About The Horse and Jockey
We are located just a few minutes drive from Bedford, in the friendly village of Ravensden. Come along just for a drink and choose from our extensive list of beers, wines and particularly Gins(!) or sit down for some food. The kitchen produces fresh dishes and our passion for country living influences every element of the ever-changing menu.
Open 6 days a week
Relaxed and friendly
Plenty of fresh fish on the menu - overnight from Cornwall
another lovely lunch
Having heard good reports from friends, four ladies decided to visit. My first visit for over 20 years. What a change! Impressed with modern, smart decoration. Friendly staff, very busy for a lunchtime. Had the set menu which was absolutely delicious. Prawn cocktail was enhanced by the sun dried tomato, giving a nice twist. Battered monkfish was gorgeous, with homemade pea puree and homemade tartar sauce, nice combination. The 'burnt' lemon tart was scrummy, with a crunchy sugar topping. Really enjoyed the food and ambience. Only drawback was the room echoed, and it was difficult to hear conversation at the table, as busy, surrounding tables could be heard. Not sure how you overcome this. However, this will not stop us returning.
Up to the usual high standard It never disappoints
Excellent meal, service and surroundings. Decent price.
Good service, friendly staff, nice ambience.
A Busy lunch time and stilly a lovely lunch. Plenty to choose from on the varied menu's including a specials menu. The Horse and Jockey never disappoints.
Delicious food & excellent service from the staff

Excellent as always. Really enjoyed our evening. Well done to everyone.
The portions Well cooked Excellent Will defo return
The quality & presentation of food was excellent. The food was delicious- the summer pudding (one of my favourite summer desserts) was the best I have ever tasted! The service was friendly & efficient. We asked if we could move tables to a quieter area of the restaurant, away from a large group party & this was done straight away with no fuss. We would highly recommend the Horse & Jockey & hope to return again soon.
It was very hot in the restaurant and a few houseflies were buzzing round the table apart from that food great as usual.
21 for a special birthday . More than well looked after and staff were brilliant . Food excellent as usual . Couldn't recommend it any higher . Absolutely faultless . Thank .youbs
Very nice venue and friendly staff, food a bit pricey but not outrageous. Main gripe would be our main courses being served before the plates from the first course were taken away, we weren't the only table to have this.
The four of us all had an absolutely splendid lunch . Many thanks to your waiting staff and the chefs. The Horse and Jockey is so hard to beat .
Excellent food, service and a delightful venue. The owner delightful. Will be happy to return often
I walked to the Horse and Jockey across the fields from north Bedford with some work colleagues for a team building event. The lunch at Horse and Jockey was fantastic - we started with a few drinks and a chat around the bar, followed by some great food at the table including options from a vegan menu that they’d kindly created for us. Highly recommended.
Excellent food, helpful service, nothing too much trouble.
Excellent food served by very courteous staff in an attractive setting
great place , lovely host , excellent food
Excellent food in a nice atmosphere. Service was friendly and efficient without being intrusive.
Brilliant as I am Coeliac
Sadly, we were plagued by blow flies - at least 6 and a wasp during the meal which was a little disappointing and perhaps something that needs addressing for the future.
Exactly as I have come to expect at the Horse and Jockey, great as always.
