About The Half Moon
The Half Moon is a country pub, restaurant and kitchen garden located in the beautiful village of Kirdford, West Sussex.
Honest, organic and home from home are just some of the values we hold close and our guests can expect flavour and quality to be at the centre of everything we create or do.
From a la carte to tasting, we offer a selection of menus inspired by the seasons and the ever-changing Sussex Downs. In addition, we utilise quality British produce sourced as locally as possible.
Our beverage list is diverse and constantly evolving to ensure our guests can enjoy local real ales, craft lagers and fine Sussex Wines.
Whether you visit our garden room, restaurant, lounge or terrace, we encourage you to sit back, unwind and let our friendly team look after you.
Pleasantly surprised. Good plates of food, not too small, but excellently presented and taste to match. Beer and wine spot on and service exemplary. What's not to like?
We had a lovely lunch but were quite surprised to find the pub empty, especially during half term. This had quite an effect on the atmosphere, albeit the pub is done up beautifully, is very friendly and welcoming. I felt the menu to be a little limited (lack of meat dishes?) and perhaps needed a few of the good old pub favourites - I do appreciate though that you may be aiming at quite modern menus but I just wonder if this is putting some country goers off? We are simple people after all and often choose to go to a pub rather than a restaurant for exactly this reason. There are very clever modern and appealing ways one can make original pub dishes up to date and popular. You could perhaps price these dishes slightly cheaper, albeit I certainly didn't find the prices unnecessarily high. Staff absolutely lovely and service very good. When looking up your website, I can't help thinking I may have been slightly put off by all the additions of Mothers Day, Summer Soltice, Curry House etc etc marketing being quite so visible - perhaps just an Events page so your site is much easier to navigate and work your way round - IE. just keep these under Events rather then listing them all in full. Hope these help, certainly not intended as negatives and thank you for a lovely lunch! Claire
We came here for my Dad's 70th birthday lunch and had a wonderful time - the food was exceptional and the service was great. We had a small wait for our table when we arrived but the host kept us reassured. All the staff were friendly and accommodating and dealt with any issues quickly. We will definitely be returning.
Excellent service and pleasant staff made our visit most enjoyable. The food was great, very difficult to find a restaurant to make good roast potatoes, I nearly asked for seconds. The flavours in my crab starter were wonderful. Thank you
Had a great evening on Saturday 16th Feb , we all enjoyed the atmosphere and the staff were all well informed and happy . My only feedback would be that at times the staff were "Over Attentive " , for example I was asked 4 times by two different staff " Was my starter ok " …..I know you cannot win here , but it was noticed by the 4 of us . A minor point but worthy of a mention . Thank You
A great pub/ restaurant in the sussex countryside, the atmosphere in the pub is warm & friendly, the service& food menu & quality in the restaurant is excellent.
Loved it but thought a little pricey for cheeseboard Lovely location too!
A lovely cosy pub with superb staff , so welcoming and friendly. Food is always good, slight disappointment though ... what’s happened to all the delicious little home made breads ? They were missing on our last two visits ☹️ That said , the whole experience is one that makes you want to keep coming back .
Brilliant food and service. We will be back!
food was ok only . location and setting lovely . staff fine and friendly but not outstanding
Although this was our first visit, it won't be our last. We enjoyed a scrummy lunch overlooking the front garden. The food was all good and cooked with imagination and creativity. A warm welcome and attentive service made our lunch a memorable occasion.
Thoroughly enjoyed our evening, food and drinks were delicious, staff were very attentive and went above and beyond when we couldn’t get a cab so drove us home ! Great service thank you.
Excellent food and friendly service A great country Pub & Restaurant
Great service, Great quality of food and ambiance, staff were attentive to every aspect of the meal. We will be back very soon......
Great food with lovely atmosphere and attentive service.
Roaring fire , friendly staff , excellent food. What’s not to like ?
Very good food and service and the atmosphere was also very good.
Lovely food and wine, service was very good and friendly. Gave less on atmosphere only because most tables vacated when we arrived. A couple of our party also had the Duck which was too undercooked for their liking but the waitress did warn them this was how the chef did it.
An excellent birthday lunch at The Half Moon, service, food and drink were first class. Cocktails were delicious and the team couldn’t do enough to ensure our lunch experience was brilliant. Will be returning soon for sure.
Disappointing. We have been there a number of times but the food wasn't great this time around. Plus the lunch menu wasn't available and so we had to eat from the a la carte menu which bumped the bill up!!!
Fantastic food, great atmosphere and impeccable service. Will visit again soon.
Great lunch - food fantastic!
I am spending more time at the Half Moon than my home! As a welcoming warming country pub, this is up there with the very best in West Sussex.
A friendly welcome, great food and service. A very enjoyable experience. Highly recommended.
