About The Malt Shovel
The Malt Shovel, at Barston is a delightful village
pub set in the picturesque Solihull countryside.
Great night out with friend. Fabulous food.
Great evening lovely food
Disappointed. We are regular vistors and this was not up your usual standard. Thai curry was very small portion. Calves liver had tough pieces in it. Rum baba was a dry cake with fruit and ice cream when normaly they are soaked with liquor. Fish cakes unimpressive.
An excellent evening with lovely food, a few drinks and good company to celebrate a birthday. Overall superb.
Lovely location, great food. Staff coped well despite being busy.
Could do with some more trending iPA's A small point but excellent service and food was first class
really attentive, helpful & accommodating. Lovely experience, thank you so much
Friendly but efficient service. Lovely atmosphere, we felt v relaxed and the food! Wow. Really enjoyed our evening and will definitely be back.
A fabulous evening spent with the family celebrating our 30th Wedding Anniversary. Thank you to the staff who were super attentive all evening. The food was sublime and a good range of drinks were available. We would certainly recommend The Malt Shovel.
Really enjoyable meal. Service was excellent. Couldn’t fault anything
Lovely experience . Attentive staff and great food
Friendly welcome on arrival and during the meal. The mackerel was perfect with the crispy skin, and the mediterranean vegetables with the wild trout were just right on a hot day. Thank you
Another lovely meal at the Malt Shovel. I had the roast beef and my wife the roast pork, both were excellent and the usual excellent service. Can’t fault it!
Warm and friendly welcome, service food and attention excellent, lovely gardens to eat and relax in, the weather did help!
Recommended by Sawdays... what a find! Will definitely be back !!
A lovely setting on a warm afternoon. A pleasant change for a business lunch.
The food was fabulous and the service warm and friendly
Thank you all we had a an excellent time and will definitely be back xxx
Always a good meal, service is friendly and efficient.
We visited with two friends for dinner. I have to say on this occasion we were rather disappointed. The starters were adequate but my husband ordered the turbot as a main. When it came he said it was a small triangle not much larger than 3" which contained a lot of bones and was more like a wing rather than a steak certainly not worth £20. My baked cod was good but only 2 stalks of asparagus and a few saute potatoes.I am a Coeliac and also lactose intolerant so I couldn't have the full complement of the meal but I would have thought a bit more imagination could have gone into to it with a few more veg perhaps. We didn't think the presentation was as good as we've had before. The desserts were very nice however. The staff are always very pleasant, helpful and efficient. We have eaten at the Malt Shovel on many occasions but were not very satisfied with the main meals this time around. We do hope that this is .just a one off.
We had a lovely evening with friends and although I’ve been before our friends hadn’t. The choices available for food and drink are exceptional but on arrival I couldn’t help but feel the bar tender was a little bit irritated by the fact that I didn’t know what Gin I would like and what tonic, (so much choice these days!) He rolled them off his tongue like I should know what they were! No smile! However the service from the restaurant and the young lady that served us was lovely.... thank you for a lovely evening.
Everything about the evening was excellent just disappointed with the turbot, lacked tast and volume.
Such a great evening couldn't fault it. From a warm welcome to friendly efficient staff and an excellent choice of food, delicious and beautifully presented.
Booked a table for 5 for a birthday celebration..Fantastic food, service and atmosphere. This is the 5th time I have eaten at the Malt Shovel and it always comes up 5 stars. Highly recommended.
