About The Ninth
The Ninth is the latest project by London-based chef Jun Tanaka. Set in the heart of London’s buzzy Fitzrovia neighbourhood, the contemporary, yet warm and inviting 90-seater restaurant offers up simple but refined French Mediterranean-style dishes, all made for sharing.
The a la carte menu – available at lunch and dinner – focuses on the finest seasonal produce and vibrant, honest flavours. Specialties include house-cured meats and fish, robust French classics with Jun’s signature fresh twist, and lovingly thought-out vegetable dishes that are more than just ‘sides’.
Absolutely perfect. Thanks.
The cuisine at The Ninth is outstanding - the flavours, presentation, produce quality are excellent for the price point. The most exquisite tarte tatin I have ever had finished what was an overall enjoyable lunch. Unfortunately the service does require further finessing. It took over 10 minutes for our drinks order to be taken, which isn't something I'd expect from a small restaurant. The food arrived at comfortable pace, but the waiter was insistent of reaching over guests' plates when delivering further courses. We had to prompt for further drinks / desserts etc. Whilst not dreadful, it did impact on our overall experience - hearing the wait staff argue in the bar towards the end of our service wasn't comfortable either - nor was the back chat (and lack of apology) from a member of staff when I recommended they give tickets out when coats, after he had given me the wrong coat... Would I return? The food certainly. For the service, unlikely.
I loved it here! My friend & I thought the food was delicious! My only bug-bear was that the dinner plates were not warm, so the food got too cold too quickly. Otherwise fab food, service & atmosphere. Will visit again!
It was great evening however I had been led to believe we were in the private dining area
One of the best meals I’ve had in London!
The best food I have had in years, in a nice relaxed atmosphere.
Good quality food as expected. Beetroot tarte tartin was delicious. Personally disappointed with the halibut for the price, lacked flavour for me. Staff were attentive and helpful. Would come back.
Highly recommended for casual but still sophisticated business dinners!
Excellent service, great menu and delicious! Chose to sit at the bar - staff were great and interactive. Super friendly atmosphere. Had a great experience, would definitely visit again.
Really enjoyed this place and would recommend. Food and service both very good, my only criticism would be that it can feel a little quiet in the restaurant. But that should not put anyone off.
Truly wonderful food and loved the sharing plates concept. Found the restaurant very cosy and the noise level very moderate. Service was for the most part attentive and our waitress was charming. A small complaint would be that when we arrived we told the waitress we would be ordering 3 plates and asked if we could order after each "course" We were assured this was acceptable and there was no mention of kitchen closing times. However when we wanted to order our third plate we were told the kitchen was closed. Just a reminder from the waitress that the kitchen was closing would have been appreciated as we did book a late lunch starting at 2p.m. and were disappointed we did not get to enjoy more delicious food. But that just means we will have to return and do it all again.
Delicious food! Friendly and efficient service
Food was great!
Fantastic food, beautifully presented. Scallops, black truffle pasta, even the side of leeks - all sensational.
Relaxed atmosphere, enjoyed haring plates. Enjoyed all the dishes -even simple sounding salads were delicious. Service was excellent and good humoured-will certainly return.
Cracking lunch as always. Service was outstanding.
Geat food and reasonable price
Amazing. Such good food, superb VfM. Service is not at the same level as many restaurants with this kind of food, but I personally think that's ok. Service is warm and friendly, rather than slick. One other thing, for this kind of place the beer and cider list is really weak.
We thoroughly enjoyed our evening - delicious meal, good wine list, great cocktails.
Wonderful food and the staff never made us feel anything but welcome even though we were the last to leave after a long lunch.
Lunch at The Ninth did not disappoint - everything from the food, the service and the friendly relaxed atmosphere made our visit very special . Thank you Jun and team for looking after us ! We had a magic time ! We’ll be back and have continued to recommend The Ninth as London’s hidden gem !
We thoroughly enjoyed lunch at The Ninth, including our 8 year old daughter, it was a pleasure watching her try your dishes. The pain perdu dessert was absolutely delicious. Perhaps a petit fours with our tea would have been a nice touch.
Excellent dinner and service. We had a wonderful meal. Thank you!
We found the service quite bad, people were quite busy (maybe they need more waiting staff), unfriendly and unattentive most times. Front of staff also not very friendly.
