About The Hero of Maida
The Hero of Maida (formerly known as The Truscott Arms, a much loved local), comprises a Victorian pub and garden, offering cask ales, fine wines, draft beers and cocktails alongside a comprehensive and daily changing bar menu.
The high ceilinged dining room on the first floor offers a more formal dinner setting menu with a list featuring old and new world wines.
Our full a-la-carte menu is available within both the pub and the dining room.
Henry Harris's menu features provincial classic French dishes, British favourites and on Sundays will focus on The Sunday Roast including Roast Chicken, Slow Cooked Shoulder of Lamb, Roast Beef and endless Yorkshire Puddings.
The service is one of the worst I experience - all the staff were rude - probably a function of management. The only saving grace is the food is not bad but anywhere can make food that isn’t bad - won’t be going there again
We had an excellent meal in the private dining room. The food was really tasteful and served on time for 20 guests including kids. The service and team were able to accomodate all to our needs with attentive and kind manners. Really relaxing environment, perfect for a Sunday roast with friends. Highly recommended and would definitely come back again.
Service could be better, new waitress that didn’t seem very confident
I went to Hero for a quiet girls night with my friend, and everything was perfect! The food was delicious, the staff were friendly and attentive and the atmosphere was welcoming. The January discount for Wednesdays was also extremely generous and I’m going back on Monday!
I've come to your restaurant for Sunday Roast lunch now on about 7 occasions. The food is very good but you never serve it with enough gravy. On the last 6 occasions, I have asked you to bring additional gravy. On no occasion, have you actually brought it. You bring horseradish sauce which I didn't ask for but not gravy (until reminded - often 2 or 3 times - when the meal is cold).
Exceptional food and great service. Can't wait to come back for another Sunday roast!
Served incorrect food, half table sat with food whilst others waited. Had run out of 3 out of 4 of the roasts and one of which was due to the waiter not putting order in on time.
All excellent. Private dining room was perfect for our family get together. Beautifully presented and comfortable. Food and service equally excellent
Great vibe, service, fab food and family friendly
Superb roast; great variety of veg, superb quality of meat and all well seasoned.
Our favourite pub in central London
We had the best xmas team party in the Blue room. Food was amazing and service was so good. We will definitely be back next year! Thanks! Vanessa
Excellent experience from all points of view.
While the food and drinks at Hero of Maida were delicious, we were left very disappointed by the service we received. Our server was incredibly attentive, but far too pushy. We were interrupted every five minutes for a recommendation of a dessert wine or a drink or a dish, all of which would’ve been fine in small doses but was done to excess. Our waiter noticed it was my birthday, which was very kind - and organised for a slice of cake with a candle to be brought to the table. While this was very kind, we were charged for this dish which we hadn’t requested which we thought was in ill taste. When we had finished eating, and before for some of us, our plates were taken away so quickly it made the environment quite tense and stressful. We also received the bill without asking for it, and though we had planned to spend more time drinking and chatting we ended up leaving feeling that the environment was inhospitable and we were being encouraged to leave. I really would like to return and recommend this pub to others, but I really do think that how service is conducted needs to be readdressed by management.
Excellent meal well organised Nice / interesting guests
We had a lovely family Sunday lunch as part of our Chrsitmas festivities. Thank you to the lovely wait staff and the food was spot on, we tried all the roasts and everyone enjoyed their meals, the sides were exceptional. Only downside was booking a 12 noon table and turning up at 11.50 and being asked to wait outside in the cold as they do not open before 12! (We would have expected them to be ready before the booking time.)
Lovely room and the waitresses did everything possible to ensure we had a good time. Far better service than at KPH where it is a bit glum.
all very good - service and food
Brilliant Sunday lunch yesterday. First visit but very impressed. Super attentive service from Nick. I hope he hit his vin chaud target! Excellent food quality and choice, and a great wine list and drink options. Thanks!
You've got a great pub here. The food, decor and atmosphere are great. If the staff in charge had not been so stressed, panicky and at times rude, the whole experience would have been perfect. We were there for Sunday lunch, which should be a relaxed affair. No great hurry, and numbers fluctuated (kids came later, pick up from birthday parties etc, some did want to eat and some didn't) and I get that this was not strictly speaking fair, but a smile and an 'I'll see what I can do' could have gone a long way.
Not the pubs fault, but it was very noisy where we were on the ground floor..
Terrific food and great atmosphere.
Made a dinner reservation for 5:30 as I had a train to catch afterwards and didn't want to be in a rush to catch it. We turned up a little early and were sent down to wait in the bar, and were told that someone would be down to get us when they were ready, which was no problem. We got a drink and sat there until around 5:50, and then I asked a member of staff if we could go up yet. She went up to ask, then told us the table would be ready at 6pm. No apology given, and we were made to feel like we were an inconvenience. The food was average at best, very dry chips, and the waitress serving us poured our wine and then cleaned the drip off the glass with her bare fingers! So unhygienic. Some of the staff were really friendly and gave us a bowl of water for the dog which was really appreciated, but all in all it was a pretty dismal experience. Especially disappointed as this meal was supposed to be a gift from me to my dad for his birthday. Would never come back.
