About Thornton Hall Hotel & Spa
Being awarded the title of Best Tasting Afternoon Tea in the UK 2018, The Restaurant is set within Thornton Hall Hotel, with stunning grounds and terrace it’s the perfect setting for your relaxed dining experience.
the food we had for our meal in the evening in the lawns was fantastic, however the service really let it down, we were disturbed constantly through our three course meal when twice we were brought someone else's food, on one occasion while we were already eating dessert the waitress tried to put down someone else's dessert on our table asking is if we had ordered seconds! our main meals (steaks ) were also put down ont he table next to us before they refused it ans staff realised it was ours, not usually a massive problem but with Covid id did put us off somewhat that the plates had been put in front of other people before making it to us. room was dated, the bathroom was a mess with silicone all over the bath edges, the coffee machine water was full of bits and spoons where stuck together with something sticky. all in all quite disappointed considering the 24 hour stay cost nearly £400
It cost us £18 for one artichoke. Nothing else came with it. Shockingly poor. The hotel and all staff were brilliant. The food was terrible
We had a fabulous stay. The spa was great as were the room and the food!
Staff were brilliant. Loved the spa. The food was good but the wine was a bit pricey. I'd expect New Zealand sauvignon blanc at £30. We had a great time and hope to return. Thanks
Wonderful stay yet again! Very clean- attentive friendly staff- wonderful service- exceptional house keeping- l- great spa experience and all restrictions in place to ensure guest safety during this awful pandemic. As premium members we are usually upgraded but this time there wasn’t any availability but the standard twin room was fine. We were in the middle of 2 families with children who spent most of the time running backwards and forwards outside our room which wasn’t ideal! We had 2 evening meals. Both good but the venison burger was very over cooked ( rather burnt) We will obviously return hopefully as soon as Covid restrictions start to ease.
Lovely terrace, that looked out on the garden with heaters & sheepskins over the chairs for warmth. Great staff who were friendly & efficient. We had an Asian sharing platter which was nice but nothing special. The drinks were expensive £10 for a large wine but you expect that in a hotel. We will return as its a great location close to home xx
Lovely afternoon tea, very friendly staff thoroughly enjoyed the whole experience
Excellent food and service
When I found out what paid compared to others it was a lot, also in the spa nobody was monitoring the use of the outdoor hot tubs! We didn’t get to use them as a family and 2 couples were in them between 45mins to an hour and not once did anyone say something even though you could see people waiting Also was not happy to speak to someone who made it clear they had travelled from tier 3 to stay, did you not check addresses ? Food was amazing and the staff on reception and in the restaurants were fabulous.
Really enjoyable stay xx
Lovely outside area on the terrace
Food was fantastic for lunch and dinner but the breakfast was a real let down. It didnt feel as gourmet as the rest of the food you offer. The black pudding was awful! Yet we ate it the night before with the pork belly and it was delicious, obviously this is different and not shop bought? The roast tomato was also stone cold and perhaps the sausgae could have been of a better quality? A gourmet breakfast at the same standard as your other food offerings would be good. Maybe something liked poached eggs with salmon and avacado would also be nice? I also felt the spa could have been better managed. We would have prefered an hour time slot rather than it be really busy and have to queue for this and it also be more relaxing.... but i know this is out of your control really and when we did get in the hot tub it was nice for it not to be crowded. The other thing that could be improved is we were in room 341 and there was no extractor fan in the bathroom and of course no window. Not great or very romantic when youve induged in food and wine!! The bed was also zipped together and you can tell. A luxury double matress topper might be helpful. What we loved... Your staff! Everyone was so lovely and there were a few little things like the room was late and there was a little disturbance in the massage but we were given free drinks vouchers which was great. Our massage was fab! The facilities and cleanliness of the spa was great. The room was beautful, just the brown bathroom door was awful and no extractor fan. Overalll we had a lovely break with you. There were just a few things listed above that let it down for us and could have been improved. So glad we made it before the next lock down!
Lower grade rooms could do with freshening up. Staff however were very good and friendly. Public areas, eg bar Crystal room are very nicely decorated with a nice feel to them
Overall our stay was ok. Room for 4 but only set up for 2 so had to request additional towels and cups. Very clean. Spa was very busy and no ice cave available.
I thought the service was excellent from all the staff, really impressed and we had a lovely time.
We have stayed in a lot of hotels in the last few years and some really nice ones, but this hotel and its staff are exceptional, from booking in,to the bar service everything service wise was really good, and the spa and facilities were excellent. The quality of the furniture the carpets curtains and the light fittings show that all details have been thought of, the staff must be very proud to work in such a lovely place and this shows with there very friendly attitude. The rooms are fantastic even down to the tv in the bathroom and the coffee machine in the rooms, we had a garden view room with a balcony overlooking the manicured lawns. My wife had three spa services two massages and one facial and she couldn’t speak highly enough of the well trained masseurs, the swimming pool and the hot tubs are very well kept and the food and atmosphere in the brassiere restaurant and the staff again were well above what we expected, we could not have asked for anything more perfect
Excellent service throughout. Couldn't recommend enough.
We had steak and the beef and ale pie delicious the terrace area was lovely warm even during a storm !! Highly recommended
Very pleasant ambience. Friendly and efficient staff.
We had a wonderfully relaxing time at Thornton Hall. This was exactly what we were looking for and needed. Staff were all so attentive across all aspects of the hotel; from front of house to the dining and spa experience. Everyone went out of their way to ensure we had a wonderful stay. We look forward to staying again in the near future. Thank you to everyone for working tirelessly to make this experience possible. Merry Christmas ❤️
Food was awful, ordered a medium rare steak and it was so rare. Partners chicken was cold. Service was so bad. Didnt get asked once if our food was ok, when our food got collected no one asked how it was? Drinks took 30 mins and also got the wrong order. Spa treatment got moved to the next day. List could continue! Never again
A fantastic stay! Cannot wait to return.
Staff are absolutely amazing. Friendly, helpful and just generally wonderful. Hope they all have an amazing Christmas after the hard work they have put in.
We thoroughly enjoyed the festive menu. Tables on the outdoor terrace were well spaced and the staff were polite, helpful and attentive despite being very busy.
Superb and excellent service throughout. Fantastic afternoon tea.
