About The Lifeboat Inn
The Lifeboat Inn’s restaurant in Thornham offers a variety of places and cosy corners with roaring fires, comfy sofas to dine or simply have a drink and unwind. Whether you prefer to dine in our history-soaked bar, spacious, bright conservatory or relaxed dining room, we're as passionate about the quality of our food as we are about its provenance.
With some of the UK's best local producers on our doorstep, we're proud to be able to showcase locally-reared meats, freshly caught fish and Norfolk grown vegetables on our comprehensive, home-cooked menu.
Our Head Chef and his dedicated, highly skilled team knows just how to make the most of this locally-grown fayre. Our menus evolve constantly and feature seasonal produce while it is at its best.
From delicious, set-you-up-for-the-day hearty breakfasts, to traditional lunchtime or evening meals like fish and chips, country pates, ploughman's platters, crisp salads, hearty soups and stews and the best Sunday roasts, rest assured that each and every dish is sourced, prepared and cooked with provenance in mind, from field, sea or river to fork.
Catering for all dietary requirements (vegan, gluten-free, dairy -free), we also provide a well-balanced children's menu. Small groups with set menus for any occasion, whether it's breakfast, lunch or dinner, can also be catered for.
If you are looking for a unique restaurant in Thornham for a group gathering, celebration or party, our two cedar wood pavilions offer one of the best al fresco dining experiences on the Norfolk coast.
We were very disappointed in arrival as seated in a new Tipi area with very limited menu, not as advertised when booking. Service was very slow and food took over and hour and a half to come. The owners had increased capacity but with massively Inadequate staff. Very frustrating evening.
We were not aware on booking that we were booking the tipi not the main restaurant which we would have liked to have known about before. The menu was therefore limited, it was chilly, and the poor waitress was working so hard all on her own. She could not have tried harder but it was an impossible situation for her. We wanted a cosy pub experience but that was not what we got. Such a shame and really needs to be better advertised.
It was a very last minute booking as we were visiting the coast but we had no problem getting a table. We took pot luck with our table expecting bar or restaurant but we were seated in the tipi outside. When we entered we thought wow what an atmosphere, so unique and cosy. Fire pit was an excellent feature. It was like being in Finland. Basic menu was not a problem, food was plentiful, hot and tasty. Staff very friendly and attentive considering they had to go out into the cold whenever you needed a drink or to serve your food. If I am honest if I didn't live so far away I would book again for the following night. Only thing I found a disappointment was the fire pit had been burning during the day and had not been restocked with wood. The flames would have made our night complete but we were warm enough. And we look look forward to visiting again. During covid I think the venue has done it's best and a limited menu is nothing to complain about. Childs menu was good enough for our child.
We were not told when booking that we would be sat in an unheated (until after 20 mins the staff worked out how to turn the heater on) tent outdoors. The barman told us this had the same menu as indoors. It did not. You really must tell people booking if they will not have the experience advertised so they can choose if they want this. The food was overpriced for what/where it was served. We are returning customers but would think twice next time.
Great food, nice atmosphere, friendly service and early bird discount on our meal made for a special evening at the Lifeboat.
Enjoyed dining in the Tipi, had a lovely meal, great food. The Tipi is a wonderful place to eat, such a lot of thought gone into creating a wonderful atmosphere with beautiful lighting, however incredibly hot! Even on a very windy evening the heating was over powering, such a shame it could not be adjusted, otherwise fab place.
Booked a table that we presumed was inside, the website made no mention of the tipi, unlike when we booked for the sail. We were put in the tipi it was cold with a very limited menu. Drinks were ordered but arrived wrong. We were told there were no steak pies but then watched them being served to others. A very nice blond lady sorted that out for us she was a credit to you. Fish and chips were served in a metal basket with no plate and the fish fell through the basket, the mussels were under cooked. My son’s mask was mistakenly taken away with the plates. When I asked about it we were told it would have been thrown away. No one even bothered to look for it. We have eaten here several times and also stayed. This visit was enough to put us off returning. Poor value for what we were served and poor service bar one lady.
Fined in the new Tipi. Very enjoyable experience and the waitress was superb, especially considering the weather. Great food as well. Recommending some friends to visit. Thank you
Great food and great service. Children making a nuisance was the reason I scored the atmosphere down. See you again.
Lovely location. Beautiful building and interiors and great staff. The Tipi looks beautiful!
We had a lovely breakfast here in October. We weren’t staying at The Lifeboat but we thought we’d treat ourselves to a breakfast. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Fresh fruit and yogurt followed by The full English breakfast which was was delicious. Plus toast and jams. We will definitely be going again. The new decor is lovely too.
Very enjoyable evening
We used the take out service for the first time and it was excellent food on time, would recommend
Very pleasant lunch, good service and good value
Very Dog friendly, lovely food we’ve already booked again under partners name 😊
A returning customer. I usually eat and drink on the premises (many times a yr). This was the 1st takeaway experience (due to covid19). I was impressed and pleased with all aspects of the food and service. Especially so under difficult conditions.
Such a shame as we have had tasty and good value meals there before. On this visit the service was very slow and the 2 main courses were awful, soggy Pork belly with no crackling and tasteless fish. We even had to cancel our dessert order as waited 20 mins and received just 1 coffee!!! So disappointed.
Lovely food, friendly staff - great place to dine out.
Fantastic food and great service as always! Great treat on our walks between Holme and Thornham! Thankyou - especially under current circumstances!
Under very difficult circumstances we felt all the staff did a great job whilst we were there
Hi We had a lovely meal, felt safe. Service was a little slow however we appreciate that this might be because of COVID restrictions so just pleased to be eating out again and revisiting some old favourites away from home Amanda
Takeaway food order which was excellent. Easy to choose & order via website. Food really good and value for money.
An enjoyable lunch
We don’t like to moan, but we arrived at 7:15, waited 30 mins for a drink, my wife waited 45! Food was ok but waitress was very disinterested. OK evening but would not rush back.
There was no signage or person to direct us upon arrival, unlike everywhere else we've been. The member of staff I did eventually find was a tad unhelpful. However the person behind the bar was most helpful. Our table was not ready at the time we were told, and the waitress had to rush to clean it. The drink order arrived after 20 minutes, and was served along with the couple who came in 10 minutes after us. The roast veggies were warm at best, and the veggie option for the roast were 3 cheap frozen vegatable sausages. Not to my wife's liking at all. For £16:50 more was expected. Most disappointed.
