About The George & Dragon
The George & Dragon in Speldhurst is a traditional 13th Century Inn with roaring log fires and dramatic oak beams. In May 2017 Chris Cozens took over the pub with the aim to provide a pub that not only sold local bitters and good wines, but local, seasonal food simply cooked and using the bounty of produce that surrounded them in the heart of Kent. It was after a long lunch in a small village near Urbino, Italy where what was on the plate in front of them came from the surrounding fields, that the idea of producing a restaurant that sourced everything (within reason!) in a 30 mile radius was born.
Delicious food in cosy and atmospheric country pub. Will definitely be back.
Nice polite and friendly staff in a cosy environment. We will defiantly be back with friends.
Amazing customer service from Karla. She really added a personal touch and was able to accommodate my numerous allergies without making me feel uncomfortable. Will definitely come back and will recommend to all my friends and family
No lamb or beef roast's left which was disappointing but the pork was delicious. It was clear they had been very busy and as a result service wasn't great. I asked for the wine list and nobody brought it over, I ended up going to the bar to order and take back to the table. On that basis we did begrudge paying the service charge on the bill. We will be back for the lovely atmosphere and great food but service needs some improvement.
Wow wow wow...possibly the best roast dinner we have ever had! The four of us shared roast lamb and roast chicken, all cooked to perfection!! We'll be back.
Undoubtedly the best roast in town! Friendly and attentive staff in a beautiful setting! Cosy pub at its best.
Very good food, we were impressed
Lovely pub with cosy yet sophisticated atmosphere. Very welcoming staff. Good choice of food. Only slight critism is the food was a little too rich/salty but that is being picky. Wouldn't hesistate to go back or recommend The George and Dragon.
I organised a special "pub grub" lunch for 20 walkers. There were some early hiccups over the booking but Karla & Fred ironed them out and the lunch exceeded expectations both in terms of uality and uantity. Thank you!
The perfect country pub, open fires, low beams, friendly staff, food is delicious, one of the few places I would bother forking out for a roast which is better than I can do at home. Full marks all round and we will be back.
We had a wonderful Boxing Day Lunch with fantastic service!
Wonderful. Everything was a treat. Ribeye steaks were excellent. Great discovery.
We came for our fifth wedding anniversary, and had an exceptional evening. The food was amazing, some of the best food we’ve had for a long time. Staff very friendly and welcoming. Will definitely be coming back and would recommend to others.
The food was ridiculously overpriced. It the portion sizes (specifically the vegetarian wellington) were an adequate size and reflected the price it would have been ok, but it was tiny with hardly any accompanying vegetables or sides.
Drinks took too long. Carrots were not peeled and gritty on my butternut squash Wellington dish. Roast potatoes were undercooked and stodgy that accompanied the roast dinner. Waitstaff were untrained and didn’t know their job. I have been coming to you for 10 years but since change of ownership things have gone mightily downhill. I desperately hope for improvement.
The manager is a legend! So friendly. Delicious food too.
Really lovely pub with friendly staff, good beer and excellent food. The roast lunch was outstanding and we always feel welcome (and that includes our dog :-))
We had a lovely lunch and very attentive service. Will go again.
Wonderful pub in a lovely setting. The upstairs area is unique and amazing. The food is fantastic, we shared the shoulder of lamb and there was enough for 4. Great value, great food and lovely staff (Just wish we had room for pudding).
What a beautiful pub to catch up with old friends over Sunday lunch. We were met at the door and showed to a lovely table in 'The Buttery'. Very laid back, friendly staff. Great food with decent portions (I ended up with a doggy bag). Even though it was our first visit we felt very welcome – will definitely be back.
Delicious food & friendly staff and service. A perfect way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Special thanks to Carla for going above and beyond to sort out our transport home.
Beautiful building and amazing food and service. Will definitely be coming back.
Pleasant first visit, initially service ok but as ir got busier the service suffered. Too be honest the roast are over priced for what you get, albeit the food was nice.
We came here years ago and the experience was very good. This time we felt the lunch menu was uninteresting and the restaurant was dark and gloomy.
Fab food and service as usual!
