About The Gate Islington
At The Gate, we love making wonderful food and exceeding our customers’ expectations. We create inspiring vegetarian and vegan food for everyone to enjoy time and time again. Our goal is to share the infinite possibilities of experiencing and enjoying plant-based food.
We do our best to grow sustainably and adapt to the needs of the community. We currently have 4 restaurants in London – in St John’s Wood, Marylebone, Islington, and Hammersmith.
At The Gate Islington, we serve lunch and dinner everyday and Sunday roast every Sunday.
Another excellent meal and I can't wait to come back.
Decidedly mediocre. Service was probably the worst part - arrived at 5:30 when the restaurant was virtually empty. Despite there being around 5 waiting staff standing around the bar (probably enough for one per group of diners at that time) it took almost 5 minutes to get one to come for our drinks order. After waiting for a further 5minutes we were told that the Margherita we ordered wasn't available (no explanation why) so instead got a very watery and flat aperol spritz. Waiting for something disappointed that wasn't what we wanted and when we were on a time limit for the theatre was particularly annoying. The aubergine starter was excellent, but the potato cake was bland and disappointing. For mains, the mushroom risotto was flavoursome but not much more than I've done at home from a Jamie Oliver recipe. The beetroot burger was moist and flavoursome, but there was too much going on on the plate - ordering the optional side of guacamole was totally unnecessary. With a carafe of white wine it all came to somewhere over £70. I suppose it's what to expect, but so much competition in the vegetarian restaurant sector these days, I don't feel the need to go back to the Gate.
Food was excellent but service okay.
I very much enjoyed my meal and look forward to a return visit!
A good pre-theatre lunch with attentive staff.
venue too noisey. Needs some hangings to deaden sound Good food. Wine pricey,
So I actually love The Gate (Isington) always the staff are great very friendly and the food is amazing................what is there not to love and support. Thank you.
Amazing food, lovely venue, excellent staff. A delightful evening, can’t wait to come back
Great food and service as always, would be nice to see the Rotolo back on the menu again
On another occasion we would prefer not to sit so close to the door. However the food was fantastic.
Wonderful evening last night. Amazing food and the Ginger spritz was fab, a drink with no sugar! The girls and I loved it.
Absolutely delicious meal!
My first time at The Gate. Staff were attentive but not distractingly so. Consequently, service was good. The food appeared well presented and hot. Very tasty and well balanced. Enjoyed my visit and as a regular visitor from Lincoln to Sadlers Wells I will definitely be returning.
Wasn't expecting mocktails to be in a bottle and the kids pasta was a little undercooked, other than that the staff were very nice and helpful, we was pleased with the service.
Excellent food. It was so good to have a whole menu to choose from - usually as vegetarians we have a limited selection. The service was very attentive. It cost a bit more than we usually pay for a meal but we were celebrating a special event so it was worth it.
Unfortunately whilst the food is always good, the service was bad. With the server arguing with me about who I ordered some food and drink with, and the mains coming out before we finished our starters (and then immediately after we'd finished our starters - good use of the hot plate). This could be so much better and it used to be. Disappointing
We had a really great birthday meal.
The slowest service ever. You always seen to have minimum staff in house and the waiting time for being served or to have the drink or bill delivered is simply unacceptable. Its not the first time. Even in hammersmith there seem to be just 1 waitress ....really not a great experience taking into consideration what you charge. Thank you
As always the food etc is great. I do think the 90min dining slot is a bit mean given the fact that most restaurants allow at least 2hrs and that is hardly ever mentioned when booking. It fine for a pre-theatre snack but to go out for dinner for an evening that would be a limiting factor n enjoying a meal.
Fantastic Food beautifully prepared!
Lovely meal, much better than Mildreds. Thank you for not shoving sugar into every meal like Mildreds do. Vegans should be able to eat out without every option having fruit bunged into the main course.
Mostly empty restaurant. Walk in and wait for staff to acknowledge our presence. It takes a while. We are seated and have to wait a long time for a waiter to come. When it drinks arrive the waiter announces the wrong drinks, when we say we didn't order this here corrects himself that actually he was confused. When mains arrive no one comes and takes interest how is the food. We left half the main uneaten between the two of us and they didn't bother to check with us if there was any problem when collecting it. Waited a long time to get the bill and get the hell out of there.
Best food I’ve had in ages!
Excellent quality and very pleasant atmosphere.
Unique and always quality. Thank the chef and his team.
