About The Ninth
The Ninth is the latest project by London-based chef Jun Tanaka. Set in the heart of London’s buzzy Fitzrovia neighbourhood, the contemporary, yet warm and inviting 90-seater restaurant offers up simple but refined French Mediterranean-style dishes, all made for sharing.
The a la carte menu – available at lunch and dinner – focuses on the finest seasonal produce and vibrant, honest flavours. Specialties include house-cured meats and fish, robust French classics with Jun’s signature fresh twist, and lovingly thought-out vegetable dishes that are more than just ‘sides’.
We had an excellent lunch from the set menu. The waiter was very helpful in pointing out things I might want to avoid on the menu (owing to me being pregnant and pregnancy dietary restrictions). Food was excellent as was the service.
One of the best places I know to eat. Always delicious. Impeccable service
amazing atmosphere and tasty food, esp the dessert!
Generally good flavours apart from the burrata which had a very bitter leaf in it which really wasn’t needed and spoilt the taste of the dish. Truffle pasta and langoustine ravioli were both good but overpriced for what they are. Relatively simple ingredients embellished with one expensive ingredient.
Amazing food and service. Mains and wine are quite pricey.
The Ninth was really terrific - as we have come to expect. Wonderful staff, exquisite food and attentive, considerate service - can not recommend highly enough - a truly outstanding establishment
Great veggie tapas!
Everything beyond expectations, especially staff, friendly, helpful but never obtrusive.
I can't fault the food at The Ninth, every course provided our party with talking points, every note well-balanced and some really interesting ingredients to sample as part of the tasting menu. However, the service was quite frankly non-existent, despite checking for any allergies at the start of the evening, the waiting team then made no effort whatsoever to explain the overall concept of dining at The Ninth, every time the wine was poured it was also poured all over the table with a near red wine disaster to which no apologies were made. I bumped into a friend at the restaurant who also expressed wine was being poured on guests at their table too. I was also met with quite a rude response when merely asking how the portions were to be shared as they varied amounts for each course, sometimes 5 plates to share between 9 and sometimes 3, there was also no offer to filet the sea bream and no wine pairing recommendations made. Despite the appalling service level for a Michelin starred restaurant, our party still had a lovely evening thanks to great food and great company. Not sure I would recommend The Ninth until I could be reassured of a better level of service, especially considering we were one of just a few tables dining on a quiet Tuesday evening in January.
Hi Sophie, Thank you for taking the time to review your recent visit at The Ninth. We were glad to read that you enjoyed the food but reading your feedback on the level of service was disappointing. We always try to provide professional and efficient service but unfortunately, we did not deliver this time. I sincerely hope that you will dine with us again as I am confident that we can provide an excellent experience. Best regards, Piotr Maruszczak Restaurant Manager
Our favourite restaurant in London
Great place for an intimate dinner or chat. Wouldn't really place it in 'Value for Money' category though, specially given the portion sizes.
Outstanding food. Excellent service. Would highly recommend.
Food was patchy. Wine list poor
Second visit and as enjoyable as the first. Cannot fault.
I've been to The Ninth a few times now and last night was to treat my sister who was visiting. Unfortunately I left really disappointed. Nothing was "bad" per se, just really un-extraordinary. I felt like I got the same dish multiple times - salad with hazelnuts on top - so the impact was bland and uninspiring. The food tasted nice - but ordering 3 different things on the menu because you're encouraged to share only to have them all come out tasting way too similar was below expectations. The scallops literally tasted of nothing and I felt absolutely robbed for what I paid for them (if I can even say them - probably was just one scallop in really thin slices). Unfortunately I won't be back and sadly looked like a nutcase having told my sister this was my favourite restaurant in London. The service and atmosphere were good.
Lots to like here. We had four plates to share. The winter salad was outstanding. The mackerel was very good as was the pasta. The crispy partridge, whilst perfectly good, didn't have a one star Michelin feel. Wine was excellent, service great and so nice that they don't play ghastly loud music. We will go again and have the a la carte.
Fantastic evening, relaxed but buzzy atmosphere. Amazing food, will be coming back soon.
The food was lovely but I think it is over priced.
We had a such an amazing experience at The Ninth! The food was fantastic, we could have stayed all night!
Great quality menu and food, Great quality service, Great value.for money. Well worth the Michelin Star it holds..
This was the first time I had been to your restaurant and my colleague and I were taking out clients. We were all very impressed - the food was delicious and the setting and atmosphere was fantastic for a Tuesday night. I am doing vegan January and the food I was provided with as an alternative to the set menu was just fantastic. All our clients really enjoyed the whole experience. We will be back again.,
The food is very good and up to my expectation.
Visit planned as we had always loved Pearl! Not disappointed and hope the venture has a a great success. Look forward to returning soon.
Everything from the service to the food and drink was brilliant 👌 the best looking dish off the night was the Mackerel starter, as a particular highlight, and the staff that, tended to us, are a credit to the industry. I will be back soon
