About The Lifeboat Inn
The Lifeboat Inn’s restaurant in Thornham offers a variety of places and cosy corners with roaring fires, comfy sofas to dine or simply have a drink and unwind. Whether you prefer to dine in our history-soaked bar, spacious, bright conservatory or relaxed dining room, we're as passionate about the quality of our food as we are about its provenance.
With some of the UK's best local producers on our doorstep, we're proud to be able to showcase locally-reared meats, freshly caught fish and Norfolk grown vegetables on our comprehensive, home-cooked menu.
Our Head Chef and his dedicated, highly skilled team knows just how to make the most of this locally-grown fayre. Our menus evolve constantly and feature seasonal produce while it is at its best.
From delicious, set-you-up-for-the-day hearty breakfasts, to traditional lunchtime or evening meals like fish and chips, country pates, ploughman's platters, crisp salads, hearty soups and stews and the best Sunday roasts, rest assured that each and every dish is sourced, prepared and cooked with provenance in mind, from field, sea or river to fork.
Catering for all dietary requirements (vegan, gluten-free, dairy -free), we also provide a well-balanced children's menu. Small groups with set menus for any occasion, whether it's breakfast, lunch or dinner, can also be catered for.
We love the Lifeboat - fantastic food & service. Was very quiet on our visit just before Christmas, but that's just due to the current climate. Looking forward to coming back when we can and enjoying the buzz again!
Excellent service Friendly staff Lovely ambiance Lovely food
We appreciated the chance to eat out, (first time on Christmas Day) as we decided to isolate from our family. Bearing in mind the small numbers, we felt safe and enjoyed the food. Very generous portions & a good choice of starters, mains & desserts.
Very enjoyable Christmas lunch
Really enjoyable festive afternoon tea
Excellent food and super helpful staff !
Had lovely Sunday Roast in the conservatory. Dog friendly. Meal was delicious, large portions with Yorkshire’s the size of side plates! Friendly service with staff wearing face masks. Very quiet for a lunchtime service, only 3 other tables in use whilst we were there. Definitely recommend along with good walk on Thornham beach.
We had a table for 5 in the conservatory for my wife's Birthday, Service was excellent, food was great and we all felt safe and secure. The Lifeboat Inn was a new find for us in the summer but we return often and it never disappoints.
Delicious festive lunch, great value for money and very good portion size. Staff super friendly, attentive and professional. Can’t wait to return...
Lovely venue excellent meal.
The food and service were fantastic! The staff were so friendly and attentive! The lamb was the best lamb I’ve ever had! 5 stars all round
We ate in the restaurant twice - great food
Despite the difficult times, everything was done to make us feel welcome! Food was excellent and service was superb & friendly.
We had a fabulous 3 course meal at The Lifeboat. Everything was of good quality and cooked to perfection. Would highly recommend and would love to return when we next visit the area. All the staff were very friendly but executed everything within COVID guidelines. We felt safe but had a really enjoyable time.
Homemade Peppered Steak pie was amazing.
We had a wonderful lunch the pie of the day was superb All Covid-19 safe and service with a smile Such a lovely warm and welcoming atmosphere
Clean and tidy restaurant however not impressed by cheap boring tea light candle on the table. Staff friendly and polite however very small portion of fish served for main meal and hardly any vegetables. main meal of lamb decent size but had small amount of vegetables servered with it food was nice and tasty but unacceptable really for the price. We did infrom the waitress who said she would tell the chef but we didn't get any feedback. Feel ripped off. We have been to the lifeboat serveral times and have previously enjoyed it but will not returning in any time soon.
Lovely meal on Monday evening, menu has changed, miss the fish pie but my fish dish was excellent.
Really enjoyable stay. Our 4th visit. Covid restrictions did not affect the high level of friendly and professional service we always receive. We will be back.
We had the pleasure of staying for 3 nights December 2020 during a break in lockdown times! We were pleasantly surprised to see they were interpretating restrictions in a sensible way and we were as residents able to sit in their beautiful open log fired rooms sipping a G&T or Mulled wine :-) as it's almost the festive season the Tinsel was out which added to ambience. Breakfast was plentiful and varied, and of high quality food and cooking. We ate once in the evening again good quality food. The only negative for us is that like most places in Norfolk dogs are allowed and treated like humans!!! Sitting on sofas, sitting in walkways in log fire areas and even during meal times which I really do not like or think at all necessary.. we knew this before arriving so it wasn't a problem but I do feel people who bring dogs should sit in less "plush" areas and eat in the conservatory areas leaving 4 star areas as that..not being a doggy daycare area. The rooms are clean, compact and have beautiful views there's ample parking and it's set in a beautiful area. The rooms are all named after the lifeboat crew who used to be based there apparently which we felt a lovely touch. The staff we're lovely, friendly helpful and knowledgeable of our questions :-) thanks for a lovely long weekend.
Well cooked quality food with a varied menu. Excellent, friendly service and a good atmosphere.
Had the best mulled wine I have ever tasted ,dinner was superb, especially the mussel starter, really relaxed and friendly staff, and I loved the building itself, lots of cosy corners, will definitely visit again, excellent location for coastal walks, perhaps stay over night next time.
Quality of food quite poor Asked if it had changed hands as food very disappointing
We love the Lifeboat and the service is fantastic. Our waitress dealt with a rather rude customer really well, polite but firm, which we were very impressed by. The food is delicious and we look forward to coming back again soon :)
