About The Grovewood
Newly refurbished boutique restaurant, serving freshly prepared, locally sourced food from a bistro menu.
The menu seems so much better than before covid 19. It really was dire back then and I refrained from ever using the restaurant. I may now be a frequent user!
Everything was OK. Waiting service is very good. Foid is lovely But our name on the reservation list was wrong- it is Blackmore but was down as Buckley.
Delicious food & great choice of dishes & wines. Compliments to the chef for the great flavours and presentation, especially the chocolate dessert!
Very attentive staff & great food
The food was absolutely delicious. Please send our compliments to the chef. Brilliant
Food was very slow to come out. Apart from that everything was excellent - staff, choice and quality of food.
Staff are excellent always polite and helpful. Food was superb. Soups are quite brilliant. Sea bass also excellent
Exceptional food with unobtrusive, excellent service - thank you
Great service, lovely food.
Food was good as was the atmosphere for the evening meal, however we were overcharged £17 for someonelses drinks on check out which we eventually were able to prove was not ours. (They have someone added a receipt for another couples drinks onto our room tab!?) The DBB deal we have included £25 per head towards the meal but we only found out at the end of the meal when we had finished this did not extend to drinks so we were not able to fully benefit from the allowance which had been a 40th Birthday present for my wife which was a shame as we felt that if we had had an extra course (sharing starter for instance) we would have got the full £25 off each. It may even have worked out cheaper to have just booked Bed and Breakfast and paid for our meal ourselves. Also in the morning the breakfast was barely warm and the service was quite slow. Waitress took away out cutlery at one point and then we had to ask 2 times for the toast we ordered with the breakfast which meant it did not arrive at the same time as the meal. Portion size was also quite small. I would like to review the hotel room but this is only for the restaurant so unable to do so :)
Fantastic!! Faultless! Thank you
We had an evening meal with extremely quick service with some lovely food followed by breakfast the next morning which wasn't quite the same. When we arrived we were greeted by a lovely young girl and served initial drinks family swiftly but from then found it was very difficult to catch waiting staffs attention along with multiple minor things which would make service alot more efficient. When hot drinks were bought over they then asked every table if they required sugar instead of bringing some on a tray to offer the waitress then went back to the bar to get sugar. Once breakfast was brought to our table we were asked of we required condiments which were then forgotten and again struggled to get anyones attention, in the end as we were nearly half way through eating my husband went to bar to remind the waitress and also ask for some toast. After seeing the same waitress we had asked 3 or more times serve other tables (one of which was also complaining of slow service) she finally bought over sauces when we had nearly finished eating. She then brought out toast which she placed on table and walked off and hadn't given us any butter to which we struggled again to get any staff attention to request some. As for the quality of restaurant and standard of venue I would expect heinz sauces and beans, as lovely quality produce from kitchen is spoilt by poor quality condiments. Although all these sound petty issues I feel they could easily be resolved with a few minor changes to how staff operate which would make for a much more enjoyable meal.
Lovely break away on a last minute booking. So lovely to stay away from home after being in the house for so long!! Excellent massages and treatments with Charlotte too. Truely worth a 24 hr break away right now.
Absolutely excellent food and a delicious menu to choose from. Very impressed.
Food was amazing, guys were polite and very helpful, nothing was too much for them. Great service, felt very looked after and safe.
We stayed overnight using a voucher from Red Letter Days. I felt, compared to other spas, the Grovewood is very over priced & not as professional. A plain cup of hot chocolate with no cream etc was charged at £5.50 per person. No alcohol can be served in the lounger/ pool area so it’s just tea/coffee or soft drinks. While the inside/ outside pool is nice, there was no atmosphere there. This was a pre wedding treat. Covid has obviously affected what the spa can/ cannot do. We also had pedicures, which again did not match what I receive at my local beauty salon- I have never had nail polish applied before putting my feet into the foot bath & that was for all of one minute to wash off the product applied to my legs. Normally hard skin is removed & cuticles/ nails cut before soaking in a foot bath for at least 15 minutes before gel is applied. The cost of pedicures is also expensive- we live in the South East so it’s not as if we are used to cheap prices locally. There is a large out of town shopping centre next door to The Grovewood, which is handy & a Premier Inn. I wouldn’t return because of the cost & lack of atmosphere, but others might consider staying at the Premier Inn & just going there for a day Spa. The staff are really nice, especially a girl in the restaurant who is going to university next year. They left a ginger bread man in the room with the tea/ coffee. We had to ask for another as there are 2 people in a double room. They do not give biscuits. We went on a Friday & were surprised that it was very quiet. In normal time it is probably busier.
I got the voucher for a deluxe one night stay my last birthday, so I've been waiting a year to use it.......and it was worth the wait! My husband and I enjoyed enjoyed all 3 courses. The vegetables in my Thai curry were lovely and fresh, and the presentation of the sea bass was ever so pretty. I was nearly not going to have dessert, but the caramel pannacotta was beautiful. The service was a little slow, but because we haven't been out for dinner in months on end (pandemic plus having a toddler), it was actually nice to take our time!
food and staff were lovely
Had such a lovely time, service was fantastic and food was great. I loved the effort put in to the presentation of all the food. The only negative thing I could say was I wasn’t aware I had to preorder afternoon tea until the time I would have had it (luckily I was not ordering it) but would be nice to make this more obvious somewhere. But everything else was absolutely great!!
Was a bit disappointing that we couldn’t order alcohol around the pool side and wasn’t explained this also only wen ordering food would of liked it to be a bit more clearer when booking loose connection in room 214 when using hair dryer aswell
Food was Excellent and Service very good.
We came for an overnight stay and was disappointed we couldn’t have any food or drink until 6pm!! We were not told this before we came. Our stay was lovely but felt this had put a dampener on it for us. Also the service for food and drink was very slow.
Couldn't fault it, delicious food and excellent service, would definitely go back and definitely recommend.
Very friendly staff on both our visits when staying at the spa. Food is very generous size portions and very tasty. Great menu and drinks choice. Always a pleasure to dine here when staying at the spa
The Food was top notch especially breakfast.
