About The Killingworth Castle
A warm welcome and a scrumptious 2 AA Rosette menu packed full of locally sourced produce is what you'll find at The Killingworth Castle...a real treat after a busy day exploring nearby Blenheim Palace and the stunning Oxfordshire Cotswolds!
The Killingworth Castle has proudly joined only 10 other pubs and restaurants throughout the whole of the UK to achieve 3 stars or above in the ‘Organic Served Here’ awards scheme, run by The Soil Association.
It means that we are committed to offering between 50-75% organic produce on our menus.
With superb masterpieces on the menu inspired by British classics, every dish is a celebration to savour and enjoy.
Delicious high quality dining. Thank you
As usual, the Killingworth Castle did not disappoint. We had a few meals there pre-Covid and had a great experience every time. Their takeaway menu during lockdown was fantastic and we really looked forward to coming back for a meal. As usual, we had a fantastic time. Staff is lovely, food excellent and the atmosphere very warm and friendly. Spoiled to have this pub as one of our locals!
Amazing food and great service. Definitely my favourite place to eat now. Atmosphere rating no reflection on the venue, just freezing cold sitting outside!! Roll on the sunshine or the 17th May!
Nice food. Sadly due to restrictions we had to eat outside. It was a nice day but quite cold. The food as delicious but sadly went cold quickly as we were outside. Perhaps serving on hotter plates would help? Also there is an extreme focus on organic produce. This is commendable but I have to say that I was surprised to be offered an organic cola, which was ok but quite expensive. Next time as a driver I’ll stick with water
The team made us welcome. Made us amazing food. Made us happy. And hungry for more. Our first meet up with the family in 6 months and it was worth the wait. Food was first rate. Not cheap but worth every penny. Our picky kids ate every last morsel. That’s a review in itself. Thank you. Only come t would be the cost of the soft drinks was a little OTT especially when 4 of the six weren’t drinking. So maybe a soft drink pitcher would help keep everyone happy? We’ll be back.
Always love the Killingworth, we ate there yesterday unfortunately my sirloin of beef was very fatty couldn’t eat the majority of it - otherwise no complaints
Our initial interaction upon arrival was not warm and welcoming as we had expected and initially it wasn’t clear if we were to follow the person who after we said we had a table booked as they disappeared inside we put our masks on and followed thinking they were using a one way system and we had to get to the garden through the build only to be told very scathingly to go back outside. We very surprised there were no provisions for outdoor heaters or any shelter from the elements especially as showers were forecast for the day, not even any blankets were provided. Food was excellent and the Australian waitress that served us had a cheery smile all the way through and was very welcoming
We were a large party and were looked after very well!
We have an extremely pleasant stay at the Killingworth Castle. Such friendly staff and delicious food. The rooms are comfortable and spacious. We wouldn’t recommend more and will definitely come back!
I thought you did brilliantly given COVID regs. My one minor criticism is that all the tables outside need an umbrella of some sort. Fortunately we didn’t get rained on but it did really threaten and there was no Plan B. Otherwise a fabulous meal as always, I absolutely love coming to the Killingworth Castle and can’t wait for things to be back to normal.
Photogenic delicious food and friendly service, a table outside in the sunshine what's not to like, we have missed eating out. We will be back xx
Excellent Pub meal, much better than most!
The staff are always friendly and helpful, the service is great and the food is delicious. The atmosphere is nice and relaxed and the overall look and feel of the place is lovely.
The best vegetarian Sunday lunch outside my home! Even though we had to dine outside I appreciated that the smokers table was well away from the rest. The rest of my party who have an Instagram page called eat Berkshire agreed so I hope they start an eat Oxfordshire page😂 We will be back 🙏
I would definitely go back.
Food, location and setting was very good. However, the server was not very pleasant. As soon as we walked in she was very short, snappy and not very helpful. A shame.
We had a very nice afternoon and greatly enjoyed the delicious food.
Absolutely delicious food! High quality.
Had been looking forward to visiting but wasn’t very impressed. There were only 4 mains on the menu, none of which sounded very good. Also very overpriced. The dishes were small and too fussy. Kids menu was nice but also over priced. Wouldn’t recommend to be honest.
Asked could we move to a table in the sun was told they are reserved which is ok but the two tables in the sun remained empty for the duration of our time slot ? First course was the chicken parfait very bland and to soft served with a soft brioche bun it needed texture a crunch, main course we had the steak was asked how we like it but was told it either had to be medium rare or well done very strange options as we are told all the food is cooked from scratch?? But it was very nice but didn’t like having to pay extra for some potato and vegetables if it’s a three course meal then you should have potato and vegetables with it ? Dessert was a strawberry cheesecake that was very nice overall a mixed experience and a little pricey
I would expect more options on the menu. Fantastic starters, asparagus and chicken liver parfait! I will recommend them to my friends. Main courses though not so great. The Nut roast was dry and the chickpeas were very hard inside. They felt like dry nuts instead of soft chickpeas. Roast potatoes could have been much better. Overall the whole dish should not be priced £20 . You expect a great roast with that amount. Atmosphere was not something you can do anything about it now, COVID restrictions, tables spaced enough around the pub. Overall, I will visit again, hopefully the nut roast will improve.
Wonderful Sunday lunch... excellent service and weather .
