Nice interior settings, service very good, food good, quite quiet when we went so not a lot of atmosphere but at least not noisy!! Would book again in the future.
Having been back to the Old Crown since it has changed hands, was very impressed with the interior décor and changes made, and the food, staff and ambiance was good. A very relaxing Sunday afternoon was had by all guests.
Great food and service. Very quiet for a Saturday night. We would have liked a slightly more extensive wine menu.
Excellent meal from the main menu Saturday lunchtime. All dishes had a good balance of flavours and beautifully presented. Service excellent. Will definitely be back.
your venue, food and service was, as always, exceptional.- we will be back again soon
Many thanks to Paul and his team for the buffet lunch provided to our family on Wednesday 2nd May. Good choices, good quantity and quality in a very pleasant atmosphere on a cloudy day. Attentive but not intrusive staff. Would happily recommend the Old Crown for a family event and hope to eat there in the future.
A good meal. Fairly quiet, but it was Monday lunchtime. Prices were at the top end of reasonable.
Great Lunch, very friendly and helpful service all our needs catered for, the décor is outstanding...well done.
I really want this to succeed as the old regime was so very salad bar, doilies, and icing sugar, but it needs a level of warmth in all things. The waitresses have all been good and engaging, the managers are the ones who need most work. Please, you can do much better, and will need to as there are many as good and better. Would we travel to go back again, at the moment the answer is possibly no, come on we need you to be better in Girton please!!!
The menu is intriguing and varied, the food was exciting, interesting, beautifully presented and a fascinating taste experience. Truffle popcorn made an unusual strt to our meal.I was more than happy with my wild garlic Kiev but when I saw the lamb belly served to my friend, wished I'd had that! The petits fours were beautifyul and impressive, especially the handmade chocolates, though I personally would have preferred some small home-baked biscuits with them rather than apricot pastilles. My one moan, and it's a real one, was the price of the coffee - at £3.50 it was more then the petits fours, and it was a single cup, making it, I believe, the most expensive cup of coffee in the Cambridge area (even the Felix does a large cafetiere and a plate of six full sized home-baked biscuits for two for £7). Other than that, no complaints, and the service was exactly right - unobtrusive, understated, practical and friendly. Thank you.
Our local pub/restaurant has become an expensive venue and not matching service. A high priced menu, smaller portions and despite efforts service is not matching. Meaning from regularly to maybe occasionally visit. Surprisingly quiet on Mothers day.... We consider going to other nearby village venues for a casual bite, and for pricy/good/service ones into town. A shame
Very friendly always feel welcome beautiful venue great food well done
Sadly, the menu was very limited, portions small and quite expensive for a lunch out. The food was of good quality. There was no atmosphere as there were only 2 other people in the restaurant, of course the service was good, there was no one else to wait on. I will take it off my list of regular eating places.
A huge improvement after refurb and the food was great. I suspect the decor might not be what many of the ‘senior diners’ are use to but I really liked it. A little more expensive but the whole experience was much better so worth it.
Prices have gone up substantially under the new management and the place was pretty empty when I went - it seems a bit over done for a village pub. The menu misses pub favourites like steak frites and fish & chips. The beer is well kept (esp. the Speckled Hen) but the whisky very expensive. Hopefully they'll tweak the menu and prices to suit local tastes.
Atmosphere lacking. Manager no warmth or personality. Menu limited and overpriced. Food tasted good so a great shame about everything else. Won't bother coming again!
Lovely new interior to the pub, the food was fantastic. Service was pretty good although could have been slighly more attentive at times, we waited quite a long tme to order for example. The prices are pretty high but I think it is justifed because the food was excellent.
Excellent service, very friendly. Not very busy so no atmosphere. Good excellent but very expensive but suppose that Cambridge prices.
The food was very good but the ‘whole plaice’ was actually a fillet. Everything was on average 15 percent overpriced compared to other good local restaurants. The menu choice was also fairly limited even with the bistro menu. We were disappointed as we would like to use The Old Crown on a regular basis.
We had lovely meal and drinks with excellent service. Very much like the way the Old Crown has been refurbished and will be going back very soon. Would recommend a visit.
Good food but very disappointed in the limited menu. Only choice of three starters, three main meals and three deserts. We really like this pub but the limited menu will unfortunately make us think twice before using again. Real shame...
Decor really lovely. Food was okay but pricey for what it was. Other menus were disappointing, especially the a la carte. Sunday roast not a patch on previous owners. Such a shame.
Food was really nice, service was great. Overall we had an enjoyable evening.
Beautiful decor with lots of attention to detail but.... I really missed the family friendly, budget friendly, gorgeous menu from before the refurb. The new menu looks lovely but is much more expensive and has far less variety. We also waited for a long time to be served, then our dinner arrived before our drinks. We had to ask for drinks again. Sorry, but I missed the old experience that we were always guaranteed. ☹️
