About The Old Cannon Brewery
Our kitchen has a great reputation for serving food that’s the ‘bounty of the county’ all of which has been freshly prepared by our highly experienced kitchen team.
Our brasserie menu, Cannon Fodder changes with the seasons and has starters and main dishes for all tastes and appetites. For those with a smaller appetite, many of the most popular main courses are offered as a light main too.
Some of our dishes are made with our own ales: beer battered fish and our famous Gunner’s Daughter sausages!
For busy business types looking for a quick option at lunchtimes, we offer bar snacks including home baked rolls with mouth watering fillings.
There’s always a choice for vegetarians and, as all the food is prepared from scratch, we can usually adapt dishes for special dietary requirements too.
After enjoying your lunch or dinner you are still ready for more food, our home made puddings or British cheeseboard are definitely worth saving space for. If puddings are not your thing, then our fabulous range of locally produced Ices are a must. The Manor Farm Creamery in Thurston is where we source a fantastic range of Ices from Criterion Ices. And then there’s the deliciously flavoursome Alder Tree fruit cream ices – all hand made on a local fruit farm in Needham Market.
Our Specials above the fireplace change frequently, so there’s always something to suit your taste buds!
Food, drink and service were excellent. The brewery was very quiet which although peaceful was a bit flat. It was a Monday lunchtime so I expect it will be much more lively during the week. Many thanks
The bathroom was very dirty and when mentioned in the morning to staff was told they are aware- but clearly did nothing to rectify our annoyance and obviously didn’t clean it prior to us arriving! Over priced!!!
Really tasty good pub grub with own micro brewery The staff were all really helpful and friendly with organising a special table for my brother-in-law’s birthday My disabled son and toddler were made to feel very welcome Thank you for a lovely lunch
Lovely staff and good food thank you
Absolutely perfect! Food was delicious. Service impeccable. Staff were friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. A great experience. Highly recommended.
Lovely food and good service! Would defiantly come back.
Very enjoyable evening, wil definitely be returning
Very friendly and helpful staff. Got a couple of cushions for one of our group who had a bad back and also supplied us with some playing cards. We were also allowed to taste the beers before buying. All in all, excellent service.
We had a thoroughly enjoyable time and the waitress was so accommodating as we were with elderly parents who weren't able to rush anything. Thank you.
Good beer, complimentary bottle in room very nice touch
Great food and service
Lovely food and very friendly staff.
Lovely meals, lots of choice for vegetarians, and great service.
Great beer brewed by the company. Food was very good and service excellent
It’s a great pub with a great atmosphere. The food is to a good standard and the portion sizes are good, not too small. The Sunday lunch is by far a highlight on the menu. We usually dine at the Angel and this roast is on a par with that! So.... improvements? It really needs a kids menu, the lighter bites are good but a little pricey for smaller tums. These days even pubs attract families and I think this would really aid attracting larger groups... if that’s what you want of course?! We were a group of 8 and felt very welcome! On a totally selfish point of view, it wouldn’t harm having a ‘old cannon beef burger’ on the menu. My eldest son (who ate 3 courses btw) always orders this and although he had the sausages (waitress was sooo accommodating and offered chips and beans 👌) which he liked, I think this would be a winner, adding in one of the home brewed ales in the ingredients would make this differentiated to other local competitors. We will be back.... and mum and dad loved it!! Great place guys and the hubby got a four pint pot (don’t think this is the correct name for it) 👍
The beer is always good here. Food is fine and service is friendly and efficient. My only issue is that the adundance of hard surfaces in the room make it very noisy and not at all cosy.
Fab place, great choice, brill staff!
Thanks Craig for being so understanding when a number of people cancelled at the last minute. Really nice friendly staff and great food.
Excellent food everyone was very friendly and efficient
We booked the Old Cannon for a work night out, bringing two offices together for a couple of drinks and something to eat. The team at Old Cannon were great and we felt very well looked after. Our food was pre-ordered and arrived without fuss or complication, and was really good quality, even though they had to get 24 meals out simultaneously. We stayed for a few hours after dinner and enjoyed the good quality beer. Nice place, and would definitely recommend it to others, whether in a large or small group - thank for a great evening.
Excellent friendly service, lovely food. Would be happy to return.
Food was ok but service was dreadful.
Excellent lunch for a group of 15 of us from Maldon, Essex. Everyone praised the quality of ales and food served. Service was slick and friendly. Would definitely visit again. Chris Harvey - Chairman, Maldon & Dengie CAMRA
No price on the desserts menu was an oversight. Service was good and accommodated change in booking numbers.
