About The Lawns Restaurant
Recently being awarded the title of Best Tasting Afternoon Tea in the UK 2018, the award-winning Lawns Restaurant is set within Thornton Hall Hotel, with stunning grounds and terrace it’s the perfect setting for your fine dining experience. Best described by the Head Chef, “we bring you classic food cooked to perfection, showcasing the best local produce with passion and exceptional service”
The team go to great lengths to design and create mouth-watering dishes, thoughtfully creating an experience for your taste buds through flavour combinations and textures. Always using the best of what the season has to offer and the highest quality ingredient, sourced locally. With our own market garden in its early stages of growing, we couldn’t get more local!
Our sommelier John is on hand to suggest the perfect wine accompaniment from our extensive and varied list, he may even share some from his Little Black book, just ask him!
We have an enviable Gin selection to tempt you to try something new, even producing our own specially blended Torintone Gin made with water (amongst other things!) from our own well.
Whether it’s dinner out or an extra special occasion, a visit to Lawns Restaurant will not disappoint, we aim to exceed your expectations and we can’t wait to welcome you.
Service is often a little slow and it's obvious staff are often new. But the food is wonderful.
As always, the service is excellent, the food lovely and the whole experience something that we always look forward to. The consistency is always there and we are always made to feel welcome. Not something we could afford to do every week but 3 or 4 times a year makes our meet ups special.
A perfect afternoon tea - delicious food, an excellent range of teas, first class service and an impressive room overlooking well kept lawns. Definitely the best afternoon tea we've ever had. We particularly liked having one sweet and one savoury stand rather than having to choose between the two. We will definitely return here.
Lovely evening meal-complimentary canapés and amuse Boucher were very tasty. Homemade bread and butter also gorgeous. Service excellent throughout. Atmosphere was lacking slightly.
The staff are excellent
Thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience, and my friends did too. Also the happy birthday plate in chocolate plus the strawberries, was really appreciated. Thank you once again
Visited the Lawns for a birthday Afternoon Tea celebration for my cousins birthday. She had recently been very poorly and we wanted to treat her. We were greeted at the door by a lovely man who knew why were there and also addressed my cousin by name and wished her a happy birthday (this made her feel very special). We received 1st class treatment from the time we sat down to when we left. They made us feel we were the only guests in the restaurant! Would recommend the Afternoon Tea as the food was delicious, the surroundings beautiful. All the staff are a credit to the Hotel. June Jones
Great food and wonderful experience. Went above & beyond for my partners birthday. Can’t wait to come again
One waiter in particular was very good. Didn’t get his name but he had a young family and lives in Saltney.
Very enjoyable meal But the feedback I would like to give is that it was on the slow side Would not like a rushed meal but we did wait along time between 1st&2nd courses. Then my husband’s beef was not the best .Did seem as if the staff just had too much to do But people coming later than us did seem to do better time wise
The food in The Lawns Restaurant was not only beautifully presented but tasted amazing. The restaurant staff were extremely polite + very helpful + made it a fabulous evening.
Lovely afternoon tea
Breakfast was good.
A delightful experience - thanks!
Lovely treat for our anniversary, Fabulous food and superb service from wonderful friendly staff. You couldn't ask for anything more.
Food was beautiful and service was great. My only query would be how much the afternoon tea had decreased in size. I have treated my mum for afternoon tea with yourselves for 3 consecutive mother’s days and the serving size seems to have decreased. Both 2 years ago and last year there were 8 sandwich fingers and a wrap per person and this year only 4 fingers with no wrap. This is still an okay portion but just wondered why it had suddenly decreased so much in size. There was also 5 cakes plus a yoghurt in the middle on previous years and only 4 very small cakes this year
Just a lovely day the private dining room was beautiful staff were fantastic all in all perfect ..... Thank you x
Took mum for mother’s day. Knew it would be pricey, but was shocked to see I would be charged extra for roast potatoes and veg when I was already paying £35 per head. Surely we pay enough up front.
Very busy at it was mothers day, everything was great although i did have to go to the bar twice myself as there was no one around the area we were sat in for most of the time we were there. Lovely food and the staff we did deal with were great. W
We had the Sunday special and the food tasted as if it had been warmed up having been cooked a few hours previous with the roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding were not that good.
Excellent afternoon tea, lovely atmosphere
Couldn’t fault it and mother in law was delighted with birthday surprise!
I would have given it 5 but we had ordered a vegetarian savoury but when we arrived it wasn't available, so my son had the savoury as it was made and his girlfriend has vegetarian sandwiched instead
First time for us , a Xmas gift from family, very special, very attentive staff, lovely selection of food.Would recommend anyone to try afternoon tea. Amazing Thank you.
