About The Lifeboat Inn
The Lifeboat Inn’s restaurant in Thornham offers a variety of places and cosy corners with roaring fires, comfy sofas to dine or simply have a drink and unwind. Whether you prefer to dine in our history-soaked bar, spacious, bright conservatory or relaxed dining room, we're as passionate about the quality of our food as we are about its provenance.
With some of the UK's best local producers on our doorstep, we're proud to be able to showcase locally-reared meats, freshly caught fish and Norfolk grown vegetables on our comprehensive, home-cooked menu.
Our Head Chef and his dedicated, highly skilled team knows just how to make the most of this locally-grown fayre. Our menus evolve constantly and feature seasonal produce while it is at its best.
From delicious, set-you-up-for-the-day hearty breakfasts, to traditional lunchtime or evening meals like fish and chips, country pates, ploughman's platters, crisp salads, hearty soups and stews and the best Sunday roasts, rest assured that each and every dish is sourced, prepared and cooked with provenance in mind, from field, sea or river to fork.
Catering for all dietary requirements (vegan, gluten-free, dairy -free), we also provide a well-balanced children's menu. Small groups with set menus for any occasion, whether it's breakfast, lunch or dinner, can also be catered for.
If you are looking for a unique restaurant in Thornham for a group gathering, celebration or party, our two cedar wood pavilions offer one of the best al fresco dining experiences on the Norfolk coast.
Thanks for good service during our stay. I dont no their names but our young waitress(s) did a great job
Lovely meal in the Lifeboat Inn celebrating our wedding Anniversary. My only criticism is that it is a shame that there is no longer table service in the conservatory, we had not realised that this had changed and were left embarrassed when trying to order drinks when we first sat down. Such a shame as food prices have not been reduced.
A lovely quirky pub in a very pretty location. Rooms beautifully decorated - great en-suite with a huge bath! Our room looked over the marshes to the sea. Their true dog friendly approach was greatly appreciated and we were made to feel very welcome. Dinner was good - breakfast was top notch - and service very friendly. Tad understaffed at times but staff coped very well. Will return. Highly recommend.
So over priced for the food you receive. Lady at reception was nice after that we were completely ignored. Completely self service, no one cleared our plates, until the coffee we ordered at the bar arrived, planned to stay for dessert but food was so average it wasn’t worth it. They must be understaffed or under different management. Fish platter was hot and cold, risotto was undercooked. Felt bad as we were celebrating my grandfathers 85th birthday (not that any staff bothered to ask). The nicest thing said to us was after we paid! Will not be returning, such a shame as it’s a beautiful venue and used to be so nice!
We didn't like or feel comfortable with eating at Titchfield Manor where we were actually staying & instead booked a table at The Lifeboat. Greeted by a lovely friendly waitress. Didn't feel rushed in any way, lots of menu choices & thoroughly enjoyed our meals.Hopefully next time we'll be looking to also book accommodation at The Lifeboat.
Welcoming pub and great location, food is consistently good and the service is always great. Keep up the good work!
Very disappointed with the meal served - re-fried fish and chips did not reflect a highly skilled team of chefs. Portions were meagre however service was good. We would not recommend you to a friend or colleague.
great location, food, staff and ambience, what's not to like, we'll be back!
Lovely weekday lunch with generous portions. Full for the rest of the day! Very friendly and efficenc staff. Highly recommended and I look forward to many return visits
Excellent bar and waiting staff, very friendly. Atmosphere very welcoming, even for my dogs. Clean, food was all very delicious we are definitely coming back, we all really enjoyed the whole experience. Whether you go just for drinks or dining. Thank you.
Very busy Sunday lunchtime but took ages to queue to order food and drinks, no one showed us to our table we had to find it ourselves, (in the conservatory which is nice ) someone did check on us but it was ten minutes later, food was great but took half an hour to come, which we don’t mind as long as we are told! Food was pricey so we expected better service.
Ordering food from bar was busy, much better to have someone come to the table.
Good simple hearty food. Pleasant quiet atmosphere in restaurant. Initially service was slow but once they had taken our order it was fine. When I booked for 7.15 the website said our table would be needed by 9.15, which might have put us off on a different occasion and the restaurant was not full so it was unnecessary.
Food was absolutely divine, staff were really friendly and lovely and dogs are more than welcome in the conservatory area. Would 100% recommend, the only downside being it’s slightly expensive
Service truly terrible. Not enough staff and we were forgotten and ignored the whole time
I am so upset that my favourite north Norfolk pub has truly gone downhill. Miserable lady behind bar when asked for menus told on table , when advised they were just drink menus she rudely responded “well I will have to get some then” she did not improve with her bar service, slowest bar service, male behind bar no idea who was next to be served just went with who was in front of him. Order took an age more so when mentioned my special request that son had a peanut allergy and was nearly charged for his meal it seems because of this until I queried it, booked table for 3 and only had 2 chairs.. The 2 members of staff did not seem to have any idea. The food was very disappointing, we weren’t asked if it was ok and didn’t want to have to que to advise it was not. People were leaving because of the slow service (it was not even busy)Parasols broken tables not cleared, all in all a very sad and disappointing visit and doubt would return. Such a shame.
The food here is lovely and there are different places to sit to enjoy it; outside (front and back), inside and a conservatory. Service is excellent; prompt and friendly - we were running late and I rang to explain - no problem at all (thank you Michelle) - and this was on a Bank Holiday Monday when they were busy and could have had a different attitude. We had a fishmonger sandwich and a crab salad - both absolutely gorgeous. The Lifeboat is clean, welcoming - with great food and service. This was our second trip and we will return.
Waited over an hour for food ,my husband ordered crab salad it was VERY poor to say the least waitress plonked a tub of skinny fries on the table and said we have run out of new potatoes, with a take it or leave it attitude we declined them. We might as well have eaten in the bar area as the menu was exactly the same ,we were given a 25% discount and the staff were apologetic.
Waiting ages to put order in and absolutely zero interest or acknowledgement from the staff. Thankfully atmosphere and above average food made up for the lack of service. Lovely setting too!
Loved it, the dog biscuits went down very well too with our four legged friend. Thank you
Delicious fresh Norfolk crab dish and half pint of whitebait made an excellent lunch, served with a smile on a very hot day! Very happy with our experience and will return.
Wonderful staff, so good with small children. Will definitely be back again soon
A truly excellent service. We originally booked into the bar for a meal since the Restaurant was booked but was able to change this to the Restaurant due to a cancellation. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. The food was excellent with sensible sized portions and a good selection. Free tap water was provided without asking and all for a very reasonable price. I can thoroughly recommend The Lifeboat Inn.
We were very disappointed. And being locals who eat out regularly we would not come again, certainly not in August. To many customers and hardly any staff. Food was dreadful. My husband used to work at The Lifeboat when he was a teenager, so he was looking forward to his visit as a guest and not an employee. Sadly his birthday dinner turned out to be a disaster! Felt very sorry for the waitress who was on her own and obviously trying her best under pressure. We were in the restaurant and could hear people complaining at the bar and asking where their food was. We were booked in for 19.45 and our order wasn't taken until 20.15. The starters arrived at approximately 21.00. We did not stay for desert as I think we would still be sat there! And to make matters worse we paid £73.00 for this! Come on Lifeboat, it's a long winter without the local folk supporting you!
The room was lovely and can’t fault it. Service in restaurant was very slow, waited 40 minutes from sitting at table until we got starters then as soon as those plates were cleared we were presented with our main meals with no gap to digest starters. Breakfast next morning was warm at best. You need more staff if you are going to cope with the demands Of your location.
