About The London Carriage Works
The London Carriage Works is a multi award winning restaurant serving modern British dishes complemented by the use of local, fresh and seasonal produce.
The London Carriage Works acquired its name when during external renovation works the original company name became apparent in the stonework. The company was a coach and carriage builders and built around 1866 in a pervading fashion of the day, the Venetian palazzo.
The restaurant is sister to hope street hotel and is open to the public seven days a week, from breakfast to nightcaps, with lunch, afternoon tea, supper, dinner and cocktails in-between. In house we also cater for many varied events from wedding suppers to meetings and corporate dining.
Afternoon Tea is served daily 3-5pm
Terrific meal with personable, warm and friendly service. Plus, if you're visiting from the likes of London or another similar city, the quality they deliver for the price is fantastic.
We were a little disappointed with our evening meal. The food was okay, but did not live up to the reviews we had read. I think some of your serving staff need a little more training in basic etiquette- such as not leaning across to get cutlery. The room was nice and we loved the crisp cotton bed linen!
I would have liked to have seen more vegetarian choices on the menu.
Thankyou to ALL staff in the London Carriageworks last night ....as always the meal and service exceeded our expectations what a fabulous evening we had with you yet again, relaxed and yet classy atmosphere with I can't end this without mentioning Mr Kenyon and his wonderful team....chef your food is outstanding thank you. (Especially the sea bass, halibut, salt marsh lamb and your amazing rhubarb dessert.) !!
Excellent new waiter young lad very attentive
.Always a treat to dine at the London Carriageworks. Many thanks.
Absolutely delightful lunch. Would recommend to anyone.
Served by an unenthused woman. Booked for afternoon tea with bubbly, as a surprise for a friends birthday. Had to ask for this to be brought out even though it was pre booked, it would have been left. Food was fine overall, the scones were lovely. The cakes on top were good. It was just the service left something to be desired! I have been before for the same thing and it was an absolutely lovely experience this time was different.
Very pleasant atmosphere, food was delicious and staff friendly and efficient.
Excellent thank you
The food was nice, but our wine only made it out after we had finished our starter, and after we asked for it. Normally, I like to drink my wine with my starter, not after it. Bobby
The afternoon tea was delicious. The scones were warm and larger than usual with plenty of jam and cream. There were lots of cakes which we loved. One of the best afternoon teas we have ever eaten.
What a disappointing Mothers Day lunch, service was slow because there was not enough staff on, our waiter was lovely but in addition to our table of 10 he had many other tables to attend to. Main meal was cold as we waited that long for the accompanying dishes, we took my mum there as she goes frequently but we left feeling disappointed. More staff would have alleviated this issue, poor management by the Carriage Works. We didn't see a manager throughout the afternoon to speak to. I live overseas and was visiting for the weekend, will not return, despite my mums best efforts in assuring me this was unusual.
Wonderful food & staff, made our few days at Hope St hotel very special indeed. Was the icing on the cake, no need to venture out of hotel for food, it was superb
Delicious food however the main was warm and not hot.
great food, Pleasant engaged staff.
The bacon jam was out of this world! And the member of our party who had the halibut said it was one of the nicest fish dishes he’d ever had - praise indeed. The atmosphere was lovely, service was efficient and friendly, and the whole experience was nicely paced and delicious. Would definitely come back!
Menu too wordy and difficult to understand. Using words people don’t understand does not impress. One of our party of six ordered a dish which said she would get vegetables. She thought they had been missed off and asked the waiter. He pointed out that what we all thought was the tiniest piece of garness was the vegetables. Good food simply described would be preferable.
I was expecting the wow experience and it definitely wasn't. Price of food -v- dining experience felt like an absolute laughable rip off. I have eaten in many many places and don't mind at all paying for good food and exceptional service but this definitely was neither. On arrival we said we had booked for dinner, then were asked if we had just come for drinks...it wasn't pointed out the need to order separate veg sides...why? My main of halibut was just about warm. We left just slightly less hungry than when we arrived. Very unfortunate having just had an excellent afternoon concert experience at the Phil.
The staff were very flexible. accommodating my mother-in-law’s restricted dietary preferences. The restaurant was very quiet (I think we were the only guests) so the atmosphere suffered for that.
All staff very friendly
Smart bar and restaurant , decent food but bit overpriced - toilets weren’t the cleanest
Food was nice but would have expected a bit better for the money. Service was quite slow at first
Both myself and my wife had stomach pains 3hours after our meal. The lamb was almost raw
