About The George
Set in the picturesque village of Burpham in the South Downs National Park. Just over 2 miles from Arundel, The George at Burpham is a traditional 17th Century country pub which has been providing warm hospitality and refreshments to villagers and visitors alike for over 300 years
Had I not been entertaining guests I would have complained about the poor quality of the food served .I did not wish to cause them embarasmnet.3 of us had fish and chips-my portion was a very thin tail piece nhd more batter than fish -the other portions were better but the fish not very fresh.MY wife said the risotto was "awful" Previous meals we have had at the George have been very nice but I am afraid that after this experience we shall never return!
Beautiful pub in idyllic surroundings, friendly staff and great food, highly recommended.
A good evening for the 6 of us. The mackerel and chorizo risotto remains the chefs signature dish!
A good quick lunch- fish and chips washed down with very good beer hit the spot!
Absolutely fantastic dining experience. We loved the food and Holly and Linda couldn’t do enough for us. Thank you and hope to visit again soon.
Nice place and food was fine and although staff were nice, service was very slow with us waiting 15 minutes for the desert menu and after at least another 15 minutes no one came back so we paid and left. We went elsewhere for desert. It wasn’t particularly busy, only about another 3/4 tables. Disappointed as hadn’t been there for a few years, won’t rush to go back.
Well presented meal, lovely premises in great setting.
Always such a pleasure visiting The George, great place and amazingly lovely Staff
Fantastic atmosphere. Good ale. Fine food. Excellent waitress.
Great atmosphere, service and food!
Although it was a busy evening the service was good and the food excellent. We would visit again.
Maybe it was a one off, but after several previous visits, this place was definitely not as good as experienced before. My main was OK but not inspiring. Our friends said theirs was Quite ordinary. My wife could not stomach the veggie burger and on sampling I completely concur. Cheesecake in glasses might be trendy but nothing like a cheese cake at all! Not the best of experiences. We also heard our neighbouring table complaining about their inedible steaks and fish pie that contained little fish. In conclusion something has gone sadly adrift in the kitchen. We will not be going back.
What they do, they do well.
Having had many excellent meals with you, served by professional and friendly staff, I thought I had wandered in to the wrong pub! Dreadful service, three serving ladies not communicating with each other, the younger one just wandering around, who didn't know how to give a receipt for contactless. Drink order wrong, over an hour for simple food which was muddled, I got white bread by mistake, it was ghastly, dreadful sandwich, not enough time to have a coffee as it all took so long, even though we arrived mid-day. What an earth has happened? Denise Gabriel
The new head chef Richard was very impressive- an excellent fish and chorizo risotto. With the enforced absence of the manager Hollie, Kirsty coped extremely well in charge for the evening. Another enjoyable evening at The George.
Enjoyed my Sunday Lunch and if youre into a vast choice of Vodka, Gin etc then this is your place. Personally I would only like a choice of a few. Lovely friendly lady serving us and keeping us happy. Price is high but quality costs! Book very early, difficult to get tables.
Lovely pub with great food and service
We were well pleased, however the Calamari was 6/10 & the Fish pie also 6/10. The dressed crab was 10/10 and the house Rose was 9/10. The Albanian waiter was excellent. We will come again next year for our annual reunion. Barry Cager
Excellent experience all round.
Lovely meal Saturday 13th July. Friendly atmosphere and good food
Excellent meal, great service!!
The usual warm welcome and excellent service, accompanied by delicious food. The standard is consistently high- thank you!
Very good food and interesting menu. Chicken satay with noodles was delicious and the portions generous. Friendly and professional service from Zeno and Jo Jo. Another excellent evening.
