About The Lifeboat Inn
The Lifeboat Inn’s restaurant in Thornham offers a variety of places and cosy corners with roaring fires, comfy sofas to dine or simply have a drink and unwind. Whether you prefer to dine in our history-soaked bar, spacious, bright conservatory or relaxed dining room, we're as passionate about the quality of our food as we are about its provenance.
With some of the UK's best local producers on our doorstep, we're proud to be able to showcase locally-reared meats, freshly caught fish and Norfolk grown vegetables on our comprehensive, home-cooked menu.
Our Head Chef and his dedicated, highly skilled team knows just how to make the most of this locally-grown fayre. Our menus evolve constantly and feature seasonal produce while it is at its best.
From delicious, set-you-up-for-the-day hearty breakfasts, to traditional lunchtime or evening meals like fish and chips, country pates, ploughman's platters, crisp salads, hearty soups and stews and the best Sunday roasts, rest assured that each and every dish is sourced, prepared and cooked with provenance in mind, from field, sea or river to fork.
Catering for all dietary requirements (vegan, gluten-free, dairy -free), we also provide a well-balanced children's menu. Small groups with set menus for any occasion, whether it's breakfast, lunch or dinner, can also be catered for.
If you are looking for a unique restaurant in Thornham for a group gathering, celebration or party, our two cedar wood pavilions offer one of the best al fresco dining experiences on the Norfolk coast.
Very comfortable dining area with tasteful decor. Our food was well presented and the mussels very good. The prawn and crayfish cocktail was a touch too cold. Main courses were plentiful and tasty. We did not have dessert.
Food was good; and quick service. However I would have liked more potato and veg with the vegetarian tart... what was provided was little more than a garnish.... my husband had a roast and there was a lot more food on his plate than mine!!!
Warm welcome received from all staff. Offered water for the table straight away. The best whitebait I have ever tasted. Butternut squash and pea risotto not as tasty, needed a little something else. Service was good, staff friendly. Ask for hand cut chips rather then fries, that was no problem. Would recommend and will return. Thank you for a lovely evening.
Had a lovely four day half price break good time of year offer
Lovely place to eat. Good food, could have been a bit hotter but tasted great.
My steak wasn’t very good, a bit stringy and not medium rare as requested. Otherwise food was good.
Sadly our NYE party for 10 was ruined. This is our 7 visit on NYE over the years but never again. There was only approx 8 tables in total and guests were seated at random times, so when we were eating only 4 others were and the rest of the tables were being cleared around us. The food was very average . Then to top the whole lack of atmosphere a random 25 guests mainly under 15 in jeans and tea shirts took over the only small dance floor lying and jumping around while we were forced to move our dining tables and dim lights ourselves to make our own dance floor with the remaining 3 tables, who were also discussed after spending several hundred pounds to stay there over the new year. A huge disappointment and such an unorganised event. The rest of the pub on the other side was empty .... so I’m not too sure what has happened to this? what used to be a lovely pub / NYE night out... an empty pub tells you something is wrong on NYE
This is the fifth time we have had Christmas Dinner at The Lifeboat Inn and will almost certainly be the last. The service was at best lacklustre, hurried and unfriendly which is not what you want on any dining experience, let alone Christmas Day when you are spending considerably more per head. The welcome was none existent and we almost felt as if we were imposing on the FOH member, not getting our complimentary drinks until well after we had been seated. The food was very mediocre and this was possibly complicated for the team due to there not being a set menu like previous occasions, allowing people to choose on the day. This was a hurried affair and when two of our party wanted the roast with no meat (as they are pescatarian) there was no offer of anything else to compensate and not even an extra vegetable of any description on their plate. Again, not great value for money as effectively they had soup, roasted veg and a dessert for £75. I have been frequenting The Lifeboat Inn for well over 20 years and have seen the service and food decline vastly over the last 4 or 5, now to the point that it would be the last place I would recommend to a friend visiting or indeed go to myself. Such a shame as this used to be the "go to" place in Thornham, if not the North Norfolk coast.
Lunch on New Years Eve, lovely food friendly staff a perfect place to visit after a beach walk
You should read my email sent to reception yesterday. Really aweful cheap food in a cold dining room. Very expensive. Poor value.
Friendly efficient staff
Our comfortable and well appointed bedroom rates a full five stars - the welcome hamper on arrival and surprise Christmas stocking were very nice touches and much appreciated. Otherwise our Christmas package was let down by petty restrictions about where we could sit with our dog, unimaginative menus and poor service: the waiters were totally incompetent - a friendlier receptionist wouldn't have gone amiss. Lighting in the bar desperately needs improvement.
It would be nice to see game on the menu or specials when in season e.g. partridge, pheasant, venison.
Nice food friendly staff lovely decor
The food was very tasty, though a bit overpriced. The staff were very friendly, but the service was not good. There was only one other person – a single man - in the restaurant when we there, but for some reason they seated on the very next table to ours, and with almost non-existent background music, talking was not exactly intimate. My wife ordered parsnip soup, but was given leek and potato. It came with a white roll, but when my wife asked for a brown roll, she received sliced bread and butter. Our neighbour didn’t seem too happy with his service either.
We were very happy with our Christmas meal, we were also made to feel very welcome, including our dog, who had been down to the beach, so was not as clean as when she arrived.
Not as professional as last year. Service slow. Receptionist not on the ball. Starters and main course just ok, sweet was luke warm Christmas pudding from Tesco via the microwave? Disappointed for the price....
We booked Christmas Day Dinner at The Lifeboat Thornham and it certainly didn't disappoint. Service was excellent, ambience was good and the food was fabulous. Wouldn't hesitate to book again. Staff were all very pleasant polite and jovial
Took 20 minutes to get a welcome drink which should have been given on arrival . My roast dinner did not have any sprouts or bread sauce . No steak knife for rib eye . Considering the price paid and being Christmas Day ( comparing other establishments visited previously ) this was quite an ordinary experience with nothing really to make it feel special. It was nice but that was about it .
The team were great, but unfortunately we had to leave during our dinner, as one of our dogs was very distressed at the noise the crackers made. Thanks to the team for making us feel welcome tho. We really enjoyed the starter and what we had of the Christmas dinner, apart from the sprouts being hard.
Disappointing there was confusion with our restaurant booking, following our reservation in the restaurant which we were able to verify. The food was good and our waitress was delightful however we was looking forward to a pleasant evening and the confusion somewhat tainted our experience.
Excellent location, excellent food and excellent staff!
Lovely meal served by friendly, helpful staff in relaxed and welcoming surroundings
Had a really lovely Sunday lunch. The roast pork was delicious. Good atmosphere and pleasant surroundings. Good service and friendly waitress. Service was just right. Would definitely visit again.
