About The Golden Ball
Good British dining in a beautiful country pub. Prepared by a team of excellent chefs, that simply showcase the wonderful produce from Lancashire.
First time visitors. Great and flavoursome food. Very friendly and relaxed service. Will definitely be returning in the future.
First visit. We live just round the corner and frequent the Black Bull, where your reputation hasn't had that which it deserves among the regulars. Hereon, I will ensure that my experience yesterday is well voiced in that pub - starting this teatime. All four of us thoroughly enjoyed the entire meal and the ambience. I also like the way in which you have arranged things so that a little of the pub atmosphere is retained within the overall restaurant .atmosphere. The food was superb, and the service was excellent from our delightful young waitress. We will return, hopefully on a regular basis - starting with myself and four other old fellas on the 11th Sep.
Attentive staff. Well presented and tasty food. Comfortable settings.
It was our first visit. We will be back. Lovely place, lovely staff and lovely food.
My husband is suffering with cancer and I am currently in a wheelchair, having had an operation. We decided to visit The Golden Ball with my brother and his girlfriend who were across visiting us for the weekend. I booked a table (which I clearly need not have done as the pub was almost empty). The menu looked good online, although the prices were higher than most other eating places in the area. Our visitors were paying for the food and drink so we felt uncomfortable saying we weren't impressed with the quality of the food. The pub itself is beautiful and very well kept, but the food is certainly far from value for money. My husband and I had a Sunday Roast, with chicken. The chicken was quite dry, the roast potatoes didn't have much taste, the veg looked like frozen veg and was tasteless. The tender stem broccoli tasted like it had just been dipped in boiling water and was hard (not al dente). The yorkshire pudding was soggy and had been put on top of the potatoes upside down. The gravy tasted like instant gravy. My brother had fish and chips and when he saw it he said 'hmm... this looks different'. The chips didn't look nice at all and the batter on the fish was very browned. His girlfriend had the fish pie and said it could have done with some sauce with it as it was a bit dry. When the bill came we were shocked at the price. We quickly realised we'd been given the wrong bill. When we were given the correct bill it was still expensive for the quality of what we'd eaten. The waitress that served us was pleasant, there's no denying that. Getting into the pub wasn't easy for me in a wheelchair as the walkway was very narrow and it was like a coir carpet and not easy to be pushed along. They do have a disabled toilet, but I couldn't get to the hand dryer as there was a table in the way, so I dried my hands by shaking them. Sadly I wouldn't recommend this pub for food, but there were lots of people sat outside having a drink, so clearly it's popular for drinks and chat.
Tasty food, perfectly cooked and presented, lovely atmosphere, excellent and attentive service.

Very tasty food in a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Great way to spend Sunday afternoon. The service, as usual, was excellent. Well done everyone at The Golden Ball of Longton.
A true dog friendly welcoming pub serving great food by efficient and very friendly staff.
Lovely Mother's Day meal. The small menu (4 main course options) won't suit everyone but between 5 of us we covered the whole menu and it was clean plates all round. Our second visit here and will certainly be back.
Very pleasant and relaxed dining experience. Enjoyed our lunch of freshly prepared food which was well received after a long walk, thankyou Anita and team.
