Good food, friendly welcome
It was a bit like Fawlty towers !! Initially we were very disappointed and felt like walking out !! By the end of the evening we were in hysterics as so much had gone wrong it was unbelievable but an expensive way to have a laugh !!. catalogue of disasters were : Not ale on draught ( empty pumps) The smallest of all bottle coke . So much off the menu not because of popularity because they had not got it ! The only proper veggie dish being one of them ( we had a vegetarian with us ) No bread on offer to accompany our meagre starter. Told they had no Pinot grigio when we had already had a glass. All mains arrived at different times . Waited 10 minutes for vinegar as the vegan could not eat her fish and chips without lots of vinegar ! Only deserts available were carrot cake , cheese and biscuits and ice cream. We opted for chocolate ice cream only to be told 15 minutes later they hadn't got any . Opted for cherry ICE CREAM . after many minutes it arrived with no explanation. Started eating it . Guess what it was sorbet. When informed the waiter said he knew but hoped we didn't notice !!. Too cold to eat..Lovely Coffee was served bit no extra touch of mints ! Sorry but cannot recommend this place. We tipped the 2 waiters as we felt so sorry for them. It was not there fault and they were having to do everything including assisting in the kitchen which we could see from our table.
The Place is done out beautifully but the service was appalling and they weren’t even busy, in fact it was dead. no Diet Coke and all other fizzy drinks were from a bottle from the local shop. waited 40 minutes for deserts in the end we said forget it and asked for the bill. Such a shame
The pub is beautifully decorated, however the meal was substandard and the service was nearly nonexistent. We were there for Sunday roast, which was decent but not worth the cost. We also ordered a crumble for dessert that was served with custard. I'm not sure how the custard was prepared, but somehow it had curdled and it was still served to us. I've never sent food back before, but this was actually inedible. It's a shame because this place used to be very good! Sadly I won't be returning.
Excellent food at very reasonable price.
We had booked a small funeral buffet. It was just what we'd hoped for. Thank you
Went with a friend for lunch last Friday. Although quite quiet we really enjoyed our visit. The service was excellent, good mix of informative, attentive and friendly. We had the tapas which was very good and desserts yummy. I love love love the decor of this place and it feels such a treat without having to go in to the centre of Cambridge. We went to The Ivy in Cambridge recently also and it was an equivalent experience.
We recently celebrated our sons christening and went to the Old Crown afterwards for a light buffet and drinks with family and friends. The service was impeccable and the atmosphere just right. The food was delicious and catered for all ages including the children in the party. Our guests all commented how lovely it was and we will definitely be visiting again soon. Thank you
We have never been here before and after one visit have established you as one of our go-to places. Absolutely flawless service, not because we were waited on hand and foot but because the style, knowledge, level of contact and conversation was spot on. Food fabulous too. Keep it up
Delicious food with excellent presentation. Gentlemen’s afternoon - a good amount to keep someone full! Inside decor is impressive and comfortable. Toilets clean and tidy. Plenty of parking.
It was a wonderful fathers day lunch for Dad and Grandad. Grandad was not sure about going, as he had not been since the refurbishment, however he was won over and very impressed. I am sure you will see him again!
Most restaurants fail as far as Sunday roasts are concerned, you did not. It was the best Sunday roast ever in a restaurant Everything was perfect, I congratulate you. Will see you soon to try other meals.
Our waitress was great. She kindly spoke to the manager and as we weren't really wanting much Prosecco with the Bottomless Brunch they switched it for orange juice, which was very kind of her. She was friendly and chatty too.
I really like the new look of the pub, we visited on Bank Holiday Monday for lunch. I thoroughly enjoyed a beetroot salad to start, fish and chips for main and the best lemon meringue pie I have EVER had for pudding! I also enjoyed a cocktail in the lovely garden and we shared a bottle of wine with lunch. They also serve Aspal cider and Peroni both favourites of ours. The dining room is a bit dark even on a sunny day so we chose to eat in the bar area which bright and light. I would highly recommend The Old Crown and really hope they succeed, it was formally very popular with a more mature crowd but I’m not sure the marketing team have made a new customer base fully aware of how lovely it is and how excellent the food is. It’s great to have a pub within walking distance for us but they do have a large car park for those coming from further afield.
Excellent Sunday roast with a difference. Thankyou
Nice interior settings, service very good, food good, quite quiet when we went so not a lot of atmosphere but at least not noisy!! Would book again in the future.
Having been back to the Old Crown since it has changed hands, was very impressed with the interior décor and changes made, and the food, staff and ambiance was good. A very relaxing Sunday afternoon was had by all guests.
Great food and service. Very quiet for a Saturday night. We would have liked a slightly more extensive wine menu.
Excellent meal from the main menu Saturday lunchtime. All dishes had a good balance of flavours and beautifully presented. Service excellent. Will definitely be back.
your venue, food and service was, as always, exceptional.- we will be back again soon
Many thanks to Paul and his team for the buffet lunch provided to our family on Wednesday 2nd May. Good choices, good quantity and quality in a very pleasant atmosphere on a cloudy day. Attentive but not intrusive staff. Would happily recommend the Old Crown for a family event and hope to eat there in the future.
A good meal. Fairly quiet, but it was Monday lunchtime. Prices were at the top end of reasonable.
Great Lunch, very friendly and helpful service all our needs catered for, the décor is outstanding...well done.
I really want this to succeed as the old regime was so very salad bar, doilies, and icing sugar, but it needs a level of warmth in all things. The waitresses have all been good and engaging, the managers are the ones who need most work. Please, you can do much better, and will need to as there are many as good and better. Would we travel to go back again, at the moment the answer is possibly no, come on we need you to be better in Girton please!!!
The menu is intriguing and varied, the food was exciting, interesting, beautifully presented and a fascinating taste experience. Truffle popcorn made an unusual strt to our meal.I was more than happy with my wild garlic Kiev but when I saw the lamb belly served to my friend, wished I'd had that! The petits fours were beautifyul and impressive, especially the handmade chocolates, though I personally would have preferred some small home-baked biscuits with them rather than apricot pastilles. My one moan, and it's a real one, was the price of the coffee - at £3.50 it was more then the petits fours, and it was a single cup, making it, I believe, the most expensive cup of coffee in the Cambridge area (even the Felix does a large cafetiere and a plate of six full sized home-baked biscuits for two for £7). Other than that, no complaints, and the service was exactly right - unobtrusive, understated, practical and friendly. Thank you.
