About The Mill at Ulverston
The Mill at Ulverston has been designed and set up to offer the very best available food and drink in the Furness area.
Our Chef's Brigade is a talented collection of experienced individuals from across South Cumbria. Our Head Chef is Mr Nigel Bullock. Nigel is a protege of our food consultant, Mr Steven Doherty, the renown Master Chef with an extraordinary collection of local, national and international food awards. Nigel worked for Steven for a number of years, rising to become his Head Chef. Nigel joined The Mill in 2017 and has carefully built up an excellent team around him, developing his own style of food using the very latest cooking techniques and a wide spectrum of local food providers, the food aims to surprise, delight and satisfy his diners.
We believe our food is the best in the area and is in keeping with our unbeatable real ale, whisky, wine and spirits selection.
Leading the front of house is Ms Michelle Wood. Michelle built up many years experience working as Restaurant Supervisor and later Restaurant Manager at the AA Rosette standard Abbey House Hotel.
Our first floor restaurant is located above the historic water wheel in what was originally the “milling room.” The restaurant celebrates the charm and character of the mill building, with original millstones and milling paraphernalia still in place in the centre of the room. The room’s original exposed stone walls and features are complemented by design touches, to create the perfect venue for a relaxed meal with family, friends and colleagues or when dining out on a special occasion.
Seating up to 40 diners in total, our restaurant can comfortably sit tables from two to over 20 people. The air conditioned room is filled with natural light; the perfect place to enjoy our delicious menus and our carefully chosen wine list.
We also offer more casual dining options in our ground floor Snug, which is located at the rear of the building.
We are able to cater for a wide variety of functions. From small family "get-togethers" to large Christenings, Anniversaries, Birthday Parties, Business Events or Weddings. We have a number of different rooms in the venue, ranging from our cocktail bar (The Loft) which can accommodate up to 70 people, to our Restaurant (40) or Terrace Bar (50-60). The Mill is a large and flexible venue and capable of putting together simple or complex events. We offer a number of buffet options, large wine menu, cocktail options and music choices. We can also offer sit down meals for up to 70 people.
Almost all our functions are bespoke and built around people's specific requirements.
Loved it, gorgeous food, great service and m really nice venue. We will be back x
Food generally was very good, tasty and great value for money, only minor observation with the roast potatoes looked and tasted and as if they had been reheated (cooked twice). Would definitely visit again if we are in the area.
Lovely friendly staff. Delicious food served promptly. All for a fare price. Will certainly be back x
I booked using the online booking system which was fantastic! There was 4 of us out for a meal, drinks and a long overdue catch up - we chose the Mill and it did not disappoint! The food was lovely, the service was very attentive and we all thoroughly enjoyed it - we stayed on downstairs for a few drinks after before moving on as there was a good selection of real ales (the men like a good pint) and there was a great atmosphere. We won't hesitate to recommend and will be back again soon
One of the desserts was not as described which was disappointing but otherwise the service was friendly and efficient and we had a lovely meal Thank you
thank you very much for your lovely review, i am so glad that you ahd an enjoyable evening. i am sorry that one of the desserts was not as described, we love reading our customers reviews and try to ensure that every comment is taken on board.
Was very disappointed to only have the choice of a set lunch menu. This wasn't made clear when I booked. We have 3 children and there were no starters available for them. The waitresses were not very welcoming. All that being said though, the food was amazing.
Sunday lunch menu is fantastic value for money. Food is absolutely lovely, great portions and a bargain at 16 pound for 3 courses. Service a little slow but food makes it well worth the wait!
thank you for your lovely review Ellen, we hope to see you for sunday lunch again soon. Regards, Michelle General Manager
Very disappointed with our night. We booked in Sept for the party night to be told when we got there that this wasn't what we had booked!! Even though my invoice clearly said Xmas party and price £18. We were put in a very quiet part with no atmosphere at all
Thank you for your feedback, please see the response sent direct to your email, please contact me if you would like to discuss further. Kind Regards, Michelle
Excellent service, good food and great range of beers.
had a do here in May/June time. the buffet was amazing and well catered for so we decided to come back for our Christmas do. This was meant to cater for 38 people however, there was not enough food to have even catered for half the amount of people which was slightly disappointing.
We had a lovely time - thank you x
Delicious food and attentive service, even though it was busy. Couldn’t have asked for more!
Lovely meal with excellent service on a busy Saturday night, would recommend.
Food was excellent, service was great and we have no complaints. I’ve only marked down the atmosphere based on two males coming into the snug (one was a little worse for wear for 1230) and the language was not acceptable when we were there for food in the afternoon with children and although I appreciate the lady dealt with it and it did get quieter I don’t believe that he should of really been even given food when we were there to relax and enjoy our meal. Apart from this though everything was excellent we shall return x
Cozy pub with great food
We had a lovely time thank you. Will be returning again. Only comment would be that the food took a little long to come out. Some people had already walked away from the buffet when food was still arriving.
Cosy place, very friendly staff and classic food with a twist. We enjoyed our stay very much.
I had my 60th birthday lunch at the Mill. There were 25 of us and I have to say the whole experience was excellent from beginning to end. Michelle and her team helped us put a menu together and the food and service were faultless. Everyone commented on how great it was - and I had the best birthday! Thank you for making it so special. Gill
Absolutely delicious meal with wonderful service. The lovely staff brought out a cake and set a balloon out for our friends birthday. Absolutely fabulous.
Great attention to detail. very helpful.
Party of 18 for the Gold Buffett- lovely variety of food and good service throughout the night.
Great family meal, food was first class
We visit here often and always enjoy the food and service. Just one comment on this visit the waitress brought the food befor anyone has brought any cutlery etc so then we had to sit and wait with our food in front of us whilst she went and got cutlery and condiments etc. She did apologise and say someone should have done it! Otherwise another good visit.
We had a fairly enjoyable evening here but where we were seated felt like a bit of a corridor. The staff were very friendly.
Excellent service and very accommodating
