About The Holly Bush Witney
Owned and run by two local chaps who both share a passion for beer, wine, good food and excellent service.
Fresh produce sourced from local farms in and around Oxfordshire and the Cotswolds, fish and seafood from Brixham, beer and wine from local merchants.
I booked the table online and arrived to find that there wasn’t a booking for us. The waitress did however honour the booking as I had a confirmation email. She knew we were there to eat and said she would bring us menus yet disappeared for 20 - 30 minutes. We could see her standing around with the other staff members not actually doing anything as the pub wasn’t busy at that time. We eventually asked another waitress if we needed to go to the bar to order. She seemed surprised that we were there to eat. We got menus soon after, but no apology for the unnecessary wait. The long and short of it is that the food was very good but the staff attitude was awful. The only staff member who was polite and interested in customer service was a waitress called Erin who seemed to take over from the original waitress. Thank you Erin!
Lovely as always!
Hi, I had a great time at your establishment. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves and thought the food was brilliant. I’m glad I ordered for the number I did for the buffet as I don’t think there was anyone that just had one plate. They kept going back up for more. The staff on that night were incredibly helpful and came in at the end of the night to see if I needed anything and asked how it went etc. Brilliant venue. I’d have another party there for sure. Service by both waiters was absolutely fantastic. They were very funny and welcoming and made the meal very memorable. The quality of the food itself was fantastic. The large tapas style menu allowed my partner to have a smaller portion but with good variation. The specials offered a great choice on top of the regular menu and the pheasant in particular was out of this world. The quality of the food as a whole was fantastic and I’d rate the Holly Hush very highly indeed
We had a lovely meal but the atmosphere was ruined for us. Halfway through our meal a group of tipsy teenagers seated themselves at the table next to us with bottles of wine in hand. It was a table designed for 4 people but there was 6 of them so they pulled extra chairs from other tables and my mother ended up shoulder to shoulder with one of the boys and I had to ask two if the girls to get up so I could get out of the booth. Perhaps consider having a drinking area separate from your dining area? We liked the food and the service but we won’t be rushing back as we felt quite uncomfortable and rushed to leave.
Had a really lovely Sunday lunch. Thank you!
Great Sunday Roast! Roast beef was amazing!
Great atmosphere, lovely knowledgeable staff who couldn’t do enough for us! Thanks for a great lunch!
Burger buddies are great value for money!
A busy Mother's Day luncheon for our first visit. Great experience.
I would definitely try the hollybush again, food was very good, staff we're friendly & always around to help.
Good atmosphere and food.
Staff were really friendly and attentive. We arrived half an hour earlier than planned and were taken straight to our table. Everyone enjoyed the food - the roasts looked particularly good! The only comment I have is that the beef burger was a bit dense and not exactly pink.
Disappointed that the Camembert we ordered was the usual £3 brand we buy from Sainsbury’s. we all know you buy bulk and cheaply but if you could hide that would be better! Pie was good but was barely filled and for £16 you need to fill it.
Brilliant service, food was delish.
Another wonderful Sunday lunch with the best Bloody Mary in the whole of West Oxfordshire. Food is always perfect, the staff utterly charming and efficient.
We booked the Barn function room for our little boys 1st birthday party. From start to finish - Alex and all the team were fantastic! They were attentive, considerate, relaxed, and overall professional. They did everything we needed and wanted, but also allowed us to just enjoy having the Barn as a private area for our family party! The pub itself has a lovely atmosphere and the bar staff were great! Overall Alex was a brilliant host and we would definitely recommend the Hollybush!
We ate here for a friends 40th Birthday. The service from the minute we set foot inside was attentive but not overbearing. The atmosphere was lovely. Really chilled but busy at the same time. Lots of little intimate dining areas and didn’t feel crowded. The food was fantastic. The men in the group did the classic ask of ‘no fuss’ burgers (which was named something else at the time of ordering). May have upset the chef slightly but it was all taken in good grace. The cocktail we had was amazing. The bar staff were very knowledgable about their products as were the waiting staff about the menu. The wine was lovely, and I’m assuming the men enjoyed their Guinness and lager too. All in all very enjoyable. It’s a little more expensive than I would normally pay for a meal out, but it was a special occasion, and to be honest, even my husband said that the food and service was perfect.... being a fussy ‘plain food’ man, that was a winner in my eyes. Definitely worth it for a treat.
Lovely food as usual. Fantastic service and friendly staff
Lovely evening, delicious food as usual, will be back soon :)
Great food as always, friendly and welcoming staff, highly recommend
Great atmosphere, really buzzing but not so loud you can’t hear your fellow diners. Polite and friendly staff, good food - varied menu, great puddings! Perfect for a get-together with friends.
Very accommodating to our large group and catered for a special diet. Great service and attention by a very friendly staff member. Food all lovely!
Came for burger buddies and very impressed with the food, the staff and the price :)
