About The Lifeboat Inn
The Lifeboat Inn’s restaurant in Thornham offers a variety of places and cosy corners with roaring fires, comfy sofas to dine or simply have a drink and unwind. Whether you prefer to dine in our history-soaked bar, spacious, bright conservatory or relaxed dining room, we're as passionate about the quality of our food as we are about its provenance.
With some of the UK's best local producers on our doorstep, we're proud to be able to showcase locally-reared meats, freshly caught fish and Norfolk grown vegetables on our comprehensive, home-cooked menu.
Our Head Chef and his dedicated, highly skilled team knows just how to make the most of this locally-grown fayre. Our menus evolve constantly and feature seasonal produce while it is at its best.
From delicious, set-you-up-for-the-day hearty breakfasts, to traditional lunchtime or evening meals like fish and chips, country pates, ploughman's platters, crisp salads, hearty soups and stews and the best Sunday roasts, rest assured that each and every dish is sourced, prepared and cooked with provenance in mind, from field, sea or river to fork.
Catering for all dietary requirements (vegan, gluten-free, dairy -free), we also provide a well-balanced children's menu. Small groups with set menus for any occasion, whether it's breakfast, lunch or dinner, can also be catered for.
If you are looking for a unique restaurant in Thornham for a group gathering, celebration or party, our two cedar wood pavilions offer one of the best al fresco dining experiences on the Norfolk coast.
Great food and fab staff. We will be back!
Good try given circumstances
I had been recommended by a friend that the Lifeboat was good and I was absolutely delighted by how much effort and care was taken by each and every staff member to feel welcomed but also safe on our visit. It was our first family meal out and not only was the food outstanding but the ambiance in The Sail was relaxed and family friendly whilst still feeling safe and having an almost ‘safari-like’ vibe! It was so welcome to do something which almost felt normal! Thank you to all the Lifeboat team for making it a memorable and excellent experience! 5 stars!
Under the circumstances that we are experiencing at this time we have to say that all was excellent and well catered for by the waitresses who have more work to do.
Limited menu choice & food served from boxes wasn't great. Understand the reason behind this but other local restaurants we have visited have used crockery. On the plus side, we enjoyed sitting in the 'sail'.
Considering the COVID circumstances, we had a very enjoyable lunch. Food excellent, atmosphere was the best we could hope for. Staff polite & welcoming. Definitely come again.
Member of staff taking food and drink order was rather grumpy and rude. The Sail area outside was a little soulless but it was a Sunday evening. Pizzas were tasty and very cheesy!
Lovely pub, fab food - an absolute joy and always a perfect end to a gorgeous day. Lovely friendly, chatty, helpful service. Being able to order without going inside would be even better. Lovely evening. As expected we really enjoyed it!
Brilliant food in a lovely (rather unique!) setting. Felt completely safe and comfortable and found the whole experience relaxing and enjoyable.
I ordered the food ready for Collection at 8.45 pm. On arrival it wasn’t clear where to pick up takeaway Pre ordered food from. Man at the bar was quite food- you need to wear a face mask Can’t serve you unless you do. Fair enough bit where abouts do I pick food up from. Here! I returned with a face mask and showed my email Confirmation- no response but disappears into the back with no food. Asks to see what I ordered so I showed him, he disappears again without a word and reappears again without a word. So after a few minutes I ask how long until the food is ready he says 10 minutes. Clearly the order has been forgotten But this was not explained and no apology and finally at 9.25pm the food was ready 40 minutes about the collection time. Not good enough really !
Great place to eat out in this present time. Tables well placed apart In the outdoor marquee and food boxes a good idea. Tasty food and good service.
Very pleasant lunch at the Sail. Would book again.
Liked ‘the sail’ very efficient system in these strange times and good for you for coming ip with creative solutions.i don’t really like eating out of boxes but i get why it helps you get more people through which is very important seeing how full everything is round here !
Great Fish and Chips served in a socially distanced manner that was very good.
We were very disappointed to find that instead of refunding us the 15% VAT that the government has waived - they told us their decision was NOT to pass on this discount. We found the hotel and restaurant very average and will not be returning.
Well organised and as welcoming as ever. Lovely food and great to see the business thriving despite restrictions. Thank you!
The attention to cleanliness was 10/10 and the staff work extremely hard to keep patrons safe. The food was lovely with fresh local produce. We sat outside in the gazebo which was a great half way house between being in the garden or restaurant. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Professional service, great food & so well organised due to Covid!
The sail was a lovely place to eat especially on a hot day. Service was a little slow but as we were in no hurry this was no problem.
The team are doing a fantastic job during difficult circumstances to provide a great service and welcome their guests. The Lifeboat is managing brilliantly with all the new rules and regs. The restaurant and bar is as busy as ever and eating out under the Sail was a fun experience especially as we have been very lucky with the weather. Food is excellent and is served take away style by the waitresses and you order at the bar with your drinks. Don't expect usual service but expect something different and embrace it. Social distancing rules apply throughout from staggered check in and breakfast times to waiting at the bar etc.
Need to make the whole thing slicker and make it table service outside. Having to go into the pub to order was slow & made it unnecessary for people to be inside especially when people weren’t social distancing or wearing masks. Pizza was nice, a bit too much cheese, and onion rings were very greasy.
My concerns were dealt with swiftly, breakfast staff were brilliant and food was excellent. Bar prices quite steep. Menu restricted cos of Covid, and served outside under a marquee like structure but was quite nice. The room was clean apart from the inner of the two blinds which had black marks on it. Checked out over the phone as instructed in the welcome pack, but was not asked if I was happy with my stay so I made sure I said we had a good time. View from bedroom over the marshes to the sea was lovely. Room a little on the small side, but because we had such lovely weather, we only slept in there anyway!! Water was REALLY hot from the hot tap, and it was impossible to make a cool shower if that's what you like. I would go back.
We had a lovely lunch in the Sail restaurant. The fund was delicious and well presented even in the boxes. We all had Elton mess for dessert it was the best I have eaten. Well done to the staff at the Lifeboat for ensuring that all Covid restrictions were fully adhered to
Enjoyed our fish and chip lunch under the sail. Social distancing observed by everyone, felt very safe and well looked after, thankyou.
Service rather slow to order drinks/food at the bar. Food was delicious though, great pizza! Servers were very friendly.
