About The Grain Barge
Situated on a barge on the River Avon, The Grain Barge is a unique Bristol experience, named one of Britain's best pubs with a view. Serving pub classics along with new seasonal dishes, using fresh produce from our own Five Acre farm, a great breakfast menu and an extensive choice of vegetarian and vegan dishes. Fantastic Roasts on a Sunday. A great selection of local ales and ciders, along with some regional gins. Coffee from Clifton Coffee Roasters, we pride ourselves in using local suppliers and helping the community. We are also dog friendly.
My go to place for Sunday lunch when visiting Bristol. Never disappoints
Love this place! Food is always amazing and great drinks selection is ace. Only reason I gave 4 stars for service is because we didn't get table service like other tables but honestly wasn't an issue.
Reserved a table so was disappointed we had the worst table in boiling hot sun. We moved and watched 4 separate customers sit and promptly move! The beef was tough as old boots. Waitress was lovely though.
Very friendly staff, a little disappointed at the lack of gluten free options for sunday lunch.
Friendly staff, well presented food, great view
Usually love the Grain Barge but was really disappointed this time. Turned up to our dinner reservation to be told they had a big party on and they weren't taking food orders... But I'd brought my visiting family for dinner! Then they said we could order but there'd be a 20 minute wait, we said no problem. Our food arrived cold an hour later, no one came to check on us so couldn't signal that there was a problem. Then they had the cheek to add a service charge (to a table of 3!) which we asked to be removed... They said that was fine but when we said it was because the food was cold and took an hour to arrive the waitress didn't even offer an apology. Really poor service and will think twice about coming again. Really ruined the evening.
I have held a couple of company quizzes at Grainbarge and the team have always been really helpful and make the organisation easy. Great staff and an awesome venue!
Great place enjoyable evening and great food,
Very busy evening and long wait for food but staff pleasant.
3 items of food that we tried to order were not available, no communication or positive interaction from staff, 3rd and last visit to grain Barge
Was looking forward to a meal at the Grain Barge with friends visiting Bristol. Booked a table for 7 people for 8.15pm. Arrived and greeted by Cherry who was very friendly. We had looked at the menu beforehand and already decided what we were having. Ordered drinks and was informed there was no steak, and no beef & mushroom pie. Choice was then limited if you wanted meat so we all decided on a burger. Ordered and drinks arrived to be told afterwards that no burgers either. Only vegetarian or pulled pork burger left to choose from. 7 very disappointed hungry people, so left to go and find food elsewhere at short notice. Luckily found a restaurant with food, to accommodate 7 people on a saturday night at short notice. Sorry but won't be returning to a restaurant that doesn't have food. Can't comment on value for money. Wine was nice though.
Good atmosphere, food and drinks. Fairly good value for money considering the setting, on the barge, and location. Only disappointment was very slow service. Took a little while to get served at the bar and no table service available even though it was advertised as an option. Food took around 45mins-1hr to arrive. Other than that, we had a good experience.
The music is a little bit too loud. You kindly turned it down a bit but it didn't make much difference. People like to chat over Sunday lunch and I could see that most tables were struggling to hear each other. Perhaps you need a speaker behind the bar so that staff are aware of the volume. Otherwise excellent thanks.
Although when we arrived we were told that the veggie roast would take 30 minutes, it took just under an hour to reach us. The table next to us, who arrived and ordered after us, were served their meat roasts about 15 minutes before we got ours. A wasp kept hovering around our drinks so we caught it in a glass and alerted one of the waiters - she said she'd come and see to it, but never did, so we ate our meal accompanied by a wasp in a glass... The food was fine, but the service was a little lacking to say the least!
Staff were friendly, helpful and having fun - just right for Friday night on the docks.
We had a great evening, the food was delicious and the staff were unfailingly friendly and helpful.
Nice vibe and staff friendly. Not too ambitious food took an hour though...
Sunday roast was on another level, made to feel really welcome and nothing was too much trouble. My family and I all said we will be returning.
Weren’t welcomed on arrival. Had to find own menu. Weren’t made aware of items not being served that day. Table wasn’t cleared so we left before getting dessert. Overall really disappointing first experience and not likely to come again.
Lovely but noisey and at one point were told kitchen shut at 10pm. Table was booked for 8.30pm and then when service was slow.... However we were accommodated with desserts. Just needs to sharpen up.
Our most recent visit was extremely disappointing although addressed by staff at the time. The menu was more limited and the choice made of steak proved inedible it was so tough and was returned to the kitchen. Waiter service was acceptable and apologetic but bar service was cool and indifferent as well as unwelcoming. I am sure we will give it another chance but if they get it this wrong again we won't be going back to eat. A great shame as on previous occasions we have enjoyed our visits and the more extensive menu.
Lovely evening on the Grain Barge. Lovely table allocated and good menu choice. Bottom deck there was a very lovely, well attended open mic night. Will definitely return. Thank you...
Food was excellent quality, staff were very friendly and quick.
The drink selection and the food was good, however it was let down by the service - for a table of ten all meals came out at different times, despite being on the same table number, and some dishes were wrong/forgotten. Not great for a birthday celebration when the birthday boy receives his meal 20mins after everyone else! Might just stick to cider in the future. Shame as I’ve had some good roast dinners here in the past.
My booking had not recorded properly on the system at the Grain Barge - however a table was organised quickly. Local beers very good. Friendly atmosphere and good service. The Sunday lunch was warm rather than piping hot - it therefore cooled rather quickly. Meat was good - veg a great mix but a bit hard. Slightly on the expensive side.
