About The Half Moon
The Half Moon is a country pub, restaurant and kitchen garden located in the beautiful village of Kirdford, West Sussex.
Honest, organic and home from home are just some of the values we hold close and our guests can expect flavour and quality to be at the centre of everything we create or do.
From a la carte to tasting, we offer a selection of menus inspired by the seasons and the ever-changing Sussex Downs. In addition, we utilise quality British produce sourced as locally as possible.
Our beverage list is diverse and constantly evolving to ensure our guests can enjoy local real ales, craft lagers and fine Sussex Wines.
Whether you visit our garden room, restaurant, lounge or terrace, we encourage you to sit back, unwind and let our friendly team look after you.
A most pleasant experience. Easy online booking, charming staff and well thought out and cooked food. Oh and the Harvey’s ale is as good as I’ve tasted anywhere!
Would like the fixed price lunch menu back.
Very good, will return.
Our second visit. Lovely staff, lovely atmosphere however The quantity of food has definitely shrunk. We had all travelled a long distance to get to you and we were all hungry when we arrived and were all hungry when we got home. On our last visit we were given lots of vegetables on the side and extra potatoes. Our roast beef dinners consisted of beef, two small roast potatoes, three small chunks of carrots and a teaspoon of red cabbage I am gluten intolerant and on our last visit the chef was very helpful. The menu yesterday was very limited for me. We were all very disappointed
A really, really good meal. Fantastic service by a warm and friendly staff who went out of their way to accommodate us. Thank you very much!
A wonderful day such a relaxing atmosphere and the staff are incredible. Highly recommended!
This is our 2nd dining experience at THM. Just as good as the first. We all enjoyed the food and the experience. Really looking forward to the next time. Rob
Once again I dined at the Half Moon, this time with five friends and found the usual excellent service with nothing being too much trouble for the well trained and charming staff. The food and drinks were much appreciated, although the habit of your bar staff automatically pouring (too much) tonic water into a glass of gin should cease as this is always a personal matter in the strength of the mix - particularly when the glass is half full of ice already. All of the staff are excellent but Jana and Ben particularly deserve mention. See you soon.
Nice to see that Johnny has not lost his touch after the move west. Far from it, good selection of plates to choose from, including the "custard" (albeit, thanks to the season, pumpkin rather than pea) that we travelled miles to taste. Skate and chicken wing went down well with our guests. Hake, mussel chowder etc, was great, and well presented, as you'd expect from Johnny. Some nice wine pairings on offer. The Half Moon could make more of a thing of that. The wine list also needs a tweak. The English "by-the-glass" wines were mysteriously hidden away at the back. (Then again Bolney isn't one of the local superstars.) Add some more Sussex wines – Court Garden, Wiston and Hindleap for starters – and make them a feature. The website also needs an update. No set lunch these days. The suggested walks just touch the surface. The pub is at the centre of a network of footpaths. Have a great meal and then walk it off. They must be doing something right. Friday lunchtime and the place was packed. But don't be fooled by the "country pub" label. Anyone who turns up in search of sausages and mash or pie and chips would be in for a surprise.
We enjoyed a truly outstanding evening. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we were looked after incredibly well; staff were so professional, thoughtful and friendly. Front of house some of the best we've experienced for years! The food was exquisite too; interesting taste combinations so beautiful presented. Portion sizes perfect to allow us to enjoy 3 courses and not feel overloaded. An evening to remember and to be highly recommended. Thank you!
Excellent and friendly dining experience. Great wine list.
A fantastic pub in a lovely location, the staff were very friendly and welcoming for our MINI club meet. The food was fantastic and despite it being October, we were able to enjoy the sunshine in the garden, we'll definitely be returning!
the staff were wonderful, the food fab u lous! Vicki
Delicious Sunday lunch!
Overall we thoroughly enjoyed the meal to celebrate my Mum's birthday. The service was outstanding, and the food was to a very high standard. They also provided a couple of extra touches as it was our Mums birthday. We did however feel that the menu choices were very limiting, especially when we were asked to pre-order and had only a couple of main course options. When we requested to order off the main menu this was accommodated but again if you had not liked fish or pork you would have been struggling to choose something.
Love this pub. Always a friendly welcome. Food is oh so delicious always . Homemade breads and flavoured butters, then starters, I had the rabbit which was new for the autumn menu, so delicious. My husband had a mullet soup which he really enjoyed. We both had skate and chicken wing for mains , an unusual combination which worked perfectly. Dessert for me was buttermilk sponge , lovely and light and then, as usual , we both had an expresso martini, yummy !
The best meal we have had in a long time, wonderful flavours, good attention to detail and lovely knowledgeable staff.
Fantastic food, staff and location. Thank you Halfmoon
Excellent service and quality of food. A very enjoyable lunch
I'd love to find out where you got your salt and pepper sets from - they were exactly what I've been looking fo for ages. We had a lovely meal on Saturday night - a great mixture of an informal setting, but with great food, that def warrants the drive over from Ewhurst!!
Disappointing, service and wine were wonderful but food was not great. Did not justify its price I am afraid, the treacle cured salmon was poorly balanced with the salmon lost in the curing process, the skate was over cooked, the pork was good but not special. Dessert, buttermilk sponge, and cheeses were good but by then it was too late to salvage the meal. I hope the chef returns to a simpler well executed menu.
Poor value for money - small portions small menu high prices. Try the White Horse at Graffham - amazing !!
It was my second visit to The Half Moon on Friday and if anything was even better than my first visit about a year ago. The food and presentation were superb and the service friendly and attentive. My only comment after my first visit was that the lighting in the dining room was too dim but that has been addressed to give a lovely warm atmosphere now.
Very enjoyable lunch outside in the last of the early Autumn sunshine
The whole experience was excellent, nothing was too much trouble.
