About The Hero of Maida
The Hero of Maida (formely known as The Truscott Arms, a much loved local), comprises a Victorian pub and garden offering cask ales, draft beers and cocktails alongside a comprehensive and daily changing bar menu.
The high ceilinged dining room on the first floor offers a more formal a la carte menu with a list featuring old and new world wines.
Henry Harris and Steve Collins' menu features provincial classic French dishes, British favourites and on Sundays will focus on The Sunday Roast including Roast Chicken, Slow Cooked Shoulder of Lamb, Roast Beef and endless Yorkshire Puddings.
Where else can you get brains...
Excellent food and service in beautiful surrounds
We had a great Sunday roast. The food was amazing and the service is excellent. We really enjoyed ourselves.
A great addition to the neighborhood!
Excellent Sunday Roast.
Excellent service, friendly atmosphere... just a little pricey for what it is...we did have a delicious meal!
Had a wonderful Sunday lunch roast - great staff and air con on a really hot day. Can’t wait to return !
We were meeting friends and it was lovely to be given time and space to relax and chat while being looked after. A space became available in the garden so we moved there for coffee. All in all it was a grand way to spend Sunday afternoon.
The menu was well thought out and I enjoyed my main (rabbit with mustard sauce). The chips were overdone. The waitress was very nice and had a great manner. However it was unfortunate she didn’t think to top up our water when there were only 3 service tables, nor did she bring pudding menus. We would have actually ordered pudding but then had lost patience after a good 30 minutes. I really like the bar downstairs, and the decor upstairs. The rooms look fantastic and this is what will bring me back for drinks. I’m not sure if I would come back for the à la carte though.
I have been here 4 times now and have enjoyed it each time. Fills a gap in the local market.
Amazing staff who were very helpful with food recommendations. And they surprised us by saying the first round of drinks were on the house, thank you!
Nice wine. Average food. Sullen service.
Beautiful pub and excellent deck. Unfortunately the food and service did not match the lovely decor. Slow service, no skim milk for coffee and sandwiches that were more bread than anything else. The sandwiches came with fries which were haphazardly strewn about the plate - normally fries come in a cup. aesthetically not much care taken with the dishes and presentation. I had higher hopes and for just drinks i'm sure perfect.
Excellent food and service. Definitely Maida Vale’s finest.
We were big fans of Truscott Arms. This was underwhelming in both menu and recipes. I was expecting a more inventive set of ingredients given the chef's experience.
It was great to see the old pub rescued and re-opened. Restoration and decoration is lovely. I started with heritage tomatoes and burrata and, with the vinagarette, it was excellent. My wife had the bayenne ham and melon - also very good. We each had the Onglet steak. It was flavourful, as expected, but seems as if little had been done to tenderize so, unfortunately, it was quite chewy. The chips that accompanied the steaks were fantastic. All in all, good but not great. We will return and try other menu items. onglet
Fine dinning at its best with friendly and efficient service.
The dishes were all excellent but perhaps because the Brazil game was being shown downstairs, it maybe diverted staff to punters there, service was sluggish with orders or requests needing repeating and at one point, an item of the mains arriving very late. Highly recommend the fish soup, coffee ice cream with walnut liqueur & the baby chicken dish. The Bar Manager did largely smooth things over and was himself very helpful - banter too - so aside from the service faux pas, a great evening with the right company
Great setting and food and fantastic well-priced wine list with both classics and more unusual wines. We left a Fathers Day card there by accident and they kindly posted it back to my Dad. Great evening thank you.
we have been twice before the the Hero of Maida: one at the soft opening & then after. Both times were much better than this one. The new staff have had insufficient training , which meant my husband waited too long for a pint of beer. it also meant that we had to signal to the staff that we wanted our water jugs refilled. The food did not all come out at once. Although I understand that cooked salmon needs to be refrigerated in this heat the cold salmon & vegetables which came out as the first dishes for our party of five were much too cold to have any flavour and we then had to wait for the next two people to receive their onglet steaks. Having recommended the venue to cousins for a celebratory dinner we were disappointed with our evening
Maitre d’ was too familiar and a little over-keen. Waiting staff were great and pitched it just right
The event was following my mother's funeral and we were all in the garden which was just perfect. Thomas was on hand throughout to assist everyone and the food and drinks were excellent. Everyone loved the venue with several saying they would come back again. Thank you once again to Thomas and all the staff who made it a happy occasion. Helena
We have eaten there 3 times in the last two weeks and each time has been exquisite... the food is just exceptional and the Sunday lunch was the best tasting lunch we’ve had in years! Love the story but it isn’t hard to keep supporting our local!
Had a wonderful evening celebrating with family. The food and atmosphere were great. My only complaint would be that 3 if us ordered the sharing steaks and they were not given to the correct couple. Apart from that minor mistake it was a great experience.
