About The George & Dragon
The George & Dragon in Speldhurst is a traditional 13th Century Inn with roaring log fires and dramatic oak beams. In May 2017 Chris Cozens took over the pub with the aim to provide a pub that not only sold local bitters and good wines, but local, seasonal food simply cooked and using the bounty of produce that surrounded them in the heart of Kent. It was after a long lunch in a small village near Urbino, Italy where what was on the plate in front of them came from the surrounding fields, that the idea of producing a restaurant that sourced everything (within reason!) in a 30 mile radius was born.
Very limited options for vegetarians
We were a party of 7 with various requirements (vegan, vegetarian, allergies) and we were looked after really well by the friendly, helpful staff. We all really enjoyed our meals (veggie burgers, burgers, sausage and mash, pork belly and steak pie) - and the puddings were delicious, too.
Lovely local pub ... great atmosphere and friendly service
Great Sunday lunch!
Great food and service in a lovely village pub
Such a lovely little pub and the food was beautiful!
Lovely food, friendly staff.
Really good Sunday roast in a lovely old pub
Great Sunday lunch. Highly recommended.
Had Sunday lunch at this establishment. I feel as though we received a “Harvester” type meal at “the Ivy” prices. Beyond disappointing. All had roast beef which was only two small slices with cold vegetables and Yorkshire pudding. Awful. Will never ever go to this restaurant again. Will tell everyone I know to avoid eating there. Over £100 for 3 people with no alcohol or starters with just ice cream and cheese for desert. Extortionate. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.
Beautiful food in a lovely pub atmosphere.
Always come here and love it but my recent visit was at 3pm a lot of people had left and our new took forvever. There used to be a nice lady manager who looked after us maybe that’s why services wasn’t as great. Good food.
Had 2 x steaks and 2 x drinks and cost just shy of £100. Extortionate.
Feel dreadful saying but service was very slow for our group of 4. We were sat a bit out of the way, although cosy but we sat for ages waiting for drink order, we only got asked when food came out to us, or rather we asked for drinks when food arrived. We asked for condiments to go with our mains, never arrived ! Think you were under staffed that night ? Food was lovely though. Would come back and hope service a bit better next time.
Excellent but just on the edge with your menu prices which are London's.
Superb dining in an incredible building. Staff, food the whole experience is definitely one we will be repeating. Fantastic, thank you!! Highly recommend. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Delicious food in cosy and atmospheric country pub. Will definitely be back.
Nice polite and friendly staff in a cosy environment. We will defiantly be back with friends.
Amazing customer service from Karla. She really added a personal touch and was able to accommodate my numerous allergies without making me feel uncomfortable. Will definitely come back and will recommend to all my friends and family
No lamb or beef roast's left which was disappointing but the pork was delicious. It was clear they had been very busy and as a result service wasn't great. I asked for the wine list and nobody brought it over, I ended up going to the bar to order and take back to the table. On that basis we did begrudge paying the service charge on the bill. We will be back for the lovely atmosphere and great food but service needs some improvement.
Wow wow wow...possibly the best roast dinner we have ever had! The four of us shared roast lamb and roast chicken, all cooked to perfection!! We'll be back.
Undoubtedly the best roast in town! Friendly and attentive staff in a beautiful setting! Cosy pub at its best.
Very good food, we were impressed
Lovely pub with cosy yet sophisticated atmosphere. Very welcoming staff. Good choice of food. Only slight critism is the food was a little too rich/salty but that is being picky. Wouldn't hesistate to go back or recommend The George and Dragon.
I organised a special "pub grub" lunch for 20 walkers. There were some early hiccups over the booking but Karla & Fred ironed them out and the lunch exceeded expectations both in terms of uality and uantity. Thank you!
