About The Half Moon
The Half Moon is a country pub, restaurant and kitchen garden located in the beautiful village of Kirdford, West Sussex.
Honest, organic and home from home are just some of the values we hold close and our guests can expect flavour and quality to be at the centre of everything we create or do.
From a la carte to tasting, we offer a selection of menus inspired by the seasons and the ever-changing Sussex Downs. In addition, we utilise quality British produce sourced as locally as possible.
Our beverage list is diverse and constantly evolving to ensure our guests can enjoy local real ales, craft lagers and fine Sussex Wines.
Whether you visit our garden room, restaurant, lounge or terrace, we encourage you to sit back, unwind and let our friendly team look after you.
To give it all 5 stars is a guide to the feeling you get when you’re there. It’s an old pub and has kept its charm. The food was outstanding again and yes the value for money is there for such quality. We travelled for a lunch out and passed many places that are good to go somewhere exceptional.
Great evening in a lively (and occasionally loud) venue , with excellent service and a particularly nice Jacobs Ladder beef. The first choice of wine was unavailable but the other, number 40, was good.
Excellent food and service. We might have enjoyed ourselves too much !!!
We trusted the recommendation and we were not disappointed. We loved the food and the ambiance. We live in Gt Bookham but it was worth the journey. It’s a favourite new place. Hope to return soon. Rob
Extremely overpriced for the tiny portion sizes
Friendly staff and superb food.
good wine - rully white. fish pie lacked seasoning . no draft bitter!
Food - skilled execution and presentation; ambitious without being pretentious. Hospitality - excellent; relaxed and welcoming whilst also being efficient.
Beautiful location, cosy atmospheric pub . Fantastic service even though it was packed. Small sunday menu but extremely tasty. Really good quality ingredients locally sourced. The only thing I found disappointing was there was no crackling on the pork belly roast & for my taste it was still a bit fatty but that said tasty enough for us all to clear our plates. The cauliflower cheese was the best all 4 of us had ever eaten & the beef was spectacular. We will defiantly be returning .
Wonderful food, though the “pickled onion” in the asparagus starter completely overwhelmed the delicious main ingredient. Desert was very small and all cheese could easily have come entirely from Sussex - there are some real gems out there. Service was excellent - a perfect Campari and orange aperitif. Will be back.
We felt that although the service was good, we were being a little rushed. We had arranged to meet family there and had about 1.5 - 2 hours drive to get to the Half Moon so wanted to have a relaxed meal but just felt as if you wanted the table back ASAP. We thought although the food was excellent, the portion sizes were far too skimpy. Ie. My husband had the salt cod brandade which did not resemble what a brandade should be but was a small spoonful of fish mousse with no accompanying bread or crackers of any description and we weren’t offered any bread although people on other tables were. My goats curd salad starter was lacking the pear and walnut as described on the menu. In total, there was probably less than half a walnut on the plate and two thin extremely small slices of pear. My son had the white chocolate sable for dessert which was tiny and didn’t even have a whole strawberry on it although it said ‘strawberry’ on the menu. On the whole we felt that we did not get value for money as the meal was expensive. In essence, we were very disappointed. I have checked trip advisor to see what other people have commented and there were lots of mentions of the portions being too small. I don’t feel, from our experience yesterday that you have addressed the problem successfully.
Great food and service!
Excellent evening spent enjoying a 6 course taster menu. Well presented, well served and above all creative combinations across all courses.
A fabulous afternoon. We were there to celebrate our wedding anniversary and also to celebrate the pending opening of Lumley & B Limited (a shop in Horsham selling high-end Outdoor Furniture and Giftware - sorry for the plug!) The staff were fantastic and we loved the fact that they had all individually signed a card for us. Food, service, atmosphere and everything just perfect. Thank you to everyone for a tremendous afternoon. Huw & Caroline
I am so easily pleased, but had my oldest friend, English, but lives in LA, to start, wanted a pint of bitter, no bitters on that day, unforgivable, I could have delivered you some from Dark Star, close to where I live. Then....instead, let’s try English sparkling, , not common in LA, Bolney, why not more local ones, Wiston etc, “sorry, can we have ten minutes to chill the bottle.’, it was never cold enough until, the last two glasses after cheese. Then....Meursault, with main course, room bloody temperature again, never cold enough. All so annoying and unforgivable, what is going on. If I had not been with an old friend, supporting me because my wife died two weeks ago, I would have walked out, complained, you have a lovely setting, great furnishing, and good chef, but the errors were unforgivable, cold wine please, and a pub with no bitter, gosh,v sad
Delicious Food Amazing service Fun atmosphere
Great food in pleasant surroundings. The staff were very professional and polite. Would definitely recommend a visit if you’re In the area.
The service was excellent however the food left a great deal to be desired. The explanation given was -a busy Sunday lunch. Regardless of day/time food should at least be edible. Extremely disappointed and left hungry.
Lovely setting , staff were extremely attentive and the food was first class.
Beautifully decorated and lovely food. Saying that, I have never been turned away at 11:58 because opening time is at 12! An elderly couple were forced to wait in the hot sun because the manager would not let anyone through the door until the clock hit 12pm exactly.Manager looked scruffy wearing very casual shorts and t shirt whilst all other staff were dressed very smart. This was a shame to see in such a lovely setting, especially when the clientele had put much more effort into looking smart than the manager! All being said, lovely pub, brilliant food and is definite must.
A lovely setting; good food; and excellent service.
Thoroughly enjoyed our visit, roast beef was superb, great service, thank you!
We received great welcome and lovely to start with pre-dinner drinks in the garden before enjoying a delicious family birthday supper in the restaurant. The wonderful service and attention to detail including a birthday card signed by the staff all made it very memorable occasion for my mother. Thank you so much to Louise, Gavin, Hattie and the Chef and the team for making it so special. We feel very lucky to have such a gem wirh fab staff in our village! A huge thank you!
Very enjoyable meal with friendly and efficient service
