I can honestly say that was one of the best roasts weve ever had. I had the lamb and my partner had the beef and both were cooked to perfection, meat vegetables and all..a lovely jus too..
Christmas lunch so pricey, but not as pricey as some and so good value. Friendly and efficient service, not stuffy but relaxed , so just the right balance for the occasion. Food very good - moist Turkey, firm veg and crispy roast potatoes - and very generous. Wine reasonably priced too. Will return
Excellent food and service. I will book again.
Great food in a nice relaxed environment. Lovely roaring fire in the bar area, perfect on a cold evening. Would definitely recommend visiting the Olde Bell.
Our room 4 was very cold, a bit soulless with blank walls and no plug point by a mirror for me to do my hair. Was a bit disappointed.
We were forgotten about all the time unless we ourselves made the effort to get any attention. Drinks were missed. The burgers were tough. The Eton Mess was mainly cream, which was a bit sickly.
We enjoyed our Sunday lunch but having visited many nice pubs in the area the Sunday meals here were the most expensive and although good are no better than elsewhere charging say £15/16 a dish. Also the kids meal with mac cheese balls was a strange combination and very unhealthy for children.
staff at the barbeque area were very good. Food OK but nothing a home cook could not do, so disappointing. lovely garden.
Summer kitchen food is not as great as it once was however regular menu is always good xx great surroundings great venue great staff
Came to celebrate our anniversary having had our wedding reception at the Olde Bell some years ago. Summer kitchen advertised to open at 12 opened an hour late - leaving us waiting with hungry kids. Had a drink (ordering at the bar with one bar tender and a line as a result) and left. Was not the special meal we had hoped to enjoy.
Very poor.terrible waitress service.food ok.very disappointed.20 year anniversary spoilt.
I think the staff were overwhelmed. The bar had a very limited range of wines, ran out of cold bottles of wine and also ran out of beer glasses. The tables in the garden had a lot of these glasses, one of the senior staff should have got a bit more of a grip. Wifi in ron 2 was poor and the venetian blinds had not been cleaned in a long while.
Hi, Your establishment was in a state of chaos when we arrived and didn’t improve much from there. The food was really average and despite your staffs’ best efforts they were too busy to provide good service. Our table wasn’t ready on arrival so we went to sit outside instead of in the restaurant. Then, to get what we wanted to eat and drink required us to order from 2 separate locations which is not logical and fails to provide a seamless ordering experience. It was way more difficult than it needed to be. We stayed with you a few years ago and really enjoyed the experience. Unfortunately the quality of the establishment has taken a serious dip.
We felt that the standard lunch menu was very limited, I know you have the garden kitchen but the standard menu only featured 3 or so dishes, we struggled to find anything we wanted to eat. Service was impeccable and the garden is stunning.
Lovely atmosphere and delicious food. Garden was great for the children to play. Staff were very accommodating. Thank you!
We used to love your pub but had such a bad experience last time that we left it a year before returning. Unfortunately we had a terrible experience yet again this time. I rang before we came to check if you were doing the bbq in the garden but no-one answered the phone and no-one called me back. I then booked a table online. There was a wedding on when we arrived and your staff seemed extremely stressed. They rushed our order then we waited OVER AN HOUR for our food. When it came it was disappointing - my fish was in a thick creamy sauce that I couldn't eat it was so rich. When we complained to the staff they told us they were agency staff and were only there for the day. They told us the food took so long because the kitchen couldn't cope. All in all it was an extremely disappointing experience. Such a shame - it used to be so good and we love the pub itself & the garden.
Fantástico. Ideal para ir con niños.
What a disappointing evening - dreadful service, overcooked food, zero atmosphere and we waited an incredibly long time for our food. Overall, a terrible experience.
So please let me set the scene I had booked a table for my wedding anniversary. I was asked to confirm my booking 3 days before which I did. When we arrived, there were no tables made, there were no other diners and one member of staff working. He told us that there was a 'limited menu' because they were short staffed. They weren't short staffed, they had a wedding on and didn't bother to tell us. They were in fact so busy with the wedding that they had clearly no intention of honouring our reservation. The 'limited menu' consisted of sandwiches and paninis. Remember, I had told them it was our wedding anniversary. They knew they had a wedding function on, so surely you would assume that they would have the decency to let prebooked customers know about it. Instead there were no tables prepared, no service, no food, truley appalling. I have never experienced anything like this and this place should be absolutely ashamed of themselves, disgusting way to treat customers.
Terrible service from start to finish - lukewarm white wine/Prosecco; confusion over whether there was bar or table service outside, totally empty dining room on a Saturday night, no good lighting outdoors once it started to get dark (despite beautiful and expansive garden, orders forgotten about, had to request table to be wiped, asked at the end of the evening for service charge to be removed from the bill - and no questions were asked about that; why or what could have been done better. This is a beautiful old pub in the hands of someone/people who just don’t care - as evidenced by a totally empty dining room on a Saturday night.
I ordered afternoon tea for my wife's birthday. We were offered to go outside as it was such a nice day. The food was very well presented and was excellent. The pub is very pleasant and set in a lovely garden - there is also ample parking space available. Hurley is a pretty village and we went down to the river to watch the boats go by near the lock
The Sunday menu was deeply disappointing, having enjoyed your weekday menu on a previous visit. The roast was small and poorly cooked. The service was slow, and although I had called ahead to inform staff that this occasion was to celebrate my mother’s 83rd birthday, she was kept waiting for her drinks and no mention was made of her celebration. Overall, I was very disappointed with the experience.
Service was incredibly slow. It took over 20 minutes to get a menu and food was slow to come. The menu was very limited despite being a weekend
Our waiter, Jesus, a young Spanish chap was lovely, he looked after us exceptionally well. Unfortunately the same cannot be said of our arrival. We stood at the entrance to the restaurant and reception and were completely ignored by two members of staff. One on reception and the other gentleman in the bar had seen us but chose not to acknowledge us. It wasn’t until one of the chefs walked past us and enquired if we were being looked after, he then asked the gentleman in the bar if he could look after us, finally he approached us. We purchased a bottle of wine and a jug of soda water, in one of the glasses was a slice of lemon, I dread to think how long it had been there but it was brown!! So after hearing of the past reputation of The Old Bell we were disappointed to say the least. The food however was delicious.
The hotel itself is very nice and beautifully situated. However my visit was spoiled by a very poor dining experience, food was poor and the service we were given was slovenly and surely. I would not recommend eating at this establishment which is a great shame as it otherwise has a lot going for it.
