About The Hero
The Hero is a country pub with letting rooms in Burnham Overy Staithe, a small seaside village just 5 minutes from Burnham Market and popular with yachtsmen, birdwatchers and locals alike. A dog friendly pub, where pooches are welcome in all areas of the business.
We loved our stay at the Crown. The room was much nicer than the pictures. Airy, clean and lovely simple decor. Service was excellent. I loved the view our of the gorgeous period window to the trees in the square. We will be back
We didn’t stay. The restaurant was far too busy with total lack of self distancing and lack of ventilation. The evening before lockdown this was simply not a safe environment to dine.
Visited by luck on a visit around 18 months ago and had a great meal. Made a point of booking ahead so we could eat here on this visit. Lovely meal, delicious food, great service. Shame we had to leave to get our children to bed before they fell asleep on their plates. We’ll be back!
We had a fantastic time at The Hero. We’ve always been a fan of the pub but never eaten in the evening. The service was fantastic, waiting staff were all very efficient and friendly. Food was delicious, though I might have appreciated a some more unusual choices on the menu. Everything we ate was fantastic , however. Will be recommending to lots of people!
My wife and I enjoyed a lovely light lunch here after walking the coastal path from Titchwell. We were warmly welcomed and although we arrived 40mins earlier than our booked time there was no wait. We shared the Fritto Misto plate (Crispy squid, prawns, hake & fennel, served with lemon aioli) with a side of Parmesan, truffle & rosemary chips and a salad. The food was delicious and the service was faultless, from a friendly and attentive chap. We will definitely be back!
We had an excellent dinner at The Hero last night. Such a shame they are having to close again.
Delicious food !!!
Overall we had a pleasant stay. Some great aspects and some areas where improvements can be made. It started with a very friendly warm welcome from the GM and team. Our room was comfortable and cosy with everything we needed apart from reliable WiFI and TV connection. Whilst a bit frustrating it wasn’t a hugely big deal for us but might affect other guests’ perception. The cookies in the room were lovely! Our dinner was enjoyable and service good. Menu very limited- expect it to be on a Sunday but just a couple more options for starters and mains would be good. Absolutely love the location and the recommendation for walks from the GM was much appreciated. Breakfast was good on the whole but I felt that the welcome and interaction could be a bit warmer. We weren’t asked how our stay was- hence no real opportunity to impart re; WIFI and TV. Would expect a bit more of a ‘warmer and friendlier’ departure experience- e.g ‘Hope you have a lovely day, come back again soon...’ etc. That said we would return if we come back to the area.
We turned up with our dog and greeted really politely which set the tone. We had a great table in a well spaced out room. Covid safe !!the team that served us where great fun and very observant and nothing was too much. the Duck starter is too die for and the Sunday roasts went down a treat. If i had a criticism was the cheese board could have been out of the fridge longer to allow the brie to melt . That's said all very delicious and our best meal over the long weekend by far.. Keep up the good work.
Very efficient system for ordering.
First class, very sad we will be kept away for a month
Both our roast dinners were excellent but a big thank you for my very tasty gluten free roast.
Excellent Sunday roast and a brilliant atmosphere
Lovely pub, a firm favourite of ours when in Norfolk. Always delicious food and very friendly staff
5 star all the way....! We really enjoyed our visit - thank you! Nothing was too much trouble - including when my 3 year old decided she wanted to order off piste and demanded pasta! Low and behold chef came up trunks with a fab bowl or tomato pasta that my 7 year old delighted in finishing after she had demolished her burger and chips! Vegan fish abs chips superb, and can’t believe Mr. Johnson has decided to close the doors for a few weeks but there we go - we all have to do our bit! If I had one do differently in these COVID times I would suggest - either get some windows abs doors open- in spite of the the chill- or lose a few tables as it did feel a touch crowded and enclosed by the time we left....... but I’m not surprised as the experience overall is so great! Huge thanks and keep positive!!!!! See you soon xxxx I hope!
Lovely meal with super attentive friendly staff.
Great afternoon! Thank you
Excellent service food and surroundings
We have fined at The Hero a number of times over the last couple of years. The service is always excellent. The food is delicious and we are always made to feel very welcome.
Have frequented The Hero several times in last few months & always greeted by friendly welcome ( including our dogs ) . Twice recently we have telephoned to say we will be delayed and they have accommodated our request to arrive at a later time . The food is consistently good and they serve a fine pint of wherry . We will return!
Will be back!
We had a great trip thanks Sat in the bar which had a great atmosphere Staff lovely Best burgers!
Breakfast was very good. Well cooked and nice crispy streaky bacon. Staff were pleasant and efficient COVID precautions were good. We were early for breakfast and so there wasnt much of an atmoshpere but we didnt care but by the time we were leaving there were more people coming in and it was starting to get a buzz. I can imagine it would have a nice atmosphere at busier times.
A lovely pub with great menu
The Hero is a great place for a lunch, and my only concern, as a 'senior' was the social distancing in the restaurant. I think some of the tables were too close together.
