About The London Carriage Works
The London Carriage Works is a multi award winning restaurant serving modern British dishes complemented by the use of local, fresh and seasonal produce.
The London Carriage Works acquired its name when during external renovation works the original company name became apparent in the stonework. The company was a coach and carriage builders and built around 1866 in a pervading fashion of the day, the Venetian palazzo.
The restaurant is sister to hope street hotel and is open to the public seven days a week, from breakfast to nightcaps, with lunch, afternoon tea, supper, dinner and cocktails in-between. In house we also cater for many varied events from wedding suppers to meetings and corporate dining.
Afternoon Tea is served daily 3-5pm
A beautiful setting, my friends and I were all very impressed. Will come again. Thank you.
Beautifully cooked starter and main course, rapid service.
Food was really really good
Food was excellent but unfortunately you were clearly understaffed & as a result service suffered. We waited half an hour to be seated despite booking in advance. Then there were delays with taking our order; we were given a menu that wasn’t on for the Sunday evening; delays with clearing our mains & taking our dessert order. Johnathan (manager) was clearly working hard - his staff were on go slow & didn’t support him sufficiently. Tables that had left before we arrived were still uncleared when we left - this doesn’t give a good impression. The cost would have been value IF the service had been up to scratch, as it was it was a bit disappointing.
The food is excellent: the best in the area around. I understand we have a large group to be served and the team has tried the best to serve us. Nevertheless, the service is rather slow. It may be my mistake not to read the menu carefully that the service charge is included. Nonetheless, I think it would be nice to be told that there would be an extra service charge upfront when I booked the table.
We had a table booked however we were running late and so rang to advise that we would be late. When we got to the restaurant we were advised that our table has been given away, even though there were over 4 empty tables clearly available in the restaurant. By the time we took our seats most of the restaurant had cleared out and there were only 3 tables left. We were made to wait a long time between each course and the staff were cleaning up the restaurant around us making a lot of noise throughout our meal. The waitress we had was very friendly and helpful, however she was the only one working with very little help it seemed. The food was average and not worth what was spent.
We had a fabulous dinner. The food was magnificent and the service matched it We can’t wait to come back
Friendly and efficient service. Lovely starter from the fixed price menu. Main course a bit disappointing both in terms of quantity and quality (a bit dried up). 10% was not deducted from bill as promised as an overnight guest both on website and before the meal. Had to question bill at reception the next day
Excellent all round
I pre-booked the Monday wine and dine offer along with overnight stay at the hotel. As soon as I sat at my table I was told by the waiter quiet abruptly that the free bottle of wine was only for 2 diners. I remember the offer as half a bottle per person. He then said he would try to accommodate the offer by offering me 2 medium glasses of house wine. Was somewhat put off by his attitude to be honest. Later there was a delay in bringing the second glass of wine, and when I raised that with the same waiter he was confrontational and somewhat discourteous. The starter (cod) was amazing but the duck (main) was too well done and rubbery. Wasn't in the mood to try dessert after all this. I'm sure it's a great restaurant and have dined there many years before when I lived in Liverpool. Maybe just a bad night's experience for me. The hotel itself was really nice to stay in with top class facilities. The breakfast was faultless.
Generally good quality and reasonable value.
We had a wonderful time on Saturday at London Carriage Works. The atmosphere was vibrant, the food spectacular and Liv (our waitress) and the somellier provided an outstanding service.
The food when it arrived was excellent - the table was booked for 8.15pm but we didn’t eat until 10.15pm. We were sat by the windows and were cold - needing to put our coats on. It’s a great restaurant and I enjoyed my food and wine but for £61 per head it needs to address these points
It’s been a while since we’ve been to TLCW, and have to say, WOW - really really good. In particular the first courses and deserts fantastic - if I was being really picky, the halibut being sous vide didn’t bring out the best flavour in the fish and the extensive wine list (which was great in terms of extent and choice) was on the expensive side. Having said that, and having just spent 3 weeks restaurant hopping in France, it was brilliant- in particular GREAT service- THANK YOU!!!!
Service on this evening was erratic and chaotic, and food quality suffered. Seemingly too many "walk ins". Should have turned people away if not able to cope with staff available. Disappointing.
The quality of food is good. For a dining room of that standard I would expect the serving staff to all be wearing matching uniform, for example shoes, shirts and an apron. The price charged is not representitive of the standard of the service in the dining room and I think that is were there is a divergence. Charging £150+ for 2, you expect the very best. The staff are lovely and happy to help. I think it's the lack of attention to detail that really stands out.
Our waitress was lovely, and very helpful. Me Dad had a great 65th - we’ve been lots of times before and will be back again :)
Really fun experience for any visitors outside of the UK who want a classic afternoon tea. Friendly service, yummy food and great memories!!
Very nice afternoont tea. Service was impeccable.
Excellent venue for my 50th birthday it was thank you
Good food. Friendly staff. But unfortunately I was overcharged as it was supposed to be a set price 3 course menu
Fantastic experience with a taste sensation
We enjoyed an excellent dinner on a fairly quiet Thursday evening. My only criticism is that the main courses could have been hotter, but the food was well cooked and presented, imaginative and very tasty.
Lovely overnight experience whilst staying just 1 night when going to see a show at The Philharmonic Hall.
Food and service were fantastic. Lighting needs to be less harsh to create a warmer ambience. Temperature was on the cool side with a distinct draft from the air con. Didn't want to take my coat off!
