About The Hollow Bottom
Gloucestershire's Premier Racing Pub
Welcome to the latest addition of The Lucky Onion Family:
fun to be back
Loved the atmosphere. Well looked after by friendly professional staff. We were all fairly disappointed with the quality of the food. My risotto was overcooked. When asked how my meal was I politely explained that it was so little dry and under seasoned. On reflection, overcooked. It was dealt with very professionally. I didn’t ask for it to be taken off the bill as we felt these were teething issues reopening after lockdown. The manager did take it off the bill and apologised. We were impressed with the customer service and left a decent tip as a result.
Lovely decor, very welcoming staff, brilliant fish and chips with proper mushy peas! Can you please put the pie back on the menu? And make NZ Sauvignon available by the glass!
We had an excellent meal with great service
Our last night out before lockdown so the pub was empty understandably. I can’t evaluate atmosphere but the food was great, I had ham egg and chips and it was fantastic. The service was excellent and the young lady who looked after us could not have been more pleasant and helpful. We were discussing the immediate future for pubs and of course only 2 days later they have been asked to shut! We will certainly be back once things return to normal and in the meantime wish all concerned good health and good luck through the hard times ahead 🙏🏼
Dinner in the marquee was lovely
Beautifully quiet. Fantastic food. School dinner deserts which went down a storm with all of us. We will definitely be back.
Food was absolutely delish (I had the pie!) along with a lovely red wine. Kind, friendly waiters
Great afternoon and celebrated my partners birthday also whilst there! A very enjoyable day. Great marquee and fun day. Will books again for next year! Thank you
Disappointed that there were no roast dinners left on a Sunday at half 4 being as we had booked well in advance.
Have eaten at the Hollow Bottom for more than 15 years during all Cheltenham race meetings...usually every evening, we were more than disappointed.. Such a shock and change this year. Upon ordering a drink on our 1st night we were served our drinks , vodkas, gins and pint in PAPER and PLASTIC glasses !!! I requested glass ones and was told they might have 1 or 2 available !! Quite odd when the pub was almost empty!!. Our meal the first night was ok..apart from only finding 2 small pieces of fish in the fish pie. Service was slow again odd when marquee almost empty. On a plus our chicken pate was very good. Having booked again for Friday and having given a credit card to secure booking which a cancellation fee was to be taken should we cancel we took up this booking. Again drinks served in plastic glasses and a vodka coke served in a plastic pint glass !! Still the same very limited menu with only 4 main course options 1 of which was subject to a surcharge of £5 !! The burger on the first evening had 3 onion rings to which there was only 1 last night. We ordered 1 pudding which after 25 mins had not arrived when there must have been at least 10 staff members chatting and playing with a young baby who was toddling around. We left without the pudding and did not pay for it obviously. Not sure what has happened to this once buzzing establishment. No atmosphere, and what can only be described as an empty shell. I think some care and attention ought to be given should you hope to retain any business. I can assure you we won't be rushing back !
Fabulous place to have pre-race breakfast. The marquee set up was amazing; coupled with great food and service which was excellent. The return coach was definitely worth the extra, making arrival and departure at the course stress free. We’ll be back next year!
Disappointed we were in a tent, we love the atmosphere in the pub prior to Cheltenham but the tent is not the same. Also limited beer choice in there. I also thought it was strange to have taken a £16/deposit for a £13 breakfast? We’ve been there for the last 5 years or so but won’t be going again to sit in a tent !! ☹️
Great pub in a great setting, staff helpful friendly couldn’t fault the place.
The set up the marque was completely without atmosphere and cold we had to ask for the heating to be put on and it was not obvious at booking online that we would not be in the pub restaurant
Superb staff thank you for looking after us so well!
An absolutely fabulous place to drink and dine with such friendly and helpful staff Best place around !! Jenny Grace and Felix and all the staff are amazing many thanks!! Karl and Pete x
Another lovely meal at the Hollow Bottom. Great food and excellent service. Staff were all really welcoming and friendly. We will be back soon!
Food was fantastic and staff were very attentive and knowledgable. Really enjoyed our first visit.
Really amazing meal. Staff so friendly our second trip and will definitely be back. Can’t recommend it enough
I chose the vegetarian burger, at first i was hesitant as I've never had a 'great' vegetarian burger but there really wasn't much choice in terms of 'vegetarian' which is the only negative, however i must say i still dream about the vegetarian burger. It was by far the best vegetarian burger I've ever had! The service was attentive and very friendly. I thoroughly enjoyed lunch at the Hollow Bottom.
A fabulous night, a charity quiz and supper with friends made for a terrific Thursday evening. Staff are absolutely brilliant and nothing is too much trouble.
Very good pleasant staff and lovely fresh well cooked food. My daughter in law had requested a surprise small dessert to be made for my husbands birthday. To our great surprise they had made a huge dessert for us. So very nice of them and a lovely surprise. Thank you.
