About The Mill at Ulverston
The Mill at Ulverston has been designed and set up to offer the very best available food and drink in the Furness area.
Our Chef's Brigade is a talented collection of experienced individuals from across South Cumbria. Our Head Chef is Mr Nigel Bullock. Nigel is a protege of our food consultant, Mr Steven Doherty, the renown Master Chef with an extraordinary collection of local, national and international food awards. Nigel worked for Steven for a number of years, rising to become his Head Chef. Nigel joined The Mill in 2017 and has carefully built up an excellent team around him, developing his own style of food using the very latest cooking techniques and a wide spectrum of local food providers, the food aims to surprise, delight and satisfy his diners.
We believe our food is the best in the area and is in keeping with our unbeatable real ale, whisky, wine and spirits selection.
Leading the front of house is Ms Michelle Wood. Michelle built up many years experience working as Restaurant Supervisor and later Restaurant Manager at the AA Rosette standard Abbey House Hotel.
Our first floor restaurant is located above the historic water wheel in what was originally the “milling room.” The restaurant celebrates the charm and character of the mill building, with original millstones and milling paraphernalia still in place in the centre of the room. The room’s original exposed stone walls and features are complemented by design touches, to create the perfect venue for a relaxed meal with family, friends and colleagues or when dining out on a special occasion.
Seating up to 40 diners in total, our restaurant can comfortably sit tables from two to over 20 people. The air conditioned room is filled with natural light; the perfect place to enjoy our delicious menus and our carefully chosen wine list.
We also offer more casual dining options in our ground floor Snug, which is located at the rear of the building.
We are able to cater for a wide variety of functions. From small family "get-togethers" to large Christenings, Anniversaries, Birthday Parties, Business Events or Weddings. We have a number of different rooms in the venue, ranging from our cocktail bar (The Loft) which can accommodate up to 70 people, to our Restaurant (40) or Terrace Bar (50-60). The Mill is a large and flexible venue and capable of putting together simple or complex events. We offer a number of buffet options, large wine menu, cocktail options and music choices. We can also offer sit down meals for up to 70 people.
Almost all our functions are bespoke and built around people's specific requirements.
Excellent venue for our party - food and bar service both fantastic - thank you very much :)
Overall the food was good. Unfortunately some other items were not, veg especially the sprouts were very under cooked, steak dish very oily, cheese board very disappointing no variety of crackers of any type just oats cakes, grapes definitely past there sell by date & the tomato in the chutney had not been chopped was just in 1 lump, I love a cheese board but didn’t even finish the cheese as the rest was awful to be honest. Sticky toffee pudding was just a sponge cake no sign of any dates in it.
lovely food, ace portions. definitely recommend, just a little quiet on a Thursday afternoon.
We had a beautiful lunch from the winter menu. The food was well cooked, well presented and very tasty. Great service from the two staff members and our dog was welcome, a real bonus. Prices are a little higher than I normally pay for a lunchtime menu, but the meal was delicious. The only issue, could have done with a steak knife for the flat iron steak simply because it was in a bowl making it harder to cut with a regular knife ( not because it was tough!)
lovely meal, very pleasant staff,.We will be defiantly back next time we are in Ulvertson
Lovely staff, lovely food. My husband said he thought it was marge not butter served with his bread but that was just a tiny gripe of his! And the ice-cream needed a wafer or just a little touch to finish it off. Other than those constructive criticisms - would highly recommend.
Food was lovely, prompt and friendly service.
Good food and great service always, and the beers not bad either.
Lovely food and atmosphere
Ate in the snug, warm and cosy, great food and service. Along with great choice of draft beer.
Lovely place and food. Service was great. Nothing was to much trouble. Nice menu and food was really tasty. Will be back next time we are in ulverston.
Food amazing & good value for money, will definitely be back
Lovely food with lovely smiley helpful staff
We enjoyed an evening meal at the Mill, the service and meal were good. It was unfortunate that although we were in the ‘snug’ we were next to a party of about 10 which spoilt the cosy atmosphere.
Many thanks for looking after our Sunday lunch party of 17. The food and service were both excellent with arrangements made by Michelle also perfect.
Lovely food. Fabulous service and child friendly too. 👍
Very good food, fish and chips was very tasty, steak cooked to perfection. We were there early evening so very quiet and lacked atmosphere. Friendly, quick service at that time. Definitely go again 😀
Fabulous food and service :D
Excellent meal, will definatly be returning next time we are in Ulverston
Very enjoyable meal with room for delicious puddings
