About The Hero of Maida
The Hero of Maida (formerly known as The Truscott Arms, a much loved local), comprises a Victorian pub and garden, offering cask ales, fine wines, draft beers and cocktails alongside a comprehensive and daily changing bar menu.
The high ceilinged dining room on the first floor offers a more formal dinner setting menu with a list featuring old and new world wines.
Our full a-la-carte menu is available within both the pub and the dining room.
Henry Harris's menu features provincial classic French dishes, British favourites and on Sundays will focus on The Sunday Roast including Roast Chicken, Slow Cooked Shoulder of Lamb, Roast Beef and endless Yorkshire Puddings.
Not a keen supporter of having dogs in the exclusive dining room! I think this is a very bad idea apart from service dogs of course!
Food was excellent, even though the Sunday roast lamb was all gone by 3pm!! Lunch is advertised 1-5pm, so ample supplies for this period need to be monitored. We booked for 3pm but had to wait till 3.15 for a table. The service from Sara was distant and at times unfriendly. If we visit again, we will eat downstairs at the bar, where I suspect we would have the same menu, and no service charge for service that was patchy at best.
Lovely pub with a nice atmosphere and very good pub fare. Menu is quite small and unfortunately they had run out of some dishes we were after. Would be better if they offered some sides too. Not the cheapest place in town but you pay for what you get. Will definitely return as I live in the area and the pub is gorgeous.
Poor service and a long wait, we kept having to go to the bar for our own drinks even though the table was booked for 4 seated people , its funny if you want chicken or lamb they only serve it for 2 or 3 people so if only you want it, you cant get it on a Sunday lunch menu. also quite expensive for not great quality food
My wife and I had an enjoyable evening. I ordered the Onglet and my wife had the lamb. Both were delicious. The service was excellent and the ambiance was very nice. We look forward to a return visit.
Delicious Sunday roast in lovely setting - will definitely be coming back.
Best Sunday roast I’ve had in a long time. Service was fantastic as well. Great place
Very enjoyable meal with good service
Great service, amazing place...will visit again!!
Great meal, will be back!
Great food and service!!
Terrific, attentive and patient staff and a delightful setting.
A lovely Christmas lunch. Thank you very much
Good quality of food and polite staff
Christmas Day lunch was well-organized, with good food and excellent service. Thanks to all the staff for their hard work, good humour and patience especially with the small children and dogs in our party.
I had booked 3 weeks in advance assuming we were going to be in the dinning room (as per precious occasions). My surprise was that we were Taken downstairs - 1st time- and I was told that if If I want to be in the dinning room i need to put it in the comments Maybe what you should do is to include that in the options when booking to manage expectations
We thought that in relation to the price that the food was just not good enough. My onglet was tasteless and my chips soggy. Perhaps because the restaurant was only half full the room lacked atmosphere. John Goldring
superb food and service
Food was very good. Although the two fish dishes ordered were stone cold. We had booked in the restaurant but after ten mins of confusion from the staff we were finally seated in the bar. The service was very good though throughout the meal.
We were seated near one.if your doors downstairs and it was freezing. I was told I should have requested not to sit near a door when I made the booking. We have been to you many times and I was, seated near the door last time but you managed to move me. You really should get some curtains to cover the door as it is very unpleasant being blasted with cold air every few minutes.
Everything was really delicious, the presentation, the atmosphere and the overall experience. There was one little snag and that was the length of time it took to bring out a small order for my 3year old. We had ordered sausage and chips well befor the rest of the party arrived and I had to ask 3 times about where it was. It eventually came with the rest of the meal. The staff were very apologetic and this was a small part of a lively experience. It would not stop me returning there again.
Very good and well presented food and a fine wine list, really pleasant dining room!
The menu was interesting, the room very pleasant, the restaurant populated by locals. The food was outstanding, service exceptional, and value very, very good. We definitely will return on our next visit to London.
Great local pub. Really enjoyed the upstairs dining room. Food and service were great and the atmosphere perfect. We enjoyed the braised venison and an excellent French red wine from their extensive menu. Highly recommend the place!
