About The Ninth
The Ninth is the latest project by London-based chef Jun Tanaka. Set in the heart of London’s buzzy Fitzrovia neighbourhood, the contemporary, yet warm and inviting 90-seater restaurant offers up simple but refined French Mediterranean-style dishes, all made for sharing.
The a la carte menu – available at lunch and dinner – focuses on the finest seasonal produce and vibrant, honest flavours. Specialties include house-cured meats and fish, robust French classics with Jun’s signature fresh twist, and lovingly thought-out vegetable dishes that are more than just ‘sides’.
My partner & I visited for lunch on a Friday. The set lunch menu offers good value - 3 dishes are plenty for 2 people to share for main. The food was nice, but on our visit we were right at the end of service and all the main dishes came out cold. The waiter did take the price of these dishes off our bill, but despite this kind gesture I am sorry to say I would not go back or recommend The Ninth. Service was a bit all over the place - either overly attentive or completely uninterested. One of the waiters also lacked any real training & plonked dishes down on the table very heavily, learnt right across you to clear the table etc. Even if service had been better and the food had been served hot, I still think this place lacks that special something and doesn't give you a reason to go back. Food is nice, but simple rustic french food. Nothing out of the ordinary, the atmosphere is quite dull and there are so many other options in the area offering similar food with more of a buzz and/or better service, I don't feel like this is somewhere I would recommend or ever go back to.
Everything was brilliant! It was not a reasonable place for me, but i would return for special occations!
2nd time I’ve eaten here, last time sat downstairs which had a better atmosphere. However, great food & service, set meal excellent value. Tart Tatin ridiculously large! 😀 Really enjoyed our meal.
Fantastic food with a relaxed atmosphere. We had a wonderful evening at The Ninth. We´ll be back upon our next visit to London - for sure.
Fabulous food. Incredible, in fact. Exceptionally good service, friendly and knowledgable. A really wonderful experience.
Had a really lovely evening. Hassan looked after us very well. Food very good as usual. The house Chardonnay is lovely and creamy and sensibly priced.
It is the 4 th time we come it is always top and Some of our friends are also where with you
Excellent food, attentive service, busy but nice atmosphere -all in all a great evening out
Food was really delicious. We had a nice evening sitting at the bar & service was great too! Next time when we are in Londen we come back!
Delicious food, will definitely go back
Sour dough bread wa a meal by it’s own, veal pasta : pasta Not even al dente. Having only three desserts of which one of them is cheese why only offer one too expensive port In general overprised for the quality of food, level of the service was very poor. Bad advise, no knowledge of wines, en not friendly enough fot the prive of the food.
Wow - wonderful experience all around!! We can’t wait to return!
Ate with a friend at this amazing restaurant. I had the scallops pumpkin risotto for main which was fabulous. Everything that we tried was utterly amazing. Lovely staff without being intrusive and not rushed at all. I have eaten in a couple of Michelin starred restaurants before but The Ninth has to be my favorite!
very good weekday set lunch
Lovely atmosphere and great service & food
Food was excellent, especially the pheasant dish. Great cocktails and good selection of wines by the glass.
Really great evening, with delicious food and very good wine. Wanted to try the famous croquettes but they must have not been seasonal for now - very good beef cheek dish and also the chargrilled sea bream, both were highlights. Great ambience and nothing too stuffy - from design to service - which we loved. Save room for that pain perdu..!
Back ground noise a problem when restaurant was full. the hake was outstanding and pheasant flavours amazing .The cote du Rhone at £40 pricey but super wine .Service worth the 121/2 % but I don't like being bullied !
Wonderful food extremely good service. Second time we have been. Will be back next year.
another amazing meal at the fabulous Ninth! The food is spectacular, we especially loved the fish and the vegetarian dishes, and the Ninth cocktail - all so beautifully created and presented. Staff also very welcoming and a warm and intimate atmosphere.
It was a simply stunning meal. Original, packed with surprising flavours but totally unpretentious. Delicious. Moorish.
Fantastic cooking and service in a lovely setting! We had a selection of dishes, all of which were packed full of flavour. There wasn't a dud dish on the menu. All in all a great lunch with lovely service that didn't break the bank. The lunch set menu is really amazing value for money I have recommended it to all my friends and will be returning. Thank you
