About The Kent Tapas Company (formerly The Bench)
The Bench is an exciting Wine & Tapas Bar in the the historic Courtyard @ Mersham Le Hatch serving up to 48 Wines by the Glass to compliment some of the finest Tapas Kent has to offer!
We had a lovely meal for our anniversary at The Bench and we would recommend anyone to book. We were going thinking that, as it was Tapas, the portions wouldn’t be that big, but we were really pleasantly surprised at how much food you got for your money. We were so full after! We were so full that we couldn’t manage a dessert, however after our meal the waiter brought out an amazing dessert board which read “Anniversary” in white chocolate with a yummy chocolate moose and strawberries included - and they had done it for us as a complimentary gift! We couldn’t have been happier with our meal - delicious food, lovely setting and amazing service. We will definitely be coming back soon and bringing our friends. Couldn’t recommend more!
Fantastic as usual. The best food and fantastic service
IWe came as a party of 6 for lunch, our waiter was amazing and made us feel very welcome. We had so much food it was almost a banquet and everything we had tasted fantastic. I love the nohitos too. I cannot recommend you highly enough. Can’t wait to come back.
Had the best evening here celebrating our friends surprise 30th. A lovely relaxed atmosphere. Picked an evening that was not to busy. The service was fantasic. Loved the banter with Ray and the young waiter didn't catch his name. They made our night with the laughs they gave us.The birthday sharing platter with sparkler was so much more than I was expecting. Really special. Will be back for sure. Thank you for everything.
Always great service and food at this place. Highly recommend this restaurant.
My first visit, two of our party had been before. A Quiet Sunday evening, restaurant not busy. Cannot fault the service or the food and drink. Loved it and will return for sure.
We had a very enjoyable evening with good, tasty food and excellent, friendly service.
A lovely atmosphere, continuity of staff with a great knowledge of their food and drink providing an excellent service. It was nice to be recognised as someone who’d been before, a more personal touch! Will definitely be going again!
Where was the chorizo, tortilla, morcilla etc. The bread and olives were of poor quality. The wine, ondarre, was superb, but there were fewer Spanish wines than I would have liked. The place was not Spanish enough...a few pictures would help. The staff tried hard.
A lovely birthday meal. We had the set banquet tapas menu. Great food and the service was spot on. The bartender made delicious 'mocktails' and the wine machine meant everyone could choose whatever wine they wanted.
Really lovely venue - we had Sunday roast in the courtyard, listening to live music. The service was great, the food was delicious and way more than we could eat, we’ll definitely go back.
Amazing food, great drinks and self service wine bar !
fantastic food, we have visited here a number of times and food is always great, although some of the dishes are rather expensive, for example four scallops for 12.95, I think it could benefit from having more offers and maybe some more advertising as a lot of people I speak to have never heard of it! but service and staff are always fantastic
Delicious food as always & excellent service
High quality food in a lovely setting, will visit again.
Nice venue, good service... very expensive for whats on offer!
Went for the Sunday carvery which was absolutely lovely and lots of it, and the pudding platter was equally delicious
I was really disappointed upon visiting the bench. We went for a family event having had my in-laws down for the weekend from northern ireland. Having been advised we would need a minimum of five dishes per person i was extremely disappointed to see that five dishes was far too excessive. We were rushed to our table as we were taking photos. What confused us, appeared to be clear that we were rushed as there was a table next to us also ordering at a similar time. I said to my partner, without customers there is no business, yet it appeared we were treated as a profit margin as oppose to a customer, being convenient if tables ordered at the same time, as oppose to being free to enjoy our evening. From the off-set it was clear we were not valued as customers, and for a venue i have positively spoken about and recommended i was furious as i treated my in-laws to what was on the whole a reallt poor evening. I was extremely disappointed and felt extremely let-down from a company i have previously expressed so much satisfication about.
I had the vegetarian roast dinner and was a bit disappointed I didn’t receive any gravy, this made the yorkshire pudding very hard to swallow because it was so dry. Also my husband had trouble with the board when he was cutting his meat kept swinging around, when did plates disappear?! The desserts were lovely.
Fantastic food, service, location and quality - our table of 7 found it faultless - can’t reccomend enough.
Serving spoons with the platters would be easier. Excellent choice of wines.
It’s really hard to eat out in Ashford as we have very limited choice here with mostly mediocre chain restaurants. I was somewhat concerned about coming here due to the mixed reviews. I am so, so glad we did. What a fantastic time we all had during our meal. I booked a table for 10 friends & we chose a set menu. The food was delicious with huge portions. As it’s tapas the food just kept coming & coming. The poppy bread, squid & the chicken breast were exceptional. Two diners were gluten free & one dairy free. Separate dishes were provided but still the same so we all ate the same. The desert bored was amazing! Great selection of gin, rum, wine etc... we booked another table for next month. Outside seating looks really good for a warm evening.
Brilliant location, excellent food and wonderfully helpful staff. I can’t recommend this restaurant more. Bravo.
We have visited several times previously for Tapas and love your food and restaurant. We came yesterday for the toast, I thought it was ok, but my husband and son weren’t over fussed. Food wasn’t particularly hot, loads of parsnips, but only a few potatoes, no serving spoons. Staff a little busy. Girl singing was good but a bit loud, we had trouble having a conversation. Will come back, but for tapas, not roast.
