About The Green Dragon Hotel
The iconic Green Dragon Hotel has a heritage spanning centuries as one of the grandest locations in the county. With long standing connections to community, agriculture, local pride and produce in mind, the new look Green Dragon Hotel has dedicated the entire ground floor to a showcase of the best food and drink.
The Hereford, our new Brasserie restaurant, serves a mix of classic and contemporary dishes with a spotlight on local, seasonal and sustainable produce from the bountiful nearby fields. The stylish and contemporary restaurant is set in the classic 1920’s panelled dining room.
Under difficult Covid circumstances the staff were great. The dishes were beautifully presented and very tasty. The lamb rump was especially worthy of mention for its flavour and tenderness. It's worth paying that little bit extra for the high standard of food, which satisfied our appetites. We were pleased that good quality wine was available at reasonable prices as well.
A charming old hotel where you are served by lovely people who go out of their way to make you feel safe and welcome. We shall return!
excellent staff..lovely bedroom...my little dog had a great time..so did we! Afternoon tea was excellent... Thank you to you all.. We would recommend and hope to be back post lockdown
Great food, great staff. Thank you very much.
Your staff are a massive credit to you. All of them were great but I’d like to single out our breakfast waiter - Paul - and thank him for being unfailingly polite, helpful and kind to my elderly parents. We had a wonderful weekend. Thank you Lyn Johnson - Room 137, 18th & 19th Sept
I booked the suite for my wife’s birthday and upon arrival the hotel was very nice as were the staff. The dining experience was ok however the decor wasn’t in keeping with the rest of the hotel and felt very cold and impersonal. My wife had the lamb and she said it was beautiful I had the ribeye steak and wasn’t overly impressed but was okay. The room we stayed in was extremely noisy with very loud cars racing up and down the street outside and lots of loud drunk people fighting. Around 4am after the police dispersed the crowds we got some sleep. Breakfast was great. Would definitely stay again but would choose a room to the rear of the hotel. All in all 6/10
The hotel and its staff were lovely. The revamp of the hotel has been sympathetic, keeping lots of character features and at the same time modern and stylish we loved it. The staff were warm and friendly and very attentive. The food was well cooked and presented, the only disappointment we had was the breakfast. For a full english we would expect to have seen beans and hash browns included and not items you have to pay extra for.
A very enjoyable evening and was enjoyed by all. The salmon starter was a little novel style portion, but everything else was first class and very very enjoyable. The Baked Alaska was to die for. Thank you will come again.
Fabulous hotel. Excellent position, staff friendly and helpful. Excellent hygiene measures for keeping covid safe.
On arrival we found our room not acceptable. Depressing colour scheme and no natural light. Needed like updating. We accepted a replacement after we were told there were no spare rooms! Breakfast, the bacon was hard and small portions. Otherwise just OK, wouldn't return.
Very enjoyable three night stay with my husband. The staff were excellent from the reception team to the waiting and bar staff. Has the fastest and very well made espresso martini from Harry who worked the room like a ninja
Such friendly staff. Great food. Really enjoyed our stay with you. Thanks.
Enjoyed the stay, was a bargain with travelzoo. We were extremely happy to enjoy free parking, machine was broken. I know covid made it difficult for the hotel, they did the best they could but service was very good. Would of liked to of tried their ala carte restaurant. (Closed) Only small issue, wanted to leave window open in room but couldn't due to ahu or fans. Our view was over the side alley, roofs, Lane etc.. Very creaky floorboards, though that's due to age of building. Otherwise its worth a stay.
My wife, myself and over friends are agreed that you have a wonderful bunch of people working for you, all were cheerful, professional and helpful, a credit to you. We were made to feel valued and appreciated, thoroughly enjoed our stay.
Having had a wonderful meal in August for my wedding anniversary I was keen to celebrate my 60th birthday here. I booked a table for 7pm, in the restaurant. On our arrival we were told the restaurant closed at 6pm on Sundays, and we were instead seated in the lounge area and given a pub style menu. This menu was very limited in choice, expensive for what it was, and the chicken and chips VERY over cooked and dry. My 'green' salad had red lettuce instead so was not green or enjoyable. The waiter apologised and said many other people had also been disappointed when booking Sunday evening meals. If this had been my first experience of the food at the Green Dragon it would also have been my last.I know they can do great food but this experience did not show case it at all. If the restaurant never opens on Sunday evenings this should be made clear when booking online. I strongly suggest this is rectified to avoid disappointing other diners,
We have enjoyed excellent food and service over our last two dining experiences, We will certainly be coming back to see you soon , your front of house and culinary staff are a credit to you
Booked via telephone spoke with lady told her I wanted a table in the Hereford restaurant only to find she had booked the hotel dining Luckily we were able to get a table in the Hereford
Was a great afternoon tea would definitely be coming back
A little difficult to get regular service from bar staff on a saturday night, as to be expected; didn’t seem to be enough staff to cater for a busy Ballroom. However, the staff are friendly and try their best! Cocktails are lovely, good choice, although a little expensive for some of them. Lovely atmosphere and setting.
Complained on day 1 about toilet flush and TV not working. Left after two nights still the same and was asked to contact management. Shocking really during the current pandemic not to fix the toilet that would not flush!!!
Me and the hubby oredered 2 steak burgers with hand cut fries. It arrived rather quickly I soon realised why. The top of the burger bun was cold and the bottom was frozen! The blood from the burger was running on the plate. I called the waitress over and she immediately took it away and said we would have 2 fresh burgers. Approx 5 mins later our freshly cooked burgers arrived. These were not freshly cooked. The chips were limp and they are not hand cut on the premises. Also the bun was almost burnt on the bottom. The burger was still raw in the middle. I said to our waitress if I wanted a rare burger I would have asked. She was most apologetic but, it wasn’t her fault and she was excellent in the way she dealt with it. Not a good experience at all.
Just an overpriced bar meal as restaurant closed during the week. Monkfish was tasty but serving sparse. Chips appeared to be reheated from earlier in the day.
Hotel is well restored and beautiful, service and food top class, I will definitely be back soon
A thoroughly enjoyable evening! The staff worked very hard, listened well, smiled a lot and the service was great! When the Chef brought out our desserts and stayed to talk to us it was a lovely bonus. Thank you for a wonderful evening!
Disappointed with the menu, great room, very comfortable, great bath, would definitely stay again.
