About The Lifeboat Inn
The Lifeboat Inn’s restaurant in Thornham offers a variety of places and cosy corners with roaring fires, comfy sofas to dine or simply have a drink and unwind. Whether you prefer to dine in our history-soaked bar, spacious, bright conservatory or relaxed dining room, we're as passionate about the quality of our food as we are about its provenance.
With some of the UK's best local producers on our doorstep, we're proud to be able to showcase locally-reared meats, freshly caught fish and Norfolk grown vegetables on our comprehensive, home-cooked menu.
Our Head Chef and his dedicated, highly skilled team knows just how to make the most of this locally-grown fayre. Our menus evolve constantly and feature seasonal produce while it is at its best.
From delicious, set-you-up-for-the-day hearty breakfasts, to traditional lunchtime or evening meals like fish and chips, country pates, ploughman's platters, crisp salads, hearty soups and stews and the best Sunday roasts, rest assured that each and every dish is sourced, prepared and cooked with provenance in mind, from field, sea or river to fork.
Catering for all dietary requirements (vegan, gluten-free, dairy -free), we also provide a well-balanced children's menu. Small groups with set menus for any occasion, whether it's breakfast, lunch or dinner, can also be catered for.
If you are looking for a unique restaurant in Thornham for a group gathering, celebration or party, our two cedar wood pavilions offer one of the best al fresco dining experiences on the Norfolk coast.
First time at lifeboat inn and we were very happy with everything, the service, the meal and staff definitely be back, just what we needed after a busy week
The quality of the food is excellent to go along with attentive staff. - what's not to like? No hesitation in saying we will be back.
Walking in at 1850, the receptionist was on the phone and made no effort to engage, so we went to the bar. The barman was brusque, rude and told us to return to reception. Now off the phone a polite greeting and we were taken to our table. Drinks were swiftly provided as were menus. Order taken the for 30 mins or so nothing. A table opposite ordered after us ...just a main course , which arrived before ours starter. This was the sharing baked camembert...so not a long cook , the cheese was fine but the 4 small strips of celery looked a bit odd. The main was meant to be a sharing platter of ribs, selectors, wings etc but what arrived was a large plate of ribs on soggy chips. The ribs were cold , so returned, and it seems that the ribs were also a sharing platter, so that was a misunderstanding, but to be served cold?? Profuse apologies, and the ribs were 'comped' off the bill, but overall, not a good experience. We are staying at the Orange Tree...a far better welcoming and dining experience.
As usual great food in a great environment and the dog looked after also..!
Food was delicious, staff were friendly and helpful.
Be nice to see Specials on menu on a Sunday we come every couple of weeks with dog and tried everything on the menu now. Really like how can reserve a table in conservatory as bring our dog and he settles better in the corner table which normally can have.
Really enjoyed the visit and would recommend The Lifeboat to anyone. Have left a 5* Rating and comments on Trip Advisor
We love the Lifeboat and always visit when we are in the area. I would recommend you book ahead as weekends get quite busy for food but that’s because it’s excellent !
Our weekend stay in the 'Richardson' room - ground floor beside the archway was very comfortable. Breakfast and dinner meals were excellent. Staff made us very welcome. For sure we will return.
I gave the food 4 stars rather than 5 as I had the savoury tart, which was excellent, but I question why the boiled new potatoes needed to surrounded by balsamic? Trendy maybe, but sadly not to my taste!!
A lovely pub, we enjoyed our food very much. We will definitely be back if we are in the area again.
Ate here a couple of times this week in the bar area and both times the meals were very good and would make a point of calling again next time we are in Norfolk
A good choice of food except we were told "mussels are off" with no other explanation. The food and wine we did choose were excellent. The resataurant was far too hot inside - almost uncomfortable to eat in. Service was professional but could have been more friendly. We were sat in the middle of the room which felt a little like a goldfish bowl - there were other empty tables more discrete but I felt unable to ask to move due to the nature of the way we were served.
Appreciate Sunday lunchtime but service was very slow. Wine order forgotten. Main course, although good, could have been hotter not helped by cold plates. Excellent puddings.
Very enjoyable lunch. Thank you
The service was slow, they weren’t busy busy either. The food was fine, a bit bland, nothing special. The rest of my family raved about this place approx a year ago, however this time we all agreed; we wouldn’t rush back.
as usual great lunch in the conservatory.
We've been staying with you for many years, and keep coming back, so you're obviously doing it right. We have noticed the prices creeping up steadily however....
Essen war gut, Service könnte etwas besser sein, respektive könnte die Weine besser kennen
The Lifeboat makes guests and their four legged friends very welcome and spoils the waggy guests throughout. Rooms are comfortable and clean and real fires add to the welcoming appeal after a long walk along the headland with buffeting waves and sand.
Delicious lunch, chicken, gammon pie, your sticky toffee pudding wonderful. Keep up the standard, we'll be back. The Life Boat we felt list it's appeal as food was not do good. Thought we'd try again, glad we did!
Food lacked imagination for the price and not up to the same standard as we have experienced here on past visits
Another great stay at the Lifeboat. a superb short break.
Lovely Sunday lunch, beautifully cooked!
Good food and service Bar service slow due to only one very hard working guy on
