About The Kitchen at Restoration Yard
Fresh, local, seasonal breakfast and lunch at The Kitchen. Located in gorgeous, restored 18th century stables around a courtyard just a short drive from Edinburgh city centre in historic Dalkeith Country Park. Light-filled and spacious, The Kitchens ceiling to floor windows afford a panorama along the River Esk to the estate's famous Orangerie. Open until late afternoon 7 days a week, we do our best to cater for all dietary needs over breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea and our series of exclusive evening events.
Poor menu choices, stick to staples rather than making it complicated. Poor value for money. Hard for teens who don’t eat fussy food but also can’t eat off children’s menu. A classic burger would be better than a bean burger and same with a classic fish and chips not tempura seabass. Staff really lovely!!
Lovely morning coffee with some delicious shortbread.
Lovely lunch, friendly and quick service with delicious food!
Favourite place to have break and lunch when I’m driving down from Aberdeen to Gullane . Had many a lovely lunch with you .
Friendly staff, spacious and airy premises, food good b
First meal out with family for a long, long time! We had a lovely meal and didn't feel rushed at all. The staff were really nice and friendly and the food was lovely. Thanks
Always a first class experience
Gorgeous tomato salad and beautiful setting to spend with loved ones!
Booked a table for breakfast and as soon as we arrived we were taken to our table. We love all the bits and pieces in the table top! The service was perfect - courteous and unobtrusive but efficient at the same time. All the staff we encountered were lovely and made us feel welcome. There were good precautions in place and we felt safe in the Kitchen environment. The breakfast was delicious too. Thanks to all the staff for a really lovely experience. It was a super start to our day off work.
A little expensive, but lovely food. Relatively small menu but nice choices and great that breakfast is served all day. Only negative comment (and it’s not really negative, more a suggestion) is that one of the ice cream pots are quite a big portion for a child; especially since the other part has the full selection of ice creams available for a scoop at a time, rather than a whole tub. One or two scoops is enough for a small child!
Great to visit. Great menus and choices. Helpful service too!
Friendly attentive service. Thoroughly enjoyed the breakfast looking forward to our next visit.
First time out for lunch in ages.. and was looking forward to buying some clothes.. sadly nothing for me.. as have bought in the past, but the clothes for a younger age group.. a shame , but did buy jars of goodies , coffee etc.. birthday cards..
Overall excellent care and service in great location.
We had a great lunch. The service was fantastic and atmosphere lovely.
All staff at restoration yard including the shop and car park staff are always so friendly and welcoming. If I could give 10 stars out of 5 I would! Service is outstanding as always.
Efficient service from a friendly waitress. Good choice of light bites on the menu. heritage Tomato salad was delicious.
Brilliant food, quick and efficient service and all in a beautiful setting.
Lovely outdoor area.
The Scottish lady who seemed to be in charge was rather off hand in her manner. Not at all welcoming. My wife found sitting at the window a problem with the sun, making her very uncomfortable. We asked to be moved for that reason. This lady, while allowing us to move tables was not sympathetic and we were left feeling that this was somewhat of a large problem for her. We did notice that there were many unused tables. A great pity.
Excellent food and setting - plenty of space between tables and a lovely view of the grounds and river. Highly recommended.
Staff delightful and very attentive.. when my friend’s steak was too rare for her taste it was taken to the kitchen and a fresh meal with deliciously “ medium” beef” was served... then a “ free coffee” afterwards in a way of apology ! Excellent!
It was quite chilly, but otherwise we really enjoyed our visit
Lovely coffee and cake! My first visit will definitely be back. Unsure about value for money as was a treat for me!
Very welcoming staff, great covid safety measures, delicious cakes.
