About 50 Bistro
Located on the ground floor of The George at the convergence of Park Terrace and Peterborough Street 50 Bistro spans three interconnected rooms and offers an intimate place to meet, a light filled conservatory with a living wall for outdoor dining and a stylish indoor 'neo-bistro' restaurant serving up modern New Zealand cuisine.
Our Executive Chef Antony Page, leads the cuisine team assisted by his talented team, Executive Sous Chef designing seasonal menus using the best of local produce, as well as health-wise cuisine options.
The stylish interior flows out to a generous conservatory, complete with a living wall, fire tables that reflect the warm hues of the orange onyx wall inside, making 50 Bistro the perfect place to meet any time of the day for coffee, cocktails and bar snacks or a meal.
Picture windows overlook Hagley Park, make 50 Bistro the ideal spot to start any day. Lunchtime brings with it a buzzy vibe offering great versatility and value with a selection of light meals and salads in addition to entrées and grills and desserts. Evenings bring heartier comfort dishes and a warm ambience, perfect for relaxing with friends.
The food was delicious and the waitress was very personable. Had a very lovely lunch and good coffee. Steak came out the way we asked and the food portions were good. Lovely quiet atmosphere.
Great food and staff as always. The prawn entree was superbly delicious.
I went to have lunch with friends and had lunch course menu. Unfortunately, Over all, the food was average and service was not outstanding. I liked the environment being quiet and comfortable space provided but not sure if I want to go back again.
Lovely food and great service from the staff, we would certainly go back again.
Good varied menu, with many options for those with dietary requirements. Everything we had was very tasty.
Food was excellent as was the service. It was a miserable quiet weather day so couldn’t really judge the atmosphere. We will return again as it was a really enjoyable experience.
50 Bistro is in a nice location with parking outside. Our meal was good but took 40 minutes to arrive despite the restaurant being only half full. Mains should arrive within 20 minutes if no starters are ordered. We have struck this before with slow service seeming to be the norm. Pricing is a few dollars high compared to other equivalent restaurants so value for money is average. You actually get much more for your money upstairs at Pescatore. We have found Bistro 50 to be a better lunch venue than for evening dining.
We had a lovely meal at 50 Bistro, staff were friendly, attentive and helpful and the food was delicious, couldn't fault it, will definitely be back!
Great experience. Food was great and so was the ambience and service. I will return for sure.
The staff, service and quality of food was outstanding.
Great food and lovely service.
Couldn’t fault the service , meal , atmosphere Highly recommend .
Staff were excellent. Great knowledge of the menu. Attentive and friendly. All meals were amazing, we all tried a little of each others. Yum yum yum will be back!
Perfect in every way. Thank for the great service and beautiful food
Great service. Food nice but flavours at times seemed too complicated and a bit muddled - trying too hard to be innovative perhaps? Great to pay using first table - otherwise would have been a very expensive meal for what you got.
The stater was amazing, for the main meal we had the ribeye steak. This was cooked to perfection! We tried some of the in-house sorbet and ice cream for desert, this was totally awesome. The waitress Trish was fantastic, she knew everything on the menu and assisted us with our choices. This was one of our most pleasant dining experiences we have had in Christchurch. Thanks to all the staff!
Came in with my wife for her birthday today. Clearly asked for firm poached eggs with her Benedict. They came out runny. The waiter was quick to acknowledge the mistake and a fresh dish was prepared as quick as possible. It did mean however, I either ate my food ten min after it was placed in front of me, or I ate in front of her alone on her birthday. There was only one other table at the time of seating. Although we enjoyed the atmosphere and the staff were friendly, it was a disappointing start to the day. The local cafe does good eggs, but today we wanted something a little special. I expect attention to service in an establishment as fine as yours. We were left disappointed.
We booked for 16 people this weekend for an 85th birthday and this was a superb location and occasion. The room was well warmed for our arrival which was appreciated for those of us from out of town. The service was brilliant and they even managed to cater for one gluten free guest who hadn't declared their requirements earlier. Highly recommend.
Our waitress from Delhi was amazing and very knowledgable Excellent wine and entree however the fish main was dreadful mostly mashed up potato with capers
Thank you all for a wonderful evening for my sons birthday! Everything was perfect and the service was first class. My son said “this is the best fish in the world”, you have his approval. The birthday plate was a special touch. Thanks again, we will be back.
Always a lovely experience. The staff are second to none, friendly without being intrusive and they are very knowledgeable. Excellent food.
A fantastic restaurant. One of the very best in town for a full service experience
staff were just lovely. meals weren't as high end as we were expecting, excellent that there is a completely vegetarian menu to compliment the standard one.
Really enjoyed our meals. Service was professional, food was amazing. Definitely recommend
