This was our first visit to The Grill and it exceeded all expectations, the food, service and atmosphere was 5 star, will definitely look forward to a future visit with the family.
Our waiter, Ryan O’Neill was exceptional. He was friendly, polite and a lovely person to speak to. Cannot say how impressed we were with him. He really did make our night. The food was lovely and very tasty. Had a brilliant night celebrating my husbands birthday and hope to be back soon.
We had fish and chips and grilled salmon Fish and chips was very greasy and looked very bland on the plate, beige! The salmon was cooked well but I couldn't cut through the fennel and the other grilled veg were very greasy, possible not grilled. The bread rolls were quite tough, not crispy like they usually are, as if they'd been cooked quite a while ago. We had wine by the glass which was very over priced. We had 2 waiters, the first was very polite but the second put our plates in front of us, said 'enjoy your dinner' and disappeared. We had to call her back to ask where our drinks were which then came sometime later. The restaurant was busy which created a nice atmosphere. There was a lovely sunset but unfortunately half the diners on the tables for 2 had their backs to the window. It would be much better if you could reconfigure the seating so that the majority of diners could see out of the window. All in all, not a bad experience but not a particularly good one when you consider the prices.
First class service backed up by excellent food and wine. Stunning venue and great company. Will definitely return and would highly recommend to other discerning diners.
Great service throughout our visit. It was our wedding anniversary and the staff made us feel fantastic. We will be back!
We did not know what to expect when we arrived having not dined at The Grill before but it was everything we could have wanted. It was relaxed but formal enough to feel special still and as it was a celebration of our 30th wedding anniversary we were pleasantly surprised at the attention to detail at our table, such as rose petals, a card wishing us a happy anniversary and a flower from the garden. Andy was a very attentive hostess without being intrusive and all of the staff were so friendly. We also appreciated the glass of bubbly and the decorated plate with handmade chocs. The whole experience made our stay!!
5* dining with an excellent atmosphere, professional yet friendly & helpful staff, will definitely be booking again soon
So where do I begin, Considering I booked this stay way back in March ready for my partners birthday on the day we were staying, I thought the experience we would receive would be perfect considering I booked 5 months in advance but I can honestly say I’ve experienced better night stays in the Premier Inn! Upon arriving to check in dead on 4pm we were told that our room wasn’t ready and we would be contacted on my mobile when it was available, 50 minutes later I received a call which I found amusing consider the check out time is 11am and sometimes you can check out at 12pm upon request which gives you guys between 4-5 hours to make sure the rooms are ready for the next checking in guest. We were then told we had received a complimentary upgrade to a Signature room on the 6th floor, ‘fantastic’ a slightly bigger room, bottle of wine, chocolates, I thought to my self fair enough I can live with the 50 minute wait now to check in, until we got back to our room from our evening meal around 11pm and got into bed, from the second I put my head on the pillow until around 12.30am and the again from 7am the next morning onwards a banging noise could be heard from the room next door which had a private sign on there which to us sounded like someone opening & closing a cupboard door and rummaging around in what I can only think is some sort of storage room seeing as the room was directly next to the restaurant! Room 651, 6 and half or so hours sleep does not go down well! Which now brings me on to the MAIN part of my complaint! Our evening meal at The Grill, now like I stated at the beginning this stay was for my partners birthday so the meal was her birthday meal for this year so the first thing which annoyed me was upon arriving baring in mind there was a number of 2 person tables available on the sides of the restaurant the waiter tried to sit us on a table in the middle of the room which looked like it had been crammed in to make more room in the restaurant right in the middle of a walk way which no one else was attempted to be sat at throughout the duration of our meal it was only that I asked to be sat somewhere else which prevented us sitting there. We were then told some one would be over to take our order for the drinks 15 minutes later some one arrived which by that time we were ready to order our food also. Then the bread roll & butter appetiser was not brought out to our table but everyone else had theirs. Our starters then came BEFORE our drinks which I then had to get up and go to the bar to ask for the drinks. The jug of water I asked for was then poured into our glasses and taken away which I specifically asked for a jug for the table which then again I had to get up and pretend I was going to the toilet not to make a scene in front of my partner at the table to ask another waiter for the jug of water back and to complain we hadn’t received the bread roll appetiser either. While I was there I also asked at that time if it was possible for them to put a candle in my partners dessert later in the evening when it was brought out for her birthday and I was assured ‘yeah of course we can do that’ and I was even asked to point out which table we were sat at for them to do so, but to no surprise the candle didn’t come with the dessert! Then for the most annoying part of my complaint, For the evening meal my partner who is fussy with meat asked for her steak to be cooked medium/well once her steak came out it had a medium stick in there which meant I then had to AGAIN get up out of my seat and go to the bar and complain the food was not cooked to order which meant on her birthday she had to sit at the table and wait for her main meal to be brought out again while I sat and tried to eat my slowly so she wasn’t left sat at the table eating her main on her own after I had finished mine! 3 time’s I had to get up out of my seat to complain about the service at a 5 Star resort which is shocking! Now considering the amount I’ve stayed at this hotel and the amount of gift vouchers I’ve bought for family members in the last 3 years since I first stayed at the resort I can 100% say this was the WORST experience I’ve had at the hotel from start to finish and has been so bad I’m contemplating on wether I should ever book to stay again, or even telling family members and friends not to bother either! The amount of money people pay to stay at the resort, I find this experience totally unacceptable and I will be waiting for a member of management to acknowledge this complaint and to contact me with some sort of an apology and a resolve to how badly we were treated at such an important time of the year for me and my partner on her birthday! To say I am outraged is an understatement! THANKS! Joel.
We liketge location of the restaurant and stmospher and the service was excellent. The service had imprkved since our last visit and we had taken advantage of the dinner, bed & breakfast offer which was good value. Otherwise the prices would be a little expensive (£11.50 for a prawn cocktail!!) The food was lovely but my wife's barbeque spare ribs was much too big a portion for her but we enjoyed and thought waitress(Andrea) was 1st class.
Service was lovely, we were shown to our seats, staff were aware when you needed something, promptly collected dishes and asked if we needed anything else and refills. Staff members were presentable, approachable and very kind and friendly. Would definitely recommend and eat there again.
We very much enjoyed everything
Didn’t feel like a restaurant, felt like there were tables set out in the hallway.
Disgusted. After having issues with a £30 charge for an extension of a voucher worth less than £100, we found ourselves sat on a table with a beautiful view only for it to be spoilt by continuous smokers right up agains the glass congregating 10 at a time. Our food was good, standard for a nice hotel but not amazing and certainly not value for money when you add up the original gift voucher spend, £30 extension fee (was reduced to £15 because I complained), extra fees for a prawn cocktail and a quality steak, drinks etc. Our evening however was spoilt by a large piece of plastic left in my husbands ribs!! Redeeming feature was Torei; your lovely server. I will be making a complaint!
Food, service, environment were excellent. Only marked down as the beer was not great. Flat and watery.
Very nice venue but became noisy when golfers came in . Good food and lovely staff who were very attentitive.
Service was very poor. Waitress very slow taking our starter and mains then dessert orders. Did not check if wanted anorher drink. However the worst thing was that we cd hear both her and the restaurant manager arguing about what appeared to be a personal issue within earshot of several customers
Food was lower than an average pub meal but yet your paying top notch. My steak was £28.50 and it was smaller than the size of my palm, burnt on one side and not that great tasting. And then paid 3.50 for a bit of melted garlic butter in a jug. Thought it would have come as a piece of butter on top of the steak. The waiter brought our bill over without even asking if we wanted anything else. We wanted more drinks so told him to take it back. Paying Celtic manor prices and less than mediocre food and service not great. It really needs to be stepped up
The whole experience was first class...in keeping with the rest of The Celtic Manor Resort
Superb meal with good attentive staff without being over the top. Will be back!
Wonderful food, friendly attentive service. Would highly recommend!
Food was just ok for the money.
Memorable experience with lovely hosts and food. Couldn’t thank enough.
Amazing relaxing place, good food, excellent service.
We felt as if we were on a conveyer belt, sit down eat, drink, move on. The food was good and the staff were nice but the whole experience did not live up to the other venues at Celtic Manor.
Lovely food the only thing I think you should have a bit more variety in the salad that accompanied main meals But food is outstanding
