About The Hollow Bottom
Gloucestershire's Premier Racing Pub
Welcome to the latest addition of The Lucky Onion Family:
Not sure about the pie. Had it twice now - the venison is lovely, but the pastry is quite thick and pasty? Doesn't seem to be a butter pastry? It would also be really good if the chips were from fresh and not frozen as befits a good quality restaurant. Staff good as always
Fabulous curry evening! Really well prepared and presented food. Balanced & delicious this set menu was excellent value and thoroughly enjoyed by all our table. Convivial atmosphere and friendly service too. We will be back!
We went for the Wednesday night curry menu At £15 for poppadoms, Onion Bhaji, rice and Chicken Tikka Masala it was super tasty and great value. The pint of real ale set it all off beautifully
We were welcomed and our waitress was very attentive and dealt with everything with a smile. The menu was good however be aware with most of the mains you have to buy the sides separately. My partridge dish came out cold, they happily remade it and it was delicious the only downside is we had to eat at different times.
Pub was great, food was good, location was a bit remote
We had been really looking forward to visiting the Hollow Bottom after hearing such good things and being racings fans. We never normally complain about anything, but the food was SO bad, we were actually really loathed to pay a penny for it! I had the nut roast and my partner has the beef. Our potatoes were hard, food cold, yorkshires burnt on top and underdone on the bottom, and the sides of veg and cauliflower also cold. The nut roast not only looked unappealing (like chunky cat food!) but was also bland and cold. The staff didn't charge us for the food in the end, and were very apologetic, but it was still disappointing after coming such a long way. The other thing that I found very concerning was that children were allowed to run around between guests dining. I think most guests would find this irritating anyway, but in the middle of a global pandemic it was ridiculous! What is the point in staff and guests having to wear masks to walk anywhere in the building if children are allowed to run riot without them?! We decided to go elsewhere for desert as we were so put off by the main course. Unfortunately would not recommend or return,
Always a favorite spot and the ham hock is so good!
Love your pub!
DISAPPOINTED. We've been travelling down to the Hollow Bottom a couple of times a year for the past ten years but on this occasion not impressed, we were shown to our table then had to wait 15 minutes for a waitress to ask us what we wanted to drink, then another 15 minutes to take our food order. The staff looked like they'd just come off the fields in an array of personal clothing and the general atmosphere was I don't care. Very disappointed.
Great curry on Wednesday.
Food was excellent quality & flavour. Would’ve liked the pub to be a bit warmer & slightly brighter, maybe a few more lights. Otherwise would highly recommend & look forward to returning,
We loved it!! Will definitely come again
Great Sunday Lunch with excellent service
The third time we've met friends at the Hollow Bottom and all three visits have been a pleasure. Excellent food, great beer and a very thorough (but light touch) approach to Covid-19.
Booked a Wednesday Curry Night , advertised on email at £12 / person . Menu stated £15 / person ??? Curry arrived : Paneer & Spinach Tikka Masala was tasty & enjoyed . Chicken Tikka Masala cosisted of THREE pieces of chicken , several pieces of potato & LOTS of spinach ( not mentioned on the menu & not welcomed ) . The price confusion was corrected in our final bill but left a sour 'curry' taste . Unlikely to recommend or return on this showing , was keen to support a local pub in difficult times - but ultimately disappointed .
10/10 Cannot fault a thing... Staff are top dollar
Excellent lunchtime visit. Very Covid secure and an excellent lemon sole. Fig pudding was so scrummy
Slightly overpriced, but very enjoyable would book again
It was our first visit and we absolutely loved it and will definitely be back.
Absolutely amazing. Whilst we were sad that some of our choices had sold out by 4pm, everything we ate was delicious. We also had a member of staff kindly add a candle to one of our desserts after overhearing we were celebrating a birthday. Such a nice touch!
We really enjoyed the food at the Hollow Bottom! Couldn't fault the service! Only comment would be £4 for a pint of lemonade being the same price as a alcoholic pint is a bit steep!
Food and service as good as ever but ...Place was cold and there were 4 of us too. Heating needs to be sorted ASAP- I’ll be back hoping it will be warmer!
The roast beef was absolutely delicious and the pub atmosphere lovely. However, we were disappointed that not only had they run out of the only vegetarian roast option and the chicken, we were not told about this lack of options when we were directed to the menus. Secondly our roast did not come with the cauliflower cheese as specified in the menu, which made the roast rather expensive.
Lovely Sunday lunch. Not cheap but better than most so probably worth the extra.
