About The Hollows
At the Hollows is an eatery, situated in the suburb of Hoole just outside of Chester. Hosting a unique dining experience in a relaxed atmosphere. The concept is really about bringing the social aspect back to dining, with everyone so busy these days, people do not often get the time to sit around the table, enjoy a glass of wine and fine food. We want people to come to us, sit down, relax and catch up with family and friends whilst browsing through our menu and ordering a variety of small plates to taste and share, whilst embraced in stimulating conversation, so come on and book with us.
Amazing Roast just could do with a few starter options:)
This was a "one off" visit because we were in the area. It was a pleasant surprise to find such a good meal in a corner of Chester that I don't know . I must praise the Yorkshire pudding -I haven't had one that tasted so good since my mother died. We left feeling very well fed and content
Friendly, modern and unique atmosphere. Fantastic selection of theatrical cocktails as well as the classic's and the food portions were huge. Will definatly be back.
Not a fan of the new menu.. still some great small plates on there but seems to have gone quite American e.g Wings, fried chicken. Used to love the small fish/veggie dishes too but lots of them have gone and been replaced with large dishes like burgers etc. A shame really as I loved the old menu! Also the guy serving us was great, but there was only him and one other girl so service was very slow.. had to wait ages for someone to take our order and every time we needed something we had to try and track someone down! Dissapointing and probably won't be back in a hurry anymore.
Fantastic Sunday lunch in pleasant surroundings with great service. Real value for money too, will think twice about switching the oven on in future. Thank you!! Carmel
We arrived at 5 and the restaurant was very cold. This may be as we were first in but our whole party were freezing!
We had a fun relaxed evening. Good food and drink.
We have dined at At the Hollows before, and we were a little disappointed on this visit, given how fantastic it was when we visited last year around the same time - the bar was set very high. The food was good and we felt it was good value for money, but it wasn't to the standard that it was last time - for example, there were no oysters available, the pigeon was overcooked, the batter was too heavy on the broccoli, the pork belly was not crisp, the sea bass was lukewarm. All very minor things, but we just felt that everything was spot on last time. The waiter we had last time was very knowledgeable about wine and seemed very passionate, but we didn't have that this time. The lady who served us was really friendly and helpful, but not particularly attentive, and she didn't really have the spark that the gentleman we saw last time had. Perhaps if we hadn't been before, we would have had a different experience. As I say, the food was good and good value for money - it just didn't meet the expectations we had following our previous visit.
We are vegetarians and had 6 of the tapas dishes and loved them all! Can't wait to come back and try the rest!! They even served our favourite gluten free beer, staff were lovely too.
Vu du du
We waited forty minutes before we got a drink. There seemed to be no staff the two working were rushed off there feet. Consequently we waited ages for a drink and even longer for our food. I've been to hollows many times this visit was by far the worst .
Service can be slow - had to ask for drinks and for plates to be cleared so we could have dessert before our lift arrived
I visited at the hollows with my partner and could not fault the food. It was amazing, initially we were worried that the tapas style would be small and leave us hungry but this was quite the opposite. The portions were generous and we were so full. The only thing I would criticise the restaurant for and it's a comment ive heard from a few of my friends, is that the gentleman who runs the restaurant seems disinterested and sometimes rude. It appeared that because we were a couple and not a large group of girls, we weren't worth having our dishes explained to or asked if we wanted any more drinks. Plus when we asked where our last dish was, we had quite a rude response. I would have perfectly understood if it was explained that everything it's cooked fresh so comes and different times. The poor waiter did not seemed to be helped by the owner either. It's a real shame, as perhaps if he put the same effort into the couples as the women, he might realise we could bring a large group of our friends back, especially as we often drink in the bar next door. Having said all this, I may have caught the owner on a bad day and I can not fault the food at all!
Great meal...as always!
I attended as part of a large group Christmas party. I found the service was brilliant. The food was delicious and plentiful. The atmosphere and the attention we were given was second to none. Thank you for a very enjoyable evening.
Food was amazing, music a little loud, ice cream served on a slate doesn't work
Fantastic food as always & impeccable service. Will be back in January for my belated family birthday meal x
The food was delicious but for a tapas style restaurant, we waited over 90 mins for any food and then everything came out together.
We came from south Wales to join up with a friend from Chester, from the moment we were seated to the moment we left the service was impeccable, the food was delicious and so much of it and the price was a steal, we will all definitely recommend the hollows and will return for another enjoyable evening, thank you so much to all the staff at the hollows for a great cuisine experience
Let me start with the food first….exceptional. Tasty and plentiful. However, the collective experience of our group (17 people) was disappointing. Having drinks included in the price is a great idea, however as we’d travelled from all over the North West some were driving, so wanted a soft drink instead of a glass of wine or the cocktail……it would’ve been easier getting blood from a stone! One colleague waited in excess of an hour for a coke. Now, due to us having to leave by 21:30 (and we aren’t sure why as there wasn’t exactly a queue of people trying to get in) we didn’t receive dessert….! We were compensated with some cocktails but not everyone wanted another alcoholic drink, and as it was past our table curfew some people had actually departed. This isn’t the first time this has happened to us either, we came in July for a leaving party and were left dessertless and overcharged, that time a round of drinks was added from people in the bar next door and some food from another table. Again, let me make it clear that the food on this occasion was fabulous. As the party organiser I’d also requested to pay the full amount of the food bill, plus five bottles of house wine before we sat down (always saves on discussion at the end and something I’d discussed with our waitress, Rebecca twice over the phone in the days prior to coming), however having asked several times we still didn’t receive the bill! When the bill did arrive at the end of the night it was about £150 over the actual price we were due to pay! As the designated organiser it was left to me to sort and it took that long I missed my last train out of Liverpool meaning a £20 cab ride was needed!! Now let’s consider how I paid my deposit, another struggle! Firstly, trying to ring the restaurant was an issue as the mailbox on your answering machine is full! So I decided to pop down with the cash….restaurant closed, I should’ve checked on line, so popped to the Suburbs, they couldn’t take my money as the chap didn’t know how to process the transaction! He promised me Rebecca would receive a message and call me but that never happened. I then resorted to messaging on Facebook, and eventually got a response confirming my five bottles of wine which I’d asked to be added and instructions on how to pay. Multiple calls in to the restaurant went unanswered, but eventually got through to a chap who yet again couldn’t take my money off me as he didn’t know how! I eventually got in touch with Rebecca 24 hours before we were due to dine and she took my money! Your food is excellent, however the experience isn’t….. This feedback will be replicated within Trip Advisor. Thanks, I look forward to your reply/comments. Craig
The wait to order and then for food to arrive was excessive. For a tapas restaurant to not walk out until 2 hours after you enter is too long. Food arrived 75mins after we first sat down. Food was greasy, not as described on the menu and the bill was not correct. We ordered a second drunk that took 20 mins to arrive. Very poor experience in a lovely environment. Very disappointed.
The restaurant was slightly on the cool side of comfortable. Apart from that everything else was first class.
Fourth visit to this lovely restaurant - the fourth time it has been brilliant!!
