About The Hare and Hounds Hotel
The Beaufort Restaurant
We love good food and dining in the Beaufort Restaurant allows you to enjoy just that – rosette-awarded dishes served within elegant surroundings…
New for October 2017; our relaxed, A La Carte menu combines the best of British with a few infusions from across the channel and aims to showcase the fantastic selection of seasonal produce sourced right here in the Cotswolds. Think quality fresh ingredients, simply served and reasonably priced!
Our friendly team will be on hand to help you choose, offering recommendations on both food and wine, leaving you to sit back, relax and enjoy!
Alternatively, gather your friends, invite the family and make the traditional Sunday lunch that little bit more special.
Jack Hare’s Bar
If Jack Hare were a man, he’d be a chirpy fellow who’d enjoy good food, fine ale and a cosy armchair by the fire he could just sink into with his faithful four-legged companion sat loyally by his side. So we’ve created a lively country pub next door that offers just that. We’ve even immersed man’s (and Jack’s) best friend into the artwork behind the bar, painted by our signature artist Katharine Lightfoot.
With a vibrant ambiance and lots of intimate cosy corners to unwind in, friends come together and locals gather to feast on a plate of sumptuous food and a glass of fine wine throughout the day. Our bar menu is indulgent yet simple and designed to satisfy your cravings from breakfast through to dinner with a delicious bite for lunch in between. There’s a fabulous selection of ales and ciders, an inspiring wine list or a traditional gin and tonic, whatever your tipple may be, our friendly bar staff will be ready to serve it to you. During the warmer months, relax outside in the summer sun.
Please note that booking is not available for Jack Hare's Bar.
We enjoyed a wonderful stay at The Hare and Hounds and are already looking to book a return visit. My main memory of the hotel will be the staff who were helpful, charming and professional. A real credit to the place. Room was spotless and very pleasant. Main areas were cosy and well thought out - plenty of seating and quiet areas. Restaurant was very good - again staff were attentive and charming. Jack Hare's bar was lovely and cosy and staff went that extra mile to get me the drink I had requested. Breakfast was very good and the lady who seated us was, as with the other staff, most accommodating. It really is a lovely place. Only areas I would like to touch upon for improvement: the curtains in our room - 20 - looked fine when drawn but on closing them were in desperate need of being hooked back onto the rail. The cheeseboard at dinner was a bit of a let down after a great meal and not good value. Lastly, we left a tip in cash after dinner and then had a tip added onto the final bill. We had not realised this was the case and were so happy with the service we had received we didn't want to make a fuss and request only a single payment so left it. All in all a really good first visit and we hope to stay again in the next month or two.
Excellent friendly waiting staff
This was the second time we had stayed and eaten at The Hare and Hounds. The food was very good although I think it was slightly better the first time we visited when we had all kinds of complementary dishes brought out between courses. There was a good range of food on offer and as my wife and I don't eat meat, we were pleased to see a variety of fish and vegetarian choices available. Presentation of food was very good. Service was excellent and staff are very attentive and polite. We will certainly return. Thank you to all the staff.
we have always enjoyed our stays with you, ambience is great staff are terrific, the restaurant is nice although the food for us is a bit "cheffy". However I have just received an email accusing us of taking one of your cosmetics and this has upset us - we do not need nor want any such thing and I am about to telephone you. What a complete disappointment.
We missed the palet cleanser with our evening meal.
I only stayed one night & found it most enjoyable. Very relaxing & comfortable lounges & dinner & breakfast were excellent. Without exception all members of staff were extremely helpful & welcoming. It was wonderful to be able to book a single room, which though small, had all the services & comfort of a double room. One tiny niggle (!) the fire door immediately outside room 12 was very noisey at night.
We had lunch on Sunday. Very high quality meal and surprisingly large portion for this type of restaurant. Very well priced at this quality level.
Very relaxing food experience. Good choice on all courses.
Very nice stay. Everything upgraded from a few years ago when we last stayed.
Room, services and facilities were all to a very high standard. Great relaxing break for our journey on to Bristol
Excellent hotel in a great location with extensive grounds. Facilities, rooms, food and service were first class. Will definitely be returning.
Plenty of waiters but were asked to order at the bar when sat on the terrace even though I had booked a table for Sunday lunch. Then a waiter appeared and did take our order which was confusing. But still had to pay at the bar. Not sure whether we were having table service or not really.
Excellent location, particularly for visiting Highgrove, but also this area of the Cotswolds generally.
Despite having booked online, the hotel staff were not interested that I had made a booking when I arrived. (Why bother to take a booking online if you take no notice of it?) My reservation was for 4.30pm but was told quite abruptly on arrival that tea stopped service at 5pm. Again, don't take a reservation for 4.30pm for tea if you wish to hurry people by telling them you finish at 5pm? Order was taken, tea arrived quite quickly but food was extremely slow and by time food arrived we had almost finished the tea. Nobody came back to ask how we were getting on or asked if we wanted anything else. We asked for the bill twice with no joy so eventually went up to the bar area to queue to ask for it. Only one member of staff serving at the till with another member behind the bar polishing glasses and not interested in serving. Not a good experience - sandwiches were bland and I would not recommend your establishment to anyone else and will certainly not be returning for this overpriced tea experience. A real shame as it's a lovely hotel
Second visit for us and it won't be the last. Excellent in every respect.
we thoroughly enjoyed our experience at your establishment.
Our Lilac room was excellent.
There is a varied selection, with some interesting/unusual options. Excellent service and not too expensive
We had a very pleasant evening, dining with friends in the Beaufort Restaurant. The service was friendly and efficient and generally we enjoyed the meal although my wife and I were a little disappointed with our starters and desserts (we had chosen the same). Our starters, the carpaccio of beef, was not what we were expecting. We had anticipated it being thin slices of raw meet - similar to previous experiences of carpaccio of beef, eaten in the past, often at Italian restaurants - this was (and we have to agree, it was as described) simply thin slices of rare roast beef, complete with fat attached. Had we appreciated that we would not have ordered it as it is very different from conventional carpaccio of beef. Our desserts, the rhubarb crumble shortcake were also disappointing as it didn't appear to be either crumble or shortcake. All that said, we thoroughly enjoyed our main course, the Fillet of Hake. We were given a warm welcome on arrival at the hotel and were allocated a comfortable room. We would certainly stay again, but perhaps be a little more enquiring about the menu choices!
Lovely hotel, beautiful and comfortable Rooms, excellent food and great service. The gardens are lovely and it is a firm favourite of ours, you feel spoilt but totally relaxed and at ease - we love it ! Thankyou x
We only had one night but really enjoyed our stay. The staff were very polite, friendly and helpful. The food was lovely and the breakfast excellent. We'll definitely be coming back. Thanks you
Had s lovely Sunday lunch. Food and portion size were perfect. Safe very professional and welcoming.
Beautiful location, welcoming staff, good quality food and delicious wines. A lovely setting to relax and enjoy the company of good friends.
The Beaufort Restaurant at the Hare & Hounds Hotel is in every way the reason why we - even for 4 days - come along all that way from Mechelen, Flanders in Belgium: hotel and restaurant/breakfast room are just what we are looking for to discover the Cotswolds and enjoy the unique atmosphere in the house
Gastro Pub food at restaurant prices.
