About The George at Backwell
Good food and wine, great beers and a very warm welcome.
Seven individually designed en suite bedrooms.
Close to Bristol's city centre and airport.
Breakfast served until 10.30am
Main meals served from 12noon through until 9pm.
So good to be able to get a roast at the time we came, the beef to be pink and beautiful, fresh Yorkies and veg fresh and not sat getting soggy Under heat lamps. You nail the basics really really well. Choc pot was marginally over priced but really didn’t matter as the rest was spot on.
A lovely meal, excellent value for money, great service. We changed our reservation time & it was no problem for the staff, who are friendly & helpful.nice selection of wines & beers. We stayed in one of their rooms & sampled the breakfast which was awesome.
Lots of menu choices especially for a lunch time celebration, good food and service , easy to book a table on line same day .
Apart from our own home cooked roast it’s possibly the best Sunday lunch we’ve ate. Definitely be back.
Lovely food and service, one of our favourite places.
Excellent place to eat great food really good wine selection and great staff
Excellent service, friendly and welcoming staff and first class food made this an enjoyable evening.
I can't fault the service, the rooms were beautifully designed and the hospitality was exceptional. The food was simple but tasty and the bar and restaurant felt really cosy.
We have eaten at the George many times before and the food, service and atmosphere has been lovely. Sadly on this visit all the food was a little overdone. Not enough to complain but come the end of the meal everyone was disappointed. It felt like in general the food has not had the same care and attention as normal. The service was a bit slow but we were in the garden room (by request as is quieter) but the staff were friendly and accommodating.
Dear Gayle - Thank you for your feedback. I shall alert our Head Chef & senior team to your feedback so the quality of dishes you were served can be reviewed. Regards, Sam Roffe, The George at Backwell.
Good food, friendly staff, pleasant atmosphere.
It was a great experience and the staff were tremendous attentive without being pushy and best of all the food was awesome
We had a very pleasant evening. The service was great, the food hot and plentiful. Only drawback was the very loud person at the next table which made it difficult to hear each other!
We booked the garden room for a big family birthday celebration of 15 people. The room was perfect for us as separate from the rest of the pub so felt very relaxed. We were very well looked after by the staff. They were happy to bring in a cake and even turned the lights off! We had a lovely time and would recommend it.
Nice meal Good customer service Reasonably priced
Really lovely place, friendly waitress, great food. Will be back again soon.
Great service and delicious food - looking forward to returning :)
Thank you for letting us know you will be back Charlotte. We will look forward to seeing you again.
Very attentive staff and great food
Lovely place, great food and staff are very efficient.
Dear Kate - thank you for coming to eat with us and for letting us know how much you enjoyed your meal. We hope to see you again soon.
We love the ambience here - such a cute little pub. But I have to be honest, I feel the food is massively overpriced for what it is. Little things annoyed me - not enough butter with the bread, over cooked chicken burger, minimal amount of slaw. Service is fine. A guy next to us complained about his burger. I have eaten here loads of times before and we kind of said this time would probably be the last as we can get better for the money. Also, we stayed over a couple of months ago and the room hadn’t been cleaned very well. Would’ve stayed this time but that put me off so we stayed at Backwell House. I have to be honest... I wish we’d eaten there too... a little bit more expensive (not much) but I know the food would’ve been infinitely better. I’ve only left such an honest review so you can improve in the areas you need to.
Dear Mark - Thank you for your comments and feedback. We are currently reviewing every one of our dishes and the quality of our ingredients. I hope that any changes we make will persuade you to visit the George again in the very near future. We aim for excellent standards of in our B&B rooms - and if there was a problem during your visit, I hope you felt able to alert our team who want to make sure house-keeping standards are always first class. Regards, Sam Roffe, The George at Backwell.
Lovely food and good veggie options
Incredible service and super tasty roast dinners that are great value for money, you cannot go wrong with The George, the family love going to this pub. It has a wonderful atmosphere, staff lovely and helpful and a top chef, highly recommend. Really great place for larger groups too and they always accommodate us and the food is prompt and hot, one of our favourite pubs.
Exceptional service from the team!
Dear Andie - I shall pass your lovely feedback to the whole of our team. Regards, Sam Roffe, The George at Backwell.
My wife and I were staying in the area and looking for a local pub to eat in. The George did not disappoint and we enjoyed a great evening. Friendly and efficient staff, food excellent and the local bear wasn’t bad either. If in the area again we would definitely book a table.
This was very disappointing. "The Dungeon" was booked for a party of 11 (9 + 2 babies) on 5th July. They were aware that 4 diners were vegans. On the day of the event we reminded the manager of this and were told there would be no problem. From the whole menu only 3 choices were available. One starter - Homemade Tortillas - provided the sour cream was removed. One main - Homemade Nut Roast - provided the vegetable gratin was replaced with no gratin. The third choice was olives and bread. This is not a meal option, it is an appetiser. There were several staff on duty but we felt ignored. When meals were ordered it took forever for them to arrive. On 1 occasion one of our party had to go to the bar and order drinks and on another we had to go to the bar to order a desert and 2 hot drinks. When eventually a member of staff brought the drinks we asked what the milk was. We were told it was"actual Milk". When asked if there was an alternative (FOR A VEGAN) the reply was No. Asked why the answer was she didn't know. The fact is that both the management and chef are responsible for a very lazy (and arrogant) attitude to customer needs. Every supermarket now caters for any number of dietary needs but The George can't be bothered. Not only do you run the risk of losing additional customers you certainly have lost our number.l
I am so sorry we did not look after you and your companions well enough. We do cater for all dietary requirements including Vegans and have a number of options available that include milk alternatives. But during your visit, we clearly did not offer you all that we should have done. We will be re-briefing our team on what needs to be available for customers with special requirements. Apologies once again. Regards, Sam Roffe, The George at Backwell.
Menu choices, food and service were great. Would happily come back again, especially in the summer with the outside area they have there!
