About The Larder House
Founder James Fowler (2014 World Class UK Bartender of the year) and his highly skilled & dedicated team are breathing a refreshing and much needed, new life into East Dorset’s food and drink scene. Infused with traditions of bygone eras and through continuous researching into the greatest foods from around the U.K & Europe, The Larder House is rapidly winning the hearts of the countries foodie elite and local residents.
The wood fired oven is at the core of the restaurant & bar, but what’s most inspiring is the seamless synergy between the kitchen and front of house. The enthusiasm is abundant and the research that goes into their offering is intriguing. This ensures that everything you order has a story to tell, be it their range of unordinary back bar spirits or the range of charcuterie & cheeses that they showcase. The Larder House is playful, accessible and carries a buzz in the air that is difficult to describe. What’s important though, is that it gives you the feeling you have stumbled upon something very special, almost secret.
It’s a project for us where we really do serve pure passion. We pay homage to the origins of true food whether local or from around Europe. Beyond what we offer now is a lot of learning where we are pushing ourselves to be ambassadors to the foods and drink that we all personally love to enjoy. We don’t just serve it, we really do live it!!
The Larder House opened its doors back in January 2011 and will continually evolve by discovering new products and creating its unique portfolio of offerings. As a customer you will really see the restaurant & team grow & specialise. Especially when you attend one of their showcase nights whereby the team give a unique food & libation pairing event covering all aspects and flavours of the chosen product. Previous showcase nights have shown expertise in Sherry wines, Offal, Port, Absinthe, Single Malt Whisky & Gin.
We received a warm welcome, everyone was very friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The food was delicious, portion sizes were huge. I ended up taking a bag of food home. Lovely setting and atmosphere.
what a lucky find and a gem of a diner. My sister was over from Ireland and staying with friends nearby. When I offered to take her to lunch she said she didn’t know the area and I should choose somewhere. The reviews are all good so I put my faith in people power and wasn’t disappointed. Great food, service atmosphere and staff. Worth the trip from Sturminster Marshall
We have hopefully booked again for Sunday 15th December at 12.30 for 4 people. The waitress couldn’t get her screen to work so she wrote the details down. However, I haven’t had a confirmation email and she said one would be sent! Please can you confirm we are booked in?
We've been coming to The Larder House for quite some time now. We really enjoy the food and atmosphere, and often finish our evening by visiting the Library upstairs. On the past couple of occasions it feels the service has lost its attention to detail and enthusiasm. The staff seem less personable which can't help but put a dampener on the evening and in turn makes the value of the meal very high. The food is mostly always great, however when the service isn't it leaves a sour taste paying these prices. It also seems The Library hasn't been open on our last couple of visits which is a shame.
excellent meal and service, as always
We thoroughly enjoyed our evening at the larder house and our food was amazing! Thank you!
Really excellent Sunday lunch, arguably the best in the Bournemouth region (in my opinion!!). Everything is great, one minor grumble would be the wine is tad over-priced.
Just great! Wonderful service and the food was really good
Amazing as always! Loved the veggie roast option
Food was excellent!
Great food and service. Would have liked a more extensive wine list.
We’ve eaten Sunday lunch here several times and we always have an excellent meal.
We had a lovely meal! The quality of the food was impressive, and it was presented beautifully. The service received was very good, with friendly staff. We enjoyed the atmosphere and would recommend The Larderhouse highly!
Delightful as always
Somewhat over priced for what we had to eat. Wanted the special but run out very quickly. Good friendly service but nothing extraordinary.
Great food! Lovely restaurant/bar will definitely be coming back!
Our absolute favourite!
My only feedback would be that my beef was slightly tough. And it was cooked very well done. I would not go for the beef in future because of that. My family went for ham hock which was amazing. Other than that we had a lovely meal and great service.
Good experience, despite being close to front door (I imagine would be cold there in winter). Liked the atmosphere and jazz music. The desert not to the same standards as rest of menu, but otherwise fairly impressed for a local restaurant.
Excellent service and food, will definitely be back again.
My girlfriend wasn’t sure which drink to have in the upstairs bar, the barman really went above and beyond he asked what her favourite flavours were and made her a perfect cocktail. The food was perfection and staff were lovely, our table was near the kitchen this meant the waitress had to stand right next to our table (arms length) and watch us eat which was slightly uncomfortable but she was very good. Thanks for the lovey food
Had an excellent meal here recently. Went for Sunday lunch a few months back so wanted to go back during the week. Food and service were excellent (the lamb was amazing). Will definitely be back and would highly recommend.
Excellent roast lunch
Really enjoyable, great food, London prices though so felt a bit punchy for Southbourne
