About The Larder House
Founder James Fowler (2014 World Class UK Bartender of the year) and his highly skilled & dedicated team are breathing a refreshing and much needed, new life into East Dorset’s food and drink scene. Infused with traditions of bygone eras and through continuous researching into the greatest foods from around the U.K & Europe, The Larder House is rapidly winning the hearts of the countries foodie elite and local residents.
The wood fired oven is at the core of the restaurant & bar, but what’s most inspiring is the seamless synergy between the kitchen and front of house. The enthusiasm is abundant and the research that goes into their offering is intriguing. This ensures that everything you order has a story to tell, be it their range of unordinary back bar spirits or the range of charcuterie & cheeses that they showcase. The Larder House is playful, accessible and carries a buzz in the air that is difficult to describe. What’s important though, is that it gives you the feeling you have stumbled upon something very special, almost secret.
It’s a project for us where we really do serve pure passion. We pay homage to the origins of true food whether local or from around Europe. Beyond what we offer now is a lot of learning where we are pushing ourselves to be ambassadors to the foods and drink that we all personally love to enjoy. We don’t just serve it, we really do live it!!
The Larder House opened its doors back in January 2011 and will continually evolve by discovering new products and creating its unique portfolio of offerings. As a customer you will really see the restaurant & team grow & specialise. Especially when you attend one of their showcase nights whereby the team give a unique food & libation pairing event covering all aspects and flavours of the chosen product. Previous showcase nights have shown expertise in Sherry wines, Offal, Port, Absinthe, Single Malt Whisky & Gin.
First visit for a long time and our first meal in the upstairs library room. Service was attentive but not over the top, food was excellent, well cooked and presented. Left the wine choice to the staff and was not disappointed.
We had a wonderful evening of food and drink for our wedding anniversary. The beef cheek scotch egg was just delicious and beef duo couldn’t be beaten. Highly recommended you visit if you get the chance.
Great spot for a special birthday meal - innovative menu, generous portion sizes, DELICIOUS food and great wine. We couldn’t have asked for more.
Missing a few of my favourites from the fish platter but still overall a lovely experience!
Second visit and very happy with both the outstanding food and excellent service again, despite the restrictions. Shouldn't be letting groups from multiple households dine in, although they didn't affect us directly, but otherwise everything seemed very well organised, safe and definitely delicious!
Salmon mousse was delicious, roast was okay plenty of very nice beef and super roasties but wasn’t over excited by the burnt vegetables from the wood oven, we had to ask for horseradish and extra gravy which came in a miniature jug. Confused by the wine list although offered a taste which was good. Took 15 minutes to be able to pay, and obviously this is not the establishments fault but whole experience was ruined by a loud trio behind us whose lives history we now know!
Amazing as always
9/10. Where’s the stuffing at?
Portions are generous and tasty. Love that the food is locally sourced. The outside/indoor area is really cute. Cannot wait to go again...
Perfect all round. Highly recommended. Can’t wait to go back again.
As ever, amazing Sunday roast like we’ve had many many times before. Lovely staff, very tasty food and new desert was a right treat. We will definitely be back soon.
We were there for a family birthday celebration and the staff were very accommodating.....the food was very well presented, I had the beef which was beautiful, tender, and fell apart while eating......the whole experience was wonderful....
Absolutely awful. I've enjoyed this place for years yet went last night and the food was absolutely shocking yet the bill was 198. I didnt complain as it was our first night out since lock down so didnt want to spoil the lovely company I was in. After going for 7yrs I wint be going back again.
Great food and service given the pandemic!
Great atmosphere and really friendly staff
In what must be the strangest year ever it is great to see that a pandemic has not had an effect on the amazing food in the Larder House, which remains my favourite restraint!
I think the giro serving us our meal was new so I don’t wish to sound harsh, however as much as we were enjoying ourselves as a couple waiting an hour for a starter isn’t really acceptable.
Very enjoyable evening and the food was great.
As always fab food and drink!
Amazing Sunday roast. Prices have gone up a bit but understand why! Very friendly service. We went with our rather loud baby and were made to feel very comfortable. Good covid measures in place and felt well spaced out
First time visiting, the scotch egg was incredible and all tapas and charcuterie board was delightful!! Cant wait to come back !!
Great new menu. Staff fabulous as always. It’s great to be back for an espresso martini (or two)
Fabulous in every way
superb food (a big hug in the belly - much needed in these strange times) and lovely friendly staff. We will miss you this month.
I had this place recommended to me and I was not disappointed! Food was excellent, a meal is slightly pricier than standard in the area but you pay for the quality of the food that you get there. The service was great. Atmosphere was only a four stars due to the time I went - I’m sure the atmosphere is five star usually. I’ll definitely be going back when possible and recommend to anyone.
