About The Lifeboat Inn
The Lifeboat Inn’s restaurant in Thornham offers a variety of places and cosy corners with roaring fires, comfy sofas to dine or simply have a drink and unwind. Whether you prefer to dine in our history-soaked bar, spacious, bright conservatory or relaxed dining room, we're as passionate about the quality of our food as we are about its provenance.
With some of the UK's best local producers on our doorstep, we're proud to be able to showcase locally-reared meats, freshly caught fish and Norfolk grown vegetables on our comprehensive, home-cooked menu.
Our Head Chef and his dedicated, highly skilled team knows just how to make the most of this locally-grown fayre. Our menus evolve constantly and feature seasonal produce while it is at its best.
From delicious, set-you-up-for-the-day hearty breakfasts, to traditional lunchtime or evening meals like fish and chips, country pates, ploughman's platters, crisp salads, hearty soups and stews and the best Sunday roasts, rest assured that each and every dish is sourced, prepared and cooked with provenance in mind, from field, sea or river to fork.
Catering for all dietary requirements (vegan, gluten-free, dairy -free), we also provide a well-balanced children's menu. Small groups with set menus for any occasion, whether it's breakfast, lunch or dinner, can also be catered for.
If you are looking for a unique restaurant in Thornham for a group gathering, celebration or party, our two cedar wood pavilions offer one of the best al fresco dining experiences on the Norfolk coast.
Lovely place to spend a wintry afternoon!!
A gem of a place to stay. Had a wonderful stay. Our collies were fussed and loved by the wonderful staff. The room was so comfortable, with blankets, towels, bowls and treats for the dogs. Us humans had such a comfy nights sleep in the lovely bed. Lovely meal in the restaurant. This place is incredible. We loved our stay. Roaring fire, fabulous staff who can’t do enough for you. We felt so at home and relaxed here. Booked to come back in Feb. Can’t wait.
Lovely Sunday lunch
Perfect visit, food and service was excellent. Staff (as always) very friendly and helpful. Will come back soon. Thank you!
We are visiting the area and you came highly recommended. We weren't disappointed, fabulous evening. Your staff were excellent and the food we all had was superb. We are a family of 11 celebrating a family anniversary and you certainly made us feel welcome, thank you.
Good service and reasonably priced food of a good standard. Friendly and attentive staff
Excellent meal and excellent service. Will look forward to returning very soon.
The majority of the people in the booking had a meal of substantial quantity apart from 3 of us that ordered the thai vegetable curry. It arrived in a bowl, which had the food been tipped onto a dinner plate, would have been extremely disappointing. We had to order extra portions of chips to fill up on afterwards as we were still hungry.
The waitress wasn't very friendly at all although she was the only one serving both the restaurant and the bar area. When we sat down our table was extremely close to the large one next to us which prompted the large table to moan about it making us feel very uncomfortable. By the time our mains arrived we had been sitting down for 90 minutes (there were only 2 other tables at that time). I had the mussels which were gritty and tasteless, my daughter's chips were lukewarm and my husbands eggs were almost cold. We asked for more tap water and had to ask again 20 minutes later. Our first time visiting and definitely our last.
Cold food (twice). Scruffy, disinterested staff and the conservatory has the decor and lighting of a cold war nuclear bunker. This Lifeboat is in desperate need of rescuing.
We enjoyed the whole experience very much. We found the service, at times, slow. The Conservatory was an especially pleasant environment & it was great to be able to bring the dog in. For the price an extra slice of meat would have been nice but the Yorkshire puddings were superb. Thank you for a lovely, relaxed time Chris Whichello
Always good food and service when we have been
It has been the best meal we had in Thornham so far and are planning to return before we leave after a four day trip Darren
Food was lovely but service slow. Didn’t see many servers and two that were there were rushed off their feet. As pub was full definitely need more staff. Would recommend and come back tho many Thanks
Really enjoyed our meal. Food delicious for pub food, Lovely atmosphere. Good to have a dog free zone. Thank you
Great ambiance !
My mussels served for starter had over 50% of the meat missing. I told the sever and got charged full price anyway. The pie was tasty , but contained about 1/2 a chicken breast. It feels like the chef is being asked to cut back on the quantity of produce being used. The prices are high for the quality being served.
On this particular evening the service was good other than the time it took to receive our food order. An hour from time of the order being made. Much longer than previous experiences.
Food & drinks good standard, but, we feel, overpriced. For the price of our B&B stay, we expected, for example, much better quality bread or rolls. Instead we were served cheap, supermarket sliced bread/toast. Small details like that make a big difference.
Good upgrade. From last visit For a 4/5* hotel service needs a lot more attention Having worked in high end establishments in London and worldwide you let yourself down in many service respects P starnes
Two very good evening meals
A really lovely meal in a lovely restaurant- we will definitely be coming back as soon as we can - Thanks to all the team.
The food at dinner really poor. Chicken and leek pie that was a bowl of uninspiring gloop with no pastry and a dollop of mash on top. Not even close to being a pie. Greasy lamb koftas with soggy shop bought pitta. Starters not much better. Such a shame as building, location and accommodation are all good.
Nice Inn- light conservatory. Friendly service, food good but not great. Prices fair but service at the table very average with plates not cleared until asked - at one point six tables needed to be cleared including ours- we waited at least 15 minutes until I got up and asked. As you needed to go to the bar to make your food or drink order this meant several trips back and forwards - at no point was I asked if I wanted a desert. Strange. Coffee was poor. That said the atmosphere compensated.
