About The Larder House
Founder James Fowler (2014 World Class UK Bartender of the year) and his highly skilled & dedicated team are breathing a refreshing and much needed, new life into East Dorset’s food and drink scene. Infused with traditions of bygone eras and through continuous researching into the greatest foods from around the U.K & Europe, The Larder House is rapidly winning the hearts of the countries foodie elite and local residents.
The wood fired oven is at the core of the restaurant & bar, but what’s most inspiring is the seamless synergy between the kitchen and front of house. The enthusiasm is abundant and the research that goes into their offering is intriguing. This ensures that everything you order has a story to tell, be it their range of unordinary back bar spirits or the range of charcuterie & cheeses that they showcase. The Larder House is playful, accessible and carries a buzz in the air that is difficult to describe. What’s important though, is that it gives you the feeling you have stumbled upon something very special, almost secret.
It’s a project for us where we really do serve pure passion. We pay homage to the origins of true food whether local or from around Europe. Beyond what we offer now is a lot of learning where we are pushing ourselves to be ambassadors to the foods and drink that we all personally love to enjoy. We don’t just serve it, we really do live it!!
The Larder House opened its doors back in January 2011 and will continually evolve by discovering new products and creating its unique portfolio of offerings. As a customer you will really see the restaurant & team grow & specialise. Especially when you attend one of their showcase nights whereby the team give a unique food & libation pairing event covering all aspects and flavours of the chosen product. Previous showcase nights have shown expertise in Sherry wines, Offal, Port, Absinthe, Single Malt Whisky & Gin.
We were out in the courtyard which was lovely, although I felt it lacked a bit of atmosphere/ambience. The food & staff were amazing though & I would come again in a heartbeat whether we were seated inside or outside!
Best roast around and just a lovely place all round!! 5*
Another awesome evening in the Library... The return of the Hot Buttered Rum was particularly welcome... What a wonderful way to wile away a few hours Thanks again Jim and Amy
My son had previously been here for a Christmas party last year and was told the roasts were great. They certainly did not disappoint. Delicious flavours the Ham hock was enormous and very tasty. Enjoyed by all 4 of us so much food couldn’t even manage a pudding. House red very good too. We will be back.
As always another superb Sunday lunch
Fantastic food. Lovely atmosphere and very attentive service.
We were looked after by a wonderful set of ladies who even made sure our dog was included. The garden area is really pleasant and it would have been great to stay longer. The food was very nice although my wife said her beef was not as hot as she would serve it, however all was well made and tasty. Highly recommended.
Amazing food; the ham hock and the roast lamb were cooked to perfection... best meal I’ve had in ages. Wine and cocktails good too. Great atmosphere, lovely staff with the perfect level of attention... and thank you for giving us such a lovely candle lit table. We’ll be back soon. Thank you
Great food and service
Roast lamb came with only 4 very small potato pieces (think thin chips) and portion was unsubstantial. We actually went and ordered another Sunday roast later that day as it was 100% underwhelming and unfilling. When the bill came in the Camembert box, it was flung frisbee style onto our table which was abrupt. We ordered starters, mains and a bottle of wine so spent quite a bit. We were tempted to order a dessert, but the thought of another disappointment sent us to crazy town.
Lovely Saturday lunch - thank you!! We will be back
I had the special which was excellent, the oysters were fresh and tasty and the menu was different, these days that is such a relief.
Great discovery, lovely staff, wonderful cocktails. Nice relaxed atmosphere. Sadly, I live 4 hours drive away so will not be able to become a regular!
Great atmosphere for Sunday roast.
Great atmosphere for Sunday roast.
The food and service were fantastic as always. The staff are so friendly and knowledgeable about the food and drink menus. The portions where huge but we couldn't stop eating it. It was the best roast chicken we have ever tried.
Yet another delicious Sunday lunch at The Larder House . The service is always impeccable, the food to die for ,a real treat . You all make my time there so special. Thank you as always xx
Great service, great food! Will be back!
Fantastic and very accommodating to our changing arrival time
We ordered bread and a bottle of water, neither came but they were not on the bill so it wasn’t a problem, just disappointing. The outside side eating area is more like a leaking conservatory which I regretted booking. The wine list is not very easy to read. I thought every bottle was £40 but the waitress explained it to me and said lots of other people say the same. The food was good and not over priced. As it was my husbands birthday I wished it had been more special.
Very nice meal. We had the Grocers Platter being the more appealing of the two vegetarian options plus a few side dishes. The blue cheese date s are a must have! Slightly breaded out but a good meal.
Staff are so knowledgeable, friendly and really give you the time of day. You feel important when you visit.
We went for a Sunday lunch for my Dad's birthday, amazing food and service from all - thanks team!
Awesome night as always, service food and drinks were all on point 10/10! We went up the the Library after our meal and they did me a Havana 7 Old Fashioned, enough said and possibly the best cocktail I’ve ever had. My wife had a Margarita and said it was in a different league. Cheers guys Will
