About The Hero of Maida
The Hero of Maida (formerly known as The Truscott Arms, a much loved local), comprises a Victorian pub and garden, offering cask ales, fine wines, draft beers and cocktails alongside a comprehensive and daily changing bar menu.
The high ceilinged dining room on the first floor offers a more formal dinner setting menu with a list featuring old and new world wines.
Our full a-la-carte menu is available within both the pub and the dining room.
Henry Harris's menu features provincial classic French dishes, British favourites and on Sundays will focus on The Sunday Roast including Roast Chicken, Slow Cooked Shoulder of Lamb, Roast Beef and endless Yorkshire Puddings.
We had a lovely evening, food was very good. And very friendly service and athmosphere. Will surely come back again as I live in the area and loved the Truscott Arms. This is like a slightly updated version, but great.
Lovely menu and wine list - promised and delivered real quality. Good service. Brian
I have dined in both the restaurant and the bar on a number of occasions, I phoned last week to book a table in the restaurant for dinner, I was told it now only opened on Thurs Fri and Sat nights, but that the restaurant menu was in the bar and that it was the same chef, this being the case we booked, The menu bore little resemblance to the menu that I remember from the restaurant, and the three of agreed that the food was not great, and we will not be returning.
Thank you for hosting our event.
Perfect place that is very baby friendly
Outstanding food for a local pub
Good service and food was ok. Thought the onglet was a bit tough but the strak tartar was nice.
A delight! Outstanding food and charming, easygoing service in a beautiful pub. Highly recommend.
An excellent lunch
I came for a roast with a friend and overall we thought it was very good; the veg sides were outstanding however the chicken could have used a bit more flavour. My bigger qualm with this restaurant was the service. We were seated upstairs and although the place was almost empty at 5pm, we were shown a table of two in the middle of other (empty) tables with one side being a booth and the other a chair. Since there was no one in the restaurant, we slid over to the two-top next to us, which was a corner, in order to have some more space. We were surprised when the waitress rushed over and told us we couldn’t sit there, without explanation. We looked at her oddly and then carried on. This waitress also hurriedly asked us for our drink order and was rather rude the rest of our time there. Our last disappointment is when we went to order our pudding, she came back 5 minutes later to unapologetically tell us they had run out. That being said, we were ready to get the bill and leave. At this point we were the only diners in the restaurant (at 7pm) and the table next to us was still empty..... As we were leaving, all of the servers were seated eating dinner and not one of them checked to see how our dinner was or said goodbye. This place is really lovely and has much potential, but you may be better off eating downstairs in the bar where the service seems much more friendly.
Can't compliment this place enough. Second time coming, all the way from Malaysia. Friendly service, warm ambiance and really good food.
Trying to be too posh and not delivering. Food was fine but nothing special. Lack of communication between staff meant a delay to seat us and poor/slow service countinued from there. Food took over half an hour to arrive. Dessert menu we asked for never arrived, and we then had to pester hard to get the bill (which was also v slow to arrive).
Excellent tasty food. Service is somewhat amateurish albeit well-meaning
This is a very charming restaurant/bar. Its principal failing is the volume of the music. It is NOT a discotheque, it is a place to meet people, to talk, the exchange ideas, none of which was possible against the volume of the music. That said, the oysters were as good as any I have had in England this year, and the fish was delicate, flavoursome, and ideally cooked.
Excellent Sunday roast lunch and great service!
Made to feel very much at home, and the Yorkshire pudding couldn't have been better.
Delicious Sunday lunch.
Good food, so so service, some items crazy overpriced. It took 15 for the to show us to our table although we had a reservation and the place was virtually empty (the reason 'the staff/manager is in a meeting). The roast was really good. Then we ordered a large platter of cheese for dessert, which was £10 and got a plate with three small pieces of mediocre cheese. I asked them if they had brought the small platter (£4) by mistake and they confirmed that that was the large one. I found it ridiculous. I did not push it more because I didn't want to spoil the meal for the people in my table, but I found pretty cheeky.
Always a terrific atmosphere with delicious food and friendly service.
Elegant, reassuringly quiet upstairs dining room that favoured conversation. Short but interesting and enjoyable menu - could offer more fish and vegetarian / vegan choices to gain 5 stars.
We had Sunday lunch here and although the food was excellent the drinks we ordered did not arrive to the table until after we had finished our meal. This was after a few attempts to remind the waiting staff about our missing beverages and when they did show up it was as if this was all normal.
Great food and friendly service
This has been our second visit. We were very impressed with the quality of the food and the friendly service. After our first visit, we had already made recommendations and will continue to do so. Definitely great value for money and a relaxing atmosphere. This will definitely become a favourite. We do love the high ceilinged dining room on the first floor.
Not a keen supporter of having dogs in the exclusive dining room! I think this is a very bad idea apart from service dogs of course!
