About The Half Moon
The Half Moon is a country pub, restaurant and kitchen garden located in the beautiful village of Kirdford, West Sussex.
Honest, organic and home from home are just some of the values we hold close and our guests can expect flavour and quality to be at the centre of everything we create or do.
From a la carte to tasting, we offer a selection of menus inspired by the seasons and the ever-changing Sussex Downs. In addition, we utilise quality British produce sourced as locally as possible.
Our beverage list is diverse and constantly evolving to ensure our guests can enjoy local real ales, craft lagers and fine Sussex Wines.
Whether you visit our garden room, restaurant, lounge or terrace, we encourage you to sit back, unwind and let our friendly team look after you.
We chose the Half Moon for a long and lazy lunch to mark a celebration. What an inspired choice it turned out to be. The ambience, service and value were simply impossible to improve upon and the food was outstanding - truly outstanding. We ate in the garden, which is idyllic (with a little help from glorious sunshine). Asparagus and slow roasted hens egg was followed by roasted chump lamb with sweetbreads and ratatouille. Dessert was an amazing blackberry cheesecake and we then relaxed with a cheeseboard and port. Almost all produce is locally sourced. Their bread is made on the premises and many of the ingredients are grown in their kitchen garden (herbs and vegetables especially). A fantastic experience - thank you to all at the Half Moon for making our day brilliant.
Really lovely will be back
Fantastic lunch and great service. The quality and presebtation of the food was exceptional
Lovely curry night all good except the vegetarian option ... chicken was delicious . Very busy but got the feeling staff wanted to finish early pub was empty by 10 pm ! Lovely atmosphere and nice staff we will return .. thankyou

Cannot fault Jodie’s curry night, as I’ve said before the quality of the food is on a par with the only Michelin starred restaurant in this country
We hav eaten here several times and hav always been happy with quality of food however we felt you were a bit stingy with portion size of desserts, I had the egg custard tart and the tiny slither didn’t justify the hefty price of £8.50 ( London prices) I don’t mind paying these prices but I would expect value for money, however we will be back.
All the staff were fantastic. Clearly passionate about their jobs and really dedicated to providing us with everything we needed. Very good with my fidgety & cheeky son too! Great service, beautiful location & building. Food was delicious. Kids loved exploring the garden & herb garden. Perfect. Will be back again soon!
A great way to celebrate my 40th! Service and staff amazing as always-thank you xx
Lovely birthday treat, thank you! Now I need to book for next weekend for my partner’s birthday!
Our third visit in recent times and each one as good at the last, we visited for Saturday lunch and ordered from the a-la-carte menu. Food delicious, service attentive and friendly. Can't wait for our next trip.
Absolutely delicious meal but reserved for special occasions only as quite pricey - but worth every penny! Thank you
Very average for the price. Food was lukewarm. Service good. Had to send back main course as fish was raw. Expected better.
My wife and I have visited previously, but yesterday's lunch was poor in a number of ways. We came with two vegetarian friends to whom we had recommended the HM. It was an embarrassing experience. We all felt the food was average at best and certainly not to the standard the pub promotes. Vegetarian main courses were starter size, espresso coffee served in regular cups just two of the comments. The final issue was that the first bill we were given at the end of the meal was quickly taken back because a dessert had not been included and a revised, more expensive, bill replaced it. THE IRONY BEING THAT WHEN WE WERE AT HOME AND CHECKED THE AMOUNT WE FOUND THAT WE HAD BEEN CHARGED, AND HAD PAID FOR, THREE ASPARAGUS STARTERS DESPITE ONLY HAVING TWO. All in all we are most displeased, won't be returning and certainly wouldn't recommend the HM again. Shame, because we had high expectations.
Very nice birthday dinner been before but only for drinks really loved the fact the kids were also made welcome too And looking forward to coming back in the future Always been a fan of Jodie’s and even more so now helped by the great and inviting staff she has selected Many thanks
Very disappointed with my main course, pork, which was at least 50% fat and it would have been nice to have some vegetables with the main fish dish. Desserts very expensive
Enjoyed our visit to the Half Moon. Food was beautifully presented and tasted amazing , service was friendly and efficient . A small point, was not keen on our table which was situated by the main door and cash desk, much to public.
On a Sunday when it's 25 degrees it would be better to adapt the menu to something lighter than 3 roasts, cod and a veggie option, especially when the cod ran out before we got there. The roast was however lovely, as was the starter and the desert. I will come back to try the full menu.
It just keeps getting better. Fully deserving of the 2 AA stars !
Always fabulous. Thank you for another great experience.
Amazing food, great service, Jodie is a true host and professional greeting guests, give it a go it’s worth the journey, Simon Young, Horley
Staff were slow but very attentive, garden was lovely although I think you should offer umbrellas for all outside tables, we sat in full sun and when the bread and delicious butters arrived they melted before we could eat them, maybe freeze the little plates the butters are served on? Food was disappointing small and expensive for what you received, it took us 45 minutes to drive there so I wouldn’t go out of my way to come again, sorry.
Lovely afternoon spent with family. Made to feel very welcome, without the over attentive attention. The menu was both comfortingly familiar with some lovely twist, along with delicious new ideas for the real foodie adventures. We were a party of eight. With a real mixture of taste. The Menu had something for everyone, it managed to wow and satisfy all. Good luck . We will be back John
Lovely lunch! Thank you :-) Perfect
