About The Larder House
Founder James Fowler (2014 World Class UK Bartender of the year) and his highly skilled & dedicated team are breathing a refreshing and much needed, new life into East Dorset’s food and drink scene. Infused with traditions of bygone eras and through continuous researching into the greatest foods from around the U.K & Europe, The Larder House is rapidly winning the hearts of the countries foodie elite and local residents.
The wood fired oven is at the core of the restaurant & bar, but what’s most inspiring is the seamless synergy between the kitchen and front of house. The enthusiasm is abundant and the research that goes into their offering is intriguing. This ensures that everything you order has a story to tell, be it their range of unordinary back bar spirits or the range of charcuterie & cheeses that they showcase. The Larder House is playful, accessible and carries a buzz in the air that is difficult to describe. What’s important though, is that it gives you the feeling you have stumbled upon something very special, almost secret.
It’s a project for us where we really do serve pure passion. We pay homage to the origins of true food whether local or from around Europe. Beyond what we offer now is a lot of learning where we are pushing ourselves to be ambassadors to the foods and drink that we all personally love to enjoy. We don’t just serve it, we really do live it!!
The Larder House opened its doors back in January 2011 and will continually evolve by discovering new products and creating its unique portfolio of offerings. As a customer you will really see the restaurant & team grow & specialise. Especially when you attend one of their showcase nights whereby the team give a unique food & libation pairing event covering all aspects and flavours of the chosen product. Previous showcase nights have shown expertise in Sherry wines, Offal, Port, Absinthe, Single Malt Whisky & Gin.
Great food - lovely creative menu with really well executed dishes. Good buzzy atmosphere too. Only reason for 4 stars on Service was that things slowed up a little towards the end - I know you had a busy night but we were tired and ready for bed, nearly lost out on dessert as we were flagging so much!
Fantastic local restaurant. Varied menu, good wine list - can’t recommend enough!
My husband and I ate here and had a lovely evening. I have Coeliac Disease so it's always difficult for me to eat out comfortably. I was really impressed with the waitress who went through the whole menu for me telling me what I could have or couldn't and what could be adapted. This was great but I have say that I always feel more comfortable when there is a separate gluten free menu, just from experience. It's lovely to be able to have things adapted but there is always a worry that this may get forgotten. I chose the mussels to start and the chef forgot that I needed GF bread. At the last minute they remembered so I had a little wait while they warmed it up for me. The wait wasn't a problem, it's just if they are forgetting to give me GF bread what else might they forget. Unfortunately when you have a severe dietary requirement everything is a concern. Our food was lovely and the service was great. It was just unfortunate that the shake and stir festival was on and the band stage was right outside the door, so we did struggle to talk to each other.
Crab was great but roast beef very over cooked. Service was chaotic along with certain wine and cider on menu not available. Drinks over priced and wine menu was confusing. Loved the patio area.
We are with you last night. Hadn't realised when I booked it was the shake and stir weekend. Basically you shouldn't have sold any tables at the front without warning as all the windows were open. When taking the booking they shouldn't have mentioned that the event outside was on. Service was rubbish. Staff were very distracted by the event outside. When we received our main courses one out of the 4 ordered was missing. Instead of letting us know when she gave us the food she went away served another table then came over and told us she hadn't ordered my husband's main course and that it would be a while as they were having to cook it. It came about 25 minutes later. By that time we had all finished ours. We were with guests of ours and it was very embarrassing as we had been singing the Larderhouse' s praises. My husband then ordered cheeses and that took forever. All in all a very disappointing evening.
The best food we have had since moving here 3 years ago, an absolute gem!
Not cheap, but nice food and amazing service
We have been to the Larder House a number of times now, always really loved the food! 👌🏻Great atmosphere too . The staff are very friendly and attentive. Just one little comment, our waitress we had on Saturday eve, did come across a little abrupt? Not as smiley & friendly as the rest of staff or previous staff members we have had serve us. Other than that all great thankyou. 😁
Great place, lovely food! Will definitely be coming back 😊
Excellent food , great selection of wines - very knowledgeable waiter (Andy) Highly recommended
Absolutely amazing, excellent food as always and the staff are so helpful and friendly. Will definitely visit again soon.
Another lovely Sunday lunch with family. Will be back again.
Fantastic food and great friendly staff :)
Brilliant food and service again. Will definitely be back.
Another amazing roast. Great service too. We always book early in the day as we find if we eat later than 2pm the food can be a little different, roast potatoes hard to cut etc!!
Outstandingly knowledgeable and personable staff. We are never disappointed.
Amazing food and great service as usual Blessed with that lovely bank holiday sunshine so could sit outside Had our drinks served from the library outside - lovely personal gesture that makes all the difference
Disappointed with the roast.. potatoes and carrots were both hard and the remaining vegetables were overcooked. I didn't have the Yorkshire pudding, but my husband said it was chewy and clearly reheated. We've eaten here many times, but not sure it would be one of our top choices now
Great Sunday lunch for carnivores and vegetarians alike
Service was excellent, as was my Lemon Sole... the team are incredibly knowledgeable and eager to give an outstanding dining experience!
Service was great and friendly as always. Food was great and lovely as always. Makes for a special night out, many thanks.
The food was fantastic and the staff were so very friendly. Despite our booking being late (10.15pm), we never felt hassled to hurry up or to leave - in fact, quite the opposite! A really lovely night out and a wonderful place to be.
