About The Jews House Restaurant
Here at The Jews House Restaurant our aim is quite simple: To give you an experience you remember for it's great cooking and attentive service. Award winning Chef Gavin Aitkenhead and Samantha Tomkins have had the restaurant over ten years. Housed in one of the oldest building in the beautiful and historic city of Lincoln. We are located at the bottom of Steep Hill. A stones throw from the Cathedral and Castle and convenience of the city center.
Gavin's philosophy on food is simple. "My aim as a chef is first and foremost about flavour, then we can get to work on the right balance of textures and cooking techniques. I am passionate about using the best suppliers whether a simple salad or a beautiful saddle of lamb."
The restaurant is over two floors, which is perfect for a romantic dinner for two or a private party with family and friends.
A wonderful evening. Fantastic wine recommendations complemented a diverse and beautifully-prepared tasting menu. Many thanks.
Amazing food, every course looked beautiful and tasted delicious. We asked Sam to choose some wine for us ... all excellent. The staff are all so friendly and helpful and the service perfect. Thankyou for a wonderful evening!
Simply outstanding food and service once again from Sam, Gavin and the team. By quite a long way the very best place to eat in Lincoln - no discussion or argument, the best. One Michelin star grade
We enjoyed a superb lunch here at The Jews House. Each course was cooked to perfection, well presented and served to us by wonderfully attired and attentive staff.
The team were just back from holiday and very much on form. We enjoyed a varied lunch menu, resting on classics, with the honest intent of revealing the flavour of ingredients. An intent which was fully achieved. The fact that finish and presentation was also excellent completed a memorable food experience. I hope I managed to communicate as much to chef and kitchen team. Service is attentive but restrained. Our second visit. No reason to delay a third. Thank you.
It was a really lovely meal. The food was beautifully presented and tasted wonderful. We will definitely be returning next time we are in Lincoln. Thank you for making us feel so welcome.
We ordered the 6 course tasting menu - each course was beautifully cooked and presented and the flavours on each plate were perfect. Lovely atmosphere in the restaurant within a stunning building. The serving staff were beautifully dressed, knowledgeable and very attentive throughout the evening. We had a wonderful evening - thank you!
Delicious food. Thank you chef. 'Lunch for less' was very good value. Music was nice choice and unobtrusive. Building not suitable for persons of limited mobility due to its great age, but charmingly presented. Perhaps the history of the building could be explored a little more? Will definitely be back.
My husband really enjoyed his food. I was a bit disappointed with my starter and main, to be honest. My dessert was lovely though.
Exquisite menu - truly individual, beautifully served and food of the highest quality. An absolute delight! Surely worthy of a Michelin star. Lovely location on Lincoln’s Steep Hill - by far the best restaurant in the City.
Our first visit and it won't be the last I'm sure. Service is friendly and unobtrusive, just the right balance. Food was lovely (a little too much coriander in my dish, but that is down to personal preference and not the quality of the food or cooking), some interesting dishes on the menu (we had the Lunch for Less menu) and a really great wine list too. We really enjoyed our lunch and would certainly recommend to anyone visiting Lincoln.
Really great evening for our anniversary dinner. Food was great and waitresses were very friendly. I would have enjoyed the music to be slightly louder. Felt a bit awkward to have conversations as we were sat so close to other tables and it was fairly quiet. We waited a long time to get served for pudding (or it felt like a long time as we were excited perhaps..) so it could be improved by reducing waiting times. Other than that, we really enjoyed ourselves and left fuller than expected! Thanks
We had a lovely evening thank you, I can't stop thinking about the 48hr pork belly with the prawn and sorbet...We will be back!
A great lunchtime experience. Our second visit and we were not disappointed. Will certainly be returning maybe to try the a la carte dinner menu. Thank you.
Everything was excellent, from the welcoming to the end. Really professional and friendly staff, with extensive knowledge about food and wine. The food was simply delicious.
Lovely meal but only 5 people in hence low mark for atmosphere
Had a fabulous evening. We arrived earlier than we anticipated and it wasn’t a problem. The food was wonderful and beautifully presented. Lovely cosy atmosphere. Service very good but not too stuffy - just right. We weren’t rushed to leave once we’d finished which we really appreciated. Can’t wait to return.
We all had another exceptional evening at this restaurant chomping through the taster menu. The food was creative and challenging; non of us have ever had sorbet with pork before, but it somehow worked. What did not work quite so well was the lamb dish that was over-powered by the spices, loosing the lamb completely. But we can't get it right all of the time! That said, a great evening was had by my two guests and I.
Gorgeous food, beautifully presented and served - a pity we live so far away!
Booked for my parents to go for their 40th wedding anniversary, they were really helpful in arranging the surprise, let me prepay and happily moved the booking when there was a change of plan. My parents loved the tasting menu and have been chatting about it to anyone who will listen. They said they would definitely go back
Great food as always! The quality is brilliant. Service attentive but not too much. Good value for money and good choice for the lunch menu.
From sorting out my booking to delivering a lovely lunch Gavin, Samantha and the Team exceeded mine and my guests expectations and in my opinion provide the best restaurant experience in Lincoln
WOW great food in a great setting only a small number of tables so you are well looked after and the food is prepared and cooked in a unrushed atomosphere. All leads to a very good evening
We love visiting the Jews House. Great food, great service and great advice on wines
