About The Northey Arms
This pub has been transformed into one of Bath’s most popular venues at which to eat, drink and stay. It’s ideal for families and now boasts an extensive children’s play area and large garden space.
Once a hotel backing onto Box Staion, this grand building is steeped in history having been frequented in the past by the likes of English Playright, Noel Coward.
The Northey is ideal for those train lovers as it sits close to one of Isambard Kingdom Brunels’ masterpieces, Box Tunnel and is also very popular with walking groups enjoying the beautiful Bath suburbs.
Having received Michelin and AA recognition, quality and consistency is the focus in the kitchen, where every ingredient is sourced through exhaustive research of our local suppliers. Our daily changing specials boards focus on the freshest fish from Cornish Shores and runs alongside our main and bar snacks menus. We stock a great range of ciders, lagers and real ales and present a carefully chosen wine list to complement
Great lunch on a rainy day! Well done for being so creative with your outdoor eating tents. We all had a really lovely long lunch with excellent food.
I would say that the service here has gone down hill, which is a shame as we have been coming to this pub for many many years! We had to wait a considerable time to even order drinks. Ordering food was a nightmare the staff just were not attentive at all! We were not made aware that we were not allowed to order desserts and that they were closing early, our children were sat there just waiting. ~No communication form staff, I had to ask for the bill which I had to chase. I think the staff were more interested in chatting rather than customer service here! Overall disappointed.....
A great eating experience in your own heated pod. Excellent service and wonderful menu
We enjoyed the experience of being in the heated pods and the food was tasty. Staff were friendly
The tent system is really enchanting. It will be sad if it vanishes completely. The staff weren't imposing but we're always available. Had a lovely evening thank you
Great unch outside under the cover of tents and lovely food.
We had a lovely Sunday lunch and the outside area is so cosy - highly recommend.
We had an amazing family meal in the secret garden. It was toasty warm, beautiful setting with the fairy lights & flowers. With space we could chat & laugh in our own little room. The service and food was fantastic and we will certainly be back.
It would have been nice to have known that we only had the table until 8pm
Excellent Covid arrangements. Well thought out and lovely atmosphere
Food was lovely, staff were pleasant and accommodating. They need to offer custard alongside the sticky toffee pudding (wink!). Would recommend (and have done!) this place to everyone. It’s great and the outside pods are just beautiful!
Good food and friendly service.
The concept of the secret garden is a lovely idea regardless of the pandemic restrictions, the tents had everything you needed and the heater a much welcome addition, I think these would be popular all year round especially when normality returns and you can provide blankets, cushions more comfortable seating. The service was very friendly however drinks took quite a while to come out initially. Then after our starter it was incredibly rushed with wanting to clear away etc whilst people were still eating, we had table booked for 2 hours but with half an hour to go felt like they wanted us gone (Not sure if it was booked behind us). Just need to get the balance of not coming over too often to let customers relax but on the other hand not let them think they've been forgotten about. Food was very good, cooked well and very filling, although serving a reduced menu which is understandable for current situation. Probably slightly higher price point then I'd pay for a regular meal out but for a special occasion worth it, one option is to take the price of the tent off people's bill as that's what lots of other places are doing so you don't risk a no show by charging but then it's a deposit type payment for customer.
Celebrated our anniversary in the secret garden and it was perfect. Lovely setting and food was fantastic. We have only had Sunday lunch in the past which is has always been amazing. Looking to visiting soon!
Disappointed. Considering there was a reduced menu (which is understandable currently) and obviously reduced covers you still managed to run out of the chicken dish, which was not mentioned on arrival and 4 out of our party of 6 had chosen it. Overpriced, mediocre food and service. Won’t be rushing back.
Thank you for an amazing meal we all really enjoyed it and will be back again soon
Friendly service, but have been there twice in two weeks and both times, although the Secret Garden wasn't very busy, the service was really slow. The only area you could improve as otherwise it's fantastic - well done for getting such a great set up and running!
Fantastic service. Lovely food. Beautiful garden setting. Would recommend.
Unfortunate that we had been sat at our table for half an hour before we were served with our drinks. The food was nice when it came.
felt rather unwelcome, drinks were lovely but only stayed for one after the pretty rude service we recieved
We ate Sunday lunch on May 2nd. We booked one of their individual pods, which was lovely and very nicely decorated. No question the food is excellent but I hate it when you are limited to 2 roast potatoes and a dribble of gravy and are forced to wait for the waiting staff to return for a check back to ask for more. The roasted parsnip looked like it hadn’t seen the oven and the portion of cauliflower/broccoli bake for £3 was very small. Like I said at the start the food is excellent but we had an hour wait for our starters to be cleared and our mains to arrive. We were told they had taken too many bookings and we’d clearly been forgotten. All and all, not the best Sunday lunch experience. We were given 2 free glasses of wine but seeing our bill for 5 was £220 I’m not sure we received value for money. Kinda ruined what should’ve been a lovely meal out our first one since lockdown eased.
Booked for my dad’s 80th. Great 2 hours in the ‘secret garden’. Food great - can recommend the chicken. Only down side was the service being on the slow side as they were busy - great to see it back to life :)
Staffs very friendly & approachable.
Th Northey Arms have done a fantastic job of creating a private outdoor area. The food was excellent as always.
