About The Idle Rocks
Recently voted as ‘Best Hotel Restaurant’ & 'Best Chef' in the Cornwall Life Food & Drink Awards, as well as 'Best Restaurant' in the prestigious Trencherman's Awards.
Head Chef Dorian Janmaat and his team have designed a menu around stories brought to fruition through carefully developed relationships with local suppliers, fishermen and farmers. It's a true celebration of Cornwall and offers an unforgettable culinary journey, with strong emphasis on seasonal flavours, keeping true to our sustainability ethos.
The Restaurant is open 7 days a week, with dining on the terrace when the sun shines. We offer a welcoming and lively atmosphere, with music playing, guests chattering, cocktails being created and a fantastic wine list to mull over and enjoy.
Best scones ever tasted with a cream tea. Customer service poor, waited for 30 minutes and then had to search for further service. No hot water served with tea (usually provided at other establishments) and was then charged extra for an additional pot of tea. At £15 a head this extra charge ruined the enjoyment of the occasion.
Lunched here on the terrace on a glorious September day when there is no where better in the world than The Idle Rocks! Great food, great location and superlative service. We will return!
Beautiful setting, lovely hotel and restaurant. Very relaxing and helpful professional staff
Fantastic meal last table outside , Very special evening
Excellent meal. Lovely staff
The magnificent location and terrace dining area provided an excellent venue for our lunch. The staff were attentive (but not overpowering) and, of course, the wonderful weather added to the whole experience. At every turn, Reception, table service, maitre D', the welcome was warm and friendly. An absolute joy.
Beautiful lunch served on the terrace. Service attentive and food superb.
One of the highlights of St Mawes
We were so looking forward to staying at Idle Rock, first visit to Cornwall for us and we had been told the hotel was a treat. Absolutely not wrong, the hotel has completely lived up to our hopes and expectations
From the moment we stepped in to the restaurant we were treated as if we were the only guests there. An excellent experience, great location and fabulous food, the staff dressed immaculately, polite and very efficient. The food dishes not only complimented themselves, looked like a piece of art but tasted amazing. An experience that will never be forgotten. Thank you all at Idle Rocks.
Excellent meal. Disappointed in that there were no oysters, especially since I had requested on booking!
We stayed here for on our honeymoon and it was absolutely fantastic. The staff went above and voting for us and helped to make our stay so special the room, the food, the atmosphere and as fabulous.
Refurbishment is great
Great food service and location. Special shout out to Harry who remembered me from my visits last summer.
Amazing venue both my wife & I throughly enjoyed the whole experience of having our meal on the terrace with the incredible views. The food wine & service was excellent
The food was a visionary delight and tasted wonderful. Waiting staff where cheerful, engaged and professional. The outside terrace was a beautiful spot to while away the hours on a sunny day (or otherwise) and everything about Idle Rocks rocked!
We booked cream tea for three people - one was a gluten free, which was confirmed during the reservation. No gluten free supplied though and the scones were truly the worst - probably a packet mix, and made a couple of days before. They were hard and biscuity and decided best use for them was as skimming stones down on the water. Bill was close to £60 with 1 small glass of average Provence rose. We complained, paid and left. No compensation offered, only several sorries. I called the manager later and he did the right thing which was to void the payment. Its a lovely location but if you're serving cream tea in Cornwall and charging £15/head for it, it needs to be Mary Berry standard.
Excellent food. Great staff
We had a Gin and tonic on the terrace in the warm sunshine, and moved indoors as the evening grew cooler for our wonderful supper. The crab bisque and petit fours were sublime..Hope you get your Michelin Star soon.
A great team work at the Idle Rocks Friendly, happy and proffesional. A delicious afternoon tea We also had lunch in the restaurant last Friday and once again couldn't fault the food, flavours and presentation. Just love catching up with all those who work at the hotel in every department / role they have
My wife and I had the most fantastic lunch out on the terrace where the staff were most attentive and although we did not catch any names, everybody was so friendly and welcoming to us while we celebrated our wedding anniversary with them. We will most surely be back!
An amazing experience to stay, eat & enjoy the whole environment of this lovely hotel & the views of the bay, stunning
A totally excellent experience. Our first trip to the the Idle Rocks for a meal and couldn't fault anything. Even the weather behaved itself so we were able to dine al fresco. We will return.
fabulous setting very friendly and welcoming team - if anything the menu might be a little more adventurous
