About The Larder House
Founder James Fowler (2014 World Class UK Bartender of the year) and his highly skilled & dedicated team are breathing a refreshing and much needed, new life into East Dorset’s food and drink scene. Infused with traditions of bygone eras and through continuous researching into the greatest foods from around the U.K & Europe, The Larder House is rapidly winning the hearts of the countries foodie elite and local residents.
The wood fired oven is at the core of the restaurant & bar, but what’s most inspiring is the seamless synergy between the kitchen and front of house. The enthusiasm is abundant and the research that goes into their offering is intriguing. This ensures that everything you order has a story to tell, be it their range of unordinary back bar spirits or the range of charcuterie & cheeses that they showcase. The Larder House is playful, accessible and carries a buzz in the air that is difficult to describe. What’s important though, is that it gives you the feeling you have stumbled upon something very special, almost secret.
It’s a project for us where we really do serve pure passion. We pay homage to the origins of true food whether local or from around Europe. Beyond what we offer now is a lot of learning where we are pushing ourselves to be ambassadors to the foods and drink that we all personally love to enjoy. We don’t just serve it, we really do live it!!
The Larder House opened its doors back in January 2011 and will continually evolve by discovering new products and creating its unique portfolio of offerings. As a customer you will really see the restaurant & team grow & specialise. Especially when you attend one of their showcase nights whereby the team give a unique food & libation pairing event covering all aspects and flavours of the chosen product. Previous showcase nights have shown expertise in Sherry wines, Offal, Port, Absinthe, Single Malt Whisky & Gin.
Lovely food. Great quality and service.
Very enjoyable meal. High quality food. Friendly and efficient staff. Highly recommended.
One of the best Sunday roasts dining out we have had. Disappointed that they run out of beef & brandy snap baskets. But we will definitely be back.
Great Sunday lunch with plenty of flavour and attentive service
This was my 3rd Sunday visit to the LarderHouse, but I must start by saying this particular review is giving them the benefit of the doubt. We were 1st to arrive in a candle lit restaurant, to be informed there was a power failure which in turn would restrict menu choices, all bills would have to be hand written, paid for in cash & no hot drinks either. Fortunately all roasts & desserts were available, bonus we thought. Unfortunately the staff seemed rather distracted, reasonable under these conditions but our waitress was very new & struggled to answer many queries we had regarding the menu & drink choices, therefore poor girl spent a lot of time trying to track someone down who wasn’t dealing with the effects of the power failure to ask. The food was, as usual, of a high standard, although the little glass of ganache dessert was absolutely solid, splitting hairs a bit but the centre piece of the dessert was the ganache. Not a particularly relaxing atmosphere made even worse with umbrellas & tables being blown over outside due to high winds....even though they had been warned. So, fingers crossed that normal services will be resumed on our next visit.
Lovely lunch, the menu is very different to anywhere else locally. Library bar upstairs is great as well
Thank you for a wonderful evening.
My favourite place to eat, love everything about The Larder House.
A great Sunday lunch! My go to place for a roast! Staff and food make every visit an occasion!
Lovely evening - great food and great staff. Amazing southbourne sling cocktail. Great wine advice. Thank you.
Super meal except the roast potatoes, although very tasty , were undercooked. Somewhat on the pricey side but nevertheless a great place to eat !
We went for a Sunday lunch. I always provide constructive comments with suggestions as that’s how improvements are made. I would firstly suggest fully revising your drinks menu. It was hard to choose a drink for any of our three adults, children all had lemonade. For me neither pint was nice Pilsner or Porter, my wife had a Bloody Mary with too much ice which made it a watery Mary. Starter menu was not becoming of a Sunday lunch more an evening menu. Go for the Tapas it looked much more appealing but still not a Sunday starter. Mains we had two Chicken, three Beef and one Hock. Chicken and Hock were good, Beef not a great cut and should be Sirloin or Rib, more money I hear you say but much better result and happy to pay the extra. Veg very good, Yorkshire very dry and tasteless (try using beef dripping and cook slightly less), Cauliflower Cheese needs more cheese in it and on top it was soggy with a watery base. I find letting the cauli steam fully and then add sauce with a little English Mustard with plenty of grated cheese on top works much better with no soggy wet base. All in all very disappointing food considering winning an award. Staff however very good. If you want a real winning Sunday Roast go out to The Museum at Farnham every time a winner for the last four years for us and consistently great. They use Sirloin with a reduced tasty gravy, great spuds and cheesy cauli. They have a great variety of drinks. May have just been a bad day. Sorry to say our first experience of Larderhouse and will be our last. There is plenty more out there which are much better.
A perfect night out. The Ham Hock roast was incredible and fantastic value for money too.
Fabulous food and service. Love the Larderhouse uniqueness.
Great meal and waiting staff are exceptional. Thank you !
Excellent as always
Had such a lovely time last night. Staff were really friendly and knowledgeable. The food and wine was amazing. Thank you!
We love coming to The Larderhouse, especially for a Sunday roast! When family visit, this is our restaurant of choice to take them, as the atmosphere, staff, food and drink are all exceptional!
Lovely food lovely service
We hosted an engagement party at the Larder House on Saturday evening and everything was perfect. The atmosphere was lovely and everyone complemented our choice of venue. Everyone absolutely loved the food and wide range of drinks available. The staff were so helpful on the evening and before hand. Everything about the Larder House is perfect and I can highly recommend.
Great restaurant . Excellent family meal
Atmosphere and service was top notch. The starter and main courses we had were outstanding, but the pudding was slightly behind in quality, but we'll certainly be back again.
Lovely food and great roast dinners - was a treat for family who were staying Accommodated the allergies without any fuss and were very attentive with the service Missed going up to the Library which I love
Making the booking turned out to be a bit arduous, with a problem with the e-booking system and difficulty getting through on the phone.
