Theion is an exciting addition to the Guildford restaurant scene, specialising in modern Greek/Mediterranean cuisine.
Venue: The building has always been one of the best eating venues in Guildford and that still remains the case after a few subtle changes by the Theion team. Nothing else like it in the town. Atmosphere: It felt lively and upbeat with a good mix of couples and groups. The only downside of our experience was that it was cold. My wife had to put her scarf on and I was very glad to be wearing a jumper over a shirt. The bottle of red wine that we ordered was also a little cold which was reflective of the temperature of the room Service: Our service was excellent. We had the same waitress all night who explained that she had only been working at the venue for 5 weeks. She was friendly, attentive, and an asset to the business. Food: There is a good variety of dishes with something to cater for all tastes. Our food was cooked well. We had starters and mains and both were tasty. I ordered the beef dish for main and the portion size was extremely small. This was okay as I had a starter and some flat breads to begin filling me up beforehand. Had I just ordered a main course then I would have felt hard done by and not very fulfilled. My wife had the lamb kleftiko which looked more substantial and she really enjoyed it. The table bedside us also ordered the lamb kleftiko and had to send it back as it was not cold. Value: It's not a cheap place to eat but not 'fall off the seat' expensive. It will probably attract comments from people complaining about the price and silence from others who are happy to pay a little more for quality. While I would put myself in the latter group of being happy to pay a little more I did feel that the beef dish at £18.50 did not represent great value for money. I think the restaurant is a good addition to chapel street and Guildford. With a few minor tweeks it could be a real force in the area. We will be back.
Lovely food and staff 😊
Food was very tasty. Service was quite slow and we had to keep asking for water and then the bill as she kept forgetting. Portions were very large and could have been smaller. Would have liked some veg with the main meals
A lovely evening which we all enjoyed. It would be great if you could add taramasalata and pitta bread to your menu!
An all round good eating experience
So this is proper Greek food! Lovely place, lovely people, so good to have somewhere a bit different to go in Guildford.
Fantastic service and food will go back again
What a great addition to the Guildford restaurant scene. Knowledgeable staff, fabulous atmosphere and one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. I was recommended to try the paper baked lamb and it did not disappoint. My only observation being a Baklava fan would be to say that it was a “deconstructed” version, but was absolutely delicious. Haven’t come away from a restaurant ranting about it for days afterwards to friends and family, so let’s hope this independent restaurant is here to stay!
The food was great as always. Very authentic but original at the same time. Lovely restaurant and the friends who joined us would definitely go again too
Amazing food and service! From the minute you step in the restaurant is like entering Greek ground. Atmosphere, tastes, everything feels like being on a Greek island. Wonderful experience, especially for people who love traditional greek cuisine or want to try something new!
Atmosphere excellent, staff excellent and food excellent. Will definitely book again soon.
Cannot fault the food or service, both were excellent. The only, small, criticism I can make is that I felt a little cold, which was probably due to the fact that the restaurant was not full and covers quite a big area. Other than that, we had a lovely evening and will definitely return.
A great experience
Would be nice to add a dairy free option to desserts. The Lamb Keftiko was amazing.
Fantastic meal with really tasty food. Wine was a little expensive but we enjoyed trying something different. Will definitely book again.
Service could have been a bit more attentive. WE had to wait over 20 mins before we got any drinks on arrival; we were waiting for extra people in the party to arrive, but no one came to see if we wanted anything whilst waiting. We were given dessert menus then no one came back to take the order for a long time. Plenty of staff around, but they could have done better, Nice place, though - would come back.
Great menu and superb food. Best Kleftiko ever!
Lovely restaurant and food.
Great food. Lovely atmosphere.
We loved the place, food and service!
Good friendly service and innovative menu
Really like Theion. It’s the second time we have been and we will go back for sure. 2 constructive bits of feedback. The atmosphere is good but could be great by lowering the lighting and putting some candles on the tables. While I understand that this is a truly authentic Greek restaurant. The menu could be slightly larger and a few dishes associated with Greek speaking countries. As a half Greek I understand the offering but just my feedback to expand the menu slightly
Absolutely loved the food, the cocktails were great and the setting and service were lovely. Truly a great addition to Guildford!
I lived in Greece for 10 years when I was younger and was excited about coming to this restaurant, unfortunately I was really disappointed. I had the meatballs to start and the Kelftico (which was such a let down) for main. The latter, billed as the best seller, was served to me in a paper bag (fine), with about five pieces of meat and a potato chopped into four. The dish came with loads of sauce but unlike most Greek restaurants, bread wasn't given to you so I had to buy some bread just to fill up on my main. Both dishes were cooked ok, but where were the Greek flavours, lemon, salt, Rigani, dill? They've tried to be trendy, but have missed the mark entirely in my opinion. If I was blindfolded I wouldn't have known it was a Greek restaurant.
