About The Hero of Maida
The Hero of Maida (formerly known as The Truscott Arms, a much loved local), comprises a Victorian pub and garden, offering cask ales, fine wines, draft beers and cocktails alongside a comprehensive and daily changing bar menu.
The high ceilinged dining room on the first floor offers a more formal dinner setting menu with a list featuring old and new world wines.
Our full a-la-carte menu is available within both the pub and the dining room.
Henry Harris's menu features provincial classic French dishes, British favourites and on Sundays will focus on The Sunday Roast including Roast Chicken, Slow Cooked Shoulder of Lamb, Roast Beef and endless Yorkshire Puddings.

We really enjoyed our meal and time at 'The Hero'. All dishes were very good and service was skilled, attentive and ( appropriately) relaxed. It was our first visit and we would look forward to coming again. In fact I organise an annual get together for old college friends in December and would be interested to know if you could accommodate a group ( usually 18-20) on Saturday 5th December next year? Many thanks.
Excellent food as always. The shin beef pie was phenomenal.
We were a table for two between to larger tables . It was a bit claustrophobic!! But food and service excellent.
The service was appalling at the restaurant on the first floor. We were a party of 8 and We had to go and get our own drinks from the bar downstairs and serve ourselves at the table. There were simply no servers around and we had to wait for a long tome for drinks , for the menus, for the food. Once food arrived it was good. The plates were not cleared after we were finished. We had to keep getting up and helping ourselves. This may have been because there was a private party upstairs. Also the food was good but the menu is a bit ‘not cohesive ‘ in my opinion.
Everything was perfect! The food was amazing, the staff were amazing and everyone had the best time. Please give a huge thank you to Alex who managed everything brilliantly and who was so kind and helpful and dealt with it all with great ease. We loved it! And everyone is already talking about doing it again.. couldn’t recommend it more..
The staff were amazing and really took care of us with a smile on their faces. The food was delicious, all our guests commented on how brilliant the various dishes were. The room we had was decorated beautifully, as was the table with place settings. Will be visiting again for sure. Thank you!
A great time had by all, thanks Hero staff.
Food is very good on the whole, but... The Beef Shin pie - which I had been looking forward to since my previous visit when I had no one to share it with - while very tasty, was terribly oily. Presumably a piece of beef fat was added to moisten the meat, but if so the chef went a bit overboard! Also, this really should be served with a small slice of toast for the bone marrow. That quibble aside, the friendly, relaxed service, interesting wine list, and a comfortable, quiet dining room (although this latest visit was on a Monday, when the dining room is closed, so we were in the rather more lively bar area...), mean we'll definitely be back soon!
Loved it! Very cozy pub perfect for Sunday roast. Food was delicious and the service was on point. Definitely will come back!
We enjoyed it very much. Friendly staff, great roast and very nice pub atmosphere. Our second time there and we will back again for sure.
Excellent Sunday roast at The Hero of Maida. We were upstairs in the dining room which was lovely. The service was very impressive and probably the best part of the experience. The food was delicious and lived up to what we had heard. We will definitely be returning.
Thank you for a great lunch & good service
Delicious food! Creativity in the cooking without going too crazy. Nice and warm atmosphere, both downstairs and especially upstairs.
Delicious food and very good service
Loved our visit. Will be back soon
No need, amazing lunch. Well done.
A group of us came for Sunday lunch and it was fantastic. We went for a dozen oysters to start which is always a treat, followed by a beef wellington to share, a roast pork and a cuttlefish dish. All exceptionally good, we also had brilliant service from the team there and will definitely come back soon!
Very good Sunday lunch - everything was spot on.
Good quality food (if a tad pricy) in a quiet and comfortable dining room, with excellent attentive service. Overall very satisfied, will certainly go again.
Never lets you down great food and beer Always look forward to coming to the Hero .
Very good quality food and good service. My requested to be far from the door was satisfied and as usual very cosy atmosphere
Our waiter was outstanding. As was the food.
Again a great evening and diner!
We have been to The Hero of Maida for Sunday lunch on a number of occasions. The food and service have always been excellent. We usual choose the roast beef. Generous portions and the meat is always tender.
Mike and Ellanora likes after us wonderfully. Food and wine were excellent.
