About The Hare and Hounds Hotel
The Beaufort Restaurant
We love good food and dining in the Beaufort Restaurant allows you to enjoy just that – rosette-awarded dishes served within elegant surroundings…
New for October 2017; our relaxed, A La Carte menu combines the best of British with a few infusions from across the channel and aims to showcase the fantastic selection of seasonal produce sourced right here in the Cotswolds. Think quality fresh ingredients, simply served and reasonably priced!
Our friendly team will be on hand to help you choose, offering recommendations on both food and wine, leaving you to sit back, relax and enjoy!
Alternatively, gather your friends, invite the family and make the traditional Sunday lunch that little bit more special.
Jack Hare’s Bar
If Jack Hare were a man, he’d be a chirpy fellow who’d enjoy good food, fine ale and a cosy armchair by the fire he could just sink into with his faithful four-legged companion sat loyally by his side. So we’ve created a lively country pub next door that offers just that. We’ve even immersed man’s (and Jack’s) best friend into the artwork behind the bar, painted by our signature artist Katharine Lightfoot.
With a vibrant ambiance and lots of intimate cosy corners to unwind in, friends come together and locals gather to feast on a plate of sumptuous food and a glass of fine wine throughout the day. Our bar menu is indulgent yet simple and designed to satisfy your cravings from breakfast through to dinner with a delicious bite for lunch in between. There’s a fabulous selection of ales and ciders, an inspiring wine list or a traditional gin and tonic, whatever your tipple may be, our friendly bar staff will be ready to serve it to you. During the warmer months, relax outside in the summer sun.
Please note that booking is not available for Jack Hare's Bar.
Super surroundings excellent food and very friendly efficient staff !
Shame about the noisy wedding going on. If I’d known beforehand I’d have booked a different day to visit.
Really enjoyable experience, Fantastic food and good service
an excellent stay to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. One of our favourite Cotswold hotels didn't let us down. Great accessible room and wonderful food as always.
Everything about the Hare and Hounds was excellent. Our room was very comfortable and equipped beyond my expectations. The food served in the evening was again excellent. The Highgrove package was exceptionally good value and I would highly recommend it.
Such a high standard of safe awareness of customers needs
We came as part of the offer to visit Highgrove Gardens. We were delighted to be upgraded for our room and enjoyed the visit very much. The staff were very helpful.
Overall very happy with the afternoon. Lovely venue and beautiful food. Will definitely be returning. We would have liked to see more variety of teas and some loose leaf. Some guests in the restaurant had trainers - not really appropriate for Sunday Lunch.
Lovely stay again for Badminton. Beautiful accommodation with excellent pillows and bed. Staff all exceptionally helpful and courteous.
We are regular visitors and dining was very good as usual
Another lovely stay. Staff as ever were superb in all areas. Lovely welcome. Great service in restaurant and bar. Turn down service was fantastic - attention to detail excellent. Many thanks. Great service in Beaufort Restaurant but menu a little underwhelming. Found choosing a main difficult but that's probably down to personal preferences. Desserts on both nights disappointing. Second night ate in Jack Hare's. Service again excellent. Food good. Lovely atmosphere. Room - Magnolia - very nice. Only comment would be that the bedroom is very stark and rather clinical. Could do with a throw on the bed and a couple of pictures to add some warmth. Lounge area great and hot tub well maintained and a lovely feature. Our third visit and another highly successful one. Will definitely look to visit again. Can't praise the staff enough - they are first class.
We really enjoyed our stay - the room was stunning. Very relaxed atmosphere but excellent service. Food was totally delicious. We will definitely be returning.
The food was lovely with a good choice of dishes. One of our party has a food intolerance and was catered for extremely well and without fuss. Attentive staff. A thoroughly enjoyable stay.
We returned to the Hare and Hounds for Mother’s Day lunch following our wedding here and I have to say we left feeling very disappointed which was such a shame. The service was very slow indeed and we often needed to search out someone to help us despite there being plenty of staff around, they didn’t seem attentive at all. We had to ask if we could order drinks when they forgot to ask us and then waited a good while for them to come out. The food was just ok - Nowhere near the usual standard we have had before, the black butter was just very odd and offputting (nobody even explained why it was black!) and my trout was very dry and over cooked. The chocolate tasting desert was a real let down and we all left lots of this. We asked if we could have our desserts in the lounge and were told that no, this was reserved for people having cofffee - yet there wasn’t a single person sat at any of the sofas?! (Yet we have done this previously and it wasn’t a problem) Such a shame as this is a very special place for us - but we would be very hesitant to book for a meal again in the future considering this cost us over £350
Dear Emma, Thank you so much for taking the time to leave us your feedback, It really is much appreciated. I am sorry we have given you cause to complain and It comes with great shock to hear of your disappointment regarding your Mother’s Day lunch. We served over 100 guests for lunch alone and this is the first we’ve heard of slow service and just ok food. I would always suggest letting a member of management know if you have any issues regarding your meal at the time so we can rectify any issues there and then. Due to the amount of guests we had on Mother’s day we were unfortunately unable to offer the Beaufort lounge as an area to eat Sunday lunch. We also had a private lunch in our Library and Afternoon Teas booked in the Drawing room which left the Beaufort Lounge as our only available area for guests to enjoy tea and coffee which sadly meant a table of 11 wouldn’t be possible. I do hope this experience hasn’t put you off visiting us in the future. Kind Regards, The Hare and Hounds Hotel
Thanks for a lovely day one minor problem dealt with immediately by friendly and efficient staff
I don't usually leave reviews, but wanted to say that the food and service at the Beaufort restaurant for Sunday lunch this week was fantastic. For a reasonable price for 3 courses the food, both in presentation and taste was of the highest quality. The service felt like a Michelin starred restaurant with all of the group's food arriving together and very attentive service from polite and excellent staff. As a group we meet for Sunday lunch on a regular basis around Bristol and Gloucestershire, and this was one of only a few we would definitely return.
We stayed in the family room which was perfect, although there was the possibility of banging my head in the sloping roof. The staff were attentive, polite and helpful, especially Michaela on reception when we first arrived. We had afternoon tea in Jack Hare's bar which was enjoyed by us all. For the evening meal my wife and I ordered sirloin steak which tasted sweet. The chef suggested it was the glaze that was used, but I am not convinced. This was the only off note for the whole visit. I would definitely recommend the Hare and Hounds to anybody wanting to stay in that area and would look to stay again myself later in the year.
We had a lovely evening at the Hare and Hounds. Food was delicious and certainly left happy and satisfied. Very attentive staff. And attention to detail was very thoughtful as printed special menus for 2 of our party due to allergies.
This is our 6th time staying at the hotel, and we bring our dog and stay in a dog friendly room. As always we thoroughly enjoyed our stay, the staff are very professional and friendly, the atmosphere is lovely and the food was superb. The only slight criticism we have is the poor WiFi signal within our room, but apart from that everything else was faultless!
The food in the restaurant was very good, well-presented and tasty. The service was excellent.
staff were so friendly and helpful to my wife and myself
Superb lunch. The only very minor negative was that both the lounge & dinning room were a little cold but that said it did not spoil what was a nice afternoon.
I thought the restaurant was very expensive for the food that was given. There was only 1 option for a vegetarian for a main, there was no variety on the menu.
Dear Nisha, Thank you so much for your feedback. I am very sorry to hear that you did not feel that you got value for money during your visit. My sincere apologies that you were not offered our full vegetarian menu, I can only assume the waiting staff must not have realised that you were vegetarian. I will ensure that they are more vigilant in the future. I do hope that you will not this incident deter you from dining with us again in the future. Kind regards Ross Taylor Deputy General Manager
Excellent stay. Lovely room. Good food and an excellent breakfast.
We enjoyed a wonderful stay at The Hare and Hounds and are already looking to book a return visit. My main memory of the hotel will be the staff who were helpful, charming and professional. A real credit to the place. Room was spotless and very pleasant. Main areas were cosy and well thought out - plenty of seating and quiet areas. Restaurant was very good - again staff were attentive and charming. Jack Hare's bar was lovely and cosy and staff went that extra mile to get me the drink I had requested. Breakfast was very good and the lady who seated us was, as with the other staff, most accommodating. It really is a lovely place. Only areas I would like to touch upon for improvement: the curtains in our room - 20 - looked fine when drawn but on closing them were in desperate need of being hooked back onto the rail. The cheeseboard at dinner was a bit of a let down after a great meal and not good value. Lastly, we left a tip in cash after dinner and then had a tip added onto the final bill. We had not realised this was the case and were so happy with the service we had received we didn't want to make a fuss and request only a single payment so left it. All in all a really good first visit and we hope to stay again in the next month or two.
