About The Half Moon
The Half Moon is a country pub, restaurant and kitchen garden located in the beautiful village of Kirdford, West Sussex.
Honest, organic and home from home are just some of the values we hold close and our guests can expect flavour and quality to be at the centre of everything we create or do.
From a la carte to tasting, we offer a selection of menus inspired by the seasons and the ever-changing Sussex Downs. In addition, we utilise quality British produce sourced as locally as possible.
Our beverage list is diverse and constantly evolving to ensure our guests can enjoy local real ales, craft lagers and fine Sussex Wines.
Whether you visit our garden room, restaurant, lounge or terrace, we encourage you to sit back, unwind and let our friendly team look after you.
My first visit to The Half Moon was for a Robert Burns' celebration dinner. Beautifully crafted in the kitchen and delivered to the table exquisitely, the menu that came to life on the plates was as delicious as it looked, and a complementary glass of Lapostolle Merlot was the perfect match for the food. The pub has a welcoming atmosphere and a lot of thought has gone into it's design, and it delivers on so many levels. I'm glad I went.
My all time fav restaurant. Attention to detail , friendly, professional and warm & down to earth . Gavin and Louise make that place
Enjoyed a fabulous Sunday lunch at the Half Moon yet again with 10 of my family members for a birthday celebration. Food / wine was delicious - will definitely come again! Thank You.
I've wanted to visit this pub for a while and arranging my birthday lunch with friends and family was the perfect venue. When I made the booking I mentioned there a vegan in our group and I was guaranteed there would be options for her. When ordering we were told there was no vegan options available and we should let them know in advance next time. As you can imagine I was bit confused and once I explained to the waitress what happened she went to kitchen and came back with a solution. The Chef was going to make a "surprise" starter and desert for her. The food was FANTASTIC. Even the most critical of us were impressed. And my vegan friend has already said we are coming back. Well done to the whole team.
Funnily enough my fiance and i were discussing our Sunday lunch with you, on the drive home, and agreed it was a 9/10, we then debated what could have been improved to get it to a 9.9/10 (i never believe anything can be 10), and we came up with nothing! Apart from perhaps having the luxury of Sancerre by the glass merely a personal preference, and perhaps a second vegetarian option on the menu, although my partner loved the mushroom/leak pie, it is nearly impossible to justify a 9, not a 9.9! So there you go, our first time, our new favourite place, its very country middle class chic, which is perfect, superb food, and atmos/service was spot on, our waitress was truly charming. Keep doing what you do!
Fantastic service and great food using in season britsh produce.
This is the second time we have been to The Half Moon and we love it! It's such a great pub for drinks and food. The food is delicious - I had the Venison Suet Pudding and it was incredible! So yummy and the perfect size too! The pub staff are always welcoming and inviting and it was fab to nab a reservation on New Years Day too! Lovely, lovely pub! We will be back! Thank you Team Half Moon - you're wonderful ! x
We all had steak and chips and all had different preferences as to how we liked it cooked, one rare, one medium and one medium well and all cooked perfectly, Service was warm welcoming if a little slow but not a moan as always have a good meal here, much recommended.
Perfect cosy apartment above the Half Moon pub with plenty of space and the cook your own breakfast provided was a great idea as we cooked this at our leisure in the well equipped kitchen. We ate in the Half Moon with family on the Saturday evening and the food and service was great, special thanks to Brandon and Louise for looking after us. The village store 2 mins down the road is ideal for any last minute provisions needed. We really enjoyed the experience and relaxed next to the open fire with a couple of real ales and gins - thanks Half Moon.
Our 3rd or 4th time here - never disappoints - always excellent.
Our food was amazing, but the only thing I was disappointed with is the accompaniments to puddings being mostly sorbets, which myself and my friend were not fans of. We had the crumble but it was served with sorbet which is not to my liking. When I asked for something different to come with it, there wasn't custard available but I was able to have cream as a substitute which was fine, but it was a shame that my friend had to pay extra to have ice cream with hers as she didn't want sorbet, and the only ice cream available was from the kids menu as a pre-packaged tub. We felt that the starters and mains did have amazing choices, but none of the desserts wowed us. That would be our only criticism; the service was absolutely amazing and the pub in itself is so lovely!
Very welcoming and friendly service. High quality food, locally sourced and delicious.
Louise and her team are outstanding!! The place the food the whole experience is just wonderful. We love it in the summer in the beautiful garden but love it just as much in side in winter especially at Christmas!! Thank you all for making our Christmas Day so special.
Christmas Eve at the half moon a perfect start to Christmas, excellent food drinks and service
We had the most amazing Christmas Eve lunch at The Half Moon. Despite being super busy the service was excellent and the food was first class which is not easy for a crazy table of 8. Thank you so much!!
Really lovely staff , delicious meal , beautiful surroundings.. will definitely go back ..
The most special restaurant around , my NEW favourite. Louise and Gavin just make the place . Louise is bubbly, fun , personable and down to earth and Gavin is Michelin star quality. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the Half Moon
Attentive and welcoming service when we celebrated my daughter's return from Australia with a few nibbles and some fizz in the back bar with 20+ family and friends.
Lovely evening many thanks. So sorry we live so far away (wales) but we will definitely be back - might use the rooms next time x
The Half Moon never fails to impress with the quality of its food and such a lovely environment. We are luck to have it in our doorstep and is our go to place when we want a decent meal. Long may it continue.
This is everything a foodie country pub should be, absolutely spot-on. Cosy, warm and welcoming with attentive (but not in your face) staff and an excellent choice of superb food at reasonable prices. The menu is flexible too, we had snacks for starters and a double snack portion of whitebait for me was no trouble at all. It certainly filled us with the Christmas spirit. Can't wait to return when the weather improves to try it's garden. Just wish Jodie had been there!
A delicious Sunday lunch with a twist - bit different from the usually pub Sunday lunch
Afternoon Tea was Gorgeous. And then we sat in the bar for a drink with the open Fire. Our favourite pub in the country side. Well worth the drive. Cannot wait to come back in the spring to sit in your lovely garden
Another fab meal! Yet again totally recommend
Full marks for atmosphere - lovely. Food was very good, although my main course was tepid, and the red cabbage with my pheasant arrived as kale. Service let you down: pleasant, but very slow - just one waitress for the tables and the bar. Pricing is wrong too for a country pub: £40/head for a lunch main and pudding, with a pint of sparkling water; no starter; no wine; no coffee. This is London pricing without the service level to match.
