About The Larder House
Founder James Fowler (2014 World Class UK Bartender of the year) and his highly skilled & dedicated team are breathing a refreshing and much needed, new life into East Dorset’s food and drink scene. Infused with traditions of bygone eras and through continuous researching into the greatest foods from around the U.K & Europe, The Larder House is rapidly winning the hearts of the countries foodie elite and local residents.
The wood fired oven is at the core of the restaurant & bar, but what’s most inspiring is the seamless synergy between the kitchen and front of house. The enthusiasm is abundant and the research that goes into their offering is intriguing. This ensures that everything you order has a story to tell, be it their range of unordinary back bar spirits or the range of charcuterie & cheeses that they showcase. The Larder House is playful, accessible and carries a buzz in the air that is difficult to describe. What’s important though, is that it gives you the feeling you have stumbled upon something very special, almost secret.
It’s a project for us where we really do serve pure passion. We pay homage to the origins of true food whether local or from around Europe. Beyond what we offer now is a lot of learning where we are pushing ourselves to be ambassadors to the foods and drink that we all personally love to enjoy. We don’t just serve it, we really do live it!!
The Larder House opened its doors back in January 2011 and will continually evolve by discovering new products and creating its unique portfolio of offerings. As a customer you will really see the restaurant & team grow & specialise. Especially when you attend one of their showcase nights whereby the team give a unique food & libation pairing event covering all aspects and flavours of the chosen product. Previous showcase nights have shown expertise in Sherry wines, Offal, Port, Absinthe, Single Malt Whisky & Gin.
Fabulous service and food... good quality food at reasonable price. We will becoming back with friends and family... what a gem for southbourne!
I had to take our food to go as my daughter was frustrated which I understand isn’t the restaurants fault however we didn’t get any vegetables to take away. We when we got home and plated up with was just meat and potatoes. Abit disappointing for not a cheap meal.
Great food!! Beef was amazing.. cocktails and wine were also fab!! Great to see the chefs using the wood fired oven!
Lovely lunch at the larder house. Food was delicious and loved eating out in the conservatory. Will definitely be back!
As always, had a fabulous meal, friendly staff and great atmosphere.
Nice place, table service was hit and miss. Girl who served us was lovely, but the guy didn’t seem to be particularly on the ball. Relish for charcuterie platter was dropped on floor by waiter as it arrived at the table, but wasn’t replaced until we asked for it. Then we were given another chutney. Not sure whether this was right! Platter of cheese and charcuterie platter were nice, but not a lot of cheese for the money. Also, asked for more pitta, but had finished before it arrived.
Great service, excellent food and wine.
A wonderful evening.
Great place really enjoyed the meal
Always great food and service
Never let’s us down
Very hot so we sat out in the terrace at the back of the restaurant - perfect! Food, wine, - excellent. Staff and service - just right, friendly but attentive. Love this restaurant. X
Always fantastic for Sunday lunch!
It was our first visit to Larder house and we took a couple of friends with us for lunch. My husband is gluten free and loved the buckwheat pancakes, he didn't have to ask what was available, it was all there clearly labelled, lots of variety and totally delicious. Will definitely come again.
This was our second visit and there will be many more. From the time we arrived to the time we left attention from staff was welcoming, friendly and professional. This fabulous venue is a real jewel. Starting in the cosy prohibition bar upstairs where even just watching the experienced barman is like watching an artist at work and we got to enjoy the results. Then down to the restaurant where lovingly prepared delights ignite senses of the Mediterranean and beyond and each course is an event to savour. Can’t wait for our next visit.
Really friendly and attentive service, great range of food and drinks available. Be careful getting larderhouse for starter, as you are unlikely to finish your main meal. Great value for money.
Lovely food and atmosphere, service was quite slow but very knowledgeable and friendly.
Lovely food as ever, but disappointing when ordering tea that the waiting staff didn't know what teas were available, nor were they able to give a comprehensive list. They were simply too busy to assist, which isn't a great service!
fantastic service from the moment we arrived. we went up to the library and the two bartenders went above and beyond to make this a great night out. well done all!
A beautiful meal and atmosphere. Thank you.
Great food - lovely creative menu with really well executed dishes. Good buzzy atmosphere too. Only reason for 4 stars on Service was that things slowed up a little towards the end - I know you had a busy night but we were tired and ready for bed, nearly lost out on dessert as we were flagging so much!
Fantastic local restaurant. Varied menu, good wine list - can’t recommend enough!
My husband and I ate here and had a lovely evening. I have Coeliac Disease so it's always difficult for me to eat out comfortably. I was really impressed with the waitress who went through the whole menu for me telling me what I could have or couldn't and what could be adapted. This was great but I have say that I always feel more comfortable when there is a separate gluten free menu, just from experience. It's lovely to be able to have things adapted but there is always a worry that this may get forgotten. I chose the mussels to start and the chef forgot that I needed GF bread. At the last minute they remembered so I had a little wait while they warmed it up for me. The wait wasn't a problem, it's just if they are forgetting to give me GF bread what else might they forget. Unfortunately when you have a severe dietary requirement everything is a concern. Our food was lovely and the service was great. It was just unfortunate that the shake and stir festival was on and the band stage was right outside the door, so we did struggle to talk to each other.
Crab was great but roast beef very over cooked. Service was chaotic along with certain wine and cider on menu not available. Drinks over priced and wine menu was confusing. Loved the patio area.
We are with you last night. Hadn't realised when I booked it was the shake and stir weekend. Basically you shouldn't have sold any tables at the front without warning as all the windows were open. When taking the booking they shouldn't have mentioned that the event outside was on. Service was rubbish. Staff were very distracted by the event outside. When we received our main courses one out of the 4 ordered was missing. Instead of letting us know when she gave us the food she went away served another table then came over and told us she hadn't ordered my husband's main course and that it would be a while as they were having to cook it. It came about 25 minutes later. By that time we had all finished ours. We were with guests of ours and it was very embarrassing as we had been singing the Larderhouse' s praises. My husband then ordered cheeses and that took forever. All in all a very disappointing evening.
