About The Green Dragon Hotel
The iconic Green Dragon Hotel has a heritage spanning centuries as one of the grandest locations in the county. With long standing connections to community, agriculture, local pride and produce in mind, the new look Green Dragon Hotel has dedicated the entire ground floor to a showcase of the best food and drink.
The Hereford, our new Brasserie restaurant, serves a mix of classic and contemporary dishes with a spotlight on local, seasonal and sustainable produce from the bountiful nearby fields. The stylish and contemporary restaurant is set in the classic 1920’s panelled dining room.
So my rating of the restaurant for the Green Dragon might be unfair because of the circumstances at the time because the 2nd lockdown was being enforced the next day. So in light of that my star rating are not all ones. The food was slow, cold and seemed like it had been sitting in the kitchen a while before being served to us. Even the drinks took a long time to be served. There was two of us having an afternoon tea and after waiting 45mins with no apologies, we finally got it and it was okay but the tea wasn’t with it so then waiting another 20 mins still with no tea I went up to the waiter and the craziest thing was that he didn’t realise it should have come with the sandwiches & cake. The same waiter also tried to charge us twice. So it wasn’t great and I really hope for the Green Dragons sake that this was just a one off and not their normally service.
we wanted to see the manager who was not available because we were woken before 6am by a loud continuous whirring noise it was so loud that my husband went down to reception to find out what was going on and was told that our room was over the boiler room hence the noice so we got no more sleep that night and this was supposed to be a luxury room!!!!
The room was nice and clean, but it was very noisy at 6am with laundry being taken up and down the corridor outside our room. The breakfasts were very good and waitered bar service also good. Would go again but ask for a quieter room.
Stunning decor. Relaxed but elegant place to meet up with friends. Love the menu and the cocktail bar.
Great to have the ballroom open now for extra space. Drinks were lovely and staff were attentive.
Grapefruit sparkle is amazing!
Lovely drinks and fab waiter
We stayed one night in a lovely room 219, with a large comfortable bed, plenty of hot water and heating. Very clean hotel, and the reception staff very helpful. Will stay again when we are next in Hereford.
There were only 16 finger sandwiches for 6 people whereas another table of 2 people had 8. Wide range of cakes.
Although the server was a very pleasant and polite lad he didn’t ask us if we would like tea or coffee, we had to ask him when he brought the cake and sandwiches. He also forgot the water until we reminded him. The sandwiches ,scones and local Trumper breakfast tea were very nice but we were a little disappointed with the cakes . The lemon tart base and meringue bases were obviously bought in not made in house and the two loaf cake slices were boring. No frosting on the carrot cake and not sure if Madeira cake was coconut. There were no macaroons as on your menu. We were really excited to come to our local hotel but were disappointed that the tea had no wow factor.
The food in the restaurant was very nice only surpassed by the drinks. Your mixologist Ben done a great job and was keeping a number of guests happy with his cocktails. I enjoyed the lamb rump which was cooked beautifully and just melted as you cut into it. We also spent a lot of time in the lounge enjoying the atmosphere while being served by Sian who was very attentive and ensured we had everything we needed to enjoy our stay including a selection of your gins which kept my fiance happy. The Covid-19 measures in place were to a high standard with tables being wiped down before we were seated and the track and trace QR code clearly visible and pointed out on entry. Social distancing was maintained well throughout the hotel helped by the very easy booking system for the restaurant.
The hotel was very nice and the staff were great, nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was really good and dinner was ok, had the potted beef which was too large a portion and only 1 piece of toast so was a little disappointed.
We would have purchased a lot more drinks if the bar staff were around more.
Could not fault the service and quality of the breakfast on both the mornings of our visit! Staff were very attentive, efficient and polite , many thanks
Really enjoyable afternoon spent having a delicious afternoon tea!
Whole experience was excellent. Only disappointment was an awful steak on first evening meal. It was a cheap cut of meat and no amount of cooking was going to make the gristle edible. Also, one full English breakfast only just warm. All other meals were very good.
Lovely food, great staff nothing was too much trouble
Gorgeous table. Fab food and attentive waiter. Perhaps a bit of screening using plants? Would also be lively of there was a gentleman's or ladies club attached.
The cocktails we had on our visit were very nice but fir a Saturday evening the service was v v slow. The ballroom where we were seated was too big for the number of people but I do understand in Covid times it was probably necessary to use that space. The visuals with the music didn’t create a v relaxing atmosphere.
Prices are high but definitely worth it for the service, atmosphere and food itself. First visit but will definitely come back again
My 8 year old girl says this hotel is epic!we both recommend it highly.
We had a fantastic stay. Staff were welcoming and helpful - really hard to fault anything.
Good food and great service. Excellent for Sunday lunch.
Fabulous Sunday lunch.
Comfortable stay in great location. Staff were excellent. Food OK, but could be improved. Room location wasn’t ideal (240) - next to stairs, and thin walls to next door room.
