About The Jews House Restaurant
Here at The Jews House Restaurant our aim is quite simple: To give you an experience you remember for it's great cooking and attentive service. Award winning Chef Gavin Aitkenhead and Samantha Tomkins have had the restaurant over twelve years. Housed in one of the oldest building in the beautiful and historic city of Lincoln. We are located at the bottom of Steep Hill. A stones throw from the Cathedral and Castle and convenience of the city center.
Gavin's philosophy on food is simple. "My aim as a chef is first and foremost about flavour, then we can get to work on the right balance of textures and cooking techniques. I am passionate about using the best suppliers whether a simple salad or a beautiful saddle of lamb."
The restaurant is over two floors, which is perfect for a romantic dinner for two or a private party with family and friends.
The perfect lunch. We couldn't have found a better way to celebrate a special anniversary.
The Jews House has a lot of history to tell and the building is well-preserved and appreciated especially the general public from the outside gladly taking photos. That sounds premium, however it doesn’t reflect on their staff and seem to have not bothered by time, considering only a handful of people, albeit max of 20, are allowed inside the restaurant with only 2 hours of service each dining timeframe, in our case from 12-14:00. Took a very long while to take our orders for dessert that we decided not to have it eventually, and took another long while for the bill to come to our table that we decided to take ourselves to the cash register so we can exit the premises as we had other plans for the rest of the afternoon. Quite disappointing and the staff are playing oblivious to the situation, not even a slight apologetic demeanour on their faces. The price is very similar to high-end restaurants in central London with a view of the skyscrapers, but it failed to manifest on the table. No wonder they only open at certain days of the month. I have since been planning to book a seat a couple of times but they were closed on those times I was free so I thought, it must be a very important restaurant in Lincoln to only open so rarely. I overestimated.
This was our second visit - excellent quality food and excellent service from staff. We like the unrushed intimate atmosphere of the upstairs dining room. We will definitely return the next time we are visiting Lincoln.
Fantastic food served by a very professional, courteous team
A fantastic evening, superb food and brilliant service. Many thanks
We came for the lunch menu after being turned away from eating at The Old Bakery in Lincoln after realising that we would be paying for the meal with a gift voucher. What a stoke of luck that was, otherwise we wouldn’t have come across the Jew house. The building, decor, and atmosphere is lovely and very civilised. The waiting staff very professional and attentive without being over bearing. The lunch menu seemed a very reasonable price. As soon as the first course came out we realised that the lunch menu was an amazing price for the standard and quality of food you receive. As a surprise treat the chef sent us out a beautiful coconut palate cleanser before desert. There is not a bad word I can say about the Jew House and I will be telling anyone that will listen about the experience and will be coming back for the evening taster menu, and can’t wait to either.
Superb tasting menu, good to sample the range of food. The service was great from start to finish. Would highly recommend.
Food was out of the world - had the tasting menu and couldn’t fault it. A perfect evening. Will definitely be back. Thank you for making the evening so enjoyable.
Great food, service and setting. The private dining area upstairs is perfect for large parties and the quality of the food and level of service is second to none.
Brilliant food, wine and hosts - a perfect evening.
My husband and I went to this restaurant because it had been awarded The Best Restaurant in Lincolnshire 2019. I think the competition couldn’t have been as high as one might have expected! Whilst the food and service were good there were disappointing aspects to the evening. Our reception was underwhelming, there was little atmosphere, the menu was small with little choice, especially of main dishes, and the quantity of food on the plate was meagre. We left without having dessert or coffee as we felt we were not enjoying the restaurant. It felt very much like a case of style over substance. The wine list was extensive but glasses of wine were unnecessarily expensive- on average about £12 per glass. We are only visiting Lincoln but if we lived here we would not be returning to The Jews House. We live in Cambridge and are used to a large range of restaurants and some are ‘expensive’, but are better value than this one.
Excellent service and food. Will definitely be back.
Excellent meal. Everything was too top. We loved it! Delicious food and great value for the quality. Service and cosy but smart atmosphere were spot on. Will definitely come again.
What an amazing evening at The Jews House. Sublime and moreover fascinating flavours within the food, amazing and unique wines all topped off with the most attentive and informative staff. What a truly gastronomic evening. The Jews House is an experience that should be enjoyed by many more. We will certainly return to this wonderful restaurant when time permits. Thank you one and all for such a fantastic evening.
Set lunch was just perfect and set us up for a lovely afternoon imbibing in Lincoln
Lovely host and fantastic food. Great service without being intrusive. Perfect.
A plethora of choice on both the food and wine menu. The food was impeccable along with the service. The atmosphere was relaxed and cosy. We both had a really lovely time and it was an anniversary well spent. We have already recommended it to our family.
Great setting, great food and excellent wines with lovely friendly service
Overrated and unexciting food, staid and uncomfortable atmosphere, insincere and stuffy service - no way near value for money. And I worked in Michelin Star restaurants in London for a decade so I know what I'm talking about.
Eating here was an absolute treat. The food was amazing and the service was superb. A special mention to the cheeseboard which was the best I’ve ever had even after numerous trips to France ! Attention to detail, ambience and clearly owners who take food seriously made this an experience not to be forgotten. It’s just a shame we don’t live in Lincoln ! We’ll be back.
Sensational restaurant. The owners are amazing and their high standards make the Jews house number 1 in Lincoln
We would like to say that we enjoyed our meal yesterday tremendously and feel that it was one of the best meals that we have had in Lincolnshire. We look forward to returning in the near future. Many thanks Excellent.
Slightly over priced for the food on offer. Service wasn’t great waited 15 mins before someone took a drinks order and it wasn’t busy. Booked for Valentine’s Day and nothing special just plastic hearts on table. The bronze pig is way ahead with its food and service so would prefer to go back there.
Came here for a birthday celebration and loved it! Fantastic service from the moment you walk in the door, lovely venue, delicious food and great value. We will be back. Definitely recommend!
Easy booking process, lovely Valentine’s set menu, great atmosphere and superb staff.
