About The George & Dragon
The George & Dragon in Speldhurst is a traditional 13th Century Inn with roaring log fires and dramatic oak beams. In May 2017 Chris Cozens took over the pub with the aim to provide a pub that not only sold local bitters and good wines, but local, seasonal food simply cooked and using the bounty of produce that surrounded them in the heart of Kent. It was after a long lunch in a small village near Urbino, Italy where what was on the plate in front of them came from the surrounding fields, that the idea of producing a restaurant that sourced everything (within reason!) in a 30 mile radius was born.
Food was great all enjoyed their meals and service was good. Had booked a table but found this was under the tv with the cricket on. If we had known we would not have booked for yesterday. Feel would have been good to be told in advance. Took table outside instead and everything went well from there. Staff friendly and efficient food excellent. Food presentation very good and excellent choice of vegetables cooked perfectly.
Well cooked, nicely presented food, with one or two different flavours. Sizeable portions. The young staff were friendly and able to answer questions. Rather quiet for a Friday evening, but there were more people sitting outside. Our Australian friends were very taken with the old building and the very English pub.
Food is absolutely superb! We will be back again!
Excellent food: Duck salad was delicious, as were the cheese cake puddings! Sitting outside was good since the weather was fine; the courtyard is a bit austere perhaps but who cares!.
Great service, amazing food. The roast lamb to share was divine. Best roast we have had in the area by far!
It was surprising quite for a Sat night. They had run out of a couple of things we want to order. The staff were very friendly, the food was good, we had an enjoyable evening.
Tiny piece of fish. Ignored most of the evening by the waitress.
As always the food is superb, the setting perfect. But as always the service is too slow (although it is always super friendly!).
Our table was booked for 12 so we arrived at 11:50 but you weren’t open yet. I’d suggest the earliest booking you take is 12:15 so customers don’t have to queue (especially with young children). Your website says you open at 11:30. Our table was really sticky which wasn’t a great first impression. Service charge: I don’t like that this £9 was added on without any choice. Hence my low score for recommending. I personally think £9 tip is excessive for what the service we received.
Very nice food, good service. Very limited choice of Rose - only one very dry one available. Offered Prosecco but got caught out on the price which was £9 - a bit steep!
We have been coming to the restaurant for special occasions (3-4/year) for about 12-13 years but the last two, both the food and ambiance have really gone down. The atmosphere is no longer upscale (battery operated lit bottle on the tables instead of candles) the food has gone very mainstream... very disappointed. It’s acceotabke but no longer special.
Thank you all for a lovely lunch.
The team were so accommodating when we arrived early and I asked if I could find somewhere to feed my baby. They went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and had a delightful lunch. Thank you!
Lovely authentic gastropub. Very dog and family friendly, good food and service. We would definitely come back if we are in the area again!
Often visit here as it’s a great pub with lovely food & we can bring our dog with us. We travel from Dartford for this pup 10/10 food , atmosphere and more importantly the staff are fantastic.
One of our main dishes was forgotten. Our waitress forgot so much that we asked for. Had to wait a long time for food.
Very limited options for vegetarians
We were a party of 7 with various requirements (vegan, vegetarian, allergies) and we were looked after really well by the friendly, helpful staff. We all really enjoyed our meals (veggie burgers, burgers, sausage and mash, pork belly and steak pie) - and the puddings were delicious, too.
Lovely local pub ... great atmosphere and friendly service
Great Sunday lunch!

Really good Sunday roast in a lovely old pub
