helpful . Definately recommend .
Fantastic food in a lovely atmosphere, very helpful staff.
We had a 3 course vlunch on New Years Eve. The shared stater fish platter was superb. The main course from the chalk board ( Beef and Lamb was very good. Unfortunately and unusually I did not eat all my desert, I had treacle tart and it was stodgy and didn’t have much taste, it was a shame as I really enjoyed everything else. I told the barman but his response was just I’m sorry, could have been a bit more responsive. The Still cider was superb and I would recommend to anyone who wants a strong still cider. Don’t get me wrong a very good experience.
My starter, the game terrine was wrapped in bacon and this was not stated on the menu. I can not eat pork :(. Apart from this little malentendu, the food was terrific and we had a great night.
Sadly quite disappointed with our recent visit despite having heard great things about the Old Fleece. Reduced menu explained due to snow affecting delivery (understandable) and manager (?) was helpful with my dietary requirements. However, the service was incredibly slow, even after most tables had left. When we arrived it was quite busy but it's a small restaurant and there appeared to be a desperate shortage of staff. We waited 45min for our order to be taken and when we tried ordering at the bar were asked to take our seats and told someone would come over - this took a further 15 minutes. Goats cheese salad starter was disappointing - looked like the lettuce and celery had be lying around for a few days. Spinach, red pepper and mushroom risotto had no spinach though this wasn't mentioned upon ordering. Not once was a check back done so none of this could be fed back at the time. Very very average risotto and simply tasted like it had been cooked in stock with some veg thrown over the top. Chips almost black but raw in the middle. Waiting staff walked past us for 20min before we stood up and asked to order dessert. Charged for a beer we didn't have. Overall a pretty costly and bland evening. Some background music would have been great. Unlikely to return.
Had a lovely Christmas dinner - great food, generous portions and good service, although the “meet and greet” could have been better when we first arrived, felt like we were standing about with no welcome and we asked about the Buck’s Fizz instead of being offered it. But a minor detail, as the service over dinner was very good. Sometimes you think you could have had a better dinner at home.....but not this year, as the food was excellent!! Thank you to all who made our day so enjoyable.
Excellent all round, tasty hot food. I feel that maybe the service charge was a little high. Would have no problem in recommending you.
Wine & coffee a bit on the steep side!
