About The Idle Rocks
The Idle Rocks is located on the Roseland Peninsula in the heart of St Mawes, an idyllic spot voted as the best seaside town in the UK.
Anchoring St Mawes’ reputation as a desirable Cornish location, this small hotel is considered one of the region’s top luxury British retreats.
The hotel restaurant, led by ex Le Manoir chef Dorian Janmaat, focuses on locally sourced produce with flavour, texture and presentation being integral to all dishes.
Dorian and his team have designed a menu around stories brought to fruition through carefully developed relationships with local suppliers, fishermen and farmers.
It's a true celebration of Cornwall and offers an unforgettable culinary journey, with strong emphasis on seasonal flavours, keeping true to our sustainability ethos.
The Restaurant is open 7 days a week for lunch & dinner, with dining on the terrace during the Spring & Summer months.
We offer a welcoming and lively atmosphere, with music playing, guests chattering, cocktails being created and a fantastic wine list to mull over and enjoy.

A truly memorable meal. The twice cooked crab soufflé was one of the best things I have ever eaten !
Amazing food, beautiful setting and location. Service professional, friendly and welcoming. Will definitely be returning when next in the area.
One the best dining experiences I have had in recent years, thank you.
Wonderful lunch, great food & service in a stunning location.
Fantastic food on the gorgeous terrace. What a lovely lunchtime we had. Weather just came good in time too. Amazing food , presented beautifully. Thanks so much. Ps The water pistols to shoo away the seagulls are on order again apparently and they’re needed. !!!
Everything wonderful Our favourite place for lunch Food, service and the view so pleased to be back
Delicious and creative food, wonderful setting, and friendly, attentive service. A truly memorable experience.
Incredible lunch on the terrace. The food was some of the very best I've had at any top restaurant and the service was excellent, attentive but not intrusive. Michelin worthy without doubt & look forward to visiting again soon.
Stunning food and great service. Would have liked to see a chocolate dessert option but that’s just a personal preference. Already booked to dine again
Perfect location with stunning harbour view, wonderful menu that happily makes choosing difficult, excellent beautifully timed service and really exceptional dishes that are truly also art on plates and most wonderful flavours and perfect portions too, thank you all so much, we can hardly wait to dine with you again.
The food was delicious. Particularly liked the Cornish Bellini and new chocolates. Service was charming and attentive. Thoroughly enjoyed the lunch despite the hail.
Very enjoyable experience despite the cool temperature.
Thoroughly enjoyable lunchtime spent dining on the terrace of the Idle Rocks. The food, setting and service were all impeccable. Highly recommended
Excellent food and service - lunch on terrace opening day following LD. Highly recommend.
We had an excellent lunch, and superb service. When the hail descended ,you looked after us.
The whole experience from start to finish was excellent. The food was amazing, service professional, relaxed and friendly and the extra effort made to compensate for the ‘circumstances’ was heartwarming.....blankets and hot water bottles! Thanks to all the team.
Fabulous!!! What a glorious lunch on first day reopened. Thank you.Back soon.
A lovely meal with great staff
We booked lunch for the re-opening day and so glad we made the reservation. The welcome in this Covid era was handled professionally and the waiting staff attentive but not overbearing which is what we like. The food was amazing - standout dish was the Cornish crab soufflé but every dish was a knockout. Thanks to all x
Wonderful location, fabulous service and stunning food. A superb birthday treat on 23rd Dec without a mention of Christmas - fantastic!
Really lovely food. Great service - all very calm, quietly attentive and friendly. Sad to see that you will close now until Feb!! All the best. We'll be back. We are 40 minutes away so this will be a regular. Thank you.
We came for a family dinner on Christmas Eve. The welcome we received was wonderful. Just a couple of points for you all to reflect on..... I love beetroot - but not in three of the courses! We had ordered a bottle of good white wine and a pretty decent bottle of red, just slightly surprised to find the waiter decanting it when we had drunk half of it - hopefully not normal practice. He had served it to us so knew we had had drunk half of it. The whole service was rather hurried, plates cleared before one of us had finished eating....I know we are living in unsettled times but there was no reason to rush us through the evening. Little things like us having to ask for water shouldn't happen at Relais and Chateaux standard hotels.
