About The Gin Trap Inn
The Gin Trap Inn is a traditional and cosy 17th-century coaching inn and has a long and colourful history.
We welcome customers with dogs in our garden area, bar and conservatory area.
Our Garden & Bar tables are on a first come first serve basis & cannot be booked in advance. However you can make a booking for our conservatory with your dogs online.
With social distancing measures currently in place, any customers who wish to have a drink with us, will need to check in with our host.
We had a fantastic stay at The Gin Trap, we stayed for 2 nights at the beginning of November, just before lockdown number 2. The staff were all fantastic, all of them had a great knowledge about Gin, the service we received was outstanding and the food was absolutely delicious. The room we stay in was lovely it had a massive bathroom with a free standing cast iron bath- very relaxing. We would definitely visit again.
visit time is incorrect-our booking was for 8 pm we apparently arrived late (by 5 minutes)despite our 8 pm reservation being confirmed on line, we rudely informed that the kitchen closed at 8 pm and were then denied food and told it was sandwiches or baguettes or nothing by a charmless inhospitable unapologetic female waiter-BAD SERVICE!
Amazing place. The service and food outstanding
We have been a few times since lockdown and we loved the food on the summer menu. Unfortunately our meal on Tuesday evening was absolutely terrible. Around half of all 3 portions of chips were over cooked (very dark in colour, bordering on scraps in terms of how they ate). Medium rare steak was well done. The quality of the steaks was terrible. Cut and ate like a grill steak; convinced they were not even sirloin steaks and were incredibly dry. & tasteless, especially for £25. The burger whilst it had plenty of flavour was over cooked and exceptionally dry whilst the bun was so dense (slightly under cooked to boot) that together it was not enjoyable. The gnocchi was incredibly dry and tough. Overall, we were all disappointed at just how terrible almost every part of our meal was.
A perfect pre-lockdown evening, thank you all so much, see you again in the New Year
The food menu was limited, it was missing some traditional meals. The staff were very polite and friendly. I would visit again but would check the menu before doing so.
The arancini and black pudding scotch egg were delicious. The fritto misto was nice but could have been more interesting but the mushroom and broccoli gnocchi tasted awful.
Please invest in a water filter for your table water. I live locally and understand the tap water is full of chlorine at this time of year but it is easily removed with an inline water filter.
Well done during these difficult times! Thank you and good luck for the future.
Very friendly staff, couldn’t fault the food.
Absolutely brilliant thank you
A proper dog friendly pub with good food. Thanks for a great evening.
Fantastic food in a lovely atmosphere. Staff amazing can’t do enough to help.
Recommended by a friend and really enjoyed our meal, especially the pies. Atmosphere was relaxed and enjoyable. Staff were really friendly and helpful. We would definitely return...wishing we could on our holiday but lockdown will prevent us doing so!
Fantastic meal last Sunday afternoon....we're back again tonight!!
Excellent dining experience in every way
Our second visit in two weeks as we had such a great time the first time! Our first visit was an outdoor family celebration and our waiter coped admirably and with humour with our exuberant group despite the challenging weather conditions (and the many requests for cocktails) The food was first class too, steaks cooked exactly as they had been requested and chicken and mushroom pies to die for! Our second visit was a more sedate Sunday lunch for four. Served by the same waiter (and I’m so sorry I can’t remember his name, because he is a very likeable and memorable guy!) the food was again sublime (we all opted for the roast pork) and then we each chose a different (sweet) dessert. All I can say is, eat the desserts VERY slowly - they are well worth lingering over! Would we recommend the Gin Trap to our friends and family? Always and without hesitation for first class food, service and value for money.
Fantastic time , can’t wait to go back !!! Thanks for our experience
Fab food, and slickly done with all the covid safety! Definitely will be back, and the garden is excellent
We had the worst meal ever since visiting the Gin Trap for over 30 years. Sunday lunch was small pieces of meat buried under poorly cooked vegetables, a ludicrously inflated yorkshire pudding and drowned in tepid, thin gravy. The price of our meal was refunded by a junior manager who both literally & figuratively needs to pull his trousers up....
Excellent service and lovely staff. Food was fab too. Many thanks :)
Excellent meal only problem was I stated we were bringing a dog but on arrival it hadn't been noted and I felt that we were an inconvenience. However it was sorted quickly and all other staff were lovely
food was amazing for both adults and kids!
Excellent food. Staff coped well in busy evening
Fantastic food, staff were friendly & superb with my wifes birthday arrangements as best they could do. Made us an excellent birthday cake too!! Thank You!!
