About The George Hotel and Beach Club
The Conservatory is a family-friendly brasserie-style restaurant with a light airy interior and uninterrupted views of the Solent. The food here is fabulously unfussy and dishes are created and cooked from the wonderful natural Isle of Wight larder. While away a few hours under an umbrella watching the sail boats zip past or dine by the seawall looking out across the small shingle beach and the sea beyond.
Staff most helpful with booking. Suggested the offer which includes ferry tickets and that worked well for us. We were given a lovely table overlooking the sea and the food was delicious. The dishes that we chose were beautifully cooked and the portions were substantial - the wine was excellent too !! The staff were very friendly and the atmosphere peaceful and we weren’t rushed at all. Adding to that were the beautiful Christmas decorations which made the room look very festive. All in all we had a lovely lunch and will look forward to a return visit. Many thanks Christine Failes
Congratulations on the upgrade of the facilities. We look forward to enjoying the restaurant again soon.
The staff were very welcoming and friendly. They accommodated our rather active 14month old Grandson really well! Delicious food. Would highly recommend! Great offer at the moment to include ferry journey. Must come over again for lunch next time to take advantage of the views and daylight!!
Great service and food. We had a very relaxed and enjoyable meal.
A very nice dining experience, from entering hotel from reception through to the table. Our food was very nice, and presentation was perfect. We found attentive but not intrusive, we did not need to ask for wine or water as the staff noticed we were needing some but were not constantly asking. Very good evening
Hi! We had Sunday lunch with you 5 years ago an excellent meal with a final bill of £500! Why we booked this time i don't know as we got the worst table possible (table 46) next to a post and knocked frequently by busy passing waiters with no apology. The beef lunch was nice, and underneath the tasty veg were two thin slices of beef nicely cooked but minimalist at £19 a shot, I'm a lightweight eater but this was disappointing. I asked one of the nice young waiters (all the young ones were most attentive) for another slice which i duly received..will i come back? Not to that table thank you.
The ideal location for that special celebration. The George has had a very tasteful makeover including the outside terrace.
We had a super lunch. Our meals were delicious and beautifully presented. The maitre D (check trousers!) was charming and struck the right note of welcoming and unstuffy.
When booking we were told we had to vacate the table within2 hours. The is very irritating and unnecessary. This is mostly in the hands of the restaurant staff; if service is only adequate then the meal should easily finish within 2 hours.
Super lunch, fabulous fish mains, our token veggie thought her main was really thought through and full of flavour. We skipped starters but had the desserts which were exceptional. We are from the Island so you take the view for granted but from the conservatory in Autumn, it's stunning. The hotel itself is chic and understated luxury, Best Autumn lunch on the Island? We think it might be...
LOVE LOVE LOVE for my corporate guests. Thanks to Rob and his team for an outstanding lunch. See you again soon.
It would be difficult to find a better outside space to eat anywhere when the weather is good. The garden is superb. The food was excellent and the service good. We'll be back soon.
Super food and atmosphere, the service is very friendly but needs work on organisation
Had a great evening, would have been even better if we had booked a room so we didn’t have to sail back! Next time .....
Brilliant lunch with a very relaxing feel - friendly service, nothing was too much trouble. Will definitely return.
Rather a poor evening despite lovely position and good staff.Children's menu very limited and food very average and overpriced.
Good food but sadly poor service from start to finish. The older gentleman who seated us seemed indifferent rather than friendly, service was slow-our drinks arrived after our food and we had to ask for the right cutlery etc when it did come. The only thing to arrive promptly was the large bill!
Unfortunately following a funeral we had an hour and a half wait for ordered food, no communication or interaction from the staff. My food was cold and chewy but the rest of the party were at best, satisfied. Cost of food was very high for what you got, probably higher than London for equivalent. I also requested sheets and blankets on both beds when booked but had to ask again on arrival as duvet was supplied. Nice hotel though... but pricey. We were compensated though no arguments.
Lunch in the garden on a warm, sunny day was a recipe for a very enjoyable time and in the main it was. Our visit was to celebrate a relatives 60th wedding anniversary. The George was fully aware of this special event and even confirmed they had this information the day before our visit. Unfortunately no reference was made, no congratulations offered. It is these touches that make's a dining experience special and in this The George failed. The food was good, especially the Catch of the Day. The service mediocre as both the water and wine had to be chased.
Service much slower than previous visits but still a most enjoyable experience. RG
Great Hotel, staff were brilliant and so was the food, location was perfect
Our first visit to the George was extremely disappointing and we will not be returning. We were served a rose wine that had not been chilled (and the waiter did not pour any in our glasses or ask us to taste). We had not ordered starters (just some nuts and a flatbread to nibble) and after waiting 1 hour and 10 mins, our main course had not arrived. I raised this with the person on the front desk who apologised and said the we would not need to pay for the wine, and he would ask our waiter to find out what had happened with the food. We waited another 15 minutes, with no one letting us know when our food would arrive, and decided to leave. At this point, an apologetic member of staff said he would get the owner out - it turns out the owner was the guy I spoke to at the front desk, but this time he couldn't be bothered to speak to me, and sat eating his dinner. Really, he couldn't care less..... What could have been a very pleasant evening in nice surroundings was completely ruined, with 4 very angry customers.
Hi it’s great to see that the George has got its joie de Vivre back ( we’ve been coming for 20 years) such a great buzz at lunchtime yesterday. Good simple food from the outdoor kitchen and fab wine list. My only suggestion would be to include Isle of Wight wine on the list, Adgestone vineyard produces surprisingly good wines.
Fantastic venue on a sunny afternoon but to only have 1 waiter to service the outside space was ridiculous and meant a long wait to be served and even longer to receive the drinks. It’s a shame as had the service been better our party would’ve stayed long and consequently spent more money with you! I’m hoping this was just a one off and would like to visit again
Lovely evening atmosphere and delicious food. Our waitress was really lovely too.
